We had an excellent experience at Chubby Curry. We ordered the Wagyu curry, a side of chicken tonkatsu, and the curry fries. Every dish was fantastic, full of flavor, and the portion sizes were generous. Shoutout to our server Jose, who was awesome and took great care of us. The cook that night also deserves recognition because everything came out perfectly cooked. read more

Visited on a whim and was surprised! Super tasty, we got the Wagyu rice bowl was flavorful and tender. The curry fries were possibly the most flavorful dish of the day. The katsu plates were crispy and juicy at the same time! Very homey food in an inviting and cool space! I think we'd skip the cream udon as it was a bit heavy and didn't have very much flavor. But overall a very fun spot to go with friends or a cute date if anyone is still trying for that in this day and age lol. Will def be back for the duck curry! read more

Came here around 5pm on a Friday with my friend and was seated right away. We ordered the katsu curry which came in a reasonable amount of time. The curry was really creamy/smooth with vegetables, and had an interesting taste!! It reminded me of almost a pumpkin-y taste. It was not spicy at all and was overall really delicious. The meat was also a standout--the pork katsu was really soft and juicy. It was a little on the rare side with a lot of fatty parts, but personally I found it okay. The meal is a little on the pricier side but it made for a second meal. My only downside would be that the meat was a little heavy and there doesn't seem to be many workers, so it may take a little time for your food to come out. read more

I'm not certain why this place is so highly rated. It's a fast casual restaurant with tons of seating but that's basically where the pros of this place ends. The server didn't know what cuts of meat were present in these two bowls though he did recommend the wagyu specialties. The curry flavor was decent and had a little bit of kick to it but it felt like swallowing a mouthful of salt. There were very few wagyu pieces in the curry and the few that were in there were unremarkable. The steak bowl was better in the sense that it wasn't overly salty and flavor of the chili crisps was good. However, the meat was a little tough to chew - something I feel you shouldn't be able to say with any cut of wagyu. Overall, I wouldn't come back. I've had better curry from a box at the supermarket. read more

Chubby Curry - wagyu steak donburi bowl and wagyu beef curry - Japanese Curry Near Me - Beverly Hills, California

Staff is nice at this casual eater but also almost non existent as they hand you an iPad to order from so no proper waiter. Pricing and portions are fair. Ambiance is casual and wooden with some views of the dry aging poultry from the inside. Indoor and outdoor seating. Don't waste your time with the curry or chicken katsu as it is average at best. The best items include the waffle fries and the wagyu burger which is saving them from being an average 3 star review. read more

Don't get me wrong, I have been enjoying places like Chubby Cattle and Mikiya and I can't wait to try the other Chubby restaurants. Chubby Curry was okay and it may have seemed a bit overhyped. First off, this location is in LA so just know the parking can be horrible. Next, the restaurant is decently sized but can get packed right away. They do have reservations so I recommend getting one right away. The ambiance is chill with Japanese vibes, especially with the figurines all over the place. For the food, we had their chicken katsu curry, the wagyu rice bowl, and the beef curry. Each were decently sized and split between three people. The tastes were good but I was expecting more of that curry taste. It wasn't bland, but it just needed to be a bit more flavorful. The dumplings were also okay but weren't like "omg I need to order these again." The fries were decent too and be careful with one of their sauces as it can be spicy. All in all, we enjoyed the food we got but it wasn't so amazing that we would drive out again to LA for this. Side note: if you're looking to order their duck curry, we got there at 5:30PM (they don't start serving this dish until 5PM) and they were already sold out. They stated they only had five for that day. read more

