New merged location at 2012 Sawtelle Blvd

The Baseline: Be open. They merged with Menya Tigre around the corner (2012 Sawtelle Blvd). This is more of an update as Anzu the official location is closed permanently. Silver lining is that the menu is available at Menya Tigre around the corner. I will review there separately. Food: Great Karaage chicken and fries. Service: No more service as it is closed. Atmosphere: A closed restaurant.

One mention from my friend about fried chicken and I immediately started craving it. The first thing that came to mind for juicy chicken in the Sawtelle area was Anzu so I picked up a five piece karaage chicken. The ordering was very seamless. Service was very quick. There is a small outdoor space where you can stand or sit in high chairs to eat the chicken because you really shouldn't wait too long to eat it. One bite and you can tell how moist it was because the juices were running and was a little bit messy. I had the aïoli dipping sauce, which was delicious and sprinkle md lemon juice on top. Definitely hit the spot and would highly recommend, especially because they have a small, easy parking lot. Parking spaces can be tight though so be aware of that.

Amazing fried chicken + curry spot in sawtelle! Anzu does some of the juiciest karaage I've had. The homemade curry was also sooo good, and went perfectly with the chicken and rice. I don't know what it was about the fried egg but it was also spectacular and maybe my favorite thing in the box. I don't know why I haven't been eating fried eggs more often with curry but it's an elite combination. The curry plate is a pretty big portion (comes with rice, a generous amount of chicken, egg, and a side salad) and worth the price! There was a huge line when we went around 8-8:30pm on a random Tuesday, so just be prepared for a wait if you go at a popular dinner time, especially on weekends. The service wasn't too slow though and the food came out quickly! They have very limited outdoor seating so you'll probably want to get takeout, but they package it well and the food stays hot for a while.

WHEN: Sun @6:30pm I was looking for a new spot to try for dinner and decided on this spot, knowing darn well it's going to be way too much food to handle...and I was right. It's a window off the Main Street to order, with a standing area with chairs to eat just outside. Small but it'll do. Here's what I got: KARAAGE BURGER - $8.50 Japanese Fried Chicken w/Tartar or Sriracha aioli. After placing my order I realized I never specified which sauce I wanted, and the gentleman who took my order told he was going to give me both--so nice! The sandwich was massive and the chicken was thick and crispy. Sadly I was only able to finish half. + $5.50 for FRENCH FRIES and ANY DRINK I knew I wanted to try the french fries, and saw that for just a buck more I can have a drink too, which I chose the can of GREEN TEA ($3). French fries were seasoned, warms, and crispy, but too much for myself and the hefty sandwich. I'm lucky I get 2 dipping sauces to enjoy it in! My meal was fresh, made to order, and was enjoyed in the outdoor counters. Feels kind of like a hidden gem tucked away off the Main Street in Sawtelle. I hope more people know about this yummy spot!

Writing this review to echo my love for this place. I've eaten here so many times so I don't thin you can go wrong with it. Love the karaage curry rice plate You order at the window and you can eat outside (limited seating). Parking is easy since you can either park in the small lot or on the street (meters or residential)

Japanese Karaage stand in Sawtelle. If you check in on Yelp, you can get an extra sauce. We tried the house sauce, aioli, and ranch - all were good, but the aioli was the favorite. We split the Karaage as a light dinner/heavy snack, as well as small fries. The chicken was crispy on the outside and moist in the inside. It came piping hot and we ate at the outside seating (indoor seating not available). They packaged the food in to-go containers and it seems to primarily operate as a takeout spot. Metered street parking available. Credit cards accepted.

PRO-TIP: Yelp check-in for a free side of sauce! It's a small order window but there is some limited outdoor seating. We got the: 1) Curry dog: -This is a keema curry hot dog with Japanese pickles on top. -This was my favorite part of our order surprisingly enough even though we're at a place known for their karaage. -Good sized hot dog, juicy with a nice serving of spiced keema curry on top. The Japanese pickles added a nice touch of sourness and textural crunch to the entire thing. 2) Karaage Burger Combo: -We upgraded this to a combo for an extra $4.99 for a side of fries and a canned drink. -The Japanese fried chicken is made from breast meat and you have the option of getting tartar or Sriracha aioli sauce. We got the sriracha aioli since we do love spicy and it is a bit spicier. -The karaage was crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. Breading wasn't too thick nor thin, but had those bits where it's just yummy crispy breading. The sriracha aioli wasn't spicy (a little bit of heat to it) but gave the burger a nice sauce to bring it all together. -Not a bad "fried chicken" sandwich. -The fries were decent and crispy too. Enjoyed dipping these in the extra side of sriracha aioli we got from checking in. Overall not a bad fast food stop to make in Sawtelle.

Hard to find the restaurant as they moved from the original location to around the corner and they don't have the name as it appears on yelp. Once here the young host was super sweet and helpful as it was the Huz's first time eating ramen. A little pricy but honestly delish.

Was looking for a place around Sawtelle and decided on this place because they had curry and karaage. Anzu is a little window restaurant where you order and eat out on a little patio area. I went with the Karaage Curry and really enjoyed it! Their homemade curry sauce was delicious and their Karaage chicken was good and a little juicy. I was worried it was going to be dry or overcooked but that wasn't the case. There are several restaurants in the area but this is one worth trying for their curry and Karaage!

Got takeout here again for lunch but this time I didn't eat it immediately after receiving it at the store. Instead drove it back only 10 min before eating and the sandwich was extremely soggy!! From the takeout container that traps all the heat causing a moist sandwich. I was so disappointed the fried chicken was no longer crispy, the sandwich tasted oily, and the sauce wasn't able to do it any justice

Had never been to Anzu before so went there for lunch today. Anzu is owned by the same people who own Menya Tigre around the corner on Sawtelle. Have been to Menya Tigre many times. Had the Karaage Chicken Burger. The Karaage chicken was very good. Thought the bun was too much like Wonder Bread and was too soft. Would have preferred a bun that was a little more chewy. As others have mentioned, there is rather limited seating outside. From what I saw while I was there, all orders come packed to go. While I was there, most of the orders went. I sat on one of the tall metal stools and ate my Karaage Chicken Burger.

Great selection of menu items . I ordered the 20 piece . This was so delicious. It tasted fresh was served hot with a variety of dipping sauces . The staff was very friendly and helpful and the service was quick. A lot of choice here on Sawtelle but I will definitely come back.

So it's on the heavier side, but I consumed almost all of it My son also remarked the bowl looks deceptively small, yet after enjoying the soup, we left satisfied and full. Then there's the chicken, dark meat grilled to near perfection with a smoky flavor that sneaks up on you. It works perfectly with the aforementioned broth. The noodles are also good quality. Again, at first the regular sized bowl looks small, but don't be fooled. It's a satisfying size. My son also ordered the fried chicken with tartar sauce. It's not a traditional karaage, but still quite tasty Actually, the ramen itself isn't traditional. There's isn't any shoyu flavor which was a bit surprising, but the unique flavor reset my expectations. Prices are typical for a Sawtelle Blvd. establishment. We all got the bbq charcaol chicken ramen, regular and large size are the same price, so might as well get a large?? It all came out pretty quickly. The chicken was really soft and you can definitely taste the charcoal grill to it. Pretty nice! The ramen noodle was a nice texture as well. Although, the broth was nice at first, it was a really oily and too rich. When you think of chicken ramen, you would think that it would be a light broth, but this was extremely heavy for some reason. The broth really overpowers everything that it does get too much to eat towards the end of the meal. I didn't finish my bowl actually haha. It was good, but it really feels to heavy to eat. The ramen is also on the pricier end, which it came out to be about $27 per person with tax.

The waiters were sweet in moving the umbrellas around so we would get more shade. The prices for their dishes are very reasonable, and I tried their Salmon & Ikura bowl. I loved the proportion of salmon and ikura and other various toppings compared to the rice, and the seasoning was perfect. My friend tried one of their staple ramen dishes, and he commented on the clarity of the broth along with a good portion size.
