J&H has been around since 1939, however current building is fairly new with plenty of parking. Friendly staff at registers. Can be a line at times but it moves fairly quick. Ive been to most of the infamous NJ hot dog joints and J&H is one of myh favorites! Besides 2 types of hot dogs ( more on that later), they serve cheese-steaks ( beef or chicken), burgers, roast beef sandwiches ( hot & cold) and more. Plenty of sides other than french fries and onion rings ( which were both very good). Other perks: home-made rice pudding...cannolis...and $1 refills on fountain sodas! But it's all about he hot dog and they offer 2 types that are grilled perfectly to a nice crispy snap ( especially the wiener): Wieners: regular sized hot dogs made of pork & beef ( my favorite) and Big Dogs: very large ( almost twice the size & price of a Wiener) but all beef. They have signature dogs or create your own. I loved the chili ( and cheese) dogs. The chili tastes like Cincinnati style chili that I cook all the time. It has a special ingredient that just gives it a perfectly individual taste. AWESOME! (see if you can figure it out) I also like cole slaw ( which they offer) on a dog with a little hot sauce. The hot, salty dog with cool, creamy sweet slaw and little hot sauce to give it zing.....Nice! Prices were fair too. HIGHLY recommended. Can't wait to go back!

Came here for lunch on Nov. 5 while in town for a couple of days. Still outstanding! Outstanding hot dogs. Outstanding service. Outstanding (clean) atmosphere. I wish these kind folks would open an outpost in Houston! ;-)

Chili dogs, tater tots, and onion rings all done very nicely. Crisp and flavorful. With a drink the entire meal was $16, a fair price these days. If I was in the area and in the mood for something heavy I may stop in again.

This place is an absolute classic, and it gets 5 stars for having excellent choices outside of its traditional hot dog offerings, including burgers, fresh filled cannoli, and refills for only a buck! Counter service is friendly, and they accept credit cards, which is a huge plus. Plenty of seating and parking, another huge plus. I recommend either the chili dog with onion, or the hot dog with coleslaw and mustard. They key is that the coleslaw is really good and fresh.

I have been going to Johnny and hanges since they opened but I haven't been back in a while. A little odd that when we got there they had roped off half the eating area, although I couldn't tell why. I ordered a hot dog all the way with cheese and cheese fries all the way. Everything was OK, just not as good as I remember it but I can't pin point exactly what I felt was different.

An absolute classic of a spot. J&H loads up their hot dogs with a wide variety of toppings and combinations. We got spicy relish, all the way, and kraut/mustard. These taste great, the service is awesome, and it is affordable which is very tough to say about other places these days. Definitely worth checking out!!

Classic All-American food. Put in a big order right before watching the Nathan's Hot Dog contest and they had it ready in 5 minutes. Very friendly service and quality food!

A local hot dog and classic fast food American joint that serves up well made cheap eats. Ranging from goodies like fries, hotdogs, burgers, cheesesteaks, nothing will cost you more than around $6 and the place itself is super clean and ready for pickup. If you come on certain days, if you buy two chili dogs you are rewarded with a third at not additional cost. All the food was pretty good and satisfying but I wasn't particularly thrilled by the kind of cheese that they used on the dishes (white American)? It kind of congealed in a weird way and was really hoping for just some nacho cheese type softer cheese. They accept credit cards and this location has tons of parking. Another interesting point about this place is nothing is super oily, greasy or salty. I wasn't expecting the food to be almost, bland? but it wasn't super flavorful!

I made a deal with Wifey-I'd go shopping with her if we could stop for hot dogs in the way home. I decided on Johnny & Hanges since I'd been here before I'm and I knew a Wifey would like the dogs. The place was pretty busy when we got there, but we weren't in a hurry. I ordered a 1/4 pounder all the way w/chili, onions and mustard and a Regular dog w/chili and cheese. Wifey got a regular dog w/kraut and mustard and we shared an order of fries with gravy and cheese (Disco Fires if you're from Jersey). The dogs were fantastic. They use Thuman's I believe and they make for an outstanding, tasty dog. The chili they use/make here isn't my favorite, but it is quite tasty. I also prefer a cheese sauce over American cheese, but wherever they use here is pretty tasty. The Disco fries were some of the best we'd ever had...the gravy was really good. As I said, I'd been here before...and I'll be back here again. Delicious dogs, very friendly staff, eating area and bathrooms were very clean and the food was fairly priced. If you're in the area - stop in!