Finally made the trek across Los Angeles to Chubby Curry in Beverly Hills to see Chefs Shin and Liga in the kitchen cooking up some scrumptious food! I held off on eating too much food because I really really wanted to wait to devour the roasted duck entree which came out last.. but I couldn't hold out. First off, I am not a fries gal, but the curry fries here are SO addicting paired with the aioli sauce that is provided with it. We almost finished the whole plate of waffle fries.. I think 2 pieces made it to the togo box. The curry here is made with love, from scratch -- this is definitely not boxed curry sauce and is much lighter in spices than typical Japanese curry that we are accustomed to. We had the Wagyu Beef Curry which was full of large chunks of wagyu that had soaked in all the flavors of the curry sauce. I ordered a side of grilled maitake mushroom which has a nice meatiness to it, which pairs very well with the curry. BF ordered the wagyu steak rice bowl, which was topped with a lovely soft egg and butter and a sprinkle of fried toasted garlic and yakiniku sauce. I only had a bite but the toasted garlic definitely adds a nice crunch and flavor to the entire dish. Our last dish was the roasted duck.. we ate all of the delicious dry aged roasted duck breast but ate too many fries (and bf ate most of his wagyu steak rice bowl).. we didn't even make it to the curry or the duck confit (or even the rice!)-- so lots of leftovers to go. But I enjoyed every bite I did eat at the restaurant, the skin has a nice roast to it and just the right amount of fat on the breast. So good.. Next time I'm order two.. Highly recommend this place to anyone in the area, the prices are super reasonable, the food is delicious - and I can only hope that a version of that duck makes it to their Covina location when it opens. PS the yuzu mochi is sooo good. read more

Came here the other day after failing miserably at an escape room. Needed some comfort food and it definitely felt comfortable. We had a reservation so we were seated immediately, though there were plenty of seats available at 9pm. Something fun, at the table, they have UNO to play while you wait for your food. Great way to pass the time and lose friends while doing it! To ease our pain of the escape room, we started with some curry Fries, which are waffle fries with a curry dipping sauce. The curry flavor was on point and the fries hit the spot. For entrees, we tried a little of everything. The buffalo chicken sando had a good amount of chicken, especially in ratio to the bun, and while being good, didn't really stand out in any way. The Chubby Curry was very thoughtful with the wagyu beef being cooked well. The chicken katsu kare also had a nice flavor, though the breaded chicken was just that, breaded chicken. Overall, there were good flavors at Chubby Curry for sure, especially when you can get curry at many places all over Los Angeles. But, if you're in the area, and have a craving for curry, definitely stop by read more

Chubby Curry is another concept from the Chubby group that specializes in some masterfully crafted Japanese inspired curry! This spot is located in Beverly Hills where there is street parking all around. Reservations are highly recommended as they tend to get pretty packed during peak hours. Wifey and I had dinner reservations at 6pm and were seated right away upon arrival. Inside, they have some cool and playful anime figurines alongside their modern and dimly lit interior. They have seating indoors and outdoors with about 9-12 tables for seating. They have an extensive menu of different curry dishes, sandwiches, burgers, and fries. Wifey and I got a spread of their Curry Fries, Wagyu Burger, Roasted Duck Curry, and Sparkling Uji Matcha White Strawberry Drink. Everything we had was beyond flavorful and delicious! Keep in mind that you can only order the limited Roasted Duck Curry during dinner time on weekends so I would definitely recommend getting that if you can. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our date night here at Chubby Curry. All of the staff here are very friendly and accommodating. I will be thinking of that roasted duck curry for a while! We definitely left feeling pretty chubby but also happy! read more

The service was excellent and our waiter was friendly with plenty of information regarding the food and service. The interior was roomy with plenty of space for seating, but the place filled up as time went by so it's a good idea to make a reservation for the peak dining hours. The food is actually really good except the curry. Surprisingly the curry was the most lackluster part of the meal with the quality tasting not as tasteful as curry you can purchase from Asian supermarkets. The texture of the curry was ok but it really was nothing special. I give this place 4 stars for the rest of the food as the beef, the chicken, the butter and eggs were delicious and cooked extremely well. The meat was tender, had rich flavor, and cooked amazingly. I need to try their other dishes next time but hopefully I can give a 5 in the future. 4/5 read more

The broccoli was the best broccoli I've ever had. I know it's just broccoli but they knew what they were doing. The burger was really amazing. I loved every bite. Was quite excited for this place and i really really try to like it. But it's not easy to find compliment for such an 'okay' experience. The katsu portion is good, though i wish a more juicy chicken and hopefully the bottom batter is as crispy as the top batter for other customers. Would love more punch on the kare, and the mild flavor on it i think is friendly for first timers. The wagyu soup dumpling is the safest soup dumplings ever because the soup will not burst out with flavor, it's just 'there' with the wagyu that i might have lack experience to understand the depth on it on a soup dumpling. Service was commendable, it's fast and the ambience is perfect if you want something different in beverly hills. read more

