The staff were extremely friendly as we walked through the door. It was a Kazu nori vibe with tables on the side which is nice. We chose to sit at the counter and it was comfortable while also feeling like stone. The crispy rice was my favorite as it was prepared restaurant style. Add avocado to it because in my opinion it tastes better. The seaweed salad was the same as you have in a store my favorite kind. The salmon avocado was good. If I came back I would turn my attention towards the salmon yuzu!

I have officially found my new favorite hand roll bar in LA. I stumbled across Suki first on ubereats when they were doing a 2 for 1 special, and I was blown away by the quality of the sushi even with delivery. I was finally able to make it into the actual restaurant today and it was even better than before. There is plenty of parking, so getting a spot close by was a breeze. Walking in, everyone was so incredibly friendly. I ordered the seaweed salad which was WONDERFUL (trust me... I've had bad seaweed salad before and this was SO good) as well as 5 different hand rolls. I knew the spicy tuna and the yellowtail were good from my previous order, and they were just as good as the first time! The big standouts to me this time, however, were the scallop handroll, the albacore with crispy onions, and the spicy shrimp with tempura flakes. I was OBSESSED with all three. Honestly though, you won't be disappointed with anything you order there! I will definitely be back over and over!

Very sweet and attentive staff. Amazingly fresh. Creamy crab with the right amount of mayo! Best part is how crunchy the seaweed is for their handrolls (done cigar style, not cone.)

Came here on a Wednesday night and tried it while waiting for the Thai spot next door. The hand rolls are really good! Soft buttery fish and sauced perfectly. Francisco was our server and was very knowledgeable and told us about the different fish and which ones were his recommendation. We'll definitely be coming back and giving this place a proper try!

Everything tasted fresh, the nori had just the right amount of "crisp" and the variety was more diverse than my "go to" Kazunori.

My friend and I were a bit boozed out from the night before, so we stuck with a handful of sharable platters including California rolls and ceviche, all tasted amazing. Nothing was too heavy and the portions were all manageable, not too small or too large. The outdoor seats were very cushy and comfortable, it's perfect for sitting with your fur baby, and the restaurant provided water bowls upon request as well. Servers were all really friendly and the food did not take long to come out, though it wasn't too busy that Sunday afternoon around 3pm. Would definitely come back here to try the cocktails with other fusion bites next time we're in the area!

We ordered rolls, salads, ceviche, and pasta, but everything was just okay--nothing memorable. We had to ask for wasabi and ginger three times, and the server seemed confused. Service overall was friendly but very slow, and the restaurant wasn't even full. The pasta was a miss, and the "salad" wasn't really a salad. Drinks were the highlight--great martinis and well-made cocktails. That said, our bill was over $600, and none of us left full. Portions are tiny. Go for drinks and ambiance, but I'd skip the food.

Chirashi - the fish is QUALITY. 2 types of each fish, so it's still shareable with a friend. Standouts: their Uni was so creamy and fresh. Also loved the kanpachi pieces - firm and flavorful. Pressed sushi - these are hard to find outside of Vancouver so it was a delight to see them! We had the salmon and hamachi version. Loved that the Hamachi had a delicious spicy kick to it! The matcha mochi chocolate cake was so soft, gooey with strong matcha flavor! Great way to end the meal. It's on a poppin street on West Hollywood. Everything was delicious and clearly made with very high-quality fish. On top of that, it's incredibly well-priced compared to nearby alternatives. Excellent value for the quality. I am not one of those people but I do understand the sentiment. When a restaurant becomes an institution there is always the risk that it coasts. So I will say this clearly. It is not coasting. We came on a Friday night, reservation made weeks in advance because my assistant knows better than to leave it last minute. The room has this energy that I find difficult to describe to someone who has not been. It is lively without being loud. There is money in that room but it does not announce itself and I find that refreshing. I spend enough time around people who need to be seen. We ordered omakase style and let the kitchen guide us and this is absolutely the correct way to experience Matsuhisa. The black cod with miso is legendary for a reason and I do not typically enjoy when a dish lives so heavily in its own reputation. This one earns it every single time. The yellowtail with jalapeño is another dish that sounds simple until you taste how balanced it actually is. There is real technique beneath what looks effortless and I respect that enormously. My husband had the sake pairing and was very pleased. I stayed with a Burgundy I brought because I called ahead and the corkage situation was handled gracefully and without attitude. That matters to me more than people might expect. Where I have mixed feelings is the service. Our server was warm and knowledgeable but the pacing between a few of the courses was uneven in a way I noticed. It did not ruin the evening but at this price point and this level of reputation it is the kind of thing that should not happen. Nobu Matsuhisa built something real here and it shows. This is not a restaurant riding on nostalgia. It is a restaurant that still has something to prove and mostly succeeds.

For me, the experience was less successful mainly because of the fish dishes. The flavors felt too strong, and some of the dishes gave me the feeling that the fish was not handled or seasoned properly, which affected my enjoyment of the meal. I was expecting more balanced and fresh flavors. On the positive side, there were a few dishes I did enjoy. The mushroom salad was very good, and the cucumber salad was fresh and enjoyable as well. Those were the highlights of the meal for me personally. The atmosphere in the restaurant was pleasant, the place itself looked nice, and the staff were friendly and attentive throughout the evening. Still, overall, the food did not really suit my taste, so for me it was an average experience rather than one of the better restaurants I've been to

We waited about 5 minutes before someone came out and restocked a ton of plates, so that was definitely a plus. That being said, it does feel like people are kind of pushing through to make sure they grab what they want. We got California rolls, salmon nigiri, and tuna rolls. The California rolls were definitely my favorite! Everything tasted fresh, and the prices were really affordable. Was it worth getting pushed around? Definitely not ! I would recommend coming to Yasu for any special occasion and you will get to eat some amazing sushi here. The overall ambience was fancy but also welcoming and comfortable. It's more suited for smaller groups so I recommend your max party size be around 3-4 people. The pricing for the 17 course omakase menu we had was quite reasonable with picing at $195 per person with + 18% service fee and after tax it came out to be around $250 per person! Rockpool sounds a little generic for a sushi spot, but the quality of the fish is quite delicious for the value. In particular, the lunch omakase is probably amongst the best sushi deals I've had for a sitdown spot. I'd definitely take it into consideration over let's say... Sugarfish. People often talk about how "fresh" fish tastes at sushi restaurants, but I feel like the best raw fish is often aged to an extent. The taste of the fish here is good, but I don't feel that they always use the best cuts. For example, the otoro was tasty, but it was not as marbled as I'm used to seeing. That said, another critically important and often overlooked component of sushi, particularly in handrolls and nigiri, is the rice. The rice here is delicately warm, pairs well with the fish, and has a pleasant, slightly sweet and vinegary taste. Simply delightful. The miso soup was also quite delicious, with a hearty, deep, set of flavors in the soup stock, and the scallop hand roll here was so good, I forgot to take a photo before devouring it haha. The lunch special should be enough food for most folks, but you're always welcome to add additional items to it! Now, is it good enough for me to try the more expensive dinner courses? Debatable, but it might be... just barely! The value proposition is hard to ignore, though. It's certainly one of the best deals you'll find on the Westside.
