I am a Chubby Club Plus member and have high expectations for Chubby restaurants. They have always been so impressive, but unfortunately, Chubby Curry did not meet our high expectations and was slightly disappointing tbh. I came this past Wednesday for a late lunch around 2PM. I was surprised to see that the restaurant was empty, since I'm used to waiting ~1 hour for Chubby restaurants. The restaurant has a lot of anime decorations around, with a lot of Demon Slayer figurines and posters decorating the place. Huge fan. We ordered the DineLA lunch which includes wagyu hamburger + waffle fries + drink for $25. Love the curry waffle fries with the curry seasoning on it. The wagyu burger was comparable to what is served at the AYCE Chubby Cattle/Wagyu Master restaurants. They are bigger and slightly more elevated in flavor though. We also ordered the wagyu curry and pork tonkatsu curry. These were solid but did not have the "wow" factor that I'm used to with Chubby restaurants. Everything was very fresh and cooked quickly (again, we were the only patrons in the restaurant). Ended up paying about $100 with tax and tip for these 3 dishes. For that price, I would rather go to one of the AYCE Chubby restaurants. Our server offered recommendations for our meal and helped us order. Unfortunately, I was unable to get points with this meal since they forgot to scan my app for points. Too bad because they were giving out double points that day too :/ They wrote down my phone number and said that the boss would add the points in manually but that hasn't happened yet... It's too bad I didn't get a picture of the receipt either.
Last month, we dined at Chubby Curry in Beverly Hills. A family friend recommended this place, so we tried it out and explored the area as well. There's mostly paid parking nearby. When we arrived at around 7pm on Saturday, there were a couple of parties dining and we were seated quickly. The restaurant has a casual vibe and fun anime decor, including a wall of figurines. The service was minimal and fine. We ordered on the tablet at our table and interacted with our server when bringing the food and presenting the bill. I chose the Tonkatsu Kare at medium spice ($23). The plate was nearly overflowing with curry, and the medium spice was a slow burn heat for me. The small side of cabbage salad was fresh, but it was drenched in dressing. I would've liked a balance between cabbage salad and pickled radish. My fave item from the dish was the tonkatsu/pork cutlet, which was a generous size and fried perfectly.
Went for DineLA lunch and had both offerings, the tonkatsu ramen with okra tofu and wagyu hamburger with waffle fries. Service was well paced with the first course arriving in a few minutes followed by the main. We didn't have high expectations for the cold tofu and okra but it was delicious and the tofu soaked up the soy based sauce and was balanced by the slight crunchiness of the okra. The waffle fries were exceptional - double fried with a curry aioli sauce. The tonkatsu and ramen were also great. The tonkatsu had a light, crispy batter and the ramen was so delicious, with the addition of corn, peas, black fungus and bamboo shoots, truly comforting. The burger was a hit, too. Juicy and flavorful. The small details here didn't go unnoticed, the unique plates, nice bamboo chopsticks and cute hippo candy plate. We chose to sit in front by the open windows since it was such a nice afternoon but the dining area further inside was welcoming, too. I've also been here outside of DineLA and it's just an overall solid experience.
I had high hopes for Chubby Curry, but the experience was pretty mixed. The biggest issue was the portion size for the price. My curry don was $18 and it came out on what looked like an appetizer-sized tray. For that price, I definitely expected a more filling portion. It felt more like a snack than a full meal, which was disappointing. As for the taste, it was fine--nothing bad, but nothing memorable either. The curry was decent and the food was cooked well, just not something that made me think, "I can't wait to come back for this." If the portions matched the price, I'd probably feel very differently about this place. Right now, it feels overpriced for what you get. It's okay if you're just trying it once, but not great if you're hungry and expecting value.
We stopped by on Friday after work to give Chubby Curry a try. Once arrived we greeted and seated right away. We were they ones there at that time. So service and food came out in a timely manner. Ordering was simple on the IPAD. We ordered the following: Pork Tonkatsu ( Side Order) - The pork loin was moist and tender. The crispy panko wasn't your typical Japanese style but it was nice a very crispy. Wagyu Beef Curry- We got the Curry at spice level 3 which was their highest. The Curry was very flavorful and had a nice kick. The only complaint was that it didn't have enough beef. It was more potatoes and carrots. Wagyu Steak Rice Bowl- This was definitely our favorite one. 8oz of tender rare Wagyu served on top of rice. The wagyu just melts in your mouth. A bowl that I will order again here. All In all Chubby Curry delivers the good. We did enjoyed it and would dine here again.