Yummy yummy yummy! First time here but it definitely won't be my last! Went with my husband and we had the curry fries, I had the Wagyu rice bowl, and he had the Wagyu curry! Everything was absolutely delicious. In fact I liked my dish so much I started eating before I could take a pic! Also the pic of the curry fries is AFTER we started eating them. Our server was great and welcomed us immediately with two large glasses of water and with this heatwave that was appreciated beyond belief! The ambiance is cute it's a Japanese anime style curry house. Great place for a date, a meeting, a small group of friends, basically anything! They also have a Mobile App and since I downloaded and signed up for an account there they gave me 10% off! Didn't even know that would happen, we liked the food so much that I figured we'd be back and I might as well download their app! Highly recommend. read more

Chubby Curry - Partially eaten curry fries! - Japanese Curry Near Me - Beverly Hills, California

visited saturday for dinner and there were only a few other groups dining in. we chose to sit closer inside since the street smelled a little. the surrounding area is metered street parking. service was fast and friendly! - wagyu beef curry (4/5): curry was solid and had good flavor with a decent amount of meat/potatoes/carrots. you can't adjust the spice, but they have chili oil which i really liked, as well as pickled veg on the table. overall the curry was good but i don't really feel like it was worth the price, nor was it anything special hence the 3 stars. would go back and try their other items if a friend wanted to though read more

The donkatsu was just ok and nothing to write home about. Plus the curry lacked the proper pungency. The fries was quite salty; as such, I rarely dipped them in the curry dip provided. The dish I thought was interesting was the stone pot wagyu burgu. The burger patty came seared and fairly rare inside. But because the pot was super hot once the patty was broken up it continued to cook until almost well done. The hot stone pot also yielded a crunchy crust, or socarrat. I'd order again. read more

Curry was mid compared to the flavor and fragrance at Coco Ichi. The sauces (Kamikaze) and the sauce used to dip the curry fries were DELECTABLE, however. Cucumber salad was solid, as was the miso soup though it was lacking a little bit of umph Ambiance and friendliness of the servers, albeit a little slow on that DineLA Friday evening. Well worth a try for $25 a tasting menu though. read more

My friend had a Groupon for two, so I got to join her. We each got a curry and a side for roughly $14 each! We each tried the Chubby Curry. We both didn't like it very much because of the cocoa. I think I would have preferred a more savory Japanese curry flavor. The chicken katsu was the best. The gyoza were good, but I wouldn't have been able to tell if it was really wagyu ?? Maybe the wagyu burger is the thing to get here, ironically. Service was mid. The poor guy was working the front all alone. Parking is $3-6 in the structure across the street. It's not really worth coming all the way out to Beverly Hills for this. read more

My daughter and I decided to try this place out after an appointment in Beverly Hills. It had literally been years since I spent time in this area so it was fun to walk through the streets. So much has changed! This is a smallish restaurant with a hipster vibe. Great service and the menu is fantastic. We had a hard time choosing just a couple things. Settled on the Chubby Curry wagyu plate, curry fries, miso soup, and cucumber salad. Everything was delicious! Definitely recommend and can't wait to go back and try more! read more

Incredibly delicious! My friend and I had dinner here after an appointment we had nearby. We visited on a Tuesday evening and it was not too busy. The place is spacious and it is decorated very nicely. The food is SO good, I will definitely be going back! We got started with some curry fries. I highly recommend these fries, they are crispy and the sauce that comes along makes the perfect combination! I ordered some dumplings, which were perfectly made and I also ordered the vegetable udon. I was surprised with the amount of vegetables the udon came with, I even had some leftovers to take home. The staff is friendly and helpful when it comes to the menu. They even provided cute reusable bags to carry our leftovers home! read more

