I've lived nearby for 7+ years now and Thai Thani has come a long way. When I arrived in Ballard I always considered it pretty mediocre, and not one of the area's better Thai offerings. The reviews still reflect as much. I had written it off as not worth eating at, and hadn't for several years when I recently ordered on DoorDash. I was pleasantly surprised that somewhere along the way this place took a big step up in quality - everything was shockingly good. I got Pad Woon Sen, one of my favorite Thai dishes that I was thrilled to see on the menu. It was packed full of fresh veggies, the noodles were perfect, the sauce had depth but was still very light, and the chicken was moist and tender. Everything about the dish was spot on. We also ordered Cashew Chicken and the Crab Rangoons. Cashew chicken: also nailed it. Great meat, fresh veggies, excellent sauce, nice spice. And while rangoons aren't my most often-ordered app, we were so goddamn happy we picked these. They were everything you want in a rangoon - crispy crunchy flaky edges and a warm gooey cream cheesy center...sexy lil things, mm mm mm. Prices are Seattle prices, but the portions are generous and value is better than just about anywhere else in town. So if you're new to the area and you're looking for a Thai joint, don't let the lower reviews discourage you from giving them a try. We are visiting in Miami. We try Thai restaurants everywhere we travel. We loved this place. We had the veggie spring rolls, which were cooked perfectly and crunchy. My wife had the veggie fried rice which was DELICIOUS. I ordered the golden cashew chicken with a side order of white rice. Spice level at 0 but it had a little hint of spice. Pretty good Thai food restaurant in Ballard. Bought some take out after spending a day walking around the neighborhood. Orders were tasty, salads refreshing, and Spring rolls were hot and crispy. I'm usually one to give the benefit of the doubt, but after this experience I will be trusting my gut on these things! Me and my partner walk in around 8pm, it's completely empty, which should've been the first sign to get out of there. The server was rude and cold, but I assumed it was because it was a long day. His attitude stayed uncaring for our 30 minute stay despite us making an effort to be more polite and gracious to show we're respectful. We ordered the yellow curry and pad se ew 2 star spice but both me and my partner were sweating. I was uncomfortable because of the awful vibe so we call for the check. At the end I overheard the server asking my partner "youre not going to leave anything?" And under his breath as my partner starts writing his tip "you should know better". He was so rude and degrading and he spoke in a way that made us feel little. My partner was afraid of what he might charge on his card without him knowing after that interaction. We will be watching his credit card charges! In most cases we do tip. But we think a server is meant to earn a tip not ask out right despite not deserving it. And we never expected this entitlement. We ended up here as our third choice, but after dining in, I'm so glad we did--it's now my first pick for Thai food in the area. We ordered the chicken Pad Thai and crispy garlic chicken, and both dishes were outstanding. As a Pad Thai lover, I can confidently say this was the best chicken Pad Thai I've had in Washington state. The service was fantastic, and we each tried the Raspberry Haze cocktail, which was equally impressive. I'm always missing items or my food is not spicy... like zero stars when I religiously request 4-5 stars. I understand mistakes happen but every time? It's time to start double checking orders. I also have to say, there was one occasion that I ate inside and had a pleasant waitress. Outside of that experience, the service has been awful. Excellent Thai food that has plenty of vegan or veganizable options. We stopped in for a late-ish (8pm) dinner on a Saturday night and they had a few empty tables for us. They were quite busy with take-out orders, but still were fairly quick to serve us and bring our food. We ordered their pad see ew with tofu (omitting the egg to make it vegan; $14.95 plus tax), a pumpkin red curry with tofu ($15.95 plus tax), and a veggie delight ($12.95 plus tax). Everything came out in 10-15 minutes. Both the pad see ew and veggie delight were on the gentler side, but well-seasoned and balanced dished. The pumpkin red curry was excellent (spice level: 3 out of 4; totally manageable). All in all, the food was excellent and well-portioned. Good service and a pleasant environment for dining in. The food here is consistent and good, and the staff are friendly and efficient. We always get the Pad See Ew (soy noodles with chicken & carrots) and they're always good about omitting the egg and broccoli and adding more carrots. We also like their yellow curry, red curry, and crispy lime chicken appetizer. Also, their black sticky rice pudding is one of the best we've had and we've had it from a lot of places. This restaurant has a really nice job with atmosphere, customer service, and generally good flavor. I would not say it's my absolute favorite Thai restaurant that I have ever been to, but I did really enjoy it. And I think that for their price point, the portions are pretty good. The eggplant dish on the vegetarian options was delightful. The star rating between 1 to five spiciness is pretty good. I would say that it's a little on the hotter side for me. Recently came here for dinner and was able to dine-in! Normally, I'd prefer eating outside because of Covid, but luckily, no other parties sat down to eat as most people