Went for DineLA lunch and had both offerings, the tonkatsu ramen with okra tofu and wagyu hamburger with waffle fries. Service was well paced with the first course arriving in a few minutes followed by the main. We didn't have high expectations for the cold tofu and okra but it was delicious and the tofu soaked up the soy based sauce and was balanced by the slight crunchiness of the okra. The waffle fries were exceptional - double fried with a curry aioli sauce. The tonkatsu and ramen were also great. The tonkatsu had a light, crispy batter and the ramen was so delicious, with the addition of corn, peas, black fungus and bamboo shoots, truly comforting. The burger was a hit, too. Juicy and flavorful. The small details here didn't go unnoticed, the unique plates, nice bamboo chopsticks and cute hippo candy plate. We chose to sit in front by the open windows since it was such a nice afternoon but the dining area further inside was welcoming, too. I am a Chubby Club Plus member and have high expectations for Chubby restaurants. They have always been so impressive, but unfortunately, Chubby Curry did not meet our high expectations and was slightly disappointing tbh. I came this past Wednesday for a late lunch around 2PM. I was surprised to see that the restaurant was empty, since I'm used to waiting ~1 hour for Chubby restaurants. The restaurant has a lot of anime decorations around, with a lot of Demon Slayer figurines and posters decorating the place. Huge fan. We ordered the DineLA lunch which includes wagyu hamburger + waffle fries + drink for $25. Love the curry waffle fries with the curry seasoning on it. The wagyu burger was comparable to what is served at the AYCE Chubby Cattle/Wagyu Master restaurants. They are bigger and slightly more elevated in flavor though. We also ordered the wagyu curry and pork tonkatsu curry. These were solid but did not have the "wow" factor that I'm used to with Chubby restaurants. Everything was very fresh and cooked quickly (again, we were the only patrons in the restaurant). Ended up paying about $100 with tax and tip for these 3 dishes. Last month, we dined at Chubby Curry in Beverly Hills. A family friend recommended this place, so we tried it out and explored the area as well. There's mostly paid parking nearby. When we arrived at around 7pm on Saturday, there were a couple of parties dining and we were seated quickly. The restaurant has a casual vibe and fun anime decor, including a wall of figurines. The service was minimal and fine. We ordered on the tablet at our table and interacted with our server when bringing the food and presenting the bill. I chose the Tonkatsu Kare at medium spice ($23). The plate was nearly overflowing with curry, and the medium spice was a slow burn heat for me. The small side of cabbage salad was fresh, but it was drenched in dressing. My curry don was $18 and it came out on what looked like an appetizer-sized tray. For that price, I definitely expected a more filling portion. It felt more like a snack than a full meal, which was disappointing. As for the taste, it was fine--nothing bad, but nothing memorable either. The curry was decent and the food was cooked well, just not something that made me think, "I can't wait to come back for this." The crispy panko wasn't your typical Japanese style but it was nice a very crispy. Wagyu Beef Curry- We got the Curry at spice level 3 which was their highest. Pretty famous Japanese curry house in Los Angeles. We stopped by for dinner and hsve to wait a bit. The interior is nice and the restaurant is kind of open concept where there is no door to get in. The menu is simple with various type of meat and curry. The one caught our eyes was the roast duck curry. It is limited and the most expensive item on the menu. Since we are here we ordered it. The server was super helpful and accommodating, but the duck curry wasn't actually available until 6pm although it is advertised as available after 5pm. I recommend calling if this is what you are coming for. roasted duck curry ($60): 9.1/10. The portion is huge and definitely meant for two people. There were anime figures all around inside and it's fun to look for a try spotting a fav character. Lastly, this restaurant is open "doors" so you can get fresh air and see out into the streets. You know how in the early 90's how a waitress would come to your table and then put down this little foldable table and everyone would get their food at the same time. This place does the exact opposite of that. I guess I am being a little harsh here, since it's more common now-a-days but it really did mess with the timing of everything. They would bring out each curry dish one at a time, and by the time our 6th person got their food, the 1st person was already done.... The curry itself is mid. It's very mild and doesn't have a lot of flavor. They do have some spices you can manually add to the curry, but all in all, the curry was very one-dimensional. I tried the duck and the wagyu hambugu. The hamburger was much better. The duck was decent, but was not fall off the bone. It's actually quite hard to get some pieces off the bone with only chop sticks and a spoon. A knife would've helped us cut the meat off. I was really looking forward to trying the duck, and although I did enjoy it, didn't think it was very special. The food prices aren't that high, and are fine for the area. Some people at my table ordered beers and those were $10 for a 12oz can of beer. I give them 3.5 stars, but Yelp only' lets me do 3... P.S. Food was great with nice ambiance. Will say that there was a customer who was antagonizing the staff and it was handled appropriately. I felt so bad for the server trying to protect his staff as the entitled customer was attempting to harass the kitchen staff. They tried to be kind to the guest who refused to wait and kept demanding for their order and sitting at the bar area. If you're ordering such a delicate meal like wagyu I don't think you should be expecting a quick to-go order.
