The atmosphere was very pleasant and upscale, making it a great place for a night out with friends. My wife and I went there last night with several other couples, and overall we had a good experience. The staff was friendly, professional, and welcoming throughout the evening. There were some delays in getting a few of the dishes to the table, but the service itself was still good and the servers did their best to take care of us. The food was fresh, high quality, and definitely enjoyable. However, I'm someone who loves fine dining and high-end restaurants, so I tend to be very picky when it comes to reviews. While everything we ordered tasted very good, there wasn't a single dish that really stood out as unique or unforgettable. Nothing made me stop and think, "Wow, I've never had anything like this before." The food was delicious, but not necessarily memorable. The pricing is on the expensive side, but that's also what you would expect for a restaurant of this caliber and location, so I don't consider that a negative. Overall, we had a nice evening, enjoyed the food, and appreciated the service. I would absolutely consider coming back in the future to try more items from the menu. Maybe there are some signature dishes that we missed this time around. If a future visit impresses me a little more, I could definitely see this becoming a 5-star review. For now, it's a solid 4 stars from me. read more

Matsuhisa was nice overall, but unfortunately nothing particularly memorable for me. The quality of the fish was good, and everything was well prepared. For the price point, I was expecting a lot more. The omakase honestly felt closer to what I would expect from a ~$75 experience. Nothing was bad, but there also wasn't a particular dish that surprised me or that I left thinking about afterward. The plating and presentation were ok but for a place in beverly hills with a high rating I think I just expected more. The atmosphere is also much more casual than upscale, which I don't necessarily mind, but paired with the price of the meal, the overall experience didn't feel quite as special as I expected. Service was good and we had a pleasant dinner, but with so many great Japanese and omakase options in LA, I think there are other options. read more

Food - A+ Location - A+ Ambience - A+ Service - C This is a very popular and also very expensive restaurant but honestly the food is at the next level. We had a bad experience because when the restaurant got busy, our server did not put our last order through and we waited for 26 minutes and we ended up skipping the last part of our meal, not by choice, but due to his incompetence. So we did not have a good experience at all. read more

We came as a group of 8 people, and I think it's important to mention that opinions around the table were mixed some of the group actually enjoyed the food and liked several of the dishes, so it may simply come down to personal taste. For me, the experience was less successful mainly because of the fish dishes. The flavors felt too strong, and some of the dishes gave me the feeling that the fish was not handled or seasoned properly, which affected my enjoyment of the meal. I was expecting more balanced and fresh flavors. On the positive side, there were a few dishes I did enjoy. The mushroom salad was very good, and the cucumber salad was fresh and enjoyable as well. Those were the highlights of the meal for me personally. The atmosphere in the restaurant was pleasant, the place itself looked nice, and the staff were friendly and attentive throughout the evening. Still, overall, the food did not really suit my taste, so for me it was an average experience rather than one of the better restaurants I've been to read more

Fantastic (4.3/5)! This chef Nobu's restaurant really live up to the standard. Everything is delicious and fresh, recommend all the sashimi and raw plates in here. We made reservation for a weekday dinner and got seated quick. FOOD Crispy Rice with Spicy Tuna (8.3/10): *9 with the Serrano pepper A must have for appetiser whenever I go to a sushi restaurant. Love the presentation, it's easy to eat. Fresh tuna, great rice to tuna ratio. Wish there's mini jalapeño or Serrano pepper on top for more depth. For the cold dish specials, we ordered Yellowtail Jalapeño and Toro Yuzu Miso to share: Toro Yuzu Miso (9/10): Ponzu sauce in here is so nice! Love the citrusy touch to balance out the fatty toro. Love the mini sprouts garnish that balances out everything in here. Yellowtail Jalapeño (9.2/10): Very well balanced, along with the cilantro garnish everything compliments each other so nice! Love the Serrano pepper (I transferred one onto the crispy tuna rice and that's delicious!). Fish is super fresh, melts into your mouth ^Both cold dishes are excellent but I prefer this slightly more. Nigiri (8-8.5/10): All nigiri's are pretty good, we ordered a bunch of it. Our favourite one is definitely the Akamutsu, it has the toro texture and it's not usually seen everywhere. Scallops, Blu fin toro, salmon are top tier. Ikura was good but not amazing. Lobster ceviche taco (9.5/10): MY FAVOURITE OF ALL! The lobster is so fresh, the seasoning is refreshing and citrusy. With the hard shell taco, everything just puts together so nice that we had to encore this! (I believe the lobster ceviche is off-menu, our server recommended us to substitute with lobster, good call!) DRINKS For drinks. They have an extensive sake collection, we had the Nobu sake which is pretty smooth and nice. Service is great, our server knows the menu well and gave the right recommendations. Food comes in on time and in great orders. SERVICE & AMBIENCE Love the warmth hospitality, also love the Nothing special about the interior decor, Japanese light wood ambience. It's a very cozy place to have dinner with, ambience is clean and not with loud music. Nothing instagramable, I think this is more of a food-focus place, rather than a special occasion spot. For the way how they market themselves I feel like the service or the plates could go an extra mile to make it a better experience. I've never been to Nobu, but this restaurant lives up to the standard. Recommend, might not be everyone's #1 sushi place but you won't go wrong with this place. I'm not sure if this is a place for omakase or rolls/ handroll, but their raw fish and nigiris are nice. read more