Had the restaurant week set menu a few weeks ago. My friends and I have been craving Japanese curry so this was perfect. We came on a weekday after work and were seated quickly. I ordered the cucumber salad but was able to try the nori curry fries my friend ordered. The salad was a standard Japanese sunomono, which was good, but I would recommend getting the nori curry fries if you want to try something more unique. The waffle cut fries were hot and crispy, with nori seasoning sprinkled on top and a curry dip. Super yummy! Each appetizer also came with a miso soup. Chubby curry Japanese Wagyu entree was delicious - exactly what you want when you want the comfort of a warm bowl of Japanese curry. However, I think I would opt for the chicken katsu kare next time. One of my friends ordered this and the chicken katsu was SO juicy and tender and crispy with the panko crust. I don't usually order chicken katsu because it can often be dry, but I would order this over the wagyu next time! The rice came with some pickled radish (I think) and crispy broccoli that was seasoned really well. For dessert, I chose the yuzu mochi ice cream. I liked it - there was a little bitterness maybe from the zest. My friend didn't like it as much as me, but I'm usually a more adventurous eater. A note is that we were sat towards the front / patio area where people waiting for a table would stand very close, and there was a group that was quite loud while we were trying to enjoy our food. But that's kind of just a city thing. If you want a more intimate experience, I would suggest waiting for a table more inside the establishment. Overall, we had great food and a wonderful dinner. And I was happy to be able to try the restaurant week menu. There was also an unlimited wagyu curry lunch and a duck curry I saw on the menu that I would be very interested to come back to try. All Chubby Concepts I've tried (X Pot and Chubby Cattle) have been really amazing, from the decor inside to the service and food. This one is also more affordable than some other ones and I would encourage anyone who likes Japanese curry to come - it's definitely worth a try! read more

I visited for DinaLA2024 which came with the following prix fixe menu: - miso soup - curry waffle fries - Japanese curry with side of rice - matcha mochi The verdict -- highly recommend! The fries were a bit on the saltier side (as many other reviews mentioned), but the flavor of everything was delicious! The portions are generous for the price. Good spices and flavor of the curry. Service was a bit slow (there was only one waitress who was also doubling as host). And I was really looking forward to the yuzu mochi as a nice bright finish to the meal, but they ran out by the time my third course came around, so ended up with the matcha which was still good. I've came here for lunch and dinner and there's no wait both times. I've tried their tonkatsu curry, chicken katsu curry, chubby curry, wagyu dumplings, and curry fries. Their tonkatsu and chicken katsu are really tender and I would recommend those. The curry fries are so good and a must order. There are both waffle fries and curly fries on the menu, but they only really have waffle fries. I'm not a fan of their menu item Chubby Curry. It is a Japanese Worcester Caramelized Dark Cocoa Curry and I prefer their regular curry. Their wagyu dumpling is forgettable. They do offer all you can eat curry for those with an endless pit, but their entree portion itself is pretty decent and our group weren't able to finish even that. It is located in Beverly Hills. Came here for lunch during DineLA ($25) and it was my first time dining at Chubby Curry! I ordered the fries, miso soup, chicken kare, and strawberry mochi. The fries were super crispy, great portion size, and I loved that curry flavor on them! Miso soup was also very tasty and flavorful with nice large chunks of tofu. The chicken kare with the curry came out after - the chicken was unbelievably good. So moist and juicy yet had a perfect crisp and crunch to it. Not overly oily at all, just a realllly good piece of chicken. Probably best chicken (white meat) that I've ever had. I don't know what they did to it, but the quality was insane. Curry was good but didn't have that BAM curry flavor to me and it was a bit on the sweeter side for me. Came with a perfectly cooked bowl of rice as well. The strawberry mochi was a strawberry mochi, so can't go wrong. Overall great experience, for $25 definitely worth it! And service was good as well. Cant wait to return! read more

I visited Cubby Curry yesterday using a DineLA deal. As someone from Japan, I was excited to try the curry, expecting the same quality as back home. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed. For some reason, the curry came with miso soup, and the rice and curry were served separately, making it feel like I was eating a tonkatsu set meal with curry on the side. The miso soup tasted like it was from a packet, the curry lacked depth, and the sauce separated into water and oil after a short while. The location and interior of the restaurant were nice, and they seemed to put effort into things like the to-go bags, which I appreciated. However, the quality of the curry was a letdown. While I understand that my expectations were high, I hope they can improve the taste of their curry. And in Japan, curry with miso soup is unheard of! Service was ok. read more

