This place was so good! They are making food well above what the price is. Definitely coming back soon hungry for more.

    Vegan curry mazemen
    Melanie G.

Came on a Monday around noon and was able to be seated right away. Service was a little slow and not super attentive. I got the vegan curry mazemen ($1 extra charge for vegan). Interestingly, it came with a pico de gallo which I've never seen fused for mazemen. I still prefer traditional flavors for mazemen. But the flavors were good and plentiful. The curry, green onions and chili all worked together well. I liked the noodles because they were thick and chewy/bouncy. In mazemen fashion, they do offer a small portion of rice to eat after with what's left!

Wanted to try a different spot on Sawtelle so we dined at Menya Tigre! This spot is more well known for their curry dishes (and they also serve fresh karaage which my friend loved). I opted for what seems to be a limited edition red ramen, since it was on a poster in store instead of the main menu. Overall it was good, but I think I would've liked more flavor and heat and I definitely would not choose it over other ramen spots in Sawtelle. However the staff was super friendly, service is quick, there was no line, and there is both indoor and outdoor seating. Good option if other spots are too busy or you want several different options to choose from (chicken, curry, ramen) for your group.

DO NOT order takeout. I picked up a karrage chicken Kurry for $22 and it was one of the most disappointing places I've picked up to go from. 5 nuggets for $22 is absolutely ridiculous. It was stale and just rubbery.

Pretty good mazemen. My typical go-to for mazemen was closed on a Monday so popped into Menya for a bite Service was prompt and helpful and the place was fairly cozy. They have a nice outdoor patio if temperatures are accommodating I ordered mine without the pico de gallo or corn, as those ingredients lended a more fusion taste that I wasn't particularly seeking. I'd probably return just to try the curry dishes

Definitely need to try their ramen and ANZU karate joint! FOOD 4/5 Pork cutlet was thin, flavorful, and love how there's zero fat on it. The curry was good but not my fav ULTIMATE TSUKEMEN (Pork Cutlet)- ・100% Chicken Broth With House Blend Curry ・2 Pieces Pork Cutlet ・Soft Boiled Egg ・Bonito Flavor ・Menma , Green Onion CHASHU TSUKEMEN - Was suppose to come with 4 pieces but we only have (1 total) as shown on the picture on their site. ・100% Chicken Broth With House Blend Curry ・4 Pieces Chashu Pork ・Soft Boiled Egg ・Bonito Flavor ・Menma , Green Onion PARKING 3/5 Always tough finding parking on Sawtelle and within the perimeter CUSTOMER SERVICE 4/5 Standard attentive service, no issues. Ambience was clean.

Menya TIGRE has some nice curry ramen, and I visited to try their Curry Chashu Ramen. Service was average (as expected), with a simple sit down, take order, and check slip. I was sat at the bar, which featured hard metal chairs and a wooden counter. The first bite of chashu in the Chashu Ramen was tasty, reminding me of a charcoal grill and a nice texture. Their curry broth is thick and fatty - unique in that it was though very salty. The salt was enough to cut through the chashu after a few minutes, instantly making it less enjoyable. Their egg was also not quite soft-boiled, and the texture though not overcooked left some more to be desired.

Chashu Curry Ramen + Takoyaki + Keema Noodle
    Tien H.

The Keema Mazemen is a sleeper hit on Sawtelle! If you haven't had it, it's the soupless ramen that is an absolute flavor bomb! The shredded chilli peppers and corn add a great texture that you don't usually get in a standard bowl of ramen Service: fast and efficient. It's a tiny spot so you can usually snag a seat way quicker than the spots nearby.

Definitely yummy and slightly different than tsujita. Got the curry, but would prefer tsukemen as the noodles were thicker. Chasu was soft, tasty, and quite filling. Yes the karage was good.

