Updating my review from ten years ago and it is still a 10/10 experience! Robata Jinya had rolled through the punches. While many restaurants have come and go, Robata Jinya kept changing with the time. For example, they used to close at 2pm to get ready for dinner. Now they have extended their hours and this is my favorite spot to take a late lunch because their lunch specials and happy hour menu overlap. This lunch size servie of ramen and two spicy tuna crispy rice is less than $20 ($16 during the time of this review.) It is a bit harder to find that price for lunch in this area with the quality and amount of food you are getting. Food and drinks are still top notch here. There is a lychee martini that I highly recommend where they infuse it with lychee smoke in a bubble. read more

Robata JINYA is a great choice for happy hour. Their prices are super reasonable and the quality of the sushi is solid. We tried many things on the menu, with the crab hand roll and crispy rice with tuna being the favs. The scallop sushi (not on the happy hour menu) was also really good. The lychee martini is a must try. It comes with a huge smoke filled bubble on top, and is not too sweet. The interior is nice with some interesting samurai artifacts and wood beam ceilings. Came back again for sushi, loved it This is a pretty decent spot for sushi and skewers, you won't go wrong (never had ramen here). Service is friendly, not overly attentive. This is more of a food place rather than dining experience. FOOD Crispy Tuna Rice (8.5/10): Started off with my go-to appetiser in sushi restaurants, love that this place uses jalapeño on top. Nothing to complain, it's good I had two pieces. Spicy Creamy Shrimp Roll (8/10): It's pretty good if you like shrimp tempura. I prefer nigiri's more, so roll is not really my thing. But this is yummy, the shrimp on top kinda reminds me of the shrimp dish at Catch LA. Oyster Mushroom Skewer (8.9/10): Honestly this is my favourite dish in here and makes me curious to come back just for skewers. Love the char taste in it, it doesn't even taste like mushroom anymore. Nicely seasoned, very juicy. I sprinkled a bit Shichimi on top, along with the lemon- lovely! Nigiri (8-8.8/10): All of them are fresh and delicious, I love the toro and scallops. The salmon belly is pretty good if you like salmon, super fatty and melts into your mouth. OVERALL Overall, this place really leaves a great impression during my past 2 visits and I'd be happy to come back again anytime soon. It's been a long time since I ate here. Probably at least 8 years ago. I'm happy to see that they are still in business. I really like their lunch menu and their sushi. I typically go to the Jinya location in Studio City or Santa Monica. What I appreciate about Robata-Jinya is that they make a Tonkotsu White Ichiban soup which is half chicken broth and half pork broth. The broth was very tasty. I took one star away because the pork tasted old and wasn't tender. It was plentiful for a lunch special since it came with crispy rice and spicy tuna. I was disappointed that it didn't come with an egg. The crispy rice was very oily and greasy. My husband had the spicy vegan ramen and an avocado cut roll. The avocado was plentiful! Service was Outstanding. Cool vibe inside. They also have a bar and outdoor patio. Parking can be challenging. read more

Came here for an event during their grand opening and had a great experience! This is a sister restaurant to Saijo, definitely a must visit in LA. Service was friendly and accommodating. It was a set menu but i got an opportunity to try a lot of different items - so I'll run down how everything was for me! Ceviche - this was a top 3 for me. limey, zesty, full of flavor and fresh. Aburi Oshi Sushi - the salmon and shrimp was fresh but way too much rice and it took away from the main element. Shrimp Toast - crispy outer later, with fresh shrimp in the interior. Chilean Bass - rich and buttery with a baby sweetness touch. they added a green sauce for extra flavorful. Hot stone wagyu - this one is 10/10! cooked to perfection and it literally melts in your mouth with tenderness. Lamb chop - super tender and flavorful, another fav meat from the menu that I would re-order. Matcha tiramisu - for all the matcha fanatics, this is a perfect sweet treat to meet you at the end of your meal! 8/10. Duck Breast - bit chewy and fatty, flavor was there but the texture kind of threw me off. Eggplant w/miso - sweet and mushy. i can see eggplant lovers into this one - but it wasn't my favorite. They have a great selection of assorted Nigiri - with the freshest fish, you can't go wrong with any of them. Blood Orange Margarita - this is a fan favorite and i can see why. if you're unsure grab this one! I've been to Robata Jinya twice over the years, once for dinner before the pandemic, in 2019, and last month, for an easy Monday lunch. I'd meant to come back sooner, but it never quite made sense, and now I worry that the place is not long for this world. It was completely empty at prime lunchtime. I doubt our check covered wages for the hour we were there. I hope Robata Jinya does better at night because it is a legitimately good Japanese restaurant in a central part of town. The concept is sort of izakaya/yakitori, but the menu covers a broad band of Japanese cuisine. You can get skewers, of course, but also sushi and ramen. This makes sense, since Jinya is part of the Jinya Ramen Bar family, a restaurant chain that came over from Japan to Los Angeles back in 2010. The vibe is pleasant and relaxed, though obviously more fun when the dining room isn't deserted. Service is good, attentive and fast. Being the only customers probably does help with that. There is alcohol on the menu, but I haven't partaken (pregnancy; Monday