Update- was really looking forward to dinner at Chubby Curry. My friends and I have patronized this place since it opened. It was our go-to place for almost two years. We hadn't been in about 6 months and decided to drop in for dinner before a movie- Wow, has it changed- and not in a good way. There were fewer staff and they were spread thin, with not even half the tables full. The place was a little unkept. The menu is all digital- so we had some questions ordering our favorites. We got the Wagu steak with rice and curry and the breaded chicken breast. When the Wagu arrived it was unrecognizable- brown and looked over cooked - no pink. The entire dish was completely unappetizing. It was sad looking. I tried to show the server that this looked nothing like the menu photos in the front wall. He was already flustered and told me "to calm down ma'am" and that is "how it comes- we put soy sauce on it." The calm down nonsense was a real put off. My next question was, why is a restaurant putting soy sauce on perfect Wagu? None of the menu photos show soy sauce. We have never had soy sauce drenched Wagu here ever. The amount of soy sauce - if any-- is up to the guest. We all have our sodium preferences, right? I personally liked their Wagu plate as is. I tried to get the server to follow me to the front wall to show him the photo of all their Wagu dishes on their front wall and he was really not happy. Those photos were how their food always looked- fresh- colorful and delicious looking. The comparison was stunningly different- he would not hear it - and was visible upset with me. Sending this back caused quite a problem- more like an argument with the server who insisted this is how Wagu comes. It does not and I posted a review previously with photos from several visits to this once fun to eat at place. They offered to remake it and I caught the server and chef's convo. Chef was bewildered with the whole no soy sauce thing. The server came back with a small piece of Wagu in a service cup to show me what their Wagu looked like before the soy sauce bath. It was not the bright fresh pink. It was gray, like it had been prepped a couple days ago and refrigerated. Completely unacceptable and not appetizing. I told them to please not remake it. It would be a waste and please Just remove it and we'd order something else. The server was so upset with me he told me he would remove everything and not charge us at all. I felt that was unfair to the restaurant and his attitude was like don't order anything, and do not come back. My guy friend insisted that we pay and the server came back with a bill for just the chicken. I gave him cash for everything we ordered including the Wagu, and he brought me almost all the money back. I was particularly insulted by this. This was such negative energy- I did not want to touch it. I left all the money on the table and left. Message to the owner- replacing servers with digital menus does not lessen their work. it increases their time explaining what dishes are and how dishes come. You need more people because servers have more work in less time. I really felt for this server and did not feel any of this was his fault. The quality drop in food, the excess work due to digital menus, and food not matching the promises made in photos at the front wall from opening day are not your server's fault. We were expecting the same consistency and were sadly disappointed. We will not be returning. read more

Definitely pair their side of tonkatsu with whatever you order though as the large slab of tenderloin was very nicely fried. My wife's cream udon was rich and filling though her handmade Wagyu dumplings were thick-skinned and filled with surprisingly dry meat. I am a Chubby Club Plus member and have high expectations for Chubby restaurants. They have always been so impressive, but unfortunately, Chubby Curry did not meet our high expectations and was slightly disappointing tbh. I came this past Wednesday for a late lunch around 2PM. I was surprised to see that the restaurant was empty, since I'm used to waiting ~1 hour for Chubby restaurants. The restaurant has a lot of anime decorations around, with a lot of Demon Slayer figurines and posters decorating the place. Huge fan. We ordered the DineLA lunch which includes wagyu hamburger + waffle fries + drink for $25. Love the curry waffle fries with the curry seasoning on it. The wagyu burger was comparable to what is served at the AYCE Chubby Cattle/Wagyu Master restaurants. They are bigger and slightly more elevated in flavor though. We also ordered the wagyu curry and pork tonkatsu curry. These were solid but did not have the "wow" factor that I'm used to with Chubby