The grill

When attending an event in the Meadowlands vicinity, this was a short drive away. A bucketlist destination, is pricier now when factoring in congestion taxes returning to New York. For diners enthusiasts, this place is a must. This is similar to the burger sliders diner in Jersey City, but is more popular than that place. There was a bit of a wait as I sat down shortly before noon after securing my parking spot in the small lot. They were fulfilling takeout orders that had already been phoned in. I was one of the few customers sitting on the small number of stools at the counter. I was impressed as the manager kept track of all the orders being picked up coming through the door, including mine. I was happy with my order, although not the prettiest, it tasted just fine and was cheap.

I ordered two double cheeseburgers, cheese fries, and a strawberry shake. The burgers are small in size but packed with flavor. The beef had that fresh off the grill taste, with the cheese perfectly melted into the patties. The soft buns soaked up just enough juice without falling apart. Cheese fries were classic crispy fries with a generous layer of gooey melted cheese. The strawberry shake was thick, creamy, and had a real fruit flavor instead of tasting artificial. It's a small, old school spot with counter seating and a constant flow of customers, but the service was quick and friendly. The food comes out hot and fresh right in front of you. If you're craving a retro style burger experience, this place delivers on both flavor and atmosphere. Highly recommend.

Ok these aren't the best burgers ever. At some point they might have been but that's not today. I would say that White Manna is from a time when life might have been a little less complex. Everything about the place is stuck in a point in time far from today. The 1970s stools, the formica counter, the menu that have the push lettering, and there is barely enough room to stand as you walk in without getting too close to those sitting down. The cooktop is right in front of you when you walk in and all the burgers are made right in front of you. Burgers are served on thin white paper plates which you hand back to staff when you are done. All that doesn't matter to be honest, just order up a few cheeseburgers with onions on the potato buns and you'll forget your surroundings. The burgers are juicy and seasoned well. Go with the double patty as the buns hold two patties well. The staff was really friendly and quick to serve. It's about $2 for a single patty burger. The last time I checked, McDonald's no longer has a dollar menu and these burgers are way better. For that price, I'm down for a few burgers and a ton of nostalgia.

The most famous burger place in North NJ, this small burger hut's reputation spreads long way, even celebrities come here to try it out. The tiny shop sits around 10-12 guests right in front of the grill. First come first serve. The interior is old but still fills up with people waiting to dine-in. They got take out service as well. Probably a better option if you don't want to wait in a congested space. The burgers are tiny sliders. They also serve fries and shakes. They prices are super cheap, a cheeseburger for just $2.50. As I walked in for the first time, I didn't know what to do. The lady cooking the petties told me to wait to order until she asks. So I waited about 5 minutes. It took her about another 10 minutes to cook them. We also got some fries. 2 sliders and fries were only $9, astonishing!!! The sliders were really good. They do live up to the hype. The bread, the paddy, the cheese all of it comes together really well. The fries are basic though. So next time I'll stick to the sliders only, and probably will do takeout.

I've been coming here since the 90s! Always a treat to come here, and it's always perfection. Food has been on point for 30 years. Service is always friendly and fast. Great ambiance, as in we're all sitting around the grill where the magic is made; it's a quaint little intimate setting. I tend to chat with whoever's sitting around me. Love it.

3.5 stars would be more accurate of a rating, but since I had to choose I rounded up. I've heard of White Manna for over 15 years and I saw it on Food Network, so I did have high expectations that it didn't quite meet. The place is very cramped, with about 15 bar stools. You walk in and place an order when there's enough room on the grill, and you only start with number of burgers/cheeseburgers you want and if you want onions or not (if you say too much, the guy at the grill will be blunt- it's very North Jersey feeling). The other employees will get your sides/drinks orders as you wait for your burgers to cook. The sliders are made with fresh meat, fresh sliced onions that are grilled, American cheese, and Martin's potato rolls. The sliders were pretty good, but I definitely expected at least a juicier burger. The fries were good- crinkle cut and potato-y. *Warning: you will reek of onions! Take that into account before you plan the rest of your day or eat it in your car.

Really good burgers aka sliders. So many on the grill at once and just one cook. Get a seat at the counter (might have to wait a bit) OR order to-go (but wait "in-line" based upon other customers that came before you... kinda hard to figure out). Once you get the cook's attention, say: - How many burgers - Singles or doubles (patties) - With or without cheese - With or without grilled onions In May 2024 it was $2.50 for a cheeseburger and 4.00 for fries (good ñ, long, crinkle cut)

Homey juicy soft bun onion steamed sliders. Very good. Onions could use a little more precooking as slightly undercooked. Vanilla shake excellent. Simple and clean ingredients. Staff firm yet pleasant :) Ordering and paying system could be simplified as first you have to tell the fry cook the order than you have to repeat it to the person by the cash register. No biggie though. A great old school spot for a quick bite of fair priced quality fresh made to order sliders.

