After hearing so much about Five Guys (apparently Ronald Reagan's favorite burger place,) I finally got to try out this brand new location in Jersey. Five Guys makes it absolutely, positively clear that their potatoes are fresh, and not frozen. How do they do this? By stacking hundreds of pounds of potato sacks in the dining area to get their point across. The burgers are quite big, have two patties, and unlimited free topping choices of mayo, relish, onions, lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, fried onions, sauteed mushrooms, ketchup, mustard, jalapenos, green peppers, A-1 sauce, BBQ sauce, and hot sauce. Yes, you could conceivably order all of those toppings at no additional charge. I chose a bacon cheeseburger (hey I figured if you're going to clog your arteries, you might as well do it right,) with fried onions, jalapenos, and hot sauce. Naturally, I ordered fries too. Five Guys' refusal to use frozen, processed potatoes obviously works, because the fries are incredible, probably the best fries I've ever had. Crispy, tender, and not that heavy, at least as far as fries go. The burgers are also very fresh and very good, kind of like a much larger version of White Mana. The total for a burger and fries (no drink,) came to about $8. While it was a lot of food, it still seems slightly steep for a burger and fries. I think I'd give it five stars if it had come out to $6. read more

Easily, EASILY, the best burgers ever, all burgers should aspire to be these, greasy horrendously bad for you but with one bite, you'd like to go down to those high density feed lots and say, "thanks, cows". I've been reading all good things about Five Guys, so I finally had to give in and try it out. I'd like to start of by saying that I was comparing the french fries and burgers to Smashburger and Bobby's Burgers, so I did have a benchmark that I was measuring against. Now that I've cleared that up, let's start with the fries -- Everything I read is how good the fries are because they are fried in peanut oil, but the reality was that I received the greasiest, soggiest fries ever, I couldn't even eat them, I could've probably just made mashed potatoes out of them. Second, the burger - Again, the greasiest, sloppiest burger, I've ever eaten. Now dont get me wrong, I do like a sloppy, greasy burger sometimes, but when the bread just disintegrates because of the amount of grease that's on the burger...that's taking it to another level. Additionally, I ordered bacon, which I was craving and when I got home and bit my teeth into it, I received mushrooms instead, which I said NO to. This DC area native has set up a fine operation in northern Jersey. Fresh meat and potatoes is certainly the main event. However, it's the toppings that allow for some serious customization here. Not the most amazing burger ever, but great atmosphere (relaxed and college-like) if you just want to chill. It's fast food, so you order, wait to pick it up, and sit down at one of the available tables. This is good if you want to just sit down, relax, and not feel rushed. We went on a Saturday night around 6:30 pm. The Houstons, Cheesecake Factory, and Maggiano's in the Riverside Hackensack mall all had a 1.5 to 2 hour wait. We decided to come here.. The place was about 1/2 full. Very simple wooden tables and chairs. The space was pretty small, but it was totally worth it. I got the bacon cheeseburger and it was very very good. The burger was fresh, juicy (even though it was well done) and the toppings were both fresh (fresh jalapeno peppers) and non-stingy. We also got a large order of fries, and we got a large cup of fries and the brown bag it came in had just as much fries as the amount in the cup. AVOID THIS PLACE IF YOU HAVE PEANUT ALLERGIES!!! The floor wasn't the cleanest, nor were the tables, but the food was good. As we were eating, the place got really busy, but we were just taking our time and the place cleared out shortly. I really don't get what the big deal is? I love eating burgers and heard SO much good stuff about this chain. I came on a Sunday afternoon with my GF to give it a try and it was really just OK. The joint itself is kinda dirty (not just because of the peanut shells everywhere), but overall it seemed like it was in need of a good scrubbing. The staff seemed lackidasical and disorganized. The burger I got was fine, but nothing out of this world. Now I know this may sound like sacrelig for some, but I've had equally as good a burger at say Wendy's! The notoriously fatty fries are supposed to be out of this world . . . and they were good. The issue was that they give you about 500 of them in a huge paper cup contained in a paper bag. I'm a big guy and it was even too many for me to eat and the bag they give them to you in absorbs all the grease so don't look at it while you're eating or you'll truly feel like a big fatty. read more

