Wow what a delicious Indian restaurant! My friend gets take out from here often and brought me for lunch on my visit. It's a huge space,beautifully decorated, and perfect fire large events. The servers were friendly and helpful about ordering gluten free. He had samosas and naan he said were great. I loved the fried paneer that was gf and so crispy! The food was good, though spicier than we thought medium would be. The portion of raita (yogurt dip) was generous. The lassis were delicious. I liked the vindaloo better than the curry. Our lunch came to $30 apiece, including tax and tip. Ambiance is pleasant but the decor is not memorable. I have been passing this place for years and I finally stopped in and I was rather disappointed in the entrees. The Staff was nice. We were seated immediately. The Food came quick and Prices aren't bad, but I did not enjoy the entrées we ordered. We started with Veggie samosas and they were good- Crisp outside and flavorful inside. One thing that I found interesting was their spice level is mild/medium/hot. But they also have spice levels like "medium plus"/"mild plus" if you want a little more spice. Very spacious and clean dining area - while we were having dinner there was a fair amount of cleaning activity, which is great. Nice ambiance with an attractive bar. Service was good, our waitress was very pleasant and attentive. Very extensive menu which includes most of the classic Indian dishes. I started with a mango lassi, something I order at every Indian restaurant. It was very attractive (see photo), nice and creamy but could have used a dash of salt. We ordered garlic naan, which had a fabulous flaky texture, but needed more garlic for flavor. My main dish was lamb biryani which was loaded with lamb. When I've had this in India it is cooked in a clay crock and gets a nice crust on the top which was missing here. Could have used a few more veggies for flavor. My wife had the fish curry which was excellent - I know because I finished her portion the next day. Portions are generous here, and they have nice containers for leftovers so you can expect a 2nd meal the next day. The food remains consistently good, even after all these years. We don't eat out as often as we used to, but this restaurant is one of our favorite "go-to" places. I'm not an adventurous diner, so I usually order one appetizer, some form of tandoori chicken, plain naan bread, and a veggie dish like Palak Paneer. My husband orders a shrimp dish. Flatware and serving ware bundled and brought with the food. There were cloth napkins and regular restaurant plates. Bathrooms were single occupancy, with people waiting in line. Staff hustling to take orders and take payments. The "host" was a busy distracted man with no time for hospitality. This place is loud, complete with people (guests) singing and really embracing the outdoors in the park vibe. A piece of toilet paper (I assume detached from someone's unassuming shoe) sat undisturbed on the floor for our entire visit. I would not eat here again, but I would order takeout if I lived closer. My partner and I ordered delivery from Sher-e-Punjab twice, and our expectations have been exceeded both times. I can't speak to the dine-in experience as we haven't been there yet. For our first order, we selected papadum, garlic naan, shrimp curry, Matar paneer, and a mango lassi. The papadum were larger than those served in some other restaurants, crisp, and flavorful. The garlic naan menu description says it has a "subtle touch" of garlic, but ours was pretty pungent! The first time we order from a new-to-us Indian restaurant, we lower our preferred spice level by 1. So, my partner got the shrimp curry at a medium level. While he found the dish tasty, he decided to order hot next time. I ordered my Matar paneer mild and enjoyed the creamy, flavorful tomato sauce. This restaurant doesn't skimp on the paneer or peas either; I had enough leftovers for lunch the following day. My partner and I split the mango lassi, and it was cooling and delicious as expected. The next time, we ordered lunch. We selected papadum, Kashmiri shrimp hot, and mild Matar bhurji/aloo. My partner enjoyed the heavier spice in his dish and found the shrimp to be cooked perfectly. My dish was flavorful and not just a bowl of sauce. We once again had enough leftovers to make another meal. For both orders, our food arrived carefully packaged and hot. First off, the food is amazing. The best Indian food I have had in Tucson, most of Arizona, and better than what I get near me at home. The back of house is amazing. The friend I dined with said they had remodeled several years ago. My friend also said the service has become much worse. Our greeting was a cold, "Hi." The guy who seated us did not bring us menus, but at least we got warm glasses of water. No introduction or welcome greeting. Our server never introduced herself, something my friend and I have come to expect at quality restaurants. "Hi, welcome to Sher-e-Punjab! Have you been here before?" That is a great greeting. When we were seated, we expected, "Your server, Anna (I am guessing), will be right with you!" What'sHerName asked if we needed menus. Well, duh! Came back later and took our order, and asked how spicy we would like our food. My friend has a question about a couple of dishes, The server had to get Mr. Friendly, who acted very irritated about being bothered. He was very short when he had to answer another question. The food came out promptly despite there being a birthday party and a few other people dining. The server NEVER checked back in to see if everything was okay and as ordered. We had to wait a long time for the bill and boxes. Mr. Friendly walked past several times and looked at us but never said a thing. He must hate his job! Very sad, as the food was fantastic, as I mentioned. The server came back and asked if we were finished, and asked if we needed boxes. At least they were brought promptly. We paid and left, passing Mr. Friendly on the way out, who again didn't say a thing. How nice it would have been to even get a minimal thank you for coming in. When I am back in town in the summer, I want to go to Saffron. My friend said she is always greeted, the servers check back to see how everything is, and she usually gets a nice "Goodbye!" I got the chef's special (lamb, chicken, shrimp) biryani with raita to drizzle on it and my fiance got chicken Tikka masala with butter naan. Both of ours were so delicious! We ate at Sher-e-Punjab tonight. I would like to give them a minus 6, if I could. Let me explain. We had 4 items, mango lassis, veggie pakoras, veggie samosas, and butter chicken with rice. The mango lassis and the chicken were good, so let's say 5 stars. The veggie pakoras were burnt and greasy, and the samosas were commercial items with the wrapper tasting like cardboard and the filling was salty and far to peppery, so let's say minus 5. That's a zero so far. The wait staff was terrible. We were urged to order more than we did, She left in a huff when we did not order more. We were interrupted several times during our meal. For example, we were actively engaged in conversation when we were interrupted. We were urged to get take away containers while I was trying to leave a phone message for our real estate agent. We were interrupted and urged to get desert. We were interrupted to ask if we were ready for the bill, while we were still eating. We were interrupted to ask us if the check was ready for payment. The last straw was when we were urged to put the burnt pakoras into a take away box.I said they were burnt and we could not eat them. She said nothing and turned away in a huff, like we had done something wrong. All of this bad service added up to another minus 6 points. read more