Last time I recall a lot of vegetarian stuff and well as liking their dried miso thing. Mom like scallops sushi - didn't like the lobster appetizer. Liked the scallops. Dad liked that lobster more than the caviar gf loved everything - salmon, halibut, Spanish mackerel, scallops, and uni. I had the artichoke appetizer. It doesn't say that it comes also with red peppers and scallions - so I got a version without. I liked the sushi I made - cucumber asparagus plum sauce . Didn't like the cucumber appetizer. Didn't hate it either. We alllll lovvveeedd the deserts. Rice pudding and cappuccino desert thing. read more

My wife and I had the pleasure of dining here tonight with two great friends, and it was an experience worth sharing. We started with the yellowtail jalapeño, which was absolutely amazing bright, fresh, and perfectly balanced. The toro with caviar was so decadent I could have easily ordered two more. The spicy tuna on crispy rice was fine, but didn't quite hit the same high notes as the other dishes. From there, we enjoyed a wide selection of sashimi, including octopus and a few other fish whose names escape me, but each bite was fresh and beautifully presented. The salmon and snow crab roll was another highlight, delicate yet flavorful. We paired everything with a few bottles of sake, including the house brand in the blue bottle. Personally, it reminded me of Vicks 44 from childhood (not my favorite), but the rest of the table loved it, so clearly it's a crowd-pleaser. Dessert was a perfect finale: the bento box with warm chocolate cake and green tea ice cream, plus the banana bread pudding, both indulgent and satisfying. Service was impeccable throughout. Our server moved swiftly and seamlessly, making the three-hour dinner feel like it flew by in ten minutes. Fantastic food, impeccable service, and the joy of sharing it all with great friends made this night truly special. read more

Matsuhisa has the pedigree, it's Nobu's original spot, the birthplace of the black cod miso and yellowtail jalapeño. Walking in, I expected fireworks. What I got was... solid, but not mind-blowing. The cold dish sashimi was WORTH IT. Don't get me wrong: everything was good. The fish is undeniably fresh, the black cod still melts like butter, and the jalapeño yellowtail hits that perfect citrusy-spicy balance. But with the Nobu name, I was anticipating something that felt next-level. Instead, it felt like a polished greatest-hits album -- all the classics, none of the surprises. Service is professional and attentive, the room has a cozy, understated charm, and the overall experience is refined. But compared to the hype around "Nobu," I left feeling like I'd checked a box rather than had my sushi world rocked. Still worth visiting for the history and quality -- just manage expectations. If you've been to Nobu Malibu or one of the flashier locations, this will feel like the quieter, simpler cousin. Pro tip: go in hungry, order the omakase, and lean into the nostalgia. It's less about innovation now, more about tasting where it all began. read more

This restaurant has so much hype so I was excited to try it. When we arrived on a Saturday evening around 745pm, there was a long line and big crowd just to check in with the host. We waited for over an hour for a table and once we were finally seated a little after 9pm it felt like we were being rushed because of how late it was. Overall, it was not the best experience. Now that their large dining room is open and they can accommodate more people, I think management needs to do a better job at coordinating reservation times to control the large crowds in the waiting area. The food is pretty good and the menu is extensive, but I wasn't super impressed by anything. read more