Best burgers according to food and wine? Probably not. Tasty burgers/sliders they were. Drove by this place and saw a line so I was naturally curious. I made a U-turn and drove into the parking lot. I walked in and it was really busy. They have a system that seems to work. One person takes the grill order, another does the drinks, and another of the fries. I ordered 3 sliders, 2 regular and one with cheese, all with onion. They were busy and no one was in a rush. The place is small. Everyone seems like they're regulars. I waited about 30 minutes for my meal out. The sliders came with a side of pickles unless you ask for them in the burger. They were ok. A little salt and pepper would've given them more flavor. 4 stars for an old establishment and friendly service. I'll be back to try their cheesesteak

What could improve everything let's just say that! Okay I'll start with the food being very, very bland no flavor whatsoever. I mean nothing I don't know if it was always like this but as of now from the burgers to the fries everything needs some seasoning. Okay now let's start with the staff most of them you can tell they really didn't want to be there just from their demeanor. I told them to add pickles on my burger while I placed my order and what do you know I never received my pickles so I had to ask her at the end once I got my order for the pickles which those come in handy given no seasoning. Everything is à la carte so there's no combos meals to order. For the most unflavored cheese burger ever you pay $2.50 for a single patty and $4.00 for a small fries without any salt on them other than the little salt packets they give you. And as far as the building itself ummm no it's very tiny which it gets crowded around lunchtime the time I went. I don't even see what the hype is all about because these are the worse burger and fries that I've had thus far I promise you. It's a big no for me!

Yeah if you want a greasy simple burger? With the juices and grease melting through the bag? Yup this is it. Super small places with just a few seats but def worth the squeeze in! They take the order pretty quick and you simply yell it out over people. They are grilled then steamed with such simple ingredients I didn't feel any heartburn afterwards. No it's not healthy one bit but it's freaken good! Way better than White Castle with the same kinda concept with small sliders kinda thing. But more homemade and won't have you on your toilet... I mean don't quote me on that haha

A little classic-shaped joint with tight diner seating that really only does sliders and a few other sandwich types. Fresh-made burgers on the grill, with/without cheese and onions, pickles to the side. Greasy spoon and better when hot off the grill. I've had better sliders (a bit tasteless on the meat - could use more salt/pepper - also note because of the onions, even without the onions, the burgers on the same grill have a strong onion flavor, which was a no go for my fellow diners who don't like onions). I did like the potato buns, better than standard slider buns. Not too expensive for a quick snack, and you can order online to pick up (which is nice as it takes a while to cook fresh up). They do take credit cards. They can also do larger orders if you give enough time. Classic, yes, I think one of these was at the 1939 World's Fair in Queens back in the day. Liked the sassy joke that the chef made when asking about nuts - he said he was the only one nuts there! :P

White Manna brings me right back to my college days. The best hamburgers in Bergen county, New Jersey. I got 4 double cheeseburger and black and white milkshake. The cheeseburgers were cooked to perfection. I eat 2 at Manna and saved 2 for later. Hot and fresh is how I like my cheeseburgers. Simply, White manna buts Mcdonalds, wendys and Burger king to shame! There is no premaking. The burgers are made to order unless you order on line. White Manna was a great trip down memory lane. I am here for the burgers, fries and the shakes.

Does anyone have a pic of White Manna's Impossible Burger? For a vegetarian, is it worth the $9 when their meat sandwiches are only a few bucks? I'm grateful for the addition to the menu!

Are your burgers really grass fed as Yelp advvertises?

For the price of the burgers, I can't imagine this is true.

I've heard comparisons between Marty's patties and those of Five Guys, and I can see why. They're fresh rather than frozen, and they're thin enough to approximate a smashed burger with those occasional bits of char while still maintaining enough heft that you can taste the beef. Their build-your-own burger menus are also similar, with plenty of free toppings to choose from. But I would argue that Marty's offers a fuller range of toppings from diverse cheese options to more premium ones like fried eggs, bacon, and avocado. I tried two of their signature burgers, and while the Swiss mushroom dijon was a hit with my husband (he pointed out the visible mustard seeds in the dijon sauce), the bacon avocado was the clear winner in my book. It not only had bacon that was texturally perfect (crispy and densely packed atop the patty), but also picture-ready slices of avocado. For that to come out of a fast food restaurant kitchen within a matter of minutes? Color me impressed. The banana pudding is dynamite. I'm usually neither a fan of banana nor puddings because those things combined just sound like mush. But here, the pudding is more of a whipped, airy texture, and I believe it when the lid says 'made fresh' because there were chunks of banana nestled in every bite. I admit it might not be much to look at, but I was hooked after a single spoonful (I'm actually greedily scraping the bottom of the container as I type this review). The restaurant has a diminutive dining space (I counted four two-tops at most), but it feels super cozy and casual. I took my food to go and found nothing had deteriorated - in flavor, temperature, or texture - during my drive home because everything is well packaged. There's paid street parking available, but this area of Hackensack is pretty dense so you might have to circle around for a bit before finding a spot.

I tried the Double Cheeseburger, Mushroom Burger, Truffle Parmesan fries, and Poutine. Everything was great. The patties on the burgers were cooked perfectly and were flavorful. Everything in the burgers added something and I never felt like they were doing too much. The fries were nice and I enjoyed them both but I think I liked the Truffle Parmesan more--I'm a sucker for all things truffle. The poutine was surprisingly good too though. I wish the gravy were a little thicker but it was hot enough that it caused the cheese curds to get nice and melty. I'll definitely be back to try some of their other offerings.

This may seem negligible, but if you want to eat your burger fresh off the grill having a comfortable place to do so in the store is a big plus. The burger itself with just cheese before adding addition toppings is moist and the angus beef juices give the bun just the right kick when you take a bite. Add on toppings like grilled onions, bomb sauce, lettuce pickles and you have a burger worth fighting over for the last bite. Ordering is very easy with the large menu broken into different sections including burgers, chicken sandwiches, fish sandwiches, wings hotdogs, sides, and willing staff who are able to answer questions about the menu choices.