lunch). I'm sure it's nice to sit for a while and have some sake. The food is great. I got some sushi and skewers my first visit (helpfully noted in this Yelp draft for all these years). Red snapper and ikura nigiri, an uni and blue crab hand roll. Chicken thigh, chicken oyster, tsukune, and eel, with the house miso, cilantro yuzu, and spicy mayo dipping sauces. I kept it light on my last visit, getting an order of tsukune and the lime roll. The chicken meatball was as tasty as I remembered, and I loved the lime roll, a spicy tuna roll topped with salmon, lime, and sesame ponzu. Very much up my alley and as satisfying and delicious as it sounds. I want to go back to Robata Jinya and will keep it in mind next time I feel like yakitori or a rice rocket spicy tuna roll. Stopped here for Happy Hour yesterday. Good drink and food specials. We enjoyed the edamame, lime roll, miso soup, tempura Brussel sprouts and crispy rice with tuna. Happy Hour runs from 3:00 - 6:00 Monday - Friday. Seems like a popular spot, although there weren't a ton of people when we were there, but usually the place is always packed. We must've been there during a shift change, because at one point, our server disappeared and a new one showed up...without our food. Today we came to this location for happy hour and everything was so good. Everything that we ordered tasted really good. From the beef tartar, to the waygu sliders, to the sushi rolls was immaculate. I don't often write reviews, but I definitely had to take a quick minute to recognize this amazing spot! I have been coming here on and off for three years. I could even go as far as to say I'm a regular. What draws me in is the sheer consistency each and every time I go. It isn't just the food (which is almost always amazing), but the atmosphere and that it is always clean, and lastly the service which is honestly always spot on! I have never had an experience here that is even remotely negative! Just the other night, I was there and I lost my new iPhone, or at least I thought I did. My husband and I ordered online thru Uber Eats, the photos are definitely NOT what you get in person. I attached uber eat photo for reference. The size of the sushi is very small. Also the shrimp photo skewer presents way more shrimp and I got 3 pieces LOL. I could've saved myself the $$ and made my own at home if that was the case I never seen a 3 piece skewer...overall NOT impressed maybe dining in might be different and it's expensive because of "quality" and "aesthetic " def will be sticking to my go to sushi spots. Friendly and quick service! Perfect late night bite when you're craving a healing bowl of ramen. The JINYA Tonkotsu Black ramen was delicious. I devoured it. The thin noodles are perfectly cooked, the broth was light, complex, and flavorful. The soft boiled egg was incredible. All of the toppings were fresh. Truly a wonderful bowl of ramen. I don't know how it took me so long to finally try out Robata Jinya, which is a sister restaurant to two of my favorite Japanese restaurants in LA, @saijohandroll and @jinyaramenbar . This Samurai-inspired Izakaya serves up a menu of authentic, elevated Japanese dishes, sushi, robotayaki (grilled skewers), sake and more. Both their wagyu and sashimi-based dishes were absolutely stand out from others that I've tried, and well-executed with extremely fresh, high quality cuts of meat and fish. Service was also so friendly and attentive, and I really appreciated how the manager stepped in to let us know that they weren't able to make a dish we ordered and offered to replace it with any dish of our choice from the menu. My only gripe is the tough parking situation (but that's not the restaurant's fault, just a general issue in the Beverly Grove area, and I'd highly recommend just going with valet parking to save yourself the heartache of having to find street parking. Adding @robatajinya to my all time favorite list of Japanese izayakas in LA, and I definitely can't wait to come back again to try more of their menu! Service: service was horrible-2nd time. We walked in w/o reservations and were sat at the Sushi Bar which was very uncomfortable since servers reached over us to pickup food. We asked to move to an empty table for two. There were several empty tables for the entire time we were there. Server: was tired and lazy, never returned to service us, then left without giving our check. We sat 30 min waiting for her. Literally one of my favorite places ever! Me, my husband, and our friends eat here nearly weekly (there have been times we've even gone twice in a week). We never get sick of it! Love the staff too -- ily Natalie, Sierra, Do (just to name a few!) but everyone is so amazing. And they have an incredible happy hour too. Some none pictured faves: yellowtail jalapeño, sashimi, Toro taku hand roll, spicy creamy vegan Ramen, and I'm not kidding when I say that their vegetable cut roll is a necessity every time. Also, highly recommend getting their Yuzu soy sauce if you get any yellowtail, hand rolls or cut rolls. And I have no idea what the deal with their spicy cucumber salad is, we've gotten it a handful of times hoping it gets better but it's so bland so if you insist on getting it ask for extra sauce. read more