We got food illness from eating here on Friday, 5/1/26. My friend and I had ordered the Omakase and later that evening became ill, lasting until Sunday. Called the restaurant 4 times and spoke to manager once (after leaving 3 messages with the front desk). Manager said he'd speak with the Chefs while stating that without a Doctor's note there's not much they would do. manager never called me back. Be aware if you dine here and get sick, they will Not take responsibility and will not prioritize returning calls to ensure customer satisfaction. Our food illness lasted 3 days and although we did not visit doctor, our meal that Friday night ended up in the toilet. Our request to the restaurant was to have the meal reimbursed (minus the service charge as the service was excellent, and our one drink each was fine). Again be aware before dinning here. read more

Phenomenal sushi restaurant serving classic and creative sushi dishes, excellent service, all in an unpretentious environment. Below were some of my favorite items of the night: Caviar Taco - 5+ stars. Absolutely delicious, perfect way to start the meal. Sashimi Tacos w King Crab - 5 Stars. Unique and works perfectly with the won ton like shell. Crispy Rice w Spicy Tuna - 5+ Stars. Love the deconstructed element of this dish here and the flavors were phenomenal! New Style Sashimi (Salmon) - 5+ stars. Blistered salmon that tasted like butter, seasoned perfectly! Assorted Ngiri - 5+ stars. Exceptional fish quality, favorites were the fresh scallop and albacore. Trio Creme Brûlée - 3 1/2 stars. This is probably a personal preference, but didn't love this. The Vanilla truffle was odd, the red bean had an odd aftertaste to it, the black sesame was my favorite of the trio. We dined at the sushi bar and the whole experience was great and completely laid back. I didn't realize that we spent over 3 hours here ordering more drinks and food since no one rushed us out. I'm definitely coming back to try more of this amazing menu!! read more

This review is based on the Omakase experience - 5 people dined for $1,700. The waiters were clueless as to what dishes were being served. Dennis the Waiter is a disaster. It was 2 steps above buffet sushi. One dish was reminiscent of a chili's fajitas. I was waiting for a tortilla. Never came! A5 wagu was ordered as an expensive add on & was presented under a bed of radish & shoe string onions. Hidden & Mediocre at best! Clearly the name has been licensed out to a mass produced restaurant chain without concern for any quality control. Think twice before making a reservation at this establishment. We will never dine here again. read more

The men who is answering the phone is beyond rude & unprofessional. He should not be in a service industry if he doesn't know how to treat customers! I called several times to make a reservation, its either they will put you on hold for long then will ask to call again tomorrow. Or they will get your name and info and you're expecting you have it all set but when you got there, theres no reservation under your name! A disgrace to Nobu. They should train their staff how to be hospitable! read more

Service is pretty good. Ambiance is not as awe-inspiring as Malibu, but that's okay. The greatest hits are, for the most part, all here, and they're not as expensive as they are in Malibu (though definitely still not cheap). However, I definitely miss the view of the ocean. If you had to go to a Nobu in L.A. only once in your life, I would probably go to Malibu just because there is something magical about being on the water. However, if you live in L.A. and want Nobu's food more frequently, go to Matsuhisa after you've done the Malibu thing. I think the cod alone is already worth the full monty of stars. The steak is pretty good too, as is the tempura corn, and, of course, the dessert. I'm glad that Matsuhisa exists because I don't have to take the trek all the way down past Santa Monica to get my miso black cod fix. read more

If you can afford to eat here, you need to come enjoy the excellent sushi and cooked dishes here. An unassuming restaurant considering it's Beverly Hills, with fast (though brusque) service and a very diverse menu. The elevated Japanese food you would get at Nobu (same owner) but in a much less pretentious space. Every bite was super high quality from the perfectly crisped crispy rice and spicy tuna (best version of this dish I've ever had), the baked crab hand roll (ugly presentation but very tasty), nicely grilled A5 wagyu (get it with NO SAUCE, the miso did not work and I am so glad I asked for it on the side even if the server was skeptical, lol), yummy black miso cod, buttery uni donburi ($$$$$), and rock shrimp tempura that was a big hit. I would recommend skipping the tempura as it is no better than your neighborhood Japanese spot and there are more fun things to try on the menu. The oysters are also a skip. read more