restaurants. Everything was very fresh and cooked quickly (again, we were the only patrons in the restaurant). Ended up paying about $100 with tax and tip for these 3 dishes. For that price, I would rather go to one of the AYCE Chubby restaurants. Our server offered recommendations for our meal and helped us order. Last month, we dined at Chubby Curry in Beverly Hills. A family friend recommended this place, so we tried it out and explored the area as well. There's mostly paid parking nearby. When we arrived at around 7pm on Saturday, there were a couple of parties dining and we were seated quickly. The restaurant has a casual vibe and fun anime decor, including a wall of figurines. The service was minimal and fine. We ordered on the tablet at our table and interacted with our server when bringing the food and presenting the bill. I chose the Tonkatsu Kare at medium spice ($23). The plate was nearly overflowing with curry, and the medium spice was a slow burn heat for me. The small side of cabbage salad was fresh, but it was drenched in dressing. Went for DineLA lunch and had both offerings, the tonkatsu ramen with okra tofu and wagyu hamburger with waffle fries. Service was well paced with the first course arriving in a few minutes followed by the main. We didn't have high expectations for the cold tofu and okra but it was delicious and the tofu soaked up the soy based sauce and was balanced by the slight crunchiness of the okra. The waffle fries were exceptional - double fried with a curry aioli sauce. The tonkatsu and ramen were also great. The tonkatsu had a light, crispy batter and the ramen was so delicious, with the addition of corn, peas, black fungus and bamboo shoots, truly comforting. The burger was a hit, too. Juicy and flavorful. The small details here didn't go unnoticed, the unique plates, nice bamboo chopsticks and cute hippo candy plate. We chose to sit in front by the open windows since it was such a nice afternoon but the dining area further inside was welcoming, too. I had high hopes for Chubby Curry, but the experience was pretty mixed. The biggest issue was the portion size for the price. My curry don was $18 and it came out on what looked like an appetizer-sized tray. For that price, I definitely expected a more filling portion. It felt more like a snack than a full meal, which was disappointing. As for the taste, it was fine--nothing bad, but nothing memorable either. The curry was decent and the food was cooked well, just not something that made me think, "I can't wait to come back for this." If the portions matched the price, I'd probably feel very differently about this place. Right now, it feels overpriced for what you get. We stopped by on Friday after work to give Chubby Curry a try. Once arrived we greeted and seated right away. We were they ones there at that time. So service and food came out in a timely manner. Ordering was simple on the IPAD. We ordered the following: Pork Tonkatsu ( Side Order) - The pork loin was moist and tender. The crispy panko wasn't your typical Japanese style but it was nice a very crispy. Wagyu Beef Curry- We got the Curry at spice level 3 which was their highest. The Curry was very flavorful and had a nice kick. The only complaint was that it didn't have enough beef. It was more potatoes and carrots. Pretty famous Japanese curry house in Los Angeles. We stopped by for dinner and hsve to wait a bit. The interior is nice and the restaurant is kind of open concept where there is no door to get in. The menu is simple with various type of meat and curry. The one caught our eyes was the roast duck curry. It is limited and the most expensive item on the menu. Since we are here we ordered it. I ordered the Chicken curry and I'm glad I did because the portion was super filling. The chicken was very tender and the thickness of the chicken is generous! I like that it comes with rice, salad, daikon radish, and a side of Miso soup! The curry sauce was good and the flavor reminds you of homemade curry! Service was very fast and attentive. Cute Japanese restaurant with lots of Japanese decor. I came on a Saturday night at 5pm specifically for their duck curry which is a "10 day dry-aged duck with sake infused curry". The server was super helpful and accommodating, but the duck curry wasn't actually available until 6pm although it is advertised as available after 5pm. I recommend calling if this is what you are coming for. roasted duck curry ($60): 9.1/10. The portion is huge and definitely meant for two people. They give a large portion of duck (I think half the duck is served). It's given as slices, as the wing, and with plenty of duck pieces in the curry! As appetizer, we decided to try the Wagyu Soup