Shake Shack has one of my favorite burgers ever, and Shake Shack Garden State Plaza did not disappoint! I ordered the Shack Stack (basically just a Shack Burger but with a fried mushroom on top), a double Shack Burger with pickles (my go-to), cheese fries (with cheese on the side), and a chocolate milkshake. It was my first time trying the Shack Stack and I am obsessed! The fried mushroom on top makes the burger taste even meatier and gives the burger a little more substance. It almost tasted like there were onion rings on top. The Shack Burger was perfect and loaded with lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, and lots of cheese. The cheese fries were also awesome, and we got the cheese on the wide to keep things crispy. I also loved my chocolate milkshake, which was tasty and thick. This is incredibly embarrassing to admit - especially as a self-proclaimed burger lover - but I've never been to Shake Shack. At least, not until today, since my husband and I decided it was high time to make things right. There are three kiosks situated right at the front of the restaurant and these seem to be the main way to place an order, along with grabbing a numbered placard from the counter. You can still place an order at the register if you're paying cash (or craving real human connection), but I noticed workers aren't statically stationed by the register here; most are busy preparing food in the back. I actually liked the kiosk method of ordering, especially since it made it easy to order my burger just the way I wanted it. I'm told Shake Shack's gotten way more amenable to customization since their inception, and I found that to be true. I added an avocado to my Shack burger while my husband added an extra patty, and it was quick and easy to see the exact cost breakdown. The burgers themselves were good. In true smashed burger form, there were crispy edges that got a near bacon-like texture from the hot grill. That said, I fou This particular Shake Shack is located on the southeast corner of Westfield Garden mall (the side that faces Route 17), which can be both a good and bad thing. It's great on Sundays, when most of the mall is closed due to Bergen County blue laws and there's plenty of parking. 1st time ever my order was wrong. Instead my favorite SmokeShack, I received Smoky Classic. ( please keep this names completely different so no confusion!) Didn't want to be fussy so I ate it but because I took my friend with me who had never been there before - I had to explain her that this is not what I promised. When paying with cash one has to order tru register and thank you for this possibility to still be able to use cash for food. Another issue was that the tables were not swiped, still left with leftovers from previous customers. Its ok I swiped it with the napkins and water you provide to drink. So not a big deal. Lastly, what is wrong with the floors? Sticky from dirt or soap accumulation? I had to be careful walking because it was more like ice rink than a walking floor. Get a new mop, use water with less detergent. Do something. What used to be like a cool, cozy place to enjoy terrific hamburgers, became a second hand stop with dirty floors, dirty tables and wrong orders. Its ok to get one thing wrong but triple magic get noticed. I have to say that employees are trying to be nice, bringing food to the table and smiling but I prefer to have old menu on the wall, listening clerk, clean tables and clean floors. Pretty good - the mall location at the East entry sandwiched at the corner by Macy's, service was reasonably quick at 11, and while I couldn't order ahead of time before the restaurant was open to pick up after 11a, they had 3 kiosks to order at and not much of a line so I was #3 in line to get food once I ordered. Our family has visited this Shake Shack location on Sundays more times than I can count and it has always been relatively quiet, especially at opening at around 11-11:30 AM. Most of the customers on Sundays comprise of families though, so if you can't stand kids, this might not be the best place to go. There are plenty of tables inside and you can even sit outside within the mall. The employees here have always been very friendly and accommodating when we request for extra sauces or utensils. They definitely exemplify the typical Shake Shack employee customer service.
