Peanuts: While you are waiting for the main course, help yourself to complimentary peanuts. It was a great way to keep occupied prior to the meal, especially because I always enjoyed physically cracking open the shells. I recommend taking two disposable paper trays; the first tray is for the peanuts and the second tray is for the shells and the red/brown testa that covers each kernel. Just don't go "nuts" and have too many because you'll want to save your appetite for the main course. Little Cheeseburger: This single patty burger was served "all the way." Without any extra charge, I ordered all eight toppings permitted along with a splash of A1 steak sauce. The bun itself did not have the most stellar appearance, but otherwise this burger was a masterpiece because all the fixings blended well together. This burger is little by name, but it is not little by size. Five Guys Shake: Named after the restaurant, this milkshake was ultra thick. Similar to the burger, aerosol whipped cream and mix-in specialty flavors are complimentary. I decided to explore my taste buds by selecting the bacon mix-in. The texture was sweet and salty. Although there were plenty of crunchy bacon bits, many of them weren't chopped small enough and I wasn't able to slurp the bacon through the straw. I would have preferred that this drink be served in a clear plastic cup because plastic tends to keep drinks colder. On a less important note, it also compromises the appearance because I can't see the drink. Although my feeling about the milkshake are "mixed," I will definitely return to Five Guys to purchase their burgers and next time I will try the fries. The last time I went to a Five Guys (in another state), it took an eternity to receive our food. Luckily there was none of that at this Hackensack location. Here, our orders came out in a reasonable time, the cheeseburgers were made to our preferences, and the fries were hot and fresh. Do not order from this place. I placed an order for pick up thru DoorDash. Marilyn, the supervisor, told me someone else picked it up and there was nothing she could do. When I questioned how did they give my food without confirming it was my order her response was "i don't know." So not only did I not get my food but I was also assed out on the money I paid. When I contacted DoorDash , she refused to cancel the order on her end. She actually said she didn't know how to cancel my order, she didn't know what else I could do, she didn't even know the phone number to the store. When DoorDash contacted the store, someone else came up to me and told me they were preparing my order. I guess she didn't know how to apologize to me and told me they are remaking my order (which is something she could've done to begin with). (Driver told us he double checked that this was all we ordered with the restaurant and I believe him.) I have had great burgers at five guys. But today at this location it was just ok. I got a double Cheese burger with bacon and mushrooms. I think it was average because the cheese wasn't melted,almost cold. To me it just shows the cook didn't care. The meat was hot and well cooked,just the cheese was cold. A decent burger for when you need it. There are a couple better places, and Five Guys isnt exactly the cheapest burger around. But for what you pay for, you get (assuming you get a regular burger), two patties, cheese or bacon, and all the toppings you want for no charge extra. Now I know in the past I used to order a regular fries (not the large), and had copious amounts of it left with two people. I feel like they skimped out this time and didnt give nearly as much as they used too. (Used to take the cup, fill it, and take another cup-full and dump it in on top of the other cup, essentially making it two cups worth of delicious fries). Free peanuts! After hearing so much about Five Guys (apparently Ronald Reagan's favorite burger place,) I finally got to try out this brand new location in Jersey. Five Guys makes it absolutely, positively clear that their potatoes are fresh, and not frozen. How do they do this? By stacking hundreds of pounds of potato sacks in the dining area to get their point across. The burgers are quite big, have two patties, and unlimited free topping choices of mayo, relish, onions, lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, fried onions, sauteed mushrooms, ketchup, mustard, jalapenos, green peppers, A-1 sauce, BBQ sauce, and hot sauce. Yes, you could conceivably order all of those toppings at no additional charge. I chose a bacon cheeseburger (hey I figured if you're going to clog your arteries, you might as well do it right,) with fried onions, jalapenos, and hot sauce. Naturally, I ordered fries too. Five Guys' refusal to use frozen, processed potatoes obviously works, because the fries are incredible, probably the best fries I've ever had. Crispy, tender, and not that heavy, at least as far as fries go. The burgers are also very fresh and very good, kind of like a much larger version of White Mana. The total for a burger and fries (no drink,) came to about $8. While it was a lot of food, it still seems slightly steep for a burger and fries.
