For appetizers we had the octopus which was soooo fabulous. The sauce and the crunchy chickpeas were delicious. For dessert we had a hot fudge ice cream dish that makes my mouth water thinking about it. The other one was some sort of caramelized baked apple thing that I didn't care for. Wow. The food was phenomenal, but the service has been better than some of the Michelin restaurants I've dined in. Seriously. I would not be surprised if this place received a star in the future. I've developed a keen taste for good burgers and I was not disappointed. Their burger here is definitely in the top 5 of my list and I try my best to eat a burger in every city that I visit (I would guess that I've had a burger more than 50% of the time in the 122 cities I've visited). My husband doesn't like paellas but I convinced him to get it since Shaker and Spear were known for seafood and he was about to get a non-seafood dish; it would have been a shame if we both had non-seafood dishes (I wasn't about to give up my burger order!) The scallop appetizer was delicious. I typically don't eat raw seafood, so was hesitant to eat the scallop but it was very exquisite and very fresh. The service: they replaced the silverware at every course like the typical Michelin star restaurants. The carefully selected silverware were always delivered in a tray then set on the table in front of us according to formal table setting guidelines. When my burger wasn't cooked in the manner that I requested, my server was very apologetic. In addition to this, the general manager came over to personally apologize and gave a very generous discount to our bill. Last, but not least, he came by again personally to pour me a glass of very nice red wine that paired deliciously with a burger. This is one of the most impressive restaurants my husband and I have had the pleasure to dine in for 2018 (or even 2017!) Our only regret is that we do not live in Seattle so do not have the luxury of dining here regularly. The next time we're in Seattle, we will definitely dine again-- and if this is how the restaurant is managed, then we are definitely staying at the hotel. read more

Warm greeting by host, he offered the house juice that had beets, greens, and apple juice. I wasn't so sure, he suggested a tasting. Surprisingly good and healthy to boot.On the brunch menu, I selected dungenous crab cake benedict with ham, and avocado. Never occurred to me to throw eggs atop a crab cake, but oh what a delight. Tender crab layered with ingredients is simply delicious. Accompaniment with fresh largely diced skillet potatoes. The ambience is oak tables and people completely engrossed in conversation. The water carafe is a nice addition to the table. If you're looking for a calm, comfortable setting for conversation and good food, this is the place. read more

My husband and I had a wonderful experience! We practically went here every night we stayed at the Palladian hotel. We always sat right at the bar for a more interactive dining experience. Very classy high-end restaurant. It's next to the lobby of the Kimpton Palladian hotel in downtown Seattle a couple of blocks from Pike Place Market. I had a whole branzino and mac and cheese. The branzino was huge and still had bones in it; it was kinda challenging picking out the bones. Had dinner with my friend here. It was located in downtown area, and we liked the setting and vibe of this place. We had branzino and seafood pealle. The branzino was fresh and toasted well, with the skin being crispy and the inner being tender. Various veggies were served with the branzino, including beets. The seafood pealle was great too, with various seafoods and some squid ink ailo. We had pistachio scrumble and lemon meringue for desserts, and both of them were well presented and tasted yummy. We were only here for the weekend, and the front desk manager of our hotel recommended this restaurant. We were so impressed with our Friday night dinner that we also made reservations for Saturday! The food was amazing - particularly the Parmesan truffle fries! The drinks were phenomenal- one of the best cosmo's of my life. Honestly. But what really did it is the service. The restaurant has been closed for COVID, and everyone was clearly so excited to be back in business. We had fabulous conversation with Ryan, Josh, and Travis. Every bite was great! Came with a work acquaintance for dinner. I ordered the arctic char with potato gratin and a couple of sides, the charred broccolini and rosemary popovers. The char was superb; each bite deliciously accompanied by the rich potato dish and braised leaks. One of the best seafood dishes I have ever had. My friend had the lamb meatballs and the chevre, beets and butter lettuce salad. She reported both were outstanding. For desert we split the boozy cherry and chocolate pot de creme, which was