6 stars for the spicy Niku udon, 3.5 stars for the other dishes I've tried! The first time I went to Kochi, I got the spicy beef (niku) udon and was absolutely obsessed. For under $20, it was so filling, the perfect amount of spice, with a nice helping of chewy udon cooked to perfection. I was so obsessed, I went back the same week to try their carbonara udon and was less impressed. While it had the same udon, it was a little too heavy on the cream. Yesterday, I went back and tried the niku udon to try something else and was lowkey disappointed. The soup was really salty so we ended up adding in a whole cup of hot water to make it more edible. Still love the spicy niku but don't think I'll try anything else here! Parking: metered parking out front for 1.50 and hour! Service is always A++!

Came here on a Thursday evening, and it was totally empty! The food was very yummy-- my favorites were the carbonara udon and the Ramen. Their noodle dishes, I think outshine their sushi. The hand rolls and tuna crispy rice were fine. I wouldn't come here again for sushi specifically... but their udon carbonara was sooooo yummy and great if you are craving this. Lots of people swing by here for a quick drink since it's located next to a theater I believe. I saw two couples do this while at dinner! Street parking only. Casual vibe.

Delicious Japanese food spot!! I've gone here multiple times now (and Doordashed) and I love the mentai cream udon. Service is always fast and the waiters are so sweet and kind.

We loved the authentic udon and pasta! Loved the texture, taste, and creaminess of the dishes. We followed Kochi on Instagram, and got a free green tea which was nice. The restaurant was run by an older gentleman and a younger lady, therefore I recommend coming in early right after it opens before the restaurant gets packed quickly! The service was not bad, they were busy but accommodating. Also, they helped us adjusted and gave us a wheelchair-accessible table. Would come back!

5 stars for the uni cream udon soup (from my partner) Vegan udon soup with bean curd was interesting. Different. Udon noodles super fat! There's a weird yuzu jelly sake drink that seems vegetarian though has like boba elements to it. Confusing but good. Nice and quiet in a Sunday at 2. Service is good.

Uni Cream Udon combo with Spicy Tuna Bowl $29

Went here 2 Saturdays ago for lunch, I was in the area so found this spot to try as I saw there were good reviews. I ordered from the lunch combo - Uni udon and spicy tuna bowl. What a good combo great to try together and I definitely love the creamy sauce of the udon. I ordered Cheese Curry Udon which he said was good as well. A full order is more servings of course than the lunch combination but it's a good way to try 2 different dishes. The place was not that full and there was only 1 server when I went but it was still efficient. There's a few outdoor seats and the place isn't so cramped. They have other Japanese dishes but as someone who frequents Japanese restaurant -I tried the Uni udon as this is not available in the regular spots I go to. Would definitely return when I'm back in the area. Highly recommend if you are looking for a spot for udon as they have different options for sauces, they also have traditional udon. I'm sure this is a good spot for both lunch and dinner. Parking by the street, not sure which is the spot behind but there's an alley behind this restaurant. price point per person about $20-$30.

Absolutely LOVED this restaurant, we went for lunch on a rainy day and were SO blown away. The ambiance at this place is very relaxing and the wait staff were extremely kind and attentive. We got the lunch combo that included the Uni Cream Udon and a Spicy Tuna bowl for only $29, which was such a steal for the quality of the food! Not featured in the photo is the Niku Udon we got which was also extremely flavorful! They have half portions which was great for trying a bunch of different dishes, or just if you have a smaller appetite! The presentation of the lunch combo was so beautiful, I'm surprised people aren't swarming the doors to eat here!

Personally, I'm not the type to eat edamame unless other people order it for the table but this garlic one was so addicting that I'd order a portion for myself. The karaage was good but personally would rather get multiple orders of the rock shrimp tempura. It's one of the best I've had like better than Catch LA in my opinion plus it's half the price for the same portion. Typically, I'm a ramen person but places like this have made me grown to love udon. Also, I loove how they have two sizes for their udon because the half size was just perfect since I wasn't too hungry and it can go as cheap as only $11. I got the creamy uni and it was so good like really creamy yet light and the right amount of uni flavor. The broth of the spicy niku was also really yummy! The vibes of the restaurant were nice and chill and if you follow them on IG, you can get free green tea!

Dining here was a pleasant, relaxing, and delicious experience. I arrived with one other person on a cold Friday night, and we were seated immediately. The inside of the restaurant was warm, dimly lit, and quiet with jazzy versions of Christmas songs playing over the speakers at a comfortable volume. I loved the art that wrapped around the walls. The ambiance was as gentle and soothing as the udon :) We started with the Otsumami cucumber and got the niku and uni cream udons (half size). Otsumami cucumber: Flavorful and refreshing cucumber salad. A tad small, but the seasoning was to die for. UNI CREAM UDON: So rich and creamy! This was like a warm hug in a bowl. The chunks of uni melt in your mouth, and the noodles are impossibly long and bouncy. This was my favorite dish that we got. I had tasted uni only one other time before this and I didn't like it. Now I know what actually good uni tastes like! The server described it as a cross between fish and chicken, and that sums it up pretty well. We were debating getting the mentaiko cream udon but ultimately chose uni because of the server's suggestion. He noted that the mentaiko tastes more fishy. We felt that the half size was enough for one (not too hungry) person after an appetizer. Niku udon: Thick noodles in a warm, soothing broth with tender beef and sweet onions. Super easy to slurp and gentle on the palate. I also really enjoyed this udon, but I did like the uni better because it was more rich. We ordered the crystal ball for dessert, which is like the viral "raindrop cake" or mizu shingen mochi. While the crystal alone was relatively tasteless, it became refreshing and subtly sweet when combined with the roasted soybean powder and syrup. The dessert was very delicate and light, but the whipped cream on the side just tasted like coolwhip, which threw me off a bit. Overall, with udon this satisfying and an atmosphere this inviting, I was expecting Kochi to be way more packed on a Friday night. They clearly deserve more hype! But for now, it's nice to find a spot with truly amazing food like this that doesn't have a crazy wait time or reservations booked out way in advance. I hope it stays like this.

