Here's the run down-- This is definitely a neighborhood sushi spot. My boyfriend and I made last minute dinner plans and decided on this spot. We didn't have a reservation and the place looked moderately crowded at 7 pm and we were seated at a high top. We ordered a couple of sushi rolls and they were good the sushi was fresh and tasty but nothing insane. I don't know if we should ordered more but it is on the pricier side. We ordered a variety of sushi for the three of us, that came out to be $100. We placed the order for pick up, as the prices were slightly cheaper on each item then versus delivery. We thoroughly enjoyed everything that we ordered, one of the rolls that came with cilantro was my favorite. we ordered a tempura as well, there was very one large piece of broccoli that was mildly offputting but the rest was great. Came here for Dine LA week but didn't end up doing the Dine LA menu (our bad for misreading the price on opentable) however, since we were already here we decided to make the best of it because we've heard the best things about it! It fully held up to the hype. We started with the Lux Nigiri medley, but swapped out the scallop for a second truffle salmon. It included the Emma, truffle salmon, and hye. Honestly I can't even pick a favorite they were all so good. Next I got the salmon supreme roll and my friend got the 911 roll. The salmon roll was good but got kind of old pretty fast, however the 911 roll was exceptional! I cannot recommend it enough, so light and refreshing and the perfect amount of spicy. My husband and I live in the area and we've frequented Seabutter for over 3 years. In fact, I kind of feel bad I'm only now putting a review. At some points, we dine here almost once a week. Well, better late than never! We have always had a great experience! That is why we have Seabutter in our rotation with our other fave spots such as Takami, Katana and Catch, just to give an idea of our taste buds. I love their mushroom miso soup, salmon truffle the most and I love that they have guilt free options, such as the Marilyn Monroll. It's a chill vibe with good sushi and great service. It's a great place for a first date because though they play a little music, it's isn't overpowering and you can actually talk why you look at each other! The hostess was very nice and seated us at the sushi bar We ordered some Sapporo beers and two Chef Choice We noticed while we were talking and drinking everyone around us they came after us got their food and we did not We alerted the hostess and the manger and they told us the Chef Choice takes 30 minutes to prepare. This was almost 40 minutes However the manger gave us the beers gratis and gave us 50 percent off the meal. We've been here a couple of times. Some times have been better than others. Our most recent trip was solid, but nothing to write home about. The ambiance here is relatively quiet. It's a restaurant in Beverly Hills, but has a very casual vibe, and isn't too dressy. The drinks here are okay. I typcally stick with beer when I have sushi. I do appreciate that they have draft Sapporo as opposed to just the bottled option. The sushi is good. Fresh, but it can be slightly overpriced. The portion sizes are average. Their rolls are pretty good as well, but perhaps not as much variety as you might find elsewhere. Overall, I'd probably come back at some point, but given how many sushi spots are in Los Angeles, I'd try some others first. read more

This place is incredible. It's a nice little spot in a very unassuming location with a great charm. They also play really good music. That said, the food is absolutely incredible. Seriously. The toro melts in your mouth as does the salmon and pretty much everything else. Above all, what makes the experience is Yukino. She is the sweetest server I have ever met. Every time my girlfriend and I go, she lights up and asks how we're doing. DineLA 10/2021, $99 - Not worth it! Came here after reading the reviews from last years dineLA. The menu was almost identical as last year which was $39 last year, but this year had steeply increased to $99. Comparing the menus, I saw that they had increased the prices. I chalked it up to the fact that they had added the pressed sushi and 4 more pieces from the nigiri course. Now I am more than happy to pay money if I feel the experience and quality is worth it. When you are comparing hundreds of dineLA menus, I feel that the magic of dineLA is that it is an experience for everyone to enjoy fine dining at a justifiable cost. However, compared to the other $99 dineLA menus, seabutter failed to live up to that experience and quality for me personally. The starter was very simple edamame with salt, nothing special. My favorite nigiri was the tuna and yellowtail. Many of the nigiris and pressed sushi was overwhelmed from the addition of truffle. This is coming from someone who LOVES truffle, but having so many pieces of truffle, it fatigued our palate and overwhelmed the flavor of the fish. In my opinion, the pressed sushi had too much rice to fish ratio. The black sesame ice cream was good, but nothing special as well. Overall, the fish was very fresh but the flavors were nothing special and were very similar. Next time, I'll probably be going to sugar fish for dineLA or Enya if I feel like splurging. read more