divine. We ordered the clams as an appetizer with some bread on the side and hot damn, that bidness was delish. We got oysters and a slab of bread to share as well. The oysters didn't taste as fresh as I've ever had, but no stomach turning non-sense here. The herb glaze atop wasn't too bad either, but still not my favorite. If an oyster is high class, there's no need to dress him up. For the main course we ordered the meat of the say which was a giant slap of beef to share with the table. T'was seared nicely on the edges and juicy through the middle, but it still left something to be desired. The carrots and potatoes served with it were OK too, but if I expected seasoning anywhere, it would've been there. A sprig of rosemary or some salt would've been a nice touch. Ok...where to begin?? We are staying at the Palladian and during the 5 o'clock wine hour in the lobby they suggested we do the chef table at the hotel's restaurant, the shaker and spear. So the next night (tonight) we went. One word....WOW! From amazing service to fabulous food to talented chefs, this restaurant has it all. We ordered an amazing bottle of Cabernet (not over priced) and I started with a smoked salmon Cesar salad, my husband had the crab avocado salad. Both great. For mains I did the scallops and hubs did the chicken. Absolutely amazing! The size of the scallops, the perfect crust was something you can only dream. We also got treated to a sampler of goat cheese smoked salmon bread and grilled octopus courtesy of sous chef David. Do yourself a favor and go to this restaurant. You will not be disappointed. I'm already thinking about going back for this steak with blue cheese dish I saw them making. PS: get the fudge brownie thingy for dessert. We really only came here for the fries... and they were really good. Thin, but not quite shoestring, crispy, but not the hard crispy, soft and fluffy inside, but not so much of it that they went soggy. It's hard to make a really good french fry, and this place does it well. It was so good that we have debated on numerous occasions on whether we should have fries for dinner again. Service is prompt and friendly, and the other dishes look good but we haven't tried them yet (which is why I'm doing 4*, not 5*). She spilled wine (twice), missed requests and was not always there for us. Other staff standing around should have assisted. The experience would be much better if the staff functioned as a team of waitstaff - instead of the traditional roles of waitress, busser, etc. Wine List - improved dramatically over what is on the website but there a lot of masses produced large labels. I was very impressed with my dining experience at Shaker and Spear! This place has been on my list to try out since it opened. My boyfriend was visiting from the East Coast last week and we decided to stay in Seattle (I'm an Eastsider) at the Palladium. When we arrived at Shaker and Spear, Tuesday 11/19 around 7:30pm, we were a little weary from driving back 3.5 hours from Lake Chelan earlier that day. We were seated in a booth towards the back of the restaurant. Our hostess, not sure her name, but she reminds me of Ellen Page, was very elegant, courteous and attentive... much more than I ever expect from a hostess. Once seated, our waitress came over promptly with such joy, good energy and the perfect mix of class and sense of humor. She explained to us some of the menu items and I loved the number of wines they had on tap. We had a bottle of the Columbia Valley 2014 Sauvignon Blanc, which went perfectly with our meal. To start, we ordered the Dill Fried Smickles (Spelt and Pickles), which were delicious (I had never tried Spelt before), however I was a bit disappointed (based on a new-found love affair with pickles) because there were only 2 pickles and probably 10-15 Spelt. For dinner, I ordered the Crusted Rockfish which comes with clams, pancetta, swiss chard and lumache, a type of pasta I haven't heard of. I was worried that there'd be an over abundance of the lumache (typical of pasta dishes, which I try to not order), but there was a perfect mix of all ingredients. My boyfriend ordered the Seafood and Chorizo Paella in squid ink which I did not try, but he seemed very pleased with it. You can put your bill on your Room if you are staying in the Palladium, which is always convenient. Dessert options sounded great, but we were definitely full from dinner. I would definitely dine here again. The decor is sleek, chic and what I'd call Scandinavian/PNW modern. Loved the waitress and staff - sometimes you can come to restaurants like this and they try to be overly pretentious or aren't very engaging, which was not at all the case. read more