I was excited about trying this spot but it didn't hit the mark for me. It's one of those places you wanted to try but won't come back because you had better. FOOD 3/5 Signature Wagyu Curry = YOU CAN CHOOSE YOUR SPICE LEVEL Slow-Cooked Wagyu Beef, Japanese Worcester Caramelized Dark Cocoa Curry with Marble Potato, Carrot & Charred Broccoli, Comes with Japanese Rice Udon Know Me Thinly Sliced Wagyu Roast Beef Round, Mushroom, Japanese Curry Sauce Tonkatsu Kare = YOU CAN CHOOSE YOUR SPICE LEVEL 8oz Pork Tonkatsu, Japanese Vegetable Curry, Comes with Rice PARKING 5/5 FREE 2 hour parking literally across the street from Chubby Curry in a cover parking structure. Pretty famous Japanese curry house in Los Angeles. We stopped by for dinner and hsve to wait a bit. The interior is nice and the restaurant is kind of open concept where there is no door to get in. The menu is simple with various type of meat and curry. The one caught our eyes was the roast duck curry. It is limited and the most expensive item on the menu. Since we are here we ordered it. The presentation on how the prepare it was nice where they smoke the duck when they serve it to you. It is served with sake infused curry and it was yummy. The duck it self not really tender but it was good. The katsu is yummy the curry is also good. The fries was yummy. Our server was very nice and friendly. At the end we can't finish all so got some duck to go. We went home with happy snd satisfying tummy.
Not much people here on a Thursday night. Service was fast. Place is very dimly lit, gives bar vibes. Curry fries: so crispy! Curry seasoning reminded me of Japan lol. This dipped in the curry sauce is chefs kiss Pork katsu: recommended by the server. Did not dissapoint!! Pork is so tender and juicy, I'd get this with curry over the wagyu - it's more worth it imo. Signature Wagyu curry: Wagyu was good, but wasn't A5 melt in my mouth quality. I've only really had Japanese curry with katsu so this was different and interesting.
This restaurant was on my list to try their curry! It's not common to find curry at least outside of Little Tokyo and a Japanese marketplace. Overall, I enjoyed my food and I would come back! I ordered the Chicken curry and I'm glad I did because the portion was super filling. The chicken was very tender and the thickness of the chicken is generous! I like that it comes with rice, salad, daikon radish, and a side of Miso soup! The curry sauce was good and the flavor reminds you of homemade curry! Service was very fast and attentive. You order on an IPad and electronically sends to the chef. It was an easy process to order. The IPad had translation which I think was Chinese and was confused because I thought this was a Japanese take of curry. Perhaps it's just there for their customers. The restaurant is decorated with various anime figurines and posters. If you enjoy anime, I think you would appreciate this aesthetic.
Cute Japanese restaurant with lots of Japanese decor. I came on a Saturday night at 5pm specifically for their duck curry which is a "10 day dry-aged duck with sake infused curry". The server was super helpful and accommodating, but the duck curry wasn't actually available until 6pm although it is advertised as available after 5pm. I recommend calling if this is what you are coming for. roasted duck curry ($60): 9.1/10. The portion is huge and definitely meant for two people. They give a large portion of duck (I think half the duck is served). It's given as slices, as the wing, and with plenty of duck pieces in the curry! It also comes with some sides like pickled ginger, seaweed salad, and curry mayo which was interesting and tasty. It was delicious but definitely something that I would only get one time for the experience.
I was very excited to try this place as I love Chubby Cattle and was expecting the same quality and taste here. However, I was a bit disappointed. The name of the restaurant is Chubby Curry but the curry was not good. It also did not have much beef or potato/carrot so felt like we were paying for not much. I prefer curry from other restaurants and for the price point, I would not return for the quality and taste.
Amazing spot for curry! Their meats are high quality, service was friendly and efficient, and free 2 hour parking available in the parking garage directly across the street. This was my first time trying Chubby Curry with some friends. We've been to the other Chubby group restaurants like the KBBQ locations so we knew the quality had to be top tier...and we were right! We had some of their curry fries, cucumber appetizer, duck curry, wagyu burger - all were phenomenal. The flavor of the curry is great, strong but not overwhelming. Paired with rice, honestly pair the curry with anything and I'll likely eat it. They have tons of options on their menu so we'll definitely be back to try more!
My friend and my pup came here on Sunday for lunch and thankfully no wait. The servers have us a tablet for us to order from - efficient. As appetizer, we decided to try the Wagyu Soup Dumpling (XLB) - while it was good, there was no soup and definitely didn't taste like wagyu. Onto the mains - friend got Oyakodon (chicken donburi) with Chicken katsu and me, the Pork katsu with curry (which they call "kare"). The oyakodon was a bit too sweet for my taste but good size portion with chicken overload. The curry was okay with big chunks of potato and carrots. My facorite part was the breading - from the chicken and pork katsu were different types for the maximum crunch and felt the meat quality used for the katsu were solid. Thanks Chubby Curry!
Decent place but wasn't wow'd since I had high expectations knowing its part of the Chubby Cattle chain. We got the chubby curry and the chicken katsu curry. The chicken katsu itself was fried super well but the curry it was paired with was okay, a little too sweet. We liked the curry of the chubby curry better. The service was okay, they had chopsticks on the table but didnt provide napkins until we asked and they only gave 2. My friend later asked for more napkins and only gave one, felt a bit stingy. read more

