Yelp hours are a bit off - they actually close at 11:50 PM (not sure if it's every day though). Was looking for some late night food and everything seemed to be closed and hours everywhere are janky after COVID. I was extremely hesitant judging from the reviews but was really craving some Asian food - or anything that wasn't really fast food so I stopped by. It's take out only so no dine in and seemed like most people placed their orders online. We got in and there were two ladies waiting for their order while no staff were present so almost thought they only took online or phone orders. Clarified with them and they ordered inside (thanks ya'll). Took about 5-10 minutes to get noticed as it's a mom and pop shop with a wife and husband doing everything so they were occupied cooking. Gave them benefit of the doubt there, I understand. Placed an order for Pad Thai, Crispy Chicken, and Orange Chicken. Saw the order was $4 and was super confused, thought maybe it was just a tip. After going through with the entire transaction, I realized it was definitely an error so brought it up and the husband confirmed. Basically missed a digit. I might've ended up overpaying a few dollars because of some rounding but whatever. Anyways, he originally estimated it to take 30 minutes but the order came out in probably 15? I'm going to attribute the speed to the fact that I brought up the error, but I'm grateful it was sped up. Many other people came to pick up orders and they were alerted it'd take a few more minutes so you know they were really busy but despite that, they served me really well so I was happy. Chicken Pad Thai 2 stars - let me start off by saying their definition of 2 stars is definitely more. It's more of a 3.5 stars elsewhere. Man I don't handle my spice that well but 2 stars is my go-to everywhere and this one was hot! Took me a while to finish so let that be a warning. Moving on with the food - it's a little dry, not as saucy as other places so not as sweet but the noodles were fine and chicken was standard. Can't complain but I wouldn't order again and would try other items. Crispy Chicken 1 star - so all these entrees don't come with rice, which makes them look underwhelming. But when I look at the meat and realize I'm getting double the portion of an entree elsewhere, I'm pretty satisfied. I might not be getting rice or other sides, but I can make some at home for cheaper (I mean they sell rice too, but making rice is simple enough). However, it says this also comes with onion and bell peppers which I did not get. Taste was solid, not overly saucy with the right amount of crisp and crunch, but the lack of vegetables included was unfortunate. It's more of a soy-garlic taste maybe soy-chili sauce. Orange Chicken 1 star - again, no rice with the entree but the meat is easily double the portion of meat you get elsewhere with rice. Also again, this should come with carrot and onions, but it was missing. We just got a good amount of orange chicken to bring home. Unlike your typical Chinese food orange chicken, it's not layered in viscous sauce but rather slightly infused with the chicken which is lightly crispy and crunchy. Overall, I was pleased with the food. I think the Sea Thai Specials they have are probably the best items judging from the two I've tried. However, our meat lacked the additional vegetables so that's unfortunate. I wanted to rate down for that fact, but it's really not a big deal so I can look past it. An absolute gem! Stumbled in late at night because, well, there were no other options, and what a treat it was. The ambiance? Unforgettable. Didn't even notice the fish tank housing four small turtles with its rich, sludgy ecosystem until my friend pointed out the unmistakable aroma of pure sewage wafting from it. A bold design choice, really. Service was efficient--you just need to yell to the kitchen for the single employee to come take your order. Worth the effort, though, because the Tamarind chicken I had was hands down the best I've ever tasted. Sure, I had six rounds of intestinal gymnastics before noon the next day, but who's to say if it was the food or the hangover? A real mystery. My friends weren't blown away by the Mongolian beef, but they just don't appreciate the finer things in life. Would highly recommend to anyone with a strong stomach and a sense of adventure. There was a promo for free spring rolls (very tasty!) so naturally I ordered enough food to last a week. Anyone who offers fresh guava juice has my attention so that was a major win for a blustery cold winter evening. For mains I ordered the Penang curry - warning this is spicy even if you order the light spicy option, the basil tofu - smells so good from all that thai basil, shrimp goong Siam from their specialty list, and garlic green beans. My favorite dish was the shrimp goong Siam - savory and generous in size, I kept coming back to this one. It was a unique dish as far as thai dishes go and it was great even reheated days later. They don't skimp on carrots and onions in this dish. The garlic green bean dish was a little disappointing as they cut them in 1'' sections so they looked like they may have come from a can. They tasted good the first day but by day 2 may as well have been canned green beans. I was hoping for standard garlic green beans so I felt that this was the only dish that didn't live up to the rest of the dishes' standards. Well, I wasn't exactly looking around the room when I walked in to get my take-out, but if I had seen some of these reviews, I'm not sure that I would have gone here over another