My husband and I celebrated our anniversary here, as we are sushi lovers and follow the founder's story of building from the ground up. Our experience upon checking in was very casual and with no communication from the 2 ladies and 1 male standing there. We stated our name, they looked down and walked away which we assumed meant they were confirming our table was ready. That said, we waited another 5-6 minutes without any communication until we got a wave to follow them. The fish was fresh and flavor profiles were spot on with our dishes - tiradito, white fish dry miso, several hand rolls, buckwheat soba noodles, crispy okra to name a few. Service was not terrible but it also was not amazing. When I asked about two dishes to order, his first comment to me was "they take a really long time to make". That immediately threw me off, as I would have expected to hear about whether a customer favorite or suggestion of something else that may be more highly recommended. We ordered the items and they may have taken 15 minutes at most, which was ok given we were enjoying our dinner. I'd come back but it was definitely not the experience hoped for given price point. Very crowded seating as well. read more

I booked this place for my partner's 40th birthday. You know, a big milestone. I made the reservation in advance, told them it was a birthday, even confirmed on the day of. They said they had it all noted. Great, right? Nope. When we got there, it was chaos. We stood around for a solid 10-15 minutes. Nobody greeted us. The person at the front desk was literally arguing with someone else and ignoring us. Birthday? Yeah, they forgot that part. Not a word. Then they sat us at what I'd call... the worst table in the house. Cramped between two other tables, basically no elbow room. I asked if we could move to an empty spot at the bar. They said no, that it was reserved... but then nobody even showed up for that spot for at least 45 minutes. The food? Honestly, average. We were considering omakase, but after that service--and zero effort made on the birthday--we just had a couple rolls and got out of there. In short: Terrible service, birthday ignored, bad table, mediocre food. Not coming back read more

DO NOT waste your money on their Omakase menu. It's an absolute rip-off. This place is highly overrated. Have had far better Omakase experiences for way less. The tables are way too close to each other, you can barely hear yourself talking in there. I went to celebrate Valentine's Day early, and the place was honestly a complete disappointment. Most of the restaurants on that block are all pretty overrated. Just because it's in "Beverly Hills" doesn't make it good, unfortunately. What a disappointment! Sushi is always my first choice for food and I have dined at many fine places. My sister and I went here for lunch because she said it was Nobu's first place. The interior decor was average, nothing special which I don't care much if the food is good. We each ordered the combination sushi- 8 pieces and one roll. What a disappointment . Two of the fish were tamago and ebi. I don't ever recall getting that low grade and boring of a selection. The presentation was laughable- see photo. No creativity here. The taste was mid. At that point we both decided not to order anymore dishes. The service was good. The bill came and we looked at each other and laughed .Such a sad experience . Never going back. Obviously. read more

This spot has your typical 90s vibe with private room option viable as well. You never know which celebrity you might bump into. Metered street parking and valet options available. Portions are smaller and prices are higher as expected for this place. Food is solid but if you want exceptional you have to order the sushi as the rice is phenomenal. 4.5 stars that I will round up read more

Service is great! The sushi, et al, is exactly the quality you would expect. The facility and the ambiance are...well let's say eclectic...spartan to say the least! I have felt more warm and comfortable at various Waffle Houses throughout the country! It's very much an "Emperor has no clothes" situation. Most patrons are too pretentious to accept that the place is the equivalent to a double wide trailer home! (Possibly smaller). I will still give it for stars...but in truth that's in homage to the brand, not this particular location. Hey, it's LA! read more

