Double stuffed.. 2 dogs on a pretzel bun. OMG
Pete B.

Reason #478 why small towns have the best tucked away eats... Simple hot dog joint.. In an old train caboose!! Nothing fancy shmancy.. Sabrett water dogs. Excellent!!! I got the "double stuffed" on a pretzel roll with kraut and mustard. Great!!! Tasty, roll was perfect but then again I'm a sucker for pretzel rolls. Casing had a nice little snap to it. Then I got the chili. You can get mild or spicy, so I went with spicy. If you're a spicy kind of person, it's vary tame. Extremely flavorful and I liked the way the meat was done. Had a very good consistency that I can't find the right words for. When you try it, you'll see what I mean. Lastly, the woman there was great. Very hospitable and we had a nice little conversation while she was getting everything ready. When in town and you're hungry, don't pass this place up. Price is right and taste is even better.

Great spot for dogs! Lots of topping options! I went went with two basic dogs, one with hot onions, kraut and mustard, the other with mustard, baked beans and coleslaw. The guy at the counter was friendly, patient (as it was my first visit) and funny. Top quality, fresh ingredients make all the difference and this places aces it. As far as ambiance, it's a trailer made to look like a caboose adjacent to a train station. Pretty much what I expected. There are some picnic tables available.

One of my friends who live locally brought me here since I LOVE hot dogs. Hot dog was pretty mid, but I guess they are more known for putting a bunch of toppings on the dogs, and I just got a plain one. It's a cute concept of a hot dog train. Lots of picnic tables. All in all, it's a cute place and a nice spot for a quick bite.

Happened to be in the area and stumbled across hot dog caboose (thanks Yelp). In a cool little part of town it's a hot dog joint inside an old train car. Believe it was the owner who was inside, very friendly and great. Masked up, sanitizer on the counter and she used a sanitizing sheet on my credit card before handing it back so you know they are doing Covid right. Got 2 dogs all the way and fries - little odd, any other place in NJ I have been when you say all the way it's mustard, chili and raw onions. Here the onions were the red onions, actually not bad but not what I expected, would be more clear next time. Fries were great, love the Sabretts and fresh rolls. Tables outside so for the first time in 6 months I sat at a table and ate at a restaurant- gotta say was pretty great. Definitely added to my north NJ hot dog tour.

This place was absolutely amazing I would come here again definitely make this a pitstop for hotdogs. Please come here and enjoy the hot dog difference that is around here that has more taste than any place in the area, this is for creativity and extreme taste because you can get any good hotdogs down by us but this place Tops them all.

I've had this place bookmarked for a couple months, knowing we'd be in NJ during the first week of July. If I lived here, Hot Dog Caboose might well be an occasional stop for me. First, I dig the outside tables in the long shadow of the old caboose. Great place to sit under the umbrella and nosh on some dogs and birch beer. The lady working the counter was also extremely polite and friendly. Hot Dog Caboose uses Sabrett's in its dogs. In our case, the dogs weren't completely warmed through. Not cold, but not hot either. Wife had a relish dog. It was standard. I had the chili cheese (I guess liquid cheese is a thing in NJ) and a Reuben dog on a pretzel bun, which was absolutely clutch. In fact, it's probably the best pretzel bun I've ever put in my mouth. It might be a while before I get the chance to come back to this neck of the woods, but I'll keep Hot Dog Caboose bookmarked in the mean time. This quaint joint is worthy of future business.

What a gem this hotdog place is! The frito dog is a chili hotdog with just the right amount of and onions with a few Fritos on the top. It was absolutely amazing. The Italian dog was okay but not great. They have Boylans in many varieties including diet and let me tell ya I will keep coming. back for the combination of that Fritos dog and a Boylans any day. Do not pass up the his hotdog. It's one of the best I have had.

Great location. It's next to a train track and there's an old train right there on the side. They have a few outdoor tables which was perfect for today. We went for lunch. The line was somewhat long which is a bit unfortunate because it didn't need to be. They took your order then goes to make your food. Great for cook to order, not great for everyone waiting on line behind. The food was great, I had a taco dog which had crushed corn chips, chili, cheese and jalapeño. It was fantastic and the dog had a nice snap to it. My son loved the chicken bits and the hot dog candy was just the thing he wanted after the meal.

It's a deep fried dog. I get mine "all the way" which is with mustard, their chili topping and diced onions. I also got an order of fries with gravy. The hot dog is good quality and the sauce isn't bad. A little sweet for my taste. Why only 3 starts vs 5? I got this during my lunch break and ate this at my work. Zero utensils for the fries with gravy and zero napkins. Am I splitting hairs? Possibly, but trying to type while having fingers slopped with gravy is kind of a put off. Then add the messiness of the dog, which is a good thing, sauce tends to find its way on your face, table, etc. Solid food. You can eat in. A big variety of items and priced reasonably.