We were craving for some Indian foods but our favorite Indian restaurant was closed for the day so our search for the plan B was this one. It was located off the busy road but the space was comfortable with the aromatic Indian spices filling the air & friendly staff welcoming & sitting us immediately . So far so good, we thought. We chose the sampler appetizer , Lamb Vindaloo for me ,Rogan Josh for the hubby, & the garlic naan from there extensive menu but struggled with selecting a wine in their limited drink choices eventually picking an Indian beer for the hubby & Sauvignon Blanc for me. The samplers were not fresh , crispy or soft. Too dry to our liking. The requested medium-spicy main dishes were very bland. What was interesting was that the two separate main dishes tasted almost the same. The texture in the Vindaloo sauce was too watery lacking the distinctive flavor & the Rohan Josh tasted not much different from the Lamb Vindaloo. We were not enjoying much but what ticked us off the most was the " friendly " server's request for a Google review right there while we were dining. So we would go back to our favorite local Indian restaurant, Saffron , as this plan B did not work for us. read more

The restaurant felt like a mom and pop style rather than a casual/fine dining. Food was good. Ordered couple of appetizers such as the Keema Samosa and Shrimp Pakora. Tasty apps to start. Chef's Special Biryani and Lamb Tikka Masala were both delicious. The restaurant's spice level isn't the most spicy. If you are able to tolerate spice and balance taste; get extra spicy to ensure you get that kick. Overall Sher-e-Punjab was worth the try. Restaurant isn't located at the best place of Tucson. I love when I get to hit up this spot for lunch, I went on a Saturday so I missed their amazing lunch buffet. So happy to see it is back. The staff is amazing and the food is too. After a hiatus of many years (for no particular reason other than happenstance), I've been to Sher-e-Punjab twice recently and am happy it's back among the Indian restaurants in my rotation. So far, we've tried the vegetable samosas, lamb samosas, Navratan korma, chicken biryani, chicken vindaloo, and chicken curry. The vegetable samosas are quite good, definitely on par with others I've had locally, and I found the lamb samosas wonderful! They're bursting with flavorful stuffing, with a lovely spice combination, and came out still steaming hot. I definitely recommend them! The Navratan korma was my favorite among what we've tried so far at Sher-e-Punjab. It wins points for its plethora of vegetables and delicious large blocks of paneer -- the cheese makes it a much heartier, richer dish. On both visits, I've found the korma to be much more mild here than at other places; I ordered medium but found it to be quite mild, so in the future I might try ordering up a spice level from my standard to offset that. I also recommend getting naan alongside your entree! Their naan is a perfect chewiness and is an excellent tool for making sure you get every drop of sauce out of your bowl. The service has been on the slower side on both visits, though the staff are quite friendly when they do come to take your order or bring food. I look forward to my next visit! read more

The naan is always a must when coming here. Keema Curry this time; was very tasty! Love when there are options for lamb, very flavorful. Good amount of spice, very happy with my choice. The texture is much thicker than some of the mango lassis I've had. We tried the mild butter chicken curry, garlic naan, and a chicken curry with tomato and the veggies. So I'll be honest. We got takeout from here primarily because it was one of the few places that were open on Thanksgiving. We actually tried to order from 2 other restaurants before hitting Thanksgiving jackpot with Sher-e! Much like any Thanksgiving meal we were quite stuffed by the time we were done and I definitely needed to nap off all those good eats. We shared the mushroom chicken, chicken biriyani, mixed vegetables and some naan. It was all very securely packaged for takeout in a mix of white paper box (Plain basmati rice) and round plastic containers for the curries and biriyani. The naan was wrapped in paper and foil. I loved the seasonings and spices in each dish. We requested it mild spice and I felt they delivered just the right amount. It was still a little spicy but just a subtle little hint of it in each entree. The white rice was soft and fluffy and while the biriyani was good flavor wise, I thought the rice was just a tad overcooked. The naan itself was a little unevenly cooked as one piece was still a little doughy in the center but had black charred bits in the thinner parts of the bread. Seems like the oven it was cooked in was too hot perhaps? Portions were plentiful and it was enough to satisfy 2 adults and one toddler with leftovers to spare.