Thai place (it's a 4.5 on Grubhub out of almost 600 ratings, so highly rated). Frankly, I think people would be pretty disgusted if they saw the kitchen in a lot of other restaurants. Unless there's an actual health outbreak (remember, clean appearances didn't save Chipotle...), I don't know why it should be an issue if you're only getting takeout. Realistically, this is cheap Thai food for where it is...I don't know why you would eat-in expecting ambiance anyway... Now I gave this place 3 stars because they got my order wrong. I ordered chicken Pad See Iew and chicken Thai Fried Rice. They definitely got the order written down correctly unless "FIR" = Pad Thai not Fried Rice, but I definitely got Pad Thai not Fried Rice. Now the real problem with this is I got two very different dishes because it's all for me; I like to eat family style, so I often get two or three dishes and then have leftovers of all of them for the next few days. So getting two noodle dishes was less than ideal; a different mess-up (like a curry instead of one dish) would have been whatever honestly. I just ate the entire Pad See Iew and put the Pad Thai in the fridge. The Pad See Iew is a little on the wetter side, so if you like it because it has that little bit of char on the noodles, you may be disappointed; usually this is a sign that the wok wasn't hot enough and the sauce didn't caramelize onto the noodles or that there was just too much sauce. It wasn't swimming, but the noodles at the bottom were definitely just straight up wet. That being said, it was solid Pad See Iew; chicken not too dry and broccoli not too overcooked (maybe a little light on the broccoli though). In response to deliveries this is a very small family owned shop generally consisting of only one driver. They deliver to countless areas including Aurora ,Ballard, Westlake , Fremont ,eastlake, Lake city, Queen Anne (anything in a 5 mile range ) and because of this sometime they are unable to make everyone in a timely matter. 4- 5 miles doesn't seem far but going through rush hour traffic on local streets can take up to 50 min to make one delivery round trip. This is why deliveries are made in according to time they were received, and then grouped if they are going into the same direction. Deli fee are to cover the distance they have to travel but you were going to tip anyways though right? :) No entrees come with rice! Everything you order can have a choice of meat (chicken ,pork, beef, tofu, veggies).They are accommodating to dietary needs just ask.The menu's website is outdated but they have current printed ones at the restaurant. They close at 10pm so be conscious when you place an order or at least call first. I'm talking to you grub hub people. If they say their busy they mean their busy. Especially during heavy rainy days. I've been on a Thai takeout streak the past two weeks and seeing that this is the only Thai place around the UD area that I haven't tried, I decided to take a chance despite the 3.5 star Yelp rating. Who was I kidding? This place gave me food so disgusting that I am at a lost for words. Was I eating plastic?! Kee Mao Drunken Noodles: Apparently 5 star = no spices to them, so I had to add my own chili powder, salt, and soy sauce. More importantly, these were NOT kee mao drunken noodles. I've had my fare share of good and bad Thai food all over the US and in Thailand. I've never had kee mao this bad. They used the wrong kind of rice noodles, and these noodles clumped together so tightly it was impossible to break them apart. I also asked for the bell peppers to be substituted with mushrooms. I found ONE mushroom in the entire thing.There was barely any other vegetable either (besides tiny overcooked broccoli floret remnants and two pieces of carrot which tasted raw and uncooked). Red Curry and Panang Curry: The beef was rough, thin, tough, chewy, and rubbery. This kind of texture is common in beef that has been kept for much too long. Were they giving me expired meat? Again, I asked for the bell peppers to be substituted with mushrooms, only to find ONE mushroom in each dish. I also asked for 5 stars, but this tasted completely bland. Some Thai places make their dishes very sweet, but this was just plain and flavorless. You would expect that curry, especially from a Thai restaurant, would be full of spices to give you that kick. I'm a nice guy, and I generally try to give restaurants the benefit of the doubt. But there's a caveat: I can only work with what they give me. If they don't give me much to work with in the beginning, then there's not much I can do for them. And with Sea Thai, no matter how I try to spin it, I cannot say I enjoyed my experience here. It's a shame because I came in thinking I would like this restaurant, but the food just wasn't very good. Maybe I just ordered the wrong thing and it was my fault. The chef salad ($11.59) arrived ten minutes after I had ordered it. Without embellishment, I can truthfully describe this dish as random uncooked vegetables simply tossed together. They call this a chef salad? There were sliced tomatoes, lettuce, cucumber, and onions just loosely piled onto a plate. Adding meat was an additional two dollars. Then the presentation of this whole thing was a mess, too. They gave me an entire bowl of peanut sauce complete with a spoon to scoop it, but the sauce was too strong and should have already been mixed with the dish for me. The onions also added quite a powerful punch because they were just sliced without being cooked and then mixed with a bunch of tasteless vegetables. I used to order from this