Hi Jose, thank you so much for your kind review! We’re delighted to…
I have a new chef crush, lol! And I'm a fan of Chubby Curry, too. My friend and I stopped in for lunch over the weekend & loved it. I'm from Chicago so familiar with some of the Chef's past places back there, so glad he brought a casual spot like this to LA. I didn't hate all the NewJeans playing either~! You place your order on an iPad which is dope, leaves no room for error. Even with the iPads, the staff was really nice, friendly, and attentive throughout our time there. Loved the vibe of the spot. Are all those adorable anime figures glued down though?! People are shiesty around town so I hope so! I had the Chicken Katsu Curry and fell in love. So smart to put the protein on a little tray to keep it crisp. And it was crisp as heck with a plump & juicy inside. The curry itself is perfect, all the right spices mixed together for greatness. It comes with three sauces, all of which were really delicious. Great for dipping! The Katsu Curries are not cheap but they are so darn good, it's worth it. They do an AYCE at lunch but...who can eat more than one curry?! You monsters. Portion sizes are generous, too, it ended up making three meals for me. Additions are extra but if you're feeling frisky, add the corn, cheese and egg. So many nomz. read more

Hi Sarah, we're thrilled to be your new culinary crush and appreciate…
Japanese curry and katsu! Grabbed dinner here with a friend - on her suggestion. With my wanderlust having had visited Japan less than two months ago, she didn't need to twist my arm at all. Anyway ... Parking was easy to find. Had to walk a little but it was better than having to do laps hoping and praying. For the metered street parking, it's enforced until 9PM. Less than a five minute walk and we were walking inside - without reservations. Not a really large place - not sure I'd recommend the venue for a really large party. There are some counter seats that you can watch the magic happen in the open kitchen. Service was good. On the iPad at each table, there's a call button. However, like I mentioned earlier, not a big place. Wave the staff down is just as easy. And effective. I wouldn't use attentive but there when needed. See pics of the food. Loved the katsu. Like really enjoyed how tender, moist and juicy the chicken and port was. The curry it came with was on the sweet side - which I wouldn't say I didn't like, I just preferred the curry that came with the second dish (we shared). The signature Chubby Curry. The curry was meatier and not sweet. Though we liked the curry, the beef (wagyu) in the Chubby Curry was dry. Not sure how else to explain it. We still ate it as we mixed it with the curry and rice but if this is the way it's served, it's just not my preference. Enjoyed the other cuts though. Enjoyed them a lot. So, would I go back? Undecided. Other menu items to try and maybe our order was just an anomaly. As the place is new, will just wait to see how others who have the same taste as me feel and decide after their reviews. read more