    Kim B.

A little disappointing to be honest - we came primarily for the Uni udon and it was definitely 90% cream, 10% everything else, so there really wasn't any flavor to speak of aside from cream. Also the soup soon was insane - basically a rice cooker paddle so not practical for any sort of soup and noodle. Outside of that, service was friendly and fast and the tofu starter was yummy. Texture of the udon was good.

    Mentai Cream Udon
    Vivian Q.

Nice casual spot for when you're craving thick udon noodles on a chilly night. We ordered the mixed tempura to share - perfect light and airy batter, as well as the crispy rice. I had the niku udon, which hit the spot although a tad too salty. My other dining companions liked the creamy udon dishes (the consensus was mentai over uni cream), and also liked the spicy niku udon even if it did make them break a sweat with the heat! Our server was efficient, handling the busy 730 weekday rush, and had a sassy sense of humor we enjoyed.

    Brianna W.

First time here! I am not fully versed in udon terminology, but when asking our waiter for assistance such as "what is niku udon.. he could not explain. Food was good, the rock shrimp had lots of flavor and crunch. The udon portion was LARGE which was maybe why our server asked if we were sharing lol. We also got an unfiltered bottle of Soju, I did not know what unfiltered meant, but probably not the drink for me. Overall, would eat here again & come in with more knowledge next time!

A hidden gem in the middle of LA! I added this restaurant to my bookmarks a little bit after driving by it and finally had the chance to try it. They're known for their udon and it was pretty solid. I loved their chicken katsu and it was an adequate portion size. Needless to say I couldn't finish it! Everything tasted fresh and the quality was satisfying. Service was outstanding. I'd also like to come in for lunch as it seems like they have some really good value sets, we love a good deal. I would love to get the beef bowl next time.

The salmon dinner for $24 was memorable, just not in a good way.

Tucked away on 6th Street, this spot feels like a cozy, sophisticated secret that opens up into a world of incredible flavors and top-tier hospitality. Here is why it's my new favorite spot in K-Town: The Soba is Mandatory: They are famous for their Handmade Soba, and for good reason. The texture is perfect--firm with a clean, nutty finish. Whether you get it cold with a dipping sauce or in a warm broth, you can taste the craft in every bite. Incredible Small Plates: The menu is designed for sharing, and every "bite" is a hit. The Tuna Carpaccio is incredibly fresh, and the Agedashi Tofu has that perfect delicate crunch while remaining silken on the inside. The "Mi Young" Hospitality: The service here is what really sets it apart. The staff is warm, attentive, and they make you feel like a regular on your very first visit. They are excellent at suggesting sake pairings that complement the specific dishes you order. Atmosphere: The vibe is "elevated cozy." It has beautiful wood accents, dim lighting, and a refined yet relaxed energy. It's the perfect escape from the hectic pace of the city--ideal for an intimate date night or a deep catch-up with close friends. The Highballs: Their drink game is on point. The highballs are crisp, perfectly carbonated, and serve as the ultimate palate cleanser between savory plates. Pro Tip: This is a smaller, intimate space and it fills up fast with locals who know what's up. Definitely try to grab a reservation or head there early to secure a spot! Izakaya Mi Young is a beautiful addition to the neighborhood. It's soulful, delicious, and executed with a level of care that is hard to find.

Although it didn't necessarily live up to the hype, it was definitely an authentic spot tucked in a busy area of LA. Parking, was particularly hard to find. Definitely recommend making a reservation in advance. Immediately greeted by a friendly staff who showed us our table. Ambience was reminiscent of a local spot you'd find in Tokyo. A comforting, warm, bright place that serves as a familiar dinner spot that makes me wanna go back to Japan. For first timer, the menu was slightly hard to navigate. Lol, but I guess that speaks to the authenticity of the Japanese menu. Assorted pork belly wrapped yakitori/skewers, 7.8/10: these were hyped up by both my friend and the server, but overall it was slightly underwhelming. The skewers were all seasoned nicely, although they were a bit hard to eat since they were so big. Starting with the pork belly wrapped cabbage skewer, I don't believe the cabbage added any sustenance to the dish. I did like the bacon wrapped tomato skewer since the pop of acidity and freshness from the tomato paired well with the fat from the pork. Chicken Karaage, 9.1/10: definitely the best dish here. Chicken was fried perfectly, and was warm when it came out. The batter was not too thick or heavy. Season well with enough space. The lemon is a must for acidity and brightness. And of course they kewpie mayo is a nice touch. Tonkotsu Ramen, 7.5/10: the pork broth was rich and deep. The noodles were nice and chewy and firm clinging onto that broth. However, the portion was a bit small for the price. I was caught off guard by that. Granted, this place doesn't boast about the ramen. Overall, this wasn't anything mind blowing. Stuffed chicken wing, 8/10: stuffed generously with ground chicken ginger scallions and seasonings. The outside skin was flavorful crispy and savory. The temperature of the wings were pretty good too. Solid.
