While visiting Pike Place Market today, we decided to stop at Cutter's Crabhouse for a late lunch. The restaurant is very nice inside with plenty of seating, two TVs above the bar, a full bar, and a good selection of craft beers. I ordered the Clam Chowder bowl $13.50 and the Salmon & Shrimp Louie Salad $39.50, while my wife started with the Shrimp Cocktail $20.00 and ordered the Snow Crab Legs $48.00 for her entrée. The clam chowder was a little disappointing when it arrived. It had a film across the top that made it seem like it had been sitting for a while and possibly reheated. Once I stirred it up, it was thick and actually had a good flavor, but the presentation definitely wasn't appealing. The Salmon & Shrimp Louie was good, and the salmon had a nice flavor. My wife's shrimp cocktail came with six shrimp and cocktail sauce for $20, which seemed pretty expensive for what you received. She did say the shrimp were good, though, and she really enjoyed her snow crab legs. She also ordered a Diamond & Gold Margarita, which she said was strong and delicious. I ordered Manny's Pale Ale. One thing that rubbed me the wrong way was the happy hour situation. The beer I ordered was included on the happy hour menu ($6.50) starting at 3:00 PM. When we checked out, I asked about the price ($8) but was told that because the order had been entered into the system before 3:00, they wouldn't honor the happy hour price. I understand policies are policies, but after spending over $150 on lunch, I thought they could have made that small adjustment. On the positive side, our server was friendly and attentive throughout the meal. Overall, it was a good lunch with some very good seafood. Really disappointing experience at Cutters Crab House. The service was terrible, and the whole place felt like a tourist trap. I ordered the Alaskan king crab legs, which were $125 a pound, and received three small legs that were honestly not very good. At that price, I expected much better quality. I've had better king crab from Costco for a fraction of the price. Between the poor service, overpriced food, and disappointing crab, I definitely wouldn't recommend this place. We stopped in for happy hour after a full day nearby at the sites. I've been here before and love the view. The park next to it is much brighter and cleaner than it used to be but there was a guy sleeping outside our window. Haha. The happy hour menu is quite good with $10 & $11 bites. Cutter's Crabhouse is a great spot for fresh seafood right next to Pike Place Market, with amazing views of Elliott Bay. We had an 8:45 p.m. reservation and were seated pretty close to on time, although we didn't get one of the coveted window tables. The views are still beautiful throughout the restaurant. We came here to redeem Landry's points, and that process was a little frustrating. We ended up about $12 short of using the full reward, and our server didn't really help us find a way to use the remaining balance, which was disappointing. The service was the biggest downside. The restaurant seems very understaffed. Our waiter was friendly, but he was clearly overwhelmed and we waited a long time to place our order, to get our food, and to pay our check. The freshly brewed iced tea was delicious, but the glasses are tiny, so I was constantly needing another one (and our server wasn't great about giving refills). The food, however, was excellent. The menu has a great Pacific Northwest focus with fresh seafood, steaks, and options for vegetarians and vegans. We shared the hot crab dip appetizer ($20) and loved it, but wish it came with more crostini for dipping! I had the wood grilled King salmon with crab cake special with vegetable couscous ($55), and it was really good and fresh! The crab cake was a total afterthough. It was burned, oily, and borderline inedible. My husband ordered the Dungeness crab legs and poke (both listed as appetizers), and they made a perfect light meal. He said both were outstanding and incredibly fresh. I also love that Cutter's has an open kitchen. You can see everything being made to order, and there were clearly plenty of people working in the kitchen (it just seemed like they needed more servers on the floor). The only other downside is the atmosphere. The restaurant feels dated, with older booths and a dining room that feels more focused on fitting in tourists than creating an upscale experience. For the prices, I expected a little more polish. There's no dress code, at least not one that's enforced, so jeans and a T-shirt are totally fine. They also have a great cocktail menu if you want to grab a drink. Overall, Cutter's isn't a tourist trap like many places around Pike Place. The food quality is genuinely higher than average, and I'd come back for the seafood alone. Hopefully they can improve the staffing and refresh the dining room because this place has a lot of potential. read more