I had a great time at chubby curry! The service was amazing - the waiter checked on us multiple times and asked for feedback so genuinely. I think my drink was forgotten but they came back to ask where they could do better and I found that really nice of them. The food itself was great too. I order a chicken katsu curry and my friend ordered the chubby curry. We both finished it pretty quickly. I do wish they had actually boba drinks. read more

Hi Joe, thank you for sharing your feedback. We’re glad to hear you…
Have to preface this by saying... yes, I was "influenced" to visit this spot because of all of the social media posts. I happened to be in the area, so why not. Chubby Curry is known for their unlimited wagyu curry on weekdays, but I chose the Stone Pot Wagyu Hambagu instead. It came sizzling with an egg on top and a side of Japanese curry. Absolutely loved how crispy the rice on the bottom became and it complemented perfectly with their curry. The flavor of the curry is mild and pretty comparable to that of other Japanese curry spots. Portion sizes are generous and I had enough leftovers for a second meal (tasted great reheated!). Chubby Curry is a solid spot for those who are already in LA. Wouldn't necessarily recommend making the long trek here for those who live further away. read more

Hi Cheryl, thank you for your kind review! We’re so happy to hear…
Came here after watching video on instagram! Never heard of this place until I watched a video on instagram about this place. Wanted to try out their AYCE curry but they only serve that during lunch time. I came here on a Saturday night and it was a bit busy. I put my name down on the clipboard by the counter. You cannot check in through Yelp or online. We waited about 40 min and we stood right on the sidewalk. We could not hear the waitress calling out names. We almost lost our spot because we couldn't hear the waitress, we literally stood in front of the restaurant on the sidewalk. I really like the atmosphere here. There's plenty of seatings and more seatings further into the store. I ordered their tonkatsu kare ($22) which comes with rice, curry, tonkatsu (pork cutlet), and fukujinzuke (red pickled vegetables). Also ordered a side of japanese hot mustard for additional $2. I thought the menu in general is a bit pricey. Our food arrived and we didnt get spoons or napkins. Had to ask to get those. The tonkatsu meat was very delicious! The rice was below average, it's not sticky at all and it just crumbled when you pick it up. Curry itself is average, my friends complained that it's not authentic 'japanese' curry. The side of mustard I ordered was creamy and hot, which tasted significantly better than the store bought ones. Interior is beautiful. The servers are nice. Their chopsticks are amazing quality and packaged nicely in good quality paper wrapper. Their napkins have their store logo on it which is a good touch. They do not go cheap on the small details which I do look for and they did an amazing job. Parking is either street parking or there's free 2-hour parking directly across from the restaurant in the parking structure. Definitely would come back for ayce curry, I think this place is worth it for that. read more

Hi Phoua, thank you for your positive review! We're delighted to hear…
Came here with a couple of friends on a weekday. Restaurant was clean and modern, food was decent. Parking - there is a lot across the street, 2hrs free parking Food - waiter suggested curry fries as an appetizer which was a good idea. Lots of umami flavor, might come back for this again in the future. We ordered several types of curry: level 5 vegan with Japanese egg yolk (which honestly was just a raw egg yolk), tonkotsu curry with corn, chicken katsu curry with corn, and the unlimited wagyu curry (not pictured). All of our curry were decent but I was not wowed by it--I kind of wished we could customize the curry (e.g. spicy level). Also, I was not a fan of the tonkotsu curry; maybe it was the cut i got but half of them were very fatty pieces (no tender meat) which i was a bit disappointed. read more

Came here for the first time and ordered the wagyu rice bowl, chicken katsu, waffle fries, wagyu dumplings, and eel hand roll. The waffle fries are a must. They are so crispy! The aïoli it comes with compliments the fries well. The katsu was also delicious and crispy. Although the curry was good, it's definitely different from your ordinary japanese curry. The wagyu rice bowl was good. However, it was a little on the dry side. I'll definitely be back to try other things on the menu! Service was easy, you order everything on an iPad and food comes out quick. Inside of the restaurant makes it feel like you're in Japan in terms of the seating arrangement. There is a parking lot located in the back. read more