I'm still thinking about this restaurant as I write this. It was that good!!! I went with a friend during lunch. The restaurant inside was packed, but we were seated outside, which worked out perfectly. Everything on the menu looked amazing, but I went with the pork katsu curry and WOW... it was mouthwatering. I also loved the fried spicy garlic crisps on the table... I was this close to pouring the whole container in haha. My friend ordered the chashu curry ramen and couldn't stop raving about how soft and tender the pork was. I'm already counting down the days until I'm back in LA so I can come here again. Parking was a bit tricky, but we found a neighborhood nearby and walked over, totally worth it.

one of the better ramen spots i've tried. i'm not a huge fan of chashu usually but this one really surprised me and tasted a bit smokey. i loved the other toppings in the ramen as well as the rich curry broth. highly recommend!

    Keema Noodle
    Lisa P.

The takoyaki was delicious and perfect! The keema noodle bowl was kinda sucky and white washed. No reason to put corn or pico de gallo ruined it and also I thought the egg would be soft boiled so it can melt in with the sauce. Sadly the pico de gallo contrasted with the noodles and it should've been just union chives and seaweed. They also took quite a while to serve us. Inside did not have much seating.

Menya TIGRE is a restaurant that I've been wanting to try ever since it opened. However, due to an abundance of other excellent dining options in the immediate area, I always seemed to end up somewhere else when visiting the Sawtelle neighborhood. That said, I'm happy I finally decided to stop in here to check out their food this past Saturday. It did not disappoint. We arrived around 4:45pm for an early dinner. This is probably one of the best times to visit the area, as there were no lines at any of the restaurants on Sawtelle Blvd. To eat, I ordered the Curry Tsukemen, priced around $16.80. Service was quick and efficient. While I thoroughly enjoyed the noodles and curry/broth, the chashu admittedly was not the best. I thought the portion could have been a little bigger, as well. Still, I would recommend Menya TIGRE as a solid dining option worth trying.

The fried rice was also a standout and paired perfectly with the meal. Service was great from start to finish. The staff was attentive, friendly, and kept everything moving despite how busy it was. All the workers answered my questions and even as the dinner rush came in, I never felt like I was pressured to hurry up. Huge kudos to them for this. There are lots of places to get ramen in Little Tokyo and I have my go to places, but now that so many other ramen places are popping up in the 626, the daunting task of driving to DTLA and finding parking have also factored into my decision to wander out. But as a J-fashion and anime fan, I'm just constantly thrown back into the Little Tokyo vortex. For this recent visit, I remember my friend hyping up the Anaheim Rakkan Ramen, so I thought why not? Came a bit later into the dinner rush, around 6-something PM and was seated immediately as a solo diner on a Friday night. It started to get a bit busier around the time I was finishing up. Seating is a bit tight inside with a couple of tables, counter bar seating, but they do have outdoors seating as well. Food came out efficiently and super piping hot. For my dinner, I got the: 1) Coffee Jelly: -One of my favorite, comforting Japanese desserts. If a bakery has it, I'll order it, and I felt a bit indulgent so I ordered it then. Staff asked if I wanted to have it at the end or just have it come out ASAP. I said ASAP and it was a good palate cleanser between the savory and sweet so I didn't get tired of the flavor. Not a super huge amount of coffee jelly (but makes sense since this is a restaurant and not a to go ordering counter at a bakery), but it was silky and had a good coffee flavor to it. You get a small "shot" of heavy cream milk to mix in and you can control how sweet you want it. Not bad. 2) Ramen Sushi Combo (Spicy Quartz Ramen + Aburi Salmon): -This comes with any signature ramen and any 2 pieces of sushi (extra fee for any upgrades) -I got their spicy quartz ramen, which is their creamy miso broth ramen made with your choice of chicken or pork chashu (I got pork), crispy fried garlic, seasoned egg, fried broccolini, and 2 pieces of nori. -There's LOTS of crispy fried garlic pieces in it. Every bite has a slight garlic after taste and it's nice to add a bit of crunchy texture to the ramen. -The broccolini is unique, I don't think I've ever had that with a ramen before and it's nice to have some greens too. - It's a seasoned egg, not a soft boiled egg, so don't expect that. It's not hard boiled all the way, but the flavor wasn't super strong for the egg. Not bad, but not the best. -The noodles are thicker egg noodles that had a nice chew and texture to it. However, the broth flavor wasn't that strong to me? If that makes sense. You get a good taste of creamy miso and a very slight kick, but I felt like the 2 small pieces of chashu and noodles didn't really take the flavor of the broth that well. Maybe I should have left my bowl of ramen soaking longer to get a better taste profile? Who knows. 3) Aburi Salmon (2 pieces): -I chose this with my combo and it doesn't incur an extra free. It's a seared salmon with mayo on top. -Not bad. Can never go wrong with aburi salmon. It's comparable to what you can get from Kura. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing or maybe my taste buds have been blasted by ramen spots with heavier, flavor intensive broths like Tenkaippin and Nagi. I don't mind going if someone else invites me and hopefully it's a better experience.