I have had the benefit of awesome restaurant experiences near me in Portland, Oregon. I have traveled the world. I know exceptional. I had an exceptional experience a few nights ago at Shaker & Spear in Seattle. The food was fabulous, and I have had fabulous food many places--so let us be clear, the food was fabulous. What I want to write about are the staff. My experience with the staff, with great food and beautiful atmosphere, is what makes me want to write this review. I enter the place. Lovely smiling hostess greets me. I am passed off to a delightful woman who basically deposits me to my server. All night long, while aware of my wonderful server, Mitch, I grow to realize that everyone here--including the floor manager--is taking care of me (and not only me--everyone here!) I am so impressed. I don't need to "find my server" to make a request. People just show up and take care of things. Can this be? Even in the best of restaurants I have experienced, this is so seamless and wonderful and beyond. (And oh, did I say the food is utterly perfect too?) I now have a new understanding of what it means to be a customer. This was an entirely top-notch customer-centric experience. It was absolutely perfect. The whole night was grand, and this was so top shelf. Many thanks to Mitch, Lauren, Keenan, Christine and multiple others for a fantastic night. I sing your praises! Came her for lunch during a break from a conference. Reservations were easy to make and the restaurant was not busy at 12:30p on a Monday. The food options were diverse with a good selection of seafood. We started off with a seafood dip, truffle frites then had octopus, rock shrimp and crab cakes. The seafood dip was good (I think it's hard to do this wrong), the bread was soaked in oil but crunchy, and there was a generous portion of fries. Crab cakes were also pretty good and my friend enjoyed the rock shrimp though I think it could have used more seasoning. The octopus was coated with a sauce that I didn't care much for (it was too thick and I think took away from the delicious taste of charred octopus) but my other friend enjoyed it. Overall, we enjoyed Shaker and Spear and it was a good place to go to that offered timely service and was near the convention center. read more

In a town where many restaurants resort to boring options for an after-dinner sweet, their pistachio crumble is a welcome unique and we'll executed treat. We had the char grilled octopus and it was exceptionally smooth with the grill flavor bursting out in every bite. I also highly recommend the rock fish served with a carrot purée and roasted brussel sprouts. The ginger scallion sauce that was drizzled on top was also an excellent touch to blend everything in. The truffle fries was also an addictive side to munch on! This is a review of weekday breakfast only... My DH and I came here on a Thursday morning, just before 10am. They shut down the kitchen between 10am - 11am to prep for lunch, but we were not rushed to order, and were given a final call for food, which I appreciated. We also had the place to ourselves, which was nice. Our server did a great job. He was warm, friendly, and prompt without being obtrusive. We ordered coffee and it was fine, and they gave us a carafe of water for the table. My DH ordered the mushroom omelet with greens and wheat toast. I liked the toast presentation, with butter and jam in a cute, little dish. I thought the wheat bread looked especially good, but could have been toasted more. The omelet was amazing. There were so many mushrooms, and the omelet was perfectly cooked. The greens along side (so Parisian!) served as the perfect counterpoint to the heavy omelet. They were dressed with olive oil and super tart lemon juice, and topped with plenty of sea salt. (Though, some might find the salad too salty. We did not.) Now for the reason I only gave 3 stars... the blueberry ricotta "pancake." (My quotes, but the menu should have had quotes, too.) This was not a pancake. It wasn't even a cake baked in a pan. It was just odd. The presentation was exciting, but oh my. It was super dense and dry. I can see why it is covered in lemon curd, yogurt and has maple syrup on the side. Maybe it was due to our arrival just before the mid-morning break (like, it had been sitting out, already cooked?), but it was just not that good. I would have forgiven the distinct lack of pancake-ness if it had been light and tender like a blueberry loaf cake, but sadly, it was not. After eating the crispier bits, all of the blueberries on top (surprisingly only a handful!) and the delicious lemon curd, I gave up. Thankfully, I got a few bites of the omelet. The side of bacon was also tasty and crisp, but super greasy. They could have blotted it with a paper towel first, because there was a pool of grease on the plate. It tasted good but I worried about a heart attack with each bite. Ultimately, I would return. I am curious about dinner. The omelet was fantastic, but I would not get the "pancake" ever again. read more