Dumpling (XLB) - while it was good, there was no soup and definitely didn't taste like wagyu. Onto the mains - friend got Oyakodon (chicken donburi) with Chicken katsu and me, the Pork katsu with curry (which they call "kare"). Chubby curry is such a great Japanese spot in Beverly Hills. I have been multiple times and it's been solid every single time. It has a very casual atmosphere you order via iPads and the food comes out fairly fast. You don't really deal with the waiter or waitress as they just bring you the food once you order from the iPad. "Almost" partially because there's always room for more duck LOL The duck curry was sweeter than the wagyu beef curry ($23). And came with sides like seaweed salad and cucumber salad. It also had a small dish of red ginger, but the table already has a cup of them for additional self service. The duck meat was very tender and flavorful on its own or with the house made sauce, which had a fruity taste. The curry itself also had bits and pieces of duck inside. Honestly, even if your dining alone, consider the duck curry. It's my biased opinion but it's so far the best Chubby Curry item and I have tried both this and the Covina location. The wagyu soup dumplings (3pc for $6) is alright; can be skipped. Wagyu beef curry was nice but could use more beef. There were anime figures all around inside and it's fun to look for a try spotting a fav character. Lastly, this restaurant is open "doors" so you can get fresh air and see out into the streets. However, there were people smoking outside and unfortunately the smell drifted in... Perhaps there's not a lot the restaurant can do except put a fan at the entrance (or ask ppl to not smoke right next to the restaurant), but it did semi bother the dining experience. read more

DINELA Review only My friends and I absolutely loved their 2025 DineLA menu!! I believe we paid $35 and it included their milk tea, miso soup, 6Pc wagyu dumplings and a main. My friends mostly chose the Beef Wagyu Curry but I went with the Gyu-Don. The Gyu-Don reminded me of an elevated Yoshinaga beef bowl, which I loved! There was sooo much food, we each brought to-go boxes home and another friend ordered food for their partner. For the food: Chubby Curry Steak Rice Bowl has the best of both worlds: Wagyu Curry + Wagyu Steak. Every bite was umami heaven. The beef steak was generous, juicy steak slices seared beautifully, over rice and curry. It got that modern Japanese café vibe but with serious flavor power. We were not ready for how good the Wagyu Burger was. This might be one of the best burgers my husband has had in LA. The patty was perfectly charred, thick, juicy, and rich, with caramelized onions and curry aioli melting into a pillowy brioche bun. I'd come back for this alone. And finally, the waffle fries with curry aioli--crispy, golden, hard to stop eating. The curry aioli had the perfect amount of kick and creaminess. The staff was super kind, and even though it's in Beverly Hills, the place has a chill, neighborhood feel. Bright, clean, and easygoing. Was looking for somewhere to eat near the Beverley Hills area while visiting LA and came across this place. Looking at the menu and photos I knew I had to come get the Chubby Curry Wagyu Rice Bowl. That egg on top of the rice was perfection and the flavors were spot on. The Wagyu Steak bowl is mostly the same thing but without the extra wagyu beef curry. Chubby Curry was tasty. I enjoyed my Chicken Katsu Curry, I tried a bite of the Wagyu Curry which was also pretty good. We took a Wagyu burger to go, it traveled well and it was our favorite out of the three things we tried. I'd go back again but I can't say this is my favorite curry spot in LA. I still like the concept of the authentic Japanese curry without the chili oil and more of the tsukemono that goes so well with it. If you ask for more of the red tsukemono, there is an extra charge. Service was just ok, I'm not sure if lunch time is less staffed but if I had to go back to work, it would be considered way too slow. You know how in the early 90's how a waitress would come to your table and then put down this little foldable table and everyone would get their food at the same time. This place does the exact opposite of that. I guess I am being a little harsh here, since it's more common now-a-days but it really did mess with the timing of everything. They would bring out each curry dish one at a time, and by the time our 6th person got their food, the 1st person was already done.... The curry itself is mid. It's very mild and doesn't have a lot of flavor. They do have some spices you can manually add to the curry, but all in all, the curry was very one-dimensional. I tried