I went right when they opened today since I found myself in the area around the time they opened. I got there about 20 minutes before they opened and had to wait for a bit while they were getting ready, but I got to check out the area a bit and also got to check out their menus. I ordered from the DineLA menu since it was my first time out there. Food was on point, I was a little sad to hear that they didn't have the nori for the fries, but it's hard to turn down seasoned waffle fries. Next, I ordered the chubby curry and I can say it's definitely full of flavor. I could probably do without the blackened broccoli. Maybe it works better mixed in with the curry itself though? I opted to order a Moshi Sparkling Uji Matcha White Strawberry drink and found that it was also quite refreshing. I've never seen a drink like that around, so I was curious and I feel like I definitely made the right choice. Took a bit to grow on me, but I'm glad I didn't give up on it after the first sip or two. Ambiance is pretty chill, especially sitting next to the street. Wait staff was also very understanding when I let them know I needed to step out to feed the meter real quick. Last, but definitely not least, the yuzu mochi. My goodness, it tasted absolutely incredible. Their DineLA menu is such a steal. It doesn't come with a drink, but 3 solid courses for $25 is actually an amazing deal considering how much the curry costs outside of DineLA. I found this place on DineLA and thought I'd give it a try! The package came with curry fries + entree + mochi. My boyfriend and I both got curry fries and different curries so we can try out more things on the menu. However, the first thing that caught my attention was the ambiance of the restaurant. It had a modern and luxury feel to it while also making it feel comfortable and casual. Our table had a small tic tac toe game for us to play while waiting! Curry fries - Super crispy, but was a little too salty in my opinion. The curry aioli was good but becuase the fries were a little too salty, I didn't dip it in too much sauce. Chubby Curry - My favorite dish of the night! The beef was tender and the flavor was there. It reminded me of a beef stew but when paired with the rice and pickled radish, it was flavorful and delicious! Chicken Katsu Kare - This was good! The katsu was crispy and I loved how soft the carrots were in the curry. Parking was mainly metered street parking but I noticed a parking structure right across the street from the restaurant too. Fantastic dining experience! For just a few bucks more per person than the average eateries (around $40 - food, drink, tips) you get Wagyu beef and roasted duck! All come with tasty curry topping. And for Beverly Hills, it's a bargain! Chubby Curry is part of a restaurant group that also operates Chubby Cow and X-pot, all of them offer unique and gratifying dining experiences. This one is more day-to-day and less extravagant but still wonderful on its own. Service was attentive and fast. The staff made first time dinners like us feel comfortable and welcome. The Wagyu Hambagu with Crispy Rice would be my #1 recommendation - at $23 it's a great price for luxury. The Duck Curry for two at $59 was a heavenly treat! I've known about Chubby Cattle in my neighborhood for a while, but I rarely go to buffets or all-you-can-eat establishments as I am not a particularly big eater, at least in the sense of volume of food. I came here for lunch with my friend who was visiting from Ohio. There were quite a few available seats because we went in when it had just opened. There's generous spacing between seats, and the atmosphere was quite cozy. The wait staff are courteous. I liked that they had their dry aging storage with wagyu beef available for everyone to see, that was a nice touch. I ended up getting the stone pot hamburg wagyu curry. The curry was served on the side. The hamburg had an egg yolk on top. I added the curry sauce on top and mixed everything together. The curry had a very strong beef flavor. Chubby Curry - Stone Pot Wagyu Hambagu - Japanese Curry Near Me - Beverly Hills, California

Found on a bustling street in Beverly Hills, stands an open restaurant bursting with spicy aroma named Chubby Curry. Name sounds familiar? Yeah. Think Chubby Cattle. It is owned and operated by the same group. So, of course, I had high expectations prior to my arrival. As soon as you face the restaurant, you can't help but admire the modern yet traditional Japanese interior adorned with many different anime figurines on the wall. We were greeted by a kind gentleman who then led us to our table and introduced the restaurant to us. You'll notice jars filled with crayons and a notebook to draw on, as well as little games such as connect four and jenga. I took that this spot would be such a perfect place for anyone looking for a date night, little get together with friends, or even for a family outing. I ordered The Chubby Curry and Wagyu Burger. The curry automatically comes with rice, cabbage salad, and a salty + sweet daikon (fukujinzuke). The wagyu beef was tender and tasted so delicious with the caramelized dark curry. Wagyu Burger was just as good. I don't know why I was expecting to receive ketchup, but I needed to dip the burger in something. So, I decided to dip the wagyu burger into whatever was left in my curry plate. Don't judge until you try it (LOL)! read more

After coming back from Japan a few months ago, I was excited to try this place. I thought it would be nostalgic. Also, I've been on the Chubby Cattle roll, and I really really wanted to like this sister restaurant. However, my experience as a whole was not the greatest and left me very underwhelmed. First, parking wasn't too difficult as we found metered street parking a few blocks away. There were no lines, so the yelp waitlist wasn't necessary. The ambiance was simple, modern, and cozy. The establishment is on the smaller side, and the tables and stools also seem to be on the smaller side. So here are the reasons for the 3 stars... 1. DO NOT sit near the restroom. The odor was unpleasant and made my food unappetizing. 2. At around 6 pm on a Wednesday evening, half their menu was sold out. 3. Service was decent but could have been better... 4. The katsu in the chicken katsu curry was moist and delicious. However, the curry was way too sweet for me. 5. The wagyu curry was savory and delicious. However, the wagyu meat was really dry. I have never had dry wagyu before, and it made me question whether it was actual wagyu meat since it was stewed in curry. Overall, I have a weak stomach, and the unpleasant odor near the restroom was the biggest no no for me. read more

Chubby Curry - Chicken Katsu Curry - Japanese Curry Near Me - Beverly Hills, California

So, this place was good. Had the Chicken Katsu Kare, which is what I usually get at Coco Ichibanya and Hurry Curry. The chicken was very good. Extra crunchy. And the portion was good, too. The sauce was a little sweet, though. Not in a bad way, just sweeter than when I've had Japanese curry before, both in L.A. and in Tokyo. Though not New York; it kind of reminded me of the curry at Go Go Curry in Manhattan. As for other aspects, the staff were nice and attentive, and the place itself was also nice. Kind of homey, like it had been there a while. Again, if I may brag like a jerk, it reminded me of this ramen place in Tokyo I went to. Now, parking in this neighborhood is a crap shoot. I got there a few minutes before noon, and just happened to roll up as someone was leaving. Not sure where else to park around there. All told, Chubby Curry won't become my regular Japanese curry spot, but I will be back, and soon. read more

Okay the aesthetics of this place was amazing. Decor was a 10/10 for me. Even down to the cups and packaging for everything. This whole place screams that you're in Beverly Hills. The thing that threw me off the most was the Togo bag they gave me. It's not only reusable, it's also insulated! I've never seen that before so i was very impressed by this. The service was also very friendly as well, everyone was very nice and helped us with any questions we had. Chubby Curry - I'll have to give this 4/5 because it doesn't taste like Japanese curry to me, or at least the ones I'm used to. It tastes more like Vietnamese Ragu if I'm to be honest. It's still very good and came in a nice portion Udon Know Me - Again, 4/5. I love udon, but the sauce on it just didn't give off a very rich taste to it. It tasted a little too citrusy to me. It's also a pretty small portion, but the udon was very bouncy and has a nice texture. Matcha White Chocolate Chip Cookie - Great dessert to end the meal. I recommend getting this. It's not too sweet with the white chocolate and the matcha gives a nice flavor. read more

The staffer was pleasant and informative regarding the various items they offered. Personally I felt and my friends thought that the dark curry goes better with the chicken katsu curry. The light one that comes with it is light and sweet but the dark curry that goes with the beef is more robust and tastier in our opinion. The place is medium size and you're greeted right away and given honey tea upon arriving. It's kinda refreshing and relaxing. The seating area isn't so comfortable but it's okay for dining purposes. Parking is 2 hours free across the street in the public lot before 5pm. After it's $5.00 to park. There are plenty of metered street parking up and down the street and into the residential area. Prices are in the $20 range so it's not overly expensive. If they offered the ability to change up the curry I'd definitely come back. read more