I needed a great spot to take my girlfriend for her 21st birthday and her being a sushi lover I knew I needed to take her special. I saw a bunch of great reviews for Seabutter and I decided to go for it and brought her. Our expectations were blown away! There were too many good things on the menu so our waiter informed us about the Chef's Special and we just went for it. The food took a while to come out so we decided to snack on some edamame. But when the food finally came out... All I can say is wow! What I really enjoyed was that the different pieces of sushi on each had unique flavors and they were all just so delicious. The flavor profiles felt a bit more different than other sushi places that I have been at but I enjoyed the unique experience! At the end of our meal, they even brought green tea ice cream for my girlfriend to celebrate. The service was excellent. The waiters were attentive and helpful during the ordering process. They went up to me while my girlfriend was in the restroom to ask me what flavor she would like to ensure it would be a surprise when it came out. Side note that green tea ice cream was pretty good. There are street parking and parking in the back. The lot gets kinda bush and it can be hard to find. The best way to describe it is if you are heading south on Doheny Dr. it is the small opening just right before the light on the cross section of Doheny and Olympic. The cost was well worth it. We don't mind sitting at the bar when we're two people but we're we choose standard seating not bar on open table. They said it would just be a few minutes. They kept repeating this. We find ourselves standing there after nicely and patiently waiting for 30 mins we started getting a bit upset. I let the hostess know that it's not okay. She stated "one more min" and a few minutes later they sat us. When the server arrived. I let her know that I just wanted her to be aware of the situation. That it's the second time we've reserved a table and had to wait 30 mins. What set me off was her response. Now mind you, I let her know because every other time I've been there I've seen her each time. Everyone else seemed newer. She responded in not a very polite manner that we "could have sat at the bar". After spending an average of $500 each time I've been there I was really disappointed in her response. No one took accountability. All I wanted was a simple, and we are sorry, I will make sure to get you guys taken care of. Instead we were completely dismissed. The attitude constituted until I asked for a manager. That's when she said I can give you the owners number. She goes comes back and says sorry she is not available but what can I do for you. We decided not to continue ordering. This place is overpriced. Their sushi is not that fresh and we always leave hungry even spending a ton of money. I came with a friend last night around 6pm. We made reservations during the day just in case. The parking situation isn't ideal. It was hard to find street parking that wasn't for residents in the neighborhood. We ended up parking in the plaza parking that is attached to Seabutter. The hostess said she thinks it'd be okay. Upon entering, it is a very clean restaurant, dimly lit. For seating, you can sit at the sushi bar, small 2-seater tables lining the right side, or larger tables deeper into the restaurant. They also had outdoor seating with heat lamps (no one was out there yet). We both ordered an omakase select, which includes 7 pieces of the chefs top nigiri selection ($40). A few of the things I remember are halibut, tuna, albacore, salmon -- can't remember the rest haha. - I was disappointed that the rice wasn't warm but I think it may be because the restaurant itself was freezing because they leave the door open. It may have just been me because my friend said she couldn't tell but I was uncomfortably cold the whole time. - the fish tasted very fresh. They didn't have the super fishy taste or smell. - the salmon was ... DELICIOUS!! Probably the best piece of salmon we ever had. It was THICK and juicy- an explosion in your mouth. Had a little bit of truffle too. 911 roll ($17) Spicy tuna with cucumber topped with avocado, jalapeño and yuzu sauce. - if you are not a fan of yuzu, do