I wanted this restaurant to be better than it was. Unfortunately, it was rushed, the fish was over complicated, and the drink was too sweet and not very strong. I tried the clam chowder, and it was dryer than others I've had on this trip. It tasted okay, but just wasn't hot enough or filled with enough clams. I asked about what fish was freshest tonight and my bartender told me the Chilean sea bass. The entree I got was over complicated. The fish was decent, flaky, buttery, full of flavor. The additional items with it were too much. It was placed on a shrimp cake, not sure why that was selected, it was way too much. It also had a combination of sauces that were confusing and didn't complement the fish. The cucumber ribbon and mushrooms were just strange. I think some steamed vegetables or potato or rice would have done better to pair with the fish. The drink was at least served correctly with one single ice sure. But it was way too sweet. The entire service was strange - I know I was there towards closing, but was told the bar was still open for drinks and food. So I took a seat there. But the continued conversation with the bartenders about how they were now going to have to stay later due to the additional orders coming in and how they still had a lot to stock and clean. Then my bartender disappeared after he gave me the check and I had to wait until the other bartender finally checked me out. So as I said - it's a great location - I was hoping for much better quality food and service and I left disappointed. 3 stars would be the highest I could rate based on my personal experience. read more

Cutters is back in the playlist, and I returned for the first time in years, you can't recreate that view on the Eastside. First up, a heads up. It's a corporate restaurant, the waiter's are all schooled in the art of upselling. Just relax and let them do their routine, they are required to so don't get upset. So when we first sat he told us about some items and when he came back around and I asked him which he thought was better or more popular he just the same explanation of one of the dishes word for word, sounded like someone rewound and replayed a recording. Other than that found myself looking for another beer through a good portion of my dinner because he never came and checked on us if we needed anything after the meals were served by someone else., 1 star deduction. Other than that the heirloom tomato salad was incredible. Also the halibut and Alaskan king crab were both on point. We shared two desserts that were both incredible. We went into town with family and decided to have lunch at Cutter's, great location right next to Pike Place with a gorgeous view (try and ask for a table by the window). Our server was a sweetheart, very friendly, helpful and made sure our water glasses were always filled. We had one of their lunch specials, fish and chips, salmon burger and a lobster sandwich. I loved my fish and chips, nice crispy batter and great fries. The lunch fish and lobster roll were also complimented. The only item that could have used a bit more sauce was the salmon sandwich, the fish was pretty dry. While I prefer a more traditional wedge, the homemade blue cheese dressing was phenomenal. I ordered the Fish and Chips -- unfortunately, it was a miss. Some of the worst I've ever had. When I broke open the fish, water trickled out, which was a pretty clear indication it wasn't fresh. My first red flag should have been that the menu didn't list the type of fish. The beer batter was overcooked, and the oil tasted old. My dining partner had the Dungeness crab and shrimp fettuccine and said it was great. As we were leaving, the bar-area server thanked us for coming in and asked if we needed parking validated -- which we appreciated, since our server had forgotten. Parking isn't fully validated, but you do get a 50% off sticker. Overall, Cutters was a one-and-done for us. We both agreed it's not worth a return visit. read more

I sooo wanted to give Cutters a higher rating because our experience here started fantastic! The restaurant inside is spacious and clean, and there's a beautiful view of the water if you're sat by the window like my family was. Our waiter was super patient and detailed in explaining specials and his own recommendations. The seafood here was fresh! The oysters were delicious, the salmon was cooked so well and weren't even close to being dry, and the crab legs and clams were delectable. But things fell short towards the end when we had a complaint about our bill because they charged us more than what was on the menu for the side of mushrooms. We waited over twenty minutes for the updated bill and while my hubby was eating his bread pudding, he found some sort of parchment paper still left inside. We told our waiter and he waved it off, saying it was a small mistake. I think if we're being charged a lot for food, we shouldn't find inedible things in it. And if we do, an apology should be given. After that, it took our waiter even longer to return our final bill to us. It felt like he was avoiding us. Since i was short on time and the family was tired, we ate here anyways but with the vibe off, didn't bother to get my usual whole dungeness or king crab. Why spend money when the staff doesn't smile at you. Got the kids their kids meals, and a couple sandwiches. Open face crab sandwich looked like crap but tasted great. The cold lobster and shrimp roll was good. We were there the whole lunch rush and noticed they didn't once go into the salt water tank for a fresh crab or have fresh seafood placed in the ice bins for display. I would understand if there was a wait for a table, but there wasn't, one of the waiters was very rude to my daughter, which was very surprising for a grown man to give a 14 yr old girl an attitude for a simple question about the menu. Last was the bill, somehow I was triple charged, my bill the table next to me and an order from the bar.. please don't ask how that happened, I just happen to see it as I walked out on my phone. The best way they saw to rectify the issue was to offer to cover my glass of wine. Seriously, No thank you. Just charge me correctly, would take "3-4 business days" to refund charge...
