The Bop is an underrated experience. I don't know why this place isn't trending on every social media because for this charashi don alone, it was worth every penny. It's a 3/5...which by Yelp's definition is "OK." It's hard to finesse a "three" on here with little direction up or down, but the meal simply that...OK. Ordered the. Bulgogi bowl, some chicken karaage, the spicy tuna on crispy rice and the chirashi don. Miso soup: not deeply flavorful and rich with umami. Was a bit watered down - but for free, enjoy a couple sips. Spicy tuna on crispy rice: the rice was almost tooth-breaking and flavorless - as was the concoction on top. Except...for a real pop of jalapeno, was was nice and a game-saver for this dish. It's not bad, but certainly not something one returns for even once. Chicken Kaarage: all bread, with perhaps a beak in there somewhere. Felt like a tough dumpling with some sweet sauce on the side. Could have saved the carbs / calories on this one. Chirashi-don: fish didn't pop with flavor or depth. Some was mushi. My friend commented on the best part being the tamago. Thank goodness for the egg. Not offensive, and didn't cause heartburn or food poisoning! So another "3" level plus there. The portion was generous, so if you're cool with the fish here, order away! Finally, the bulgogi bowl. While there wasn't quite enough beef for me (perhaps avoiding second bites of the other items made my hunger grow), the taste was lovely and the beef on the tiny bone was fun to eat. Stumbled upon The Bop while washing my rugs across the street at a laundry mat. Asian food is one of my favorite genres of food, so I set to give The Bop a try. What stood out to me was that this place is a fusion of Japanese and Korean! The menu offered a variety of choices. I ordered the kimchi fried rice. Boy, I was in for a treat!!! The kimchi was spicy just at the right level! The amount of kimchi in the fried rice was perfect. The seasonings, green onions, and seaweed is also on par with the total eating experience of the kimchi fried rice. The store is mainly a small "order to go" brick and mortar. There are only two tables, so don't expect to have a dine in experience like a regular restaurant. Make sure you order your food to eat elsewhere. I appreciate the person I ordered from explaining to me about the place not being a regular sit in place to eat. So take note if you come to The Bop to get food. The salad has a great dressing. The miso soup wasn't salty and just perfect. The kalbi wasn't in a bowl like the dragon don. It was a 2 compartment box where the smaller side was the meat and the larger side the purple rice. Love the fresh pickled radish and cold temperature contrast. I would have preferred the salmon bowl with all salmon instead. Note - ordering through yelp has a 20% off a $25 order. That does not work. I had seen pictures on Yelp and was drawn to Dragon Don, and special request to go easy on the sauce for the enagi(eel), served with shrimp tempura, veggies on a sushi rice bowl. I am glad the kitchen was able to accommodate my special request. Because I was dining here, I expected a ceramic bowl/dish as I had seen in the pictures posted by the owner. Upon tasting the miso soup and the Dragon Don, I was bewildered on its deliciousness, 5stars for these alone. When my food was brought out, both the bowl and the complimentary miso were in paper bowls :( Misrepresentation: what was advertised in the pictures by the owner of the foods in ceramic ware but instead served in paper ware! For Me, eating in paper bowl when dining at the place, lessens the dining experience enjoyment. If I ordered it togo, so I can transfer to a ceramic dish, this food would not taste as fresh. 4 stars. Crispy, delicious, perfect pieces and perfect sauce. ~Takoyaki - Delicious. ~Bara Chirashi - so much fish, shrimp, the sweetest & best tamago and sushi rice.