seemed to order takeout. We ordered the Yellow Curry with beef (no spice) and the Curry Fried Rice (mild spice). The yellow curry was really delicious and generously portioned. However, it doesn't come with rice so you do have to order it separately at an extra charge. I also wished the curry was slightly thicker, this one was more on the watery side, but it wasn't a big deal. The Curry Fried Rice was packed with flavor and a good amount of spice. It was substantial enough for two people and we ended up boxing it up to eat for lunch the next day. Overall, the service was great and they're keen on checking in on customers and refilling our water glasses. Great spot to eat dinner before or after a movie at Majestic Bay Theaters. It's been a while since I've lived near Thai Thani, so I recently gave it another try. I picked up my order for takeout. The Tom Yum with chicken was delicious, just the right spice (not for the faint of heart) and no shortage of mushrooms or chicken. Container was filled right to the top. I was less impressed by the Pad See Ew. The portion was great with plenty of noodles and tofu, but there was barely any sauce. The noodles were largely uncoated and what little sauce there was seemed very thin, like it was watered down. I made sauce at home to pour over the noodles, but without that it was just dry tofu, broccoli, and noodles which for the cost was not worth it. Pickup was quick, with very kind staff and a clear pickup process. I'm hoping my noodles were a mistake and hope to revisit to re-review the next time I'm in the area. read more

I am probably their best customer (they don't know who I am of course - probably don't care) ordering takeout or dining in as much as 5 times a week on average for years. Ever since their service staff changed (the friendly young lady whose name I do not know) the service here is absolutely terrible for both takeout (you have to wait a ridiculous amount of time and won't even be acknowledged) to dining in where the service is also incredibly slow now. To make matters worse I recently decided to have food delivered from here via DoorDash instead of picking it up - it was the worst Pad See Ew I've had in my life - I didn't even know you could mess up this dish. My pineapple fried rice tasted like the cabbage it came with was expired. Equally horrible. This was a big shock after having eaten here so many times -- the food is usually consistently mediocre. What you expect and nothing more, but that's usually good enough. I didn't expect the food to be horrible suddenly. With horrible service and declining food I will be taking my business elsewhere. I was SO close to declaring this place my new favorite Thai spot in Seattle. Unfortunately a couple of things made it so that I won't be returning. The worst part of the whole experience is that the waitstaff made fun of me both behind my back and to my face for how I ate my side of sticky rice. I'm not an idiot. I understand it is generally used as a spoon...but I don't like eating with my fingers and I have always loved making it into a hard ball of gooey goodness and dunking the whole thing in my soup. So sue me...it's my prerogative how I want to eat something once it is delivered to my table. I'm not going to scoff at someone for eating French Fries with a fork or steak with ketchup. I'm not super picky about good service, but I am not going to give money to a place that makes fun of their customers. The best thing about this place is the hot "sauce" tray they bring out. There is a paste, some super spicy chilis and a ground spice blend. This was the highlight of my visit. The Tom Yum was just OK. Their peanut sauce is unique and delicious, however the fresh rolls were bland and there was too much lettuce. This is my go to Thai for take out in my area. I live close by and I am so glad because whenever I'm craving Thai, this is where I go! I usually get my favorite (pad thai and red curry) for take out and enjoy it at the comfort of my own home. I have eaten at the restaurant and had good experiences. The pad thai is pretty consistent in flavor and spice. I love spice so I always order 4 stars (it is out of 4). I will say the consistency of the curries are very thin and liquidy. The flavor of the red curry is really good but I got the green curry once and regretted it. Not only was it super liquidy, but the flavor was just not there. I tried their pad see ew as well, they cook the noodles perfectly and it has really good flavor. The broccoli was cooked well and had a nice crunch to it. All I could taste was saltiness and the sound of my teeth trying to gnaw at the super hard fried shell. Was craving Thai and their Kee Mao Noodle really hit the spot!! Super flavorful wide noodles, perfectly cooked, and plenty of chicken. Husband got the tofu Pad Thai. Both were delicious. HOWEVER I'll note that while we both picked "level 3" (out of 4) for spiciness, my Kee Mao was quite spicy (and I can handle a lot of spice) while the Pad Thai was barely spicy at all. So while we didn't mind, just an FYI their heat scale may be inconsistent! Sorry I didn't take a photo - we dug in too quickly! But the portions were generous for the price and we have leftovers. She seemed genuinely glad to see me and was humming a tune while putting my utensils in the bag and that made my entire day. After trying multiple Thai places around Seattle, for some reason we always keep coming back to Thai Thani for their Pad See Ew. Seriously - their Pad See Ew has that perfect amount of sauce, wok-flavored char, chewiness of the noodles, ratio of veg to protein to noodle. The portion is also substantial for ~$11.