A friend of mine loves this place and goes often I go there once in a while with him. The burgers are pretty good and can get a bit messy and the fries are pretty good too and lots of different sodas. it's basically a good burger place and you'll end up leaving full. Also if you get free peanuts when you're waiting for your meal you have to take the shells off though. Overall just a pretty good burger place. read more

Definitely don't see what all the hype is about. I've had way better, at places not even known for their burgers. I had the cheese burger with mushrooms, I think the best part was the mushrooms. To make matters worst I was starving when I went there, and almost cried when I saw the size of the burger. I ordered online so I wouldn't have to wait when I got there. and online the burger looks pretty filling, I mean double patty, how could I go wrong? Talk about false advertising, and I still had to wait like 10 min when I got there. they said its because they make the fries fresh. which means they dumb it in the vat of grease when u get there. by the time I got home the brown paper bag they put the order in was soaked with grease. and I'm guessing they give us the free peanuts and that large serving of fries to make up for the lack of beef. I love this place. I come here often for their amazing, delicious burgers and fries. Service is great and has always been very quick the multiple times I have came here. I always get a burger and fries when I visit and their food is much better quality than that of other fast food restaurants. Plenty of seating in the place as well. This is my first time at Five Guys. They're out in California now, but I wanted my first time to be on the east coast. Of course I'm spoiled by In-N-Out so I'm gonna be biased. I love the customization here. Having bacon on my burger is a big plus! (I "heart" bacon) The toppings and ingredients you can put in your burger are endless. They even provided peanuts to snack on while waiting. The cajun fries are also delicious, an order of fries is huge, I couldn't finish it after the burger. Overall it's pretty good, but comes second to In-N-Out. The buns and the burger patty just don't taste as fresh. But I wouldn't mind eating here again. read more

I'm not usually a chain fast-food eater, but I love Five Guys. I got my first taste in State College, PA and did a happy dance when I saw it opening across from work nearly 2 years ago. This is a regular spot for the offices across the street, for tasty reasons. Fresh burgers, and you walk around the potatoes that turn into your fries. Lots of free toppings to choose from. This service at the Hackensack location is pretty good. My usual? Little (bacon, on occasion) cheeseburger, lettuce, pickles, mayo, ketchup. And regular fries split between 3 adults is just the right amount to keep you from wanting to crawl under your desk in the afternoon and take a nap. I tried the regular cheeseburger (two patties) once and felt so sick the rest of the day... WAY too much meat for me, but most of the guys I know can easily polish it off. read more

My first taste of 5 Guys was in Balitmore, MA - I never heard of them before until I took a trip out there a few years ago and was in heaven. I was wondering if they would ever franchise out to the greater east coast and they finally did. The burgers can get a bit sloppy if you start to over indulge on their free toppings. I usually stick with the traditional lettuce, tomato, onions and pickles. The burger patties are really nothing to rave about - its just fresh ground sirloin rather than a frozen patty. It beats all the traditional fast food joints since their patties are questionable. My true obsession are their french fries - its fresh and the portions are made for sasquatch! They have this steel cup where they add an extra scoop of fries that they pour down into your brown bag w/ burgers. You can easily share your large fries with 3 people! You can snack on their free peanuts while waiting for your food but don't get caught stealing them due to their, "no peanuts outside the restaurant." Enjoy! read more

Dare I say that this beats In n Out?! After being disappointed with nasty White Castle, our friends decided to show us this burger joint called Five Guys. It's ALMOST like INO with the white and red decor, not quite though. What I really liked was the fact that you could really customize your burger toppings and condiments. The meat patty is hand crafted, not like the thin slab at INO. The burger itself was greasy and hearty. Very comforting for fast food. I normally love Five Guys and this location is the one I come to the most. Today unfortunately I was not pleased with my service there. I usually call my order in, but today I was put on hold for almost 10 minutes. I could hear everything going on in the background but still no one picked the phone back up. I hung up and called back a few times but the line was of course busy. After I finally get through I say that I was unfortunately the person that was in the line and no one ever picked up again, but no apology or even and acknowledgment of my long wait in the phone. He rushed me on the phone to take my order instead. I finally pick up my food and start eating in my car and what do I find? A strand of hair right under my burger. That was the last straw for me. I had take out five guys for the first time. I had a bacon cheese burger with the works. Yum. They are most similar to an In-N-Out burger, but not quite. For those of us who live on the East Coast this is the closest I have gotten. The burger was delicious, but by the time I got to the second half all the fixings had my bun giving out under the weight. A fork was needed at the end. I loved the cajun fries. Spicy and covered with Old Bay how could you go wrong. We also ordered the hot dog with the works. I think I will stick with a tradition mustard and onions. The hot dog was so full that I was unsure how to eat it. You can order the food online and just go and pick it up. What a great thing. I will definitely order from them again. read more