the duck and the wagyu hambugu. The hamburger was much better. The duck was decent, but was not fall off the bone. It's actually quite hard to get some pieces off the bone with only chop sticks and a spoon. A knife would've helped us cut the meat off. I was really looking forward to trying the duck, and although I did enjoy it, didn't think it was very special. The food prices aren't that high, and are fine for the area. Some people at my table ordered beers and those were $10 for a 12oz can of beer. I give them 3.5 stars, but Yelp only' lets me do 3... P.S. Wow! I came here since I happened to be in the neighborhood and I was so impressed! The curry truly lives up to the franchise's name and it was probably the best curry I've had so far!! The chicken was juicy and also very crispy and not oily/and greasy. It was perfect. The spice level also was good!!! The chirashi bowl was also incredible quality fish! It absolutely melts in your mouth with every bite. We also got the mushroom side which was also a good little treat. Similar to other chubby chains, you order via tablet and the food comes soon afterwards :) This is more of an intimate dining experience and I loved the decor and decorations around the restaurant. A nice and casual dining room that opens to the street (but they zip close when it gets cold at night). The curry emphasizes curry flavor over heat--just the way I like. Love the balance of sweet and savory. Our group tried their roasted duck curry available only on weekends. Great presentation on a platter. It's half a duck (so tender & juicy) on top of what feels like a bucket of curry and steamed rice! Enough for four with some appetizers. Stonepot Wagyu Hamburg was a thrill as it comes screaming hot and sizzling. And it comes with a generous helping of curry sauce for you to add as you like. The Chicken Katsu Kate was also pleasant. The seaweed topped waffle fries and wagyu dumplings made nice starters. Staff are busy but friendly. Convenient parking lot across the street. Would come back on the next curry craving! read more

Food was great with nice ambiance. Will say that there was a customer who was antagonizing the staff and it was handled appropriately. I felt so bad for the server trying to protect his staff as the entitled customer was attempting to harass the kitchen staff. I watched the whole thing unfold and it's so hard to watch how customers treat staff inhumanly and believe they're above all else. They tried to be kind to the guest who refused to wait and kept demanding for their order and sitting at the bar area. If you're ordering such a delicate meal like wagyu I don't think you should be expecting a quick to-go order. Probably should be going to a fast food restaurant if you're expecting speedy food during lunch hour on a weekend. That waiter was the only server for the day and was cleaning all the tables taking orders and doing take out. Not sure if they were short staffed due to illness but either way he was definitely trying his best and very kind. It was unfortunate to see the kind human get mistreated like that. I was so excited to eat at Chubby Curry. It's on Restaurant Row in Beverly Hills. Lots of things to eat and do there. If you have a mindset of what curry should taste like, or/and if you have a favorite curry restaurant, you may not like this. You have to have an open mind and an open pallet. I could've sworn I tasted tomatoes sauce in their recipe. I liked it, didn't love it. I'll pass Cubby Curry for Curry House or Ichibanya. Those places are not as trendy, and taste more authentic. I LOVE curry. Especially Japanese and Thai curries. The girlfriend surprised me with Chubby Curry during the Dine LA experience. I was absolutely walking on cloud 9 with each bite. Just beware, Chubby Curry lives up to its name and will bring you back down to earth for a nice long nap. Joking aside, Chubby Curry may very well be the best curry I've ever experienced. It was rich, flavorfull, and packed with protein and veggies. We ordered each item from the Dine LA menu and were blown away by the variety. The curries waffle fries were perfectly fried and came with a curries dipping sauce. Took every up a notnotch. Several yuzu items to order.I love yuzu! Service was incredible. Our waitress was super accommodating and even got us extra yuzu mochi ice cream. Shh! The ambiance is nerdy, lots of anime, and very comfortable seating. This is my kinda place! 10/10 delicious food I came here with my friend who loves curry and she said the curry here is better than many curry restaurants she tried in Japan! If you come here, I would recommend ordering the fries and any of the curries (you cant go wrong with any of them)!
