Was at UC Davis having a farm animal tended to and had some time to wait so walked about 5 minutes to this little student operated cafe. I had little to no expectations as I have seen these places run the whole gambit, so went with the spicey chicken sandwich and the 1/2 pound hamburger. It took about 10-12 minutes for the orders to come up and ran about $13 per meal. My wife and I were both pleasantly surprised with how tasty the food was and they both came loaded with fries. I could see myself eating here if I was a student or worked here and they offered about 5-6 different menu items to choose from which rotates weekly. I came here last week for lunch with some coworkers. I've never been to the old Scrubs Cafe, but this one is nice and modern. Lots of windows and natural light - great for studying or relaxing. CON: The ordering process was a little confusing; it's not clear which line to stand in or where to pick up your food. PRO: I got the Scrubs Burger and it was pretty tasty. I think a few coworkers were jealous. ;) It cost about $9, which is a fair price for the size. Everyone else's dishes looked good too, so I'd definitely come back to try the other items. read more

Ok, so there is a lot going on in Scrubs. There is a quick grab selection of wraps and sandwiches, there is a semi quick, small hot food selection at the Peets counter, there are smoothies and coffee at the Peets counter, then there is a hot made to order section. All of these things factor into my rating. Scrubs is located right across the street from VetMed, so you wouldn't really eat here routinely unless you worked at VetMed, and it's not really worth going out of your way for. The prices are a high, but it's location is the reason for that. First: the wraps and sandwiches in the quick grab are meh. Pretty average, but will suffice when you're in a hurry. They do have a decent selection of cold drinks though. 3 stars Second: the quick hot food is decent as well. The selection varies, but sometimes they have something that sounds really good... rest assured it's just ok. 3 stars Third: I hate Peets coffee. Though this location does make it easy to drink what I presume an ash tray tastes like, and you can't find those on a tobacco free campus. 2 stars Fourth: The hot, made to order food. (They used to have a pick what you want then pay by weight section, but this has been gone during the pandemic.) I find the food here pretty damn tasty... but overpriced... but tasty. I like the burgers here. Sure they sometimes put a little too much char on the burger, but I like that. Sure they sometimes salt the fries like it was an ice covered road, but I don't mind that either. These instances are rare actually, and it doesn't turn me away from getting the Scrubs burger, which is really tasty, and fries, which are typically fried to perfection and delicious. They have a few other things, that look good. Coworkers say they like many of the other hot foods they have, but I always come crawling back to the Scrubs burger. Ask for BBQ sauce and dump that on it for a special treat. 4 stars Overall this place is a great place to eat when you're in the area, either for work, class, in the arboretum, or waiting for your fur baby to be on the mend. Prices are high, but this is a university thing. Service is friendly. Place is clean. Ample seating outside and now inside since the pandemic is easing. Worth stopping in for if you're nearby. It's another brand new building closer to the teaching hospital and it looks all sorts of fresh and clean. Some has changed. Some is still the same ol' cafeteria. There is also a much more sanitary walk-up window for those (for instance) coming out of surgery with dirty scrubs (ooh, see how they did that?) on. Not an uncommon sight to see many patrons in the cafe donning clean scrubs also. And no, it's not a Starbucks. They just fling Starbucks branded drinks at you and charge accordingly. read more

Scrubs is a campus cafe, deli, grill, and specialty coffe shop in the Health Science District. Well, at least that is what it says on the website. The most interesting part of Scrubs is the Taco Bar. I usually get the taco salad or taco burrito combo, which comes with a soda. There are pre-packaged salad and sandwiches. There are regular beef, garden, and vegetarian burgers. If I were only rating the food...it'd be a 3...but given the location (right by the vet school, and the only option there) and the previous scrubs (better to not remember it existed), a this place is infinitely better. The food is better and typically fresh, although if you come at odd hours there may be few options. It does seem to be sort of pre-processed food that wasn't cooked with love...but it is a school cafeteria after all. The prices aren't the best but are fair. The seating is plentiful and that is amazing for all the hard working students who have no other fresh food options in the area. The outdoor seating is nice too and very clean. The only other con I can think of is that it's across the parking lot and across a street which can be a little inconvenient while working in the VMTH...but hey. FOOD! read more

If you are at UC Davis Small Animal veterinary hospital, this cafe is right across the street from the doctors. Nice, clean, fast. Prices were a bit on the high side, but it is really the convenience of being "right" there when you are waiting (impatiently) for test results of your pet. read more

When I worked at the UCDSOM for 4 years, this was definitely my go-to place for lunch (not that there were many other options). I would always go to the taco area and get their nachos - they always gave me two layers of toppings, alternating between layers of chips - just the way I like it! Choice of meat, sour cream, jalapenos, beans, CHEESE - yum! Always a good portion for lunch. This used to be the only thing I would eat when I came here, until I went to the grill. The fries that they serve there were always so fresh and crispy! The quesadillas are pretty good, and the salsa that they give is also pretty good too. I've had the grilled cheese too, though I can't say that's my favorite. This place is right near Med Sci - I went in before a midterm to grab a quick bite to eat - it was pretty crowded, not super well lit, but clean, at least. I grabbed a chicken bean burrito and waited in line - if you've been to the Coho or any kind of cafeteria it's got the same cashier system. It's quick as long as there isn't a big crowd. The cashier was very nice! The burrito was soggy and was way heavier on the beans than the chicken. The tortilla was leaking red sauce and it was just too messy. Definitely wