The place is in a hotel, small and classy. We made reservations and might recommend to make one just to be safe. The crew is very attentive and nice. We ordered cod beignets , charred octopus and artic char, they were all so yummy. Katie was our server and she made our experience even better! Great service and great food, definitely recommend it! read more

Had dinner with my friend here. It was located in downtown area, and we liked the setting and vibe of this place. We had branzino and seafood pealle. The branzino was fresh and toasted well, with the skin being crispy and the inner being tender. Various veggies were served with the branzino, including beets. The seafood pealle was great too, with various seafoods and some squid ink ailo. We had pistachio scrumble and lemon meringue for desserts, and both of them were well presented and tasted yummy. Good service, and we really enjoyed the time here. read more

We were only here for the weekend, and the front desk manager of our hotel recommended this restaurant. We were so impressed with our Friday night dinner that we also made reservations for Saturday! The food was amazing - particularly the Parmesan truffle fries! The drinks were phenomenal- one of the best cosmo's of my life. Honestly. But what really did it is the service. The restaurant has been closed for COVID, and everyone was clearly so excited to be back in business. We had fabulous conversation with Ryan, Josh, and Travis. If we lived here, we would come all the time! I highly recommend this restaurant- whether you're coming for dinner or Just drinks and truffle fries! read more

I ordered the paella and salmon dish. Paella was good, but the small shrimps were kind of disappointing. Salmon dish wasn't hot at all, but it was tasty. Ordered the Kevin is a Girl? Outstanding staff that was very knowledgeable about the items on the menu. I had the seafood paella is absolutely fabulous. The octopus was tender and the squid ink aioli really brought it all together. Another person in our party had the snapper which was beautiful look at and he finished every last bite. We sat at the chef's bar and was able to watch our food being prepared and the chef even offered some comments about the food they were preparing. Overall really a enjoyable experience read more

Pretty excellent all around. We had the steak & shrimp, octopus, crab dip, fries, scallops, and the beet salad. Beet salad is to die for! Fries are super addictive, octopus was insanely tender & everything was really good. Highly recommend going not only for the food but for the service and experience. We sat at the bar and it was super cool cause you get to watch the kitchen make your food right in front of you. Super clean and organized. read more

We really only came here for the fries... and they were really good. Thin, but not quite shoestring, crispy, but not the hard crispy, soft and fluffy inside, but not so much of it that they went soggy. It's hard to make a really good french fry, and this place does it well. It was so good that we have debated on numerous occasions on whether we should have fries for dinner again. Service is prompt and friendly, and the other dishes look good but we haven't tried them yet (which is why I'm doing 4*, not 5*). Their cocktails weren't my favorite, but I think it's a preference thing as I have nothing negative to say about them. We'll definitely be back for sure! Mmmm... FRIES! read more

We tried this place because it was part of Restaurant Week and we had not been here before. I got to try a number of things, but I ordered the Beet Cured Salmon appetizer, Arctic Char, and had the Panna Cotta to finish. The salmon pastrami was fantastic. I had nothing like it before and I have to say, while not the "Star" of the dish, the carrot griddle cake was fantastic. I have to make these at home, who thought! The Arctic Char was served on a polenta that was much like grits and delicious overall. And of course we finished with the Panna Cotta, which was wonderfully creamy with the jam that I could just sit and eat all day. I also got to try the Clams Casino appetizer, which was ok but I am glad I didn't order it. The Lamb Bolognese was also available for me to try and I thought it was quite good. Certainly a larger portion but the flavors were excellent. Although not not he restaurant week menu, the parmesan truffle fries were ordered and enjoyed by the table. These are certainly something I would recommend, especially if you like fries! I would recommend this place to friends and would consider going back. The overall space is a bit noisy for the size, which is unfortunate. read more

Was honestly not blown away by anything I ate. I got the halibut cheeks. They warned that it was a small portion and man, it was. About 2-3 bites. We had a very mixed experience last night. Here is the quick review: Food: hit and miss some dishes were a 1 and others a 5 Apps Oysters - 5 Winter salad - 2 (acid dressing was awful) Octopus- 5 Truffle fries - 5 Hot Cheeto calamari- 4 Mains Bronzino - 1 (charred) NY Strip - 2 (unseasoned) Fried snapper - 4 for food 2 for value v. price Gnocchi w Rockfish - 4 Scallops - 4 Dessert Chocolate Sunday - 5 Creme - 2 (heavy and just not good) SERVICE - Our waitress was eager and nice, although quite jittery and hyper. She spilled wine (twice), missed requests and was not always there for us. Other staff standing around should have assisted. The experience would be much better if the staff functioned as a team of waitstaff - instead of the traditional roles of waitress, busser, etc. Wine List - improved dramatically over what is on the website but there a lot of masses produced large labels. Sommelier was helpful in choosing wine. Dining room/ambience - excellent Overall - a restaurant with potential but so far unfulfilled. read more

I was very impressed with my dining experience at Shaker and Spear! This place has been on my list to try out since it opened. My boyfriend was visiting from the East Coast last week and we decided to stay in Seattle (I'm an Eastsider) at the Palladium. When we arrived at Shaker and Spear, Tuesday 11/19 around 7:30pm, we were a little weary from driving back 3.5 hours from Lake Chelan earlier that day. We were seated in a booth towards the back of the restaurant. Our hostess, not sure her name, but she reminds me of Ellen Page, was very elegant, courteous and attentive... much more than I ever expect from a hostess. Once seated, our waitress came over promptly with such joy, good energy and the perfect mix of class and sense of humor. She explained to us some of the menu items and I loved the number of wines they had on tap. We had a bottle of the Columbia Valley 2014 Sauvignon Blanc, which went perfectly with our meal. To start, we ordered the Dill Fried Smickles (Spelt and Pickles), which were delicious (I had never tried Spelt before), however I was a bit disappointed (based on a new-found love affair with pickles) because there were only 2 pickles and probably 10-15 Spelt. For dinner, I ordered the Crusted Rockfish which comes with clams, pancetta, swiss chard and lumache, a type of pasta I haven't heard of. I was worried that there'd be an over abundance of the lumache (typical of pasta dishes, which I try to not order), but there was a perfect mix of all ingredients. My boyfriend ordered the Seafood and Chorizo Paella in squid ink which I did not try, but he seemed very pleased with it. You can put your bill on your Room if you are staying in the Palladium, which is always convenient. Dessert options sounded great, but we were definitely full from dinner. I would definitely dine here again. The decor is sleek, chic and what I'd call Scandinavian/PNW modern. Loved the waitress and staff - sometimes you can come to restaurants like this and they try to be overly pretentious or aren't very engaging, which was not at all the case. read more

Delicious!! We had the scallops pork chops burger and croquettes and shared and everything perfectly done perfectly delicious

Came her for lunch during a break from a conference. Reservations were easy to make and the restaurant was not busy at 12:30p on a Monday. The food options were diverse with a good selection of seafood. We started off with a seafood dip, truffle frites then had octopus, rock shrimp and crab cakes. The seafood dip was good (I think it's hard to do this wrong), the bread was soaked in oil but crunchy, and there was a generous portion of fries. Crab cakes were also pretty good and my friend enjoyed the rock shrimp though I think it could have used more seasoning. The octopus was coated with a sauce that I didn't care much for (it was too thick and I think took away from the delicious taste of charred octopus) but my other friend enjoyed it. Overall, we enjoyed Shaker and Spear and it was a good place to go to that offered timely service and was near the convention center. read more

I still like the ricotta pancake here although it's changed a bit. My main issue now is the wait time. We came in with a brunch reservation for 7 and were seated promptly but we didn't get our food for over an hour. It happened to be my friend's wedding day (as I indicated in the reservation) but there was no concern for our time. We were all also starving and it wasn't overly busy. read more

Their charred octopus. *Inserts delighted groan here* I can't ever seem to talk about their charred octopus without immediately shivering with delight at the memory of it. It's delicious! And wonderfully charred! And a good portion! Much like my beloved charred octopus, their other dishes are great. Decent portions and well-balanced. They have well seasoned dishes with acidity and brightness where you need it. Even their desserts have been fantastic. In a town where many restaurants resort to boring options for an after-dinner sweet, their pistachio crumble is a welcome unique and we'll executed treat. Shout-out to their amazing bartenders for their wonderful cocktails and for making me mocktails that allow me to relive the joys of being able to drink delicious concoctions minus the hangovers. read more

Every bite was great! Came with a work acquaintance for dinner. I ordered the arctic char with potato gratin and a couple of sides, the charred broccolini and rosemary popovers. The char was superb; each bite deliciously accompanied by the rich potato dish and braised leaks. One of the best seafood dishes I have ever had. My friend had the lamb meatballs and the chevre, beets and butter lettuce salad. She reported both were outstanding. For desert we split the boozy cherry and chocolate pot de creme, which was divine. The atmosphere was casual and upbeat, a bit noisy but pleasant. The service was spot on. I highly reccommend this spot in downtown. read more

Perfect for a date night or just sitting enjoying some good food and drinks! The service here is amazing, and the entrees are masterfully crafted. We had the char grilled octopus and it was exceptionally smooth with the grill flavor bursting out in every bite. I also highly recommend the rock fish served with a carrot purée and roasted brussel sprouts. The ginger scallion sauce that was drizzled on top was also an excellent touch to blend everything in. The truffle fries was also an addictive side to munch on! I was bummed but we didn't have room in our belly to try the pistachio ice cream, which was one of the reasons we came here -- so check that out too if you have room for more! read more

The breakfast sandwich was pretty good, although at $14 for a fried egg and a sausage in a ciabatta, I was expecting more. Ask for the selection of sauces and there are some really good flavours in there. $3 apple juice (with free refills) was a nice touch - freshly squeezed and really good. Service was fast and good, although it was pretty empty so I would have expected that. Overall, good food, but was a little on the expensive side for what it was. read more

This is a review of weekday breakfast only... My DH and I came here on a Thursday morning, just before 10am. They shut down the kitchen between 10am - 11am to prep for lunch, but we were not rushed to order, and were given a final call for food, which I appreciated. We also had the place to ourselves, which was nice. Our server did a great job. He was warm, friendly, and prompt without being obtrusive. We ordered coffee and it was fine, and they gave us a carafe of water for the table. My DH ordered the mushroom omelet with greens and wheat toast. I liked the toast presentation, with butter and jam in a cute, little dish. I thought the wheat bread looked especially good, but could have been toasted more. The omelet was amazing. There were so many mushrooms, and the omelet was perfectly cooked. The greens along side (so Parisian!) served as the perfect counterpoint to the heavy omelet. They were dressed with olive oil and super tart lemon juice, and topped with plenty of sea salt. (Though, some might find the salad too salty. We did not.) Now for the reason I only gave 3 stars... the blueberry ricotta "pancake." (My quotes, but the menu should have had quotes, too.) This was not a pancake. It wasn't even a cake baked in a pan. It was just odd. The presentation was exciting, but oh my. It was super dense and dry. I can see why it is covered in lemon curd, yogurt and has maple syrup on the side. Maybe it was due to our arrival just before the mid-morning break (like, it had been sitting out, already cooked?), but it was just not that good. I would have forgiven the distinct lack of pancake-ness if it had been light and tender like a blueberry loaf cake, but sadly, it was not. After eating the crispier bits, all of the blueberries on top (surprisingly only a handful!) and the delicious lemon curd, I gave up. Thankfully, I got a few bites of the omelet. The side of bacon was also tasty and crisp, but super greasy. They could have blotted it with a paper towel first, because there was a pool of grease on the plate. It tasted good but I worried about a heart attack with each bite. Ultimately, I would return. I am curious about dinner. The omelet was fantastic, but I would not get the "pancake" ever again. read more

Really happy that I stayed at the Palladian for my anniversary a few weeks ago and was told by people prior to arriving that this restaurant was an actually great restaurant with a former LA chef. The husband and I ate here our first night and didn't have too much of a problem getting a table - particularly a "chef's table" view of the kitchen underway. We ordered far too much and on top of that were treated to dessert and champagne on the house because it was our anniversary. I recommend the salted cod beignets. The raclette plate was nice, but nothing so spectacular to write home about. The snapper is fabulous, but be prepared to get your hands dirty as you try to get all the meat off those bones. Even though we were stuffed, they insisted on giving us dessert. We ordered the pistachio crumble and it was one of the best desserts I have ever had in my life. If I lived in Seattle, I would frequent this place for sure. read more

Highlights: Loved the branzino! Not a local fish to the PNW, but delicious. It is served whole over roasted vegetables and red cabbage. The red cabbage and roasted vegetables were forgettable, but the the fish was tender, fall off the bone, buttery, perfectly cooked, perfectly seasoned, quite fantastic! The rockfish was quite good as well, crusted, cooked perfectly, nice and tender. Delicious brussel sprouts, perfectly crisp. The fish was also served with a carrot puree, which was regrettably bland and did not mesh with the fish. Rosemary popover with black lava salted butter- delish Downfalls: Grilled Prawns- Inedible!!! Insanely over cooked, had that nuked in the microwave texture, poorly seasoned, just disappointing. Dungeness crab dip- just ok, would be good for a large group as this dish is very filling with an insane amount of cheese topping, not great for a date with two or you won't be able to eat your entree. Draft beer list was abysmal!!! Only four beers on draft, two of them were orange flavored (I'm not kidding), beer that was ordered (bad Jimmy's bad light), was only served half full, literally only filled beer glass half way, maybe got a 4oz pour for a 6dollar draft Service- the wait staff inattentive, lacking knowledge about the menu (when we asked about the Dungeness crab replied, "ya know the crab is like really crabby, ya know, it's like prepared like crab." When we asked to order appetizers we were told we couldn't order appetizers until everyone at our table ordered their entrees at the same time, bizarre. Overall- would recommend this restaurant for entree's only, skip the appetizers, skip the coffee and desert (both were pedestrian), hopeful you will get a better waiter than we had and aren't hoping to get a beer on draft. read more

Party of three walked into Shaker and Spear there were only seats at the bar, no biggie. But then it gets fun...The hostess at Shaker mentioned their sister restaurant, in the same hotel lobby, servered the exact same menu and there were tables over there. She nicely walked us over and sat us at a table. It was a little weird considering all the other tables were dirty will finalized bills sitting on the table abandoned for God knows how long just waiting for the service staff to bus the tables. Just a suggestion to Shaker and Spear team-- DON'T SEND PEOPLE OVER TO THE DUMP CALLED PENNYROYAL!!!! Disappointed. I booked a table at Shaker + Spear more than one month in advance for a very special occasion. After reading several reviews in Yelp and other websites I was really excited about the food and service I would get but I guess that I set the expectations too high. I was seated at a table that was not located in the main area (a table in another restaurant with a different decor, in other words), even though there were tables available in the main area. The host took a while to get us seated (even though they confirmed they had my reservation) and the table wasn't even properly cleaned. The service was pretty forgettable too, no dishes or desserts were explained, the server was not knowledgeable on the menu and she constantly forget about us and the special occasion went completely unnoticed. Food was served quickly and overall it's good (although on the saltier side, even for a person used to salty food). I have tried better food but this was not the worst neither. It definitely didn't live up to the expectations that I set based on other reviews though. Overall, I think there are at least 5 other restaurants in the Downtown/Belltown area on the same price range that are way better than this one, especially with regards to how you are treated. read more

Ever dreamt of gone fishing in the Pacific Wild Northwest without leaving your modern life? Shaker + Spear can transport your senses there with its chic selection of seafood, greens and wine. Appetizers were a surefire: we dug into a classic version of creamy but crisp Mac + Cheese ($9), and a house-made Rosemary Popovers ($10) served with hand-wiped butter and black salt. Both were diabolically delicious. For the main-dish category, two entrees particularly stood out: Rock Fish served with Asparagus, fortified by loosely scattered gnocchi, peas and pancetta ($29) and Hot Coriander Dungeness Crab ($26) showing off its asian flavors -- similar to those of its salt and pepper cousin of the Chinese and Vietnamese cuisines. My overall experience at S+S left me amazed by its delicious dishes gleefully divorced from old-school notions of propriety, service and polish. True, the restaurant's indoors felt upscale with its modern furniture, white-cloth napkins, candle lighting and dressed-up clientele. But, its tattooed staff worked casually around the tables without being pretentious or extra polished. If I had to change one thing is its plate-ware that felt tired and outdated, and doing disservice to the delicious creations it carried out of the kitchen. S+S is self-consciously ambitious in culinary techniques, and locally-sourced seafood -- all things that made me fall in love with this restaurant in the first place. read more