The food was phenomenal. Unfortunately, we had an awful experience with our waiter Ohad. He was extremely rude and dismissive; it was 2pm so he was clearly ready to go home... he could've pushed through and stayed strong for another 15 minutes... but he chose not to and showed a lack of work ethic. He made a couple of very rude remarks to my wife and I and I was waiting for him to come back to the table after taking our order to confront him about it... but he left once we got our food. Luckily for us, Noel took over and he was awesome! Ryan at the desk was also amazing, he even offered to take of picture of us outside! Matsuhisa is so overrated. After hearing so much about this restaurant I finally decided to take my girlfriend here for Valentines Day. It was such a disappointment and I would never come back here again. I spent 400 dollars here for a party of 2. We ordered appetizers, sushi, dessert and sake as well. The food was incredibly overpriced and the quality of some of the dishes were questionable. The Scallop Kushiyaki was very dry even when it was drenched in teriyaki sauce. Initially I wanted to order the White Fish Tempura but the server suggested that I order the Tempura with their special sauce. Upon receiving the bill, I saw that adding the special sauce with red onions and jalapenos was an additional $20. The White Fish Tempura was already $14, so I ended up paying $34 for that dish. Not even for some special fish, Just plain fried white fish. The only thing I liked from this restaurant were the Golden Eye Snapper and the Akamutsu Sushi. I honestly can't recommend anything else. The ambiance of the restaurant is outdated and depressing. I felt a little crammed and there was nothing in the entire restaurant that I found unique or impressive. We sat inside, but I couldn't imagine sitting outside. Service was mediocre and the tip is automatically entered in your bill. Surely $70 is far too much for the service we received. *Nobu Matsuhisa* When I was a youngster, Nobu was my sushi god. Long before his hype & fame on tv & the internet, Matsuhisa was the place to be -- especially if you were fortunate enough to be served by THE Humble Sushi Master himself. Tho this wasn't the only game in town, it felt more special. It was like a sacred secret that only "the locals" knew about...and reservations were a must -- unless you knew someone or arrived when they opened. Matsuhisa was THE sushi staple. Nobu's singnature unique dishes such as Peruvian Sashimi in delectable sauces and his Miso Black Cod, are only some of his iconic eclectic fusion dishes copied by everyone in the sushi game today. Nobu Matsuhisa is legendary to the California culinary scene, just like Wolfgang Puck, for Spago and Chinois on Main. I've been fortunate to be served personally from Nobu at Matsuhisa and also Nobu Malibu, when they first opened, and every time I was in awe, each minute & every bite, within my Sushi Master's presence. I watched & studied everything he did behind the sushi counter, as I often did with baseball pitchers & hitters, trying to perfect my own game. I watched him in action. I felt a connection every time he'd flash me a smile, a friendly head-nod or simple bow & say "thank you" whenever I expressed gratitude and savored his creations. Nobu is a one-of-a kind sushi pioneer and restauranteur. He's cultivated and opened the door & channels for sushi successes throughout the United States and entire globe. My love for sushi, the tradition, and respect for Nobu Matsuhisa was so influential to me, it propelled me to getting into my very own sushi game, when I got older and had an opportunity. Thanks to my Mom & Dad for getting me into sushi when I was only 8 years old and we were regulars at a spot (Sagano) for years up until they were forced to close shop because the center where they were was demolished on Pico/Westwood Blvd, and then it became the Westside Pavilion Mall. Growing up in LA, I wasn't into the club and bar scene. But I was a bonafide & certified diehard sushi barfly. I have the distinction of introducing nearly every one of my friends & acquaintances to a new world of raw fish, sushi and traditional Japanese cuisine. I even went for sushi with my history teacher in Jr High, proceeded by Dodger games. All my friends thought I was so cool. My teacher was pretty damn cool. What I love most about sushi bars & Japanese restaurants, is they're all different and unique in their own special ways. There's your local Mom & Pop Shops, high-end to low-end chain-gangs...and traditional stand-alone's too. A good sushi joint is like having a good barber or hairstylist. A good cleaners or a repairman. It feels more memorable and personal, when you're appreciated and frequent the same place "where everybody knows your name" like a neighborhood Cheers sitcom. My favorite has always been the Mom & Pop Shop -- where I was lucky enough to learn the ropes & traditions, when I was 13, from a Japanese husband & wife team who took me under their wings at their restaurant, well-into my 30th birthday, and taught me as if I was the son they never had. They knew who Nobu Matsuhisa was and respected him too. But $ signs & fame never clouded their judgement as they stayed true to their traditions & craft and refrained from mass expansion -- not that there's a problem with that. They were simpleton's. I still love & respect Nobu Matsuhisa, but no longer love the restaurant. What was once a major high-5 for me is now simply a 3. I know times & things change. But this place is now a combo of changing too much and not enough. Tho the quality is still stellar, their prices are now outrageous for the portions served, and the overall feel & service is slightly robotic to me. And for me, it lost that lure it once had. The ambiance doesn't feel as special and lacks the charm of yesteryear. Nowadays it's just as much a "one & done" opposed to a regular destination, due to competition and lower-prices elsewhere for similar cuisine and dining experience. Don't get me wrong, Matsuhisa is still worth a try if you haven't been...so you can claim you have. Because Matsuhisa belongs in the Restaurant Hall of Fame and Nobu deserves a Lifetime Achievement Award. Matsuhisa is still an institution. It's not just a "LA Thing" anymore. It now has worldwide mass global appeal. Because of the visionary and kind gentle man himself... *Nobu Matsuhisa* Period Sayonara, Scotto San read more