I tried the Five Guys Burger at another location a couple of years ago, was not impressed & never came back. A few weeks ago I figured....everyone deserves a second chance......so stopped by for takeout for late lunch/early dinner. I think it's OK as long as it's your only meal of the day.....it's really heavy and greasy and portion size of the fries is huge. The Cajun style are good. I probably wouldn't eat it more than once a year though, and certainly not in my top 5 burger spot choices. read more

When our Uber Eats driver dropped off the wrong order from the restaurant, we called Five Guys Hackensack and placed a new order for pickup and they apologized that the Uber Eats driver messed up. We brought the wrong order back in and we unfortunately had to dispose of it. However, when we told the restaurant of the Uber Eats mess up, they gave us our reorder for free. I think that is a rare and honest thing to happen in today's day and age! We will most likely be picking up from there from now on. read more

My visit to five guys was alright. I placed my order as soon as I walked in and only had a few people waiting on the side for food. The burgers are cooked once you order so they take a while to actually cook. My order took about 12 minutes to come out. The person who took my order was not really friendly but was not rude either. I ordered my burger "all the way" which included mayo mustard ketchup tomatoes onions mushrooms and lettuce. I may have missed an ingredient in there. The toppings were proportioned well and the burger was not too messy. The patties were cooked to perfection and the cheese was melty and delicious. i ordered a small fry and the add bag fries after they load the small in. They also had some malt vinegar on the side to add to your fries. Overall service here isn't great but its fast food so who cares. The food is awesome and fresh. read more

So, I read all the reviews on Yelp about the Five Guys in Hackensack so I really wanted to finally try it out! I went on a Friday night, and I don't know if that was my mistake right off the bat.. It was mobbed. You order your food from the front counter, and then pick up your order from the side counter.. however this is the exact same location as the soda refills.. So there are a ton of people trying to get soda and a crowd of people in the exact same area waiting for their orders. It's super small and super crowded. A REALLY bad set up. ----Since this review, I have went back and had the bacon cheese hot dog. Oh my god, it was disgusting! haha why did I think that was such a good idea at first?! The order does take some time, so don't expect super fast food. I waited about 20-25 minutes for them to call our number. Oh, the food tasted pretty good, but they got my cheese burger with bacon, lettuce, tomato, fried onions and peppers wrong! After all that time waiting!! Nooo!!!! :( The place is simply way to crazy on a Friday night, way too small and I over heard the father and son next to me, receiving their order wrong as well.. ((Oh, by the way, who ever wrote that one large hamburger all the way would fill you, has a teeny tiny stomach! I could easy put back two but I didn't want to wait another 25 minutes for another wrong order! )) I would like to try the bacon cheese hot dog, IF I ever go back.. but honestly, the Grand Lux Cafe in the Garden State Plaza serves WAY better burgers then this place!! ;) You're better off. This place really ticked me off, here's why! I understand it's a job and I understand it's not always fun flipping burgers. To make time pass you talk to your coworkers, which again... is totally understandable. But during a rush, you should be more concerned about actually working, then trying to keep yourself from being bored. PAY ATTENTION! Out of all the burger joints, 5 Guys to me has a higher standard. To me, the burgers are fresher... with that being said, every order is different! WHICH MEANS.... LOOK AT THE FUCKING TICKET!!! I ordered NO KETCHUP, NO MAYO, bacon, lettuce, tomato, on my cheeseburger.... WHY DID I STILL FIND KETCHUP?!!! Funny part is, we checked the burger too. The order was to go... Me, being the guy that I am... couldn't wait to go home, so I start eating as I'm driving... on my second bite, I taste something different. I look down and there's ketchup everywhere. How did I miss this? I understand people make mistakes, but this place seems to make them more often... like last time... and the time before that! THIS IS THE LAST TIME I COME HERE! I loved it! Fresh taste, and they give you a MASSIVE amount of fries (the husband and I, both big eaters, shared the smaller size- imagine probably the xl burger king fries.)