One of my favorite happy hours on this side of the city. Their skewers come out hot, my favorite being the juicy chicken meatballs (tsukune). The brussel spout tempura is unexpectedly one of the best bites on their happy hour menu. The spicy tuna crispy rice is standard but comes with a decent portion of fish on top. Their handrolls are also fantastic. For $10 you can pick two, my go to order is the salmon and yellowtail jalapeño. Love their lychee cocktail as well. Skip the seared tuna and wagyu tataki. Service is great. They have some indoor seating and a sushi bar + outdoor patio, better for smaller groups. Parking is tricky at times but it is worth it for their happy hour deals. I really like this place with its outdoor dining and the neat izakaya like dishes. Food Tofu: I recommend this! They serve it as a pour and becomes a tofu before your eyes. It's served with green onions, ginger, and soy sauce. All of these pack a delightful and savory touch. Tongue: This is is stewed not the grilled sliced kind which is only on regular menu. The regular menu is eight slices. Shrimp toast: I always crave this as a savory bite. I've ordered it a couple times and it comes out slightly differently each time. It is still really good. Salmon seared: Note that this is is not salmon belly, but seared other part of salmon. The patio seating is quite nice given the weather is characteristically warm! Service is quick and casual. I took my husband to Robata Jinya some time ago for his birthday and we really enjoyed everything we ordered, from the housemade tofu, beef tongue, yellowtail collar, to chirashi bowl with toro and uni. Service was professional and the ambiance was trendy. It's next to a bar that had very loud music on and it was difficult for us to hear each other, but that's not the restaurant's fault and it also came down to our personal preference. It was one of the worst restaurant experience for me. It took very long to order food since the server was not checking our table at all while they checked the other table multiple times. We finally ordered 2 handrolls and 2 menu. They brought only handrolls and while later, asked us if we were waiting for anything else. I never seen any restaurant forgot half of the order and asked if we want to order more. They didn't even come to our table. The server was passing behind me and turned her head to us and asked. Also, we asked for napkins and they kind of threw it in front of my friend and left. When we finished, we had to ask 3 different people to get a check and we could finally pay and leave. I'm literally sitting in the restaurant writing this because the experience has been that disappointing. We got our ramen before our appetizer, which is already a red flag. Turns out they forgot our buffalo cauliflower entirely until I waved down a busser to ask about it--after already having to wave him down just to get a fork for my girlfriend. Not once did a server come over to check on us. When the ramen came, it was cold. And again, no one came by to see how it was or to even acknowledge us. Eventually the buffalo cauliflower arrived--undercooked and honestly not good. I wouldn't order it again. The ramen itself had decent flavor, but it being cold really killed the vibe. It could've been great if someone had just checked in with us. The worst part? After all that, no one came by to offer the check. We had to wave someone down just to pay and leave. Not a single server ever actually came to our table. This experience was frustrating, and while food mistakes happen, every one of them could've been fixed with basic service. Made a last minute reservation. My colleague recommended this, as I was looking for something in mid-town. We get there right at our reservation time, and the only table they had was outside. We're not super picky, so we said yes to the outside. This was good and bad. It was a bit of a chilly night, and heaters were angled away from the edges of the patio. On the plus side, we got to do some people-watching. Service was fine. I like that when we needed new teas, they just gave us new ones so they were piping hot (rather than pouring hot tea into a half-full mug of cold tea -- because then you just get lukewarm tea *side eye*). Now for the food. The food is amazing. We started with the homemade tofu, which had a lot of add-ins (really not sure what they were), which made it tart and flavorful. They are not shy about saying this is Jonathan Gold's favorite dish. The truffle tempura brussell sprouts were also good - lightly fried, the truffle salt was nice. The chicken oysters were nice and tender, the beef cooked medium and juicy, the lamb chop flavorful (the mushroom sauce was nice). OH and the premium beef tongue -- so good. Came on a hot plate that was ON FIRE. I'll post a pic. And shrimp toast. Never had this before, but delicious. The meal also came with three dipping sauces. Couldn't quite discern what each was, although one tasted like chili sauce with mayo, another was citrus-y, and the third was like fermented soy (like, doenjang - this was my fav). They also have an omakase menu that includes sashimi and sushi, which seems like a pretty good deal. We weren't in the mood for raw fish that night, so skipped on that. We didn't get drinks or dessert, but plan on being back at some point. Everything was fairly reasonably priced. We were both completely full, and our bill came out to less than $90, which includes tax and tip (keep in mind, this was pre-pandemic, in 2019). HH 2-6pm daily this place has one of the best happy hour offers i've ever seen in LA! they offer various drinks and small bites ranging from nigiris to pitchers of beer we ordered lycheetini sapporo draft brussels sprouts tempura jinya ceviche two hand rolls three nigiris two maki rolls three yakitori we ordered a number of different items on the menu, and the total came out to $86. we left so full and satisfied. every single item on the menu was delicious. my particular favorites were the brussels sprout tempura, jinya ceviche and hand rolls i would highly recommend this place and i'll definitely be back to try more of their happy hour menu items! read more

We ordered the mushrooms, eggplant, brussel sprouts, tableside tofu, crispy rice with avocado (instead of fish) and finished with their vegan ramen.