Located in Beverly Hills around a cute and quiet neighborhood. They just opened and currently offering deals such as 10% off your order which we took advantage of that day unexpectedly. Came as a party of two around dinner time and was seated quickly. The ambiance inside was very homey, down to earth, and spacious compared to other restaurants in LA area. Now onto the food: 5/5: Chubby Curry - This was one of the best Japanese curry dishes I've ever eaten. Tbh I was sick of eating Japanese curry after making a whole batch at home months ago but decided to give this a try. This knocked my taste buds out of the ball park for Japanese curry. It was a bit darker in flavor from their Japanese Worcester caramelized curry sauce and more meatier which I loved. They had a good amount of slow-cooked Wagyu beef chunks in there that are so worth the price of the dish. The curry also came with chunks of potatoes and carrots that didn't make the dish too sweet which I appreciate. This dish also came with a big bowl of furikake rice and charred broccoli to go along with the curry. Definitely would recommend this dish out of everything if you were to get one thing. 4/5: Mixed Radish and Cucumber Salad - This was a refreshing starter dish and pairing to go with your curry you get. It came in a tangy sesame ginger dressing. The cucumbers were sliced super thin but still crisp and the radishes were sweet from the dressing. Pricey for the size but if you want something to go with your curry I would combo this. 3.5/5: Pork Tonkatsu - We got this as a side to our curries. The crispy outer layer was very light as it was battered with panko. The pork tasted a little bit firmer than I'd like and it needed a bit more salt since it tasted a bit bland to me. Maybe we should have tried the chicken tonkatsu and it would have been more moist. Regardless, their tonkatsu panko batter here is phenomenal and leaves you feeling light instead of greasy. It came with the salad and sauce. 5/5: Sparkling Uji Matcha (White Strawberry flavor) - This was also the star of my dinner LOL. It cost $7 which may be a bit pricey for a soda but I'm so glad I got to try this and would buy again. It had a sparkling soda flavor of sweet strawberries and hints of matcha. The ingredients are clean and very unique drink! It definitely woke me up with the taste and matcha. Great bubbly drink and went well with the curry and tonkatsu. I would definitely come back to this place to try their duck curry, Wagyu burger, and udons! read more

Waiters and waitresses are friendly. They got me a table right away when I dropped by. But it took quite some time to get my food. My rice plate is up to expectation as the beef is tender. I wish there would be more veggie. It is a little surprised that this restaurant doesn't have green tea and matcha mochi, which is essential to a Japanese meal. The price is slightly on the high side. A meal of a simple rice plate is $30 read more

Service was fast and attentive by all staff! Located right by rodeo drive. All the dishes we got were delicious. The duck was probably the best I've had. Soft and juicy with a crispy duck skin. I wish I could just order the duck alone, but it was good with the Japanese curry too. The presentation was beautiful and the plate underneath kept the food hot while we ate it. The curry fries were flavorful and crispy, and the wagyu dumplings were warming to eat. Some anime decorations throughout the restaurant, and ambiance was nice. Parking in the public parking structures made it very easy and it wasn't too expensive. read more

3.5/5 Stars! Good service and was able to get a table on a Saturday without reservations. Parking is free for 2 hours across the street if you enter the lot before 6pm. Great open concept of restaurant and kitchen, interior looks similar to Chubby Cattle. We ordered the spicy cucumber, tonkatsu curry and chicken curry. I find myself writing this for the most surprising aspect of the restaurant. What you often don't even thing about. The take out packing. They have it nailed down. If I could give 10 stars I would. Do they have parking? If not how much and if they validate? Thank you!
There is street meter parking. However just across the street is a spacious garage parking that has 2 hours of free parking and even if you go over, it's not that expensive
Do you have any outdoor seating or certain times when the front doors are open for the more covid conscious? Would love to dine here!
Hi Caroline, our door can be fully slided open, so it's like an open-door situation at our restaurant. We usually keep it opened during the day time when the weather is nice out!
