Their "GF charge" per dish disclaimer...
    Katherine

This is quite literally the only non-Michelin restaurant, let alone sushi restaurant, I have EVER been to that charges you extra per dish BECAUSE YOU HAVE A GLUTEN ALLERGY. Mind you, half of what I ordered omitting sauces and toppings, yet they CHARGED ME $3-4 PER DISH THEY "ALTERED." I couldn't believe the lack of price transparency either. The waiter gave me no heads up and when it came to the bill and I saw I was charged nearly $20 extra simply for taking my rolls raw I was astonished. When I asked him about it and asked him why he didn't say anything, he pointed to a pt 5 font disclaimer line at the bottom of the menu that I had to wince at to actually read... and because of that little line, they get away with it. Not to mention the back of the house where I was sat down stinks of cleaning products and has both times I've been here (first time I wasn't ordering rolls, so didn't need anything GF). I will never come back here strictly because of the lack of price transparency. And just for a quick example, their crispy rice tuna appetizer comes only on 2 pieces, usually for $8.50. They up charged me 30% (yes another $3)... meanwhile my family who isn't GF was ordering all of their rolls this way too so that we could share not knowing that was gonna be added to the bill. A 30% up charge? DO BETTER.

Lovely ending to a fun day! Parking sucked, but the food was incredible. The staff ensured we were seated immediately and checked on regularly. the food came out quickly and plates were cleared moments after finishing :) highly recommend if you're in the area! We stopped by for dinner after visiting LACMA. It was a small restaurant but it had a very chic vibe .

Shocked and amazed at how good this sushi was. I was staying nearby on a recent trip but didn't have a car. I was craving sushi, this was about an 11 minute walk from my hotel. When I arrived I was honestly a little worried - I was the only person in the place despite it being lunch time. But given that this was my only option in walking distance, I was committed. The spot itself is no-frills and laid back, but the sushi prices are definitely on the higher end, which I would be mad about if the sushi wasn't so good. I went with the Hon Maguro, plus a toro hand roll and miso soup. The miso soup was good, but the tuna on this flight and hand roll were the real stars. So fresh, so delicious, a really nice mix of raw and torched sushi on this platter. I would come back again if I were ever in the area.

They have such good sushi rolls here, my favorites were the Mr. Crab, it has fried shrimp tempura, talked with fresh crab and lobster, and the sauce that drizzled is kind of a toasted sweet sauce. I also really liked the pressed toro roll, the truffle flavor is super prevalent, and it is so fresh. We also tried the 911 roll and the crispy albacore, both were really great as well! Service is really quick and friendly, there is also a small parking lot in the back as well, which is a plus for that area!

Favorite sushi in LA. I've been here several times in the afternoon and each time I've had such a great experience. It's become a Sunday tradition. Usually get the pressed tuna or salmon sushi and a couple other rolls

Perhaps it was just an off night at Seabutter, but the place was empty the night before we dined there, and the quality of the sushi wasn't what we expected given the good reviews. In addition, the service was slow and server seemed not to care about her job. The sushi just didn't have much flavor, some dishes were overwhelmed by mayo and sauces, and the tempura was heavy and oily. Given the number of great sushi spots in the area, I would likely choose somewhere else next time I go out for sushi.

Our server was so attentive and friendly - so sad we didn't catch his name! We got the miso soup, which was one of the best miso soups I've ever had. We also got the scallop and spicy tuna crispy rice appetizers, and a negi-toro hand roll. The hand roll had a strong sesame oil flavor. For rolls, we got the crispy albacore, salmon supreme, and rainbow roll. The crispy albacore was the best roll in my opinion, and the fried onions were so yummy. My bf liked the rainbow roll the best - the crab flavor really comes out since they use real crab. Overall it was a great experience and we'll be back!

Had lunch with my mom and two sons on Saturday after a shopping trip nearby. It's a small place compared to other locations. We were seated right away since it wasn't busy. Welcoming and friendly staff. Our waitress was helpful and attentive. We ordered edamame and seaweed salad and liked both. The rolls were delicious as well. I liked how they didn't have too much rice in them, you could actually taste the fish. 911 roll was our most favorite but the rest were pretty good as well. We really enjoyed our lunch here. Clean and nice location. Great customer service. Great food.

We love Seabutter and recommend this delicious sushi bar to all of our friends and family including my Yelpers! They treat their customers like family and everyone is so warm and welcoming! We love the kimedai especially lightly seared. I also love the salmon truffle sushi and the yellowtail sushi. It's excellent from the service to the sushi

The food quality here is amazing with extremely fresh fish. The service was also good, they appear very busy around dinner time. Personally I enjoyed the salmon truffle the most it literally melts in your mouth. This was my first time having pressed sushi I find the concept very fun. I do think rolls are better

This is a delicious hidden gem off Doheny and Olympic, super easy to miss if you're not looking for it! The place is never crowded, so we thought we'd give it a go one Saturday evening. Seabutter did not disappoint! I ordered a Miso Soup, House Spring Salad, and an assortment of hand rolls. My favorite was the baked scallop which was wrapped in a rice paper, the texture is tender and rich in creaminess. I also ordered the yellowtail scallion and blue crab hand rolls, which were really tasty too! Lastly, I ordered the Rainbow Roll for all of the sashimi and the Teriyaki Chicken for a bento box feel. So good! The chicken was flavorful and with tons of veggies and rice. Great for family-style sharing!