I've had family living here for years, and we have always avoided this place. But apparently,…read moresomeone died and someone else took over -- and things improved. So instead of my traditional trip to a 100-year old place a few miles away, we came here. First, the place is clean and seating is plentiful. The counter service is efficient and the dude was polite. I really like that birch beer was a fountain option. (We don't get that in Texas.) Now to the food... This place uses Thumann's hot dogs, which are among the best in the free world. (Vienna Beef is better, but that's about it.) Not sure who supplies the buns, but they are average. They hold up well with toppings, which is very important, but they didn't otherwise add any qualities. I bought three dogs here, and they were all better than average. The slaw dog included cold, crispy cabbage that would make my Southern relatives proud. Other than the wonderful consistency, however, there was nothing really special about this. The mayo base was good, but had no flavor depth. As a hot dog topping, it worked. Even as a dish at a family reunion, it would likely work. Still, I've had tastier slaw dogs. The kraut dog was standard and delicious. Wonderful toppings. The chili cheese was outstanding, Nice spice and gooey American cheese, Way to go! Bottom line: These are decent hot dogs. Mine were fried almost crunchy, and the non-steamed bun did nothing to tone anything down or soften the hot dog. The fries, by the way, are served hot and crispy and made a wonderful accompaniment. If I lived here, this place would be a regular stop for hot dogs -- only if I didn't feel like driving an extra five minutes to Johnny & Hanges.

I went back a few days after my first visit because they were THAT good. When I walked in, I was greeted by the owner, Wayne Mills. We had a lovely conversation about how he opened Lover Dogs and how Lover Dogs has been his dream retirement. On the walls, there are photos of his brother Gene who was a renowned wrestler in the 80s. Wayne gave me a tour of the outdoor patio and the downstairs area that he plans to expand for breakfast/brunch. The patio area overlooks a nice view of the Passaic River. After the little tour, I ate my all the way hot dog. Lover Dogs hot dogs are air-fried which I thought was very unique. The chilli sauce is out of this world. Super flavorful and perfectly seasoned. Wayne explained that he spent a long time perfecting the recipe and worked with several people to develop. The hot dogs are Hoffman brand which he discovered when he visited his brother many years ago at Syracuse University. It was really nice to see Wayne pay homage to the previous building owners with a framed collage on the wall. I am a local history nerd so I really loved seeing all of the old photos dating back to the early 1900s. Please visit this awesome local business!

Not sure if this has ever happened to you but you're commuting on your train, completely lost and…read moreobsessed with your Sudoku puzzle and you mistakenly get off at the wrong stop. Now you're in Little Falls (maybe the first time in your life?) and hungry (that happens multiple times a day). Lo and behold: just a hop, skip and a jump for the train station... a little rig that has a glow to it, luring you towards it. Inside is a young wizard - all smiles, impervious to the summer heat - that's whipping up some seriously delectable tube steaks that could give some of the old guards a run for their money. The chili was honest-to-goodness delicious. The onions were slamming. They were banging. They were (insert whatever the hip lingo kids are saying nowadays here). Added bonus: C&C Cola! (Good to see one Jersey biz supporting another.) I left Little Falls completely satisfied (although I still never finished my puzzle grid).

This place is conveniently located next to the Little Falls Train Station. It's great spot for a pre or post train ride bite to eat. Trains make me hungry. Any way, I had 3 dogs. One with ketchup because I'm a little kid, one with mustard and that hot dog onion sauce business, and one with mustard chili and cheese. HOLY MOLY!!!! The hot dogs are Sabrett so already you know it's top of the line. The onions had a beautiful flavor profile that was glorious to put in my mouth. It also had a little zip to it. All and all the onions and mustard combination was outstanding. The chili and cheese dog was also amazing. The chili tasted home made and fresh. You wouldn't mind eating a bowl of it on a cold winter's afternoon watching the Packers lose after you just shoveled out your car. It was so good I'm thinking about just getting my paycheck direct deposited to Hot Dog Jay's. And the cheese sauce...you could put that on anything and make it fantastic. Now, when you go to a hotdog truck you have to get a nice cold can of pop. Jay carries the best #1 brand of hotdog truck pop, C&C. I haven't had a C&C in an age and it was magical. Washing down the dogs with that glorious soda was the perfect topper to the best lunch I've had in forever. And if a couple of good dogs isn't enough, Jay goes above and beyond. As he began to wrap my dogs, I told him not to go over board because I was going to slam them in my face right there. He told me he wraps them because it gives the buns a quick steam. I never thought of it, but holy crap did it make a world of difference. All and all this stop for a couple dogs was fair above what I was expected. Sure just about all hotdog truck dogs are good, but these...these were next level. And I don't want to disappoint you, fair reader, if it doesn't look like anything special. They don't. They're hotdog truck hotdogs. But when you eat them and notice the subtle things, it really pushes it over the edge. I give these a 10/10 for a hotdog truck and will definitely be back next time the crave hits.