not get this because the yuzu is veryyyy strong. - it was not spicy. The jalapeño just adds a little bit of that savory-ness. - I felt like this roll lacked something. Nothing really wowed me. Slightly bland. salmon avo pressed sushi ($19.50) Salmon seared inside and salmon seared on top with artichoke truffle and lemon olive oil. - we honestly got this after our omakase in hopes that the salmon is similar to the nigiri salmon. Haha, we were wrong. It wasn't as thick and juicy but still good! - truffle elevates any dish - the pressed sushi makes it look very aesthetically pleasing and makes for a great photo The next time we come, we both said we would just get that salmon nigiri. It was just so delicious. The service is A++ Very attentive and checked on us frequently. For a place thats swinging for the fences by offering items such as toro with uni, a5 wagyu nigiri and minced seared toro they should understand the importance of fresh rice. Wrong! The only realistic excuse for rice reminiscent of left over teriyaki rice after it's been in the fridge for a day or two, warmed in a microwave and then re served many hours later, is that it actually is leftovers. The sushi chef must know how bad the rice is and I'm guessing management won't let him use fresh rice daily. It's a shame because the toro was pretty good. The a5 on the other hand was way over cooked completely rendering all the fat out. Overall the nigiri was "not too bad" if you can get past the old rice. MY ADVICE... just go to sugar fish! read more

It was the photo that got me to click on it and it was also time for a long overdue dinner with an old friend who just happened to love sushi so I suggested this spot to try together. While there was no room for dessert, I did ask about what they had that night... mochi ice cream in strawberry, chocolate, green tea and mango or black sesame, green tea and lychee ice cream, yum. Such an amazing find for delicious sushi in an unassuming plaza in Beverly Hills. Seabutter's menu offers all the typical sushi offerings plus some unique ones, like their pressed sushi (their interpretation of sushi rolls in a square-like "pressed" format) and their medleys (nigiri combos). We ordered a lux medley each plus the rainbow pressed sushi and spicy tuna cut roll. Rainbow pressed sushi has blue crab and avocado in the middle and is topped with salmon, yellowtail, avocado, and albacore. It's not too different from sushi rolls, other than that the nori/seaweed is omitted in this version and each piece seems bigger than a typical cut roll piece. This was delicious, loved that there was a lot of fish/avocado and everything tasted super fresh. Spicy tuna is a pretty basic thing to order, but not always done well. Seabutter's iteration is fresh, spicier than normal, and was perfectly delicious and satisfying. Lux medley consists of 1 piece each (all in nigiri style) of the following: hye (minced yellowtail belly), emma (seared toro), salmon truffle, and uni-scallop. Each piece is incredibly unique and beautiful in presentation and amazing in taste. It melts in your mouth and the amalgamation of unique flavors and textures is on point. read more

Absolutely amazing sushi! Came across this new restaurant on Yelp and I had to try it for myself. For the Beverly Hills location, Sea Butter is quite affordable. With the 20% off soft opening promotion, we paid about $50 (including tip) for two. Granted, my boyfriend is not a huge fan of sushi so most of the food was for me! I got the Lux (minced toro, minced yellowtail, salmon, and scallop/uni), as well as an order of toro and another order of kanpachi. My boyfriend got just ordered the 911 roll. I fell in love with every single bite of sushi and am already eager to go back. Our chef was nice enough to give us an order of black cod sushi on the house and the fish truly melted in our mouths. I've heard about and seen this place all over social media so I was super excited to get a reservation on a Friday night. When we got there, they were able to fulfill my request to sit at the sushi bar. However, we didn't get service until being seated for almost 15 minutes. I had to make an obnoxious gesture by waving the menu at the poor sushi chef (who looked overworked) behind the sushi bar. He came to take our order and even he had to flag down a waiter. The owner (I think?) came to check on us once, but service was really lacking. Never even got refills on water or my green tea. There were 3 guys seated next to us and they had to send food back because they found hair in it. I thought the food was great. Tried the spicy scallop hand roll, yellowtail belly sushi, sunset roll, and salmon avo. Everything was excellent. This place definitely makes up for what it lacks in service in trendy food and flavor.