We ordered takeout from seabutter & it exceeded expectations. We ordered a bunch of rolls & appetizers, but the spicy tuna crispy rice & hamachi jalapeño were my favorites, the hamachi was so fresh & flavorful. Everything was packaged so neatly & the crew even sent a super cute note along with our order!

    Parking in back?

Yes, there's parking in the back. There's also street parking.

What time does lunch hour start/end?

Hello there! For the time being we are only open for dinner.

What is the happy hour special?

    Very Good!

Do they have happy hour specials?

    Yes they do! Mon-Fri 3pm-6pm

Is the sushi/ sashimi 2 pieces per or one?

    2 pieces per order

Can they replace or sub another piece of sushi in the lunch item Seabutter sushi (8 pc sushi and 1 choice of hand roll) if one of the pieces is something I am allergic to? For example, I have a shellfish allergy and cannot eat scallops?

I am certain that they would substitute for you. They are so kind and accommodating that I would venture that the answer is yes!

Is the lunch special everyday, or just M-F?

Well, they're not open for lunch on sundays.

Is there omakase? If so how much?

It's basically an off-menu ask called the "Chef's Choice": 12 pieces, $65 (for tonight anyway).

What are the soft opening hours?

Opens at 11am. Soft opening ends today. Grand opening is tomorrow at 11am

I am not one of those people but I do understand the sentiment. When a restaurant becomes an institution there is always the risk that it coasts. So I will say this clearly. It is not coasting. We came on a Friday night, reservation made weeks in advance because my assistant knows better than to leave it last minute. The room has this energy that I find difficult to describe to someone who has not been. It is lively without being loud. There is money in that room but it does not announce itself and I find that refreshing. I spend enough time around people who need to be seen. We ordered omakase style and let the kitchen guide us and this is absolutely the correct way to experience Matsuhisa. The black cod with miso is legendary for a reason and I do not typically enjoy when a dish lives so heavily in its own reputation. This one earns it every single time. The yellowtail with jalapeño is another dish that sounds simple until you taste how balanced it actually is. There is real technique beneath what looks effortless and I respect that enormously. My husband had the sake pairing and was very pleased. I stayed with a Burgundy I brought because I called ahead and the corkage situation was handled gracefully and without attitude. That matters to me more than people might expect. Where I have mixed feelings is the service. Our server was warm and knowledgeable but the pacing between a few of the courses was uneven in a way I noticed. It did not ruin the evening but at this price point and this level of reputation it is the kind of thing that should not happen. Nobu Matsuhisa built something real here and it shows. This is not a restaurant riding on nostalgia. It is a restaurant that still has something to prove and mostly succeeds.

I was expecting more balanced and fresh flavors. On the positive side, there were a few dishes I did enjoy. The mushroom salad was very good, and the cucumber salad was fresh and enjoyable as well. Those were the highlights of the meal for me personally. The atmosphere in the restaurant was pleasant, the place itself looked nice, and the staff were friendly and attentive throughout the evening. Still, overall, the food did not really suit my taste, so for me it was an average experience rather than one of the better restaurants I've been to

NOTE: Dined in on 10/27/24…read more Definitely want to write a couple of reviews before the end of the year to shine some light on restaurants that really need some more love here on Yelp. Rockpool sounds a little generic for a sushi spot, but the quality of the fish is quite delicious for the value. In particular, the lunch omakase is probably amongst the best sushi deals I've had for a sitdown spot. I'd definitely take it into consideration over let's say... Sugarfish. People often talk about how "fresh" fish tastes at sushi restaurants, but I feel like the best raw fish is often aged to an extent. The taste of the fish here is good, but I don't feel that they always use the best cuts. For example, the otoro was tasty, but it was not as marbled as I'm used to seeing. That said, another critically important and often overlooked component of sushi, particularly in handrolls and nigiri, is the rice. The rice here is delicately warm, pairs well with the fish, and has a pleasant, slightly sweet and vinegary taste. Simply delightful. The miso soup was also quite delicious, with a hearty, deep, set of flavors in the soup stock, and the scallop hand roll here was so good, I forgot to take a photo before devouring it haha. The lunch special should be enough food for most folks, but you're always welcome to add additional items to it! Now, is it good enough for me to try the more expensive dinner courses? Debatable, but it might be... just barely! The value proposition is hard to ignore, though. It's certainly one of the best deals you'll find on the Westside.