place all the time, but that ended tonight. I went and picked up my order of chili fried rice and realized there was no chicken in it. Upon calling the restaurant, the person I spoke to told me there was nothing they could (read: would) do to rectify the situation. I was patient until this point, but this was infuriating. Ordered some fresh rolls, they were ok, dipping sauce was delicious though. Pad see eiw was very tasty along with the spicy fried rice. I would definitely recommend this....spice level was right, Thai flavors I was hoping for. Service was good since it wasn't busy. Thai Iced tea was sweet to offset my spice level I ordered. We ordered soup too....forgot what it was called, it had coconut milk in it, sour, sweet flavor....veggies and mushrooms were good. Overall I had a good experience and recommend trying it out. Now I could eat Thai food for days, but Sea Thai was hard to eat for a couple of minutes. They had free delivery on Postmates, so I ordered the Pad See Ew and the Crab Wonton. The pad see ew was overall highly unsettling. When first opening the container, I was hit by a powerful musty smell (like wet dog). The noodles were long like chow fun noodles which was weird. They didn't taste as musty as they smelled, but they also didn't taste of much at all. The crab wontons were palatable. The texture on the inside was rubbery and the filling had very little creaminess or texture. The crisp on the outside was pretty good, but it didn't redeem the dish. My boyfriend and I eat Thai food about once a week, and we've been very committed to another local spot for the past few years. He came here with a friend and made the bold statement that Sea Thai was better than said place. So of course I had to try it, and I whole heartedly agree. This place is bomb.com. We had the potstickers, basil chicken, and pad see eiw. All were perfect and very generous portion sizes. Service was speedy and attentive. Loved it loved it loved it! The pad thai was"wetter" than some I've had before but really nicely spiced, and the chicken was really good. Chicken satay had good seasoning too. Coconut prawns were evenly coated and crispy. The spring roll portion was perfect for sharing. I also really liked that they had "clean" meals- protein, veggies and rice in weighed out portions so it's easier to track what you eat. I also loved that instead of the tired old fortune cookie we got fun sized M&Ms with the check. That was...fun! Oh and speaking of checks, loved that they brought the card reader to the table and ran in right there. Great delivery place, not so great to eat in. This is not cheap thai food. They have a loyal following and have won best of Citysearch for a couple of years, so they do quick business. The food is pretty tasty, which is why I suggest getting delivery. The eat-in experience is pretty lacking. Especially in the evening when most are running around attending to take-out; service will be slow and noisy. The do have a special imported chili paste on the menu which, they say, allows you to order dishes up to some apocalyptic 7 stars 'o heat. Worth a try if you're a heat masochist/connoisseur. Ok, so, I wish I'd read yelper Ashley P's review prior to confidently ordering my lunch here, #3 on the hotness. Hotness was delivered, hell, my mouth was on fire and I sucked up that thai iced tea like it was my IV. Still, I cannot fault the Sea-Thai for using fresh thai chilies. I give them props for keeping it real. This is a small restaurant, 9 tables to be exact, so come with a group of 4, or with one other person. No more! Tables are decorated with colorful, elephant print thai tablecloths. Pictures adorn the walls, as do photos of Thai dignitaries (I assume...I don't really know). The lunch special is what I went for - 3 mini springrolls, chicken yellow curry, and the spicy flat rice noodles which I requested in place of pad thai, which I am not a fan of. The waitress had no problem accommodating my change request, and upon consulting with the chef came to tell me it would be $1 extra. I was ok with this. Everything came super fast, and the portion was plentiful. Sadly, I couldn't fully enjoy because of the whole mouth-on-fire reaction. Also, the curry had more potatoes than chicken (sad), and the rolls were really just a crunchy, fried excuse to dip into the sweet sauce, no real filling. Ooh, they did bring a complimentary tofu, cabbage soup. Small bowl, very simple, quite refreshing, especially on a cold, rainy day in Seattle. It was great to have the place to myself, I got undivided attention from the server, and left moderately satisfied. Note to self: always go with #2 spice level when you are trying a Thai restaurant for the first time. If they're weak on the spice, ask for hot sauce, you can adjust, but if their spice packs a lethal punch, then you are screwed! I'll be back and try another dish out. Sea Thai is one of the best Thai restaurants in Seattle. The food is consistently well done and their chef is so sweet. Her name is Renoo and she comes out to your table and talks with you about her food. And, she's actually from Thailand. I've been to Thailand, and this restaurant is one of the only ones that comes close to tasting like the food I had in Thailand. Try her curry paste-it will burn your tongue off, but it's a holy experience. Don't let the hole in the wall feeling turn you off-it makes it better. Once, when the power went out while I was eating and they couldn't use their credit card machine, they gave me my whole meal for free. They're nice people and the food is fantastic. read more