I have a picture of my brother eating here in middle school with us and then later on in his early 20's. Crazy time lapse, and truly shows what a favorite this place is and it's place in the community. As with all businesses in Little Tokyo, parking can suck (not as bad as K-town, but you're either paying or super circling around). Service is super efficient, welcoming and polite, as with their other locations as well. It's not the biggest restaurant, but none of the Shinsengumis I've been to have been particularly large. With this location, from my first visit, and all the subsequent visits, I always get their Hakata ramen, firmer noodles, since the longer I eat and enjoy the food, they'll soften a bit, less soup oil and less saltiness. I get all of the toppings that it comes with and I always add in a poached egg. Love the strong pork flavor since they stew their broth for so long and the tenderness of the chashu (sometimes I order more). Prices have definitely gone up and a slightly altered upgraded version of this ramen is almost $30 if you're not careful enough. Times have changed but how good this place hasn't. There's more ramen options now than there were like 10 years ago, but Shinsengumi is always a classic.

Also got a yuzu beer to try and it was delicious, nice yuzu flavor with some tanginess. I had the shoyu with duck while my husband had the yama tonkotsu that came with fragrant black garlic oil. The tonkotsu is not one of those rich, milky, creamy ones and I personally like these lighter ones more. I also enjoyed the shoyu which had a pleasant depth of flavor, but it felt like it was relying too heavily on MSG for umami. Noodles came out chewy. Definitely not the best ramens I've had but are some of the better ones in LA. Our server was friendly, as were the rest of the staff. Service was quick. The restaurant decor feels straight out of Japan, an extra bit of fun. There's a $10 paid lot behind this block of buildings that's convenient for anything in this part of Little Tokyo.

FOOD: I ordered the spicy pork tsukemen ($23.45), which is their dipping noodle. The noodles are thicker than standard ramen, but in a good way! It comes with thick chashu (thick, fatty pork) slices and soft boiled eggs. If you haven't had tsukemen before, you essentially dip your noodles into the broth and then eat it that way. The broth is extremely flavorful and there are also pieces of chashu in it as well. The only critique that I have regarding this is the broth was lukewarm which made the dish taste slightly off. I've tried this dish at another branch and the broth was also lukewarm there, so I'm not sure if this is a location issue or a standard amongst all branches. Also, this dish does not really have any vegetables in this, but I also don't know if traditional tsukemen has veggies included. SERVICE: Service was quick and everyone was nice and doing their job. Didn't seem like the staff was slacking or messing around while there weren't many customers. They were very attentive to us, refilling our water immediately once they saw it was getting low, and being very attentive towards if we had any other concerns or if we needed anything else. PARKING: There technically is street parking but since it's in Little Tokyo, it's going to be very difficult to find it. There's $4-6 valet parking available nearby the location. There are a lot of people walking around though so just be safe. INTERIOR: It's not too big of a place but it's also not too small as well. It looks very well kept and clean. BATHROOM: Two gender neutral bathroom stalls that are both very clean and accessible. No issues here with them. TLDR: Overall, I thought the place was pretty good to eat at! I would definitely come back for the tsukemen (as long as the broth is warmed up until it's hot). A very good dish combined with great music (they have some great Japanese music variety) is definitely a spot worth coming to with friends !! :))