My family is from NJ and I have been coming back to visit since I was a child. With that said, I was a Libby's girl through and through. I didn't think anything could top it -- and then Libby's closed. I was in NJ in June and my mom and I needed our fix (she had been a loyal Johnny & Hanges girl since she was young) and this was a first for me! When I tell you I fell in love at first bite.... It's true. I had all the heart eyes for my hot dog. It was so good I had to come back the next day and do it all over again. We have NOTHING like this in AZ so it is such a treat for me when I visit. My mouth is watering just from reminiscing.

Still my favorite place in the tri-county area to get a texas weiner (aka "chili dog"). J&H has stood the test of time for a reason!

It's a deep fried dog. I get mine "all the way" which is with mustard, their chili topping and diced onions. I also got an order of fries with gravy. The hot dog is good quality and the sauce isn't bad. A little sweet for my taste. Why only 3 starts vs 5? I got this during my lunch break and ate this at my work. Zero utensils for the fries with gravy and zero napkins. Am I splitting hairs? Possibly, but trying to type while having fingers slopped with gravy is kind of a put off. Then add the messiness of the dog, which is a good thing, sauce tends to find its way on your face, table, etc. Solid food. You can eat in. A big variety of items and priced reasonably.

So instead of my traditional trip to a 100-year old place a few miles away, we came here. First, the place is clean and seating is plentiful. The counter service is efficient and the dude was polite. I really like that birch beer was a fountain option. (We don't get that in Texas.) Now to the food... This place uses Thumann's hot dogs, which are among the best in the free world. (Vienna Beef is better, but that's about it.) Not sure who supplies the buns, but they are average. They hold up well with toppings, which is very important, but they didn't otherwise add any qualities. I bought three dogs here, and they were all better than average. The slaw dog included cold, crispy cabbage that would make my Southern relatives proud. Other than the wonderful consistency, however, there was nothing really special about this. The mayo base was good, but had no flavor depth. As a hot dog topping, it worked. Even as a dish at a family reunion, it would likely work. Still, I've had tastier slaw dogs. The kraut dog was standard and delicious. Wonderful toppings. The chili cheese was outstanding, Nice spice and gooey American cheese, Way to go! Bottom line: These are decent hot dogs. Mine were fried almost crunchy, and the non-steamed bun did nothing to tone anything down or soften the hot dog. The fries, by the way, are served hot and crispy and made a wonderful accompaniment. If I lived here, this place would be a regular stop for hot dogs -- only if I didn't feel like driving an extra five minutes to Johnny & Hanges.

I already knew was about to be in for a treat! And the iconic hot dogs were out of this world! Each of their toppings are freshly made in-house. You can choose Sabrett or Thumann's and it's your call if you want them prepared in dirty water, grilled, or deep fried. Regardless of which ever dog you choose, you won't be disappointed! Aside from a cool old fashioned all-American glizzy, I also doubled my desire with a double smash burger. The freshly made sirloin patty melted right in my mouth! Between excellent food with really friendly service, I felt right at home. I could see how parking might be tough during a busy lunchtime, but we lucked out. I ordered a BLVD Ripper (foot long Windmill Dog) with chili, cheese and kraut and one of the Thumann's deep fried with kraut chili and mustard. Also shared some tots with my lunchmates. The shop itself is nice and set up for both sit-down and take out. Guy behind the counter, who I assumed was the owner, was super friendly and seemed pretty enthusiastic about his place. My take...I thought the dogs were done perfectly and the chili and kraut were delicious. I would have preferred a little more cheese on the ripper as the flavor got buried. The hot dog buns were just ok...they didn't hold up to contain the toppings, which was a little disappointing. Tots were great. My two lunchmates gave a mixed review...one loved his two dogs and the other liked the dogs, but was just so-so in the toppings and the buns. You can't please everyone I guess. Overall I had a great lunch, but it's pretty far out of our way to become a regular lunch spot for us. That said, if in the area, I would definitely stop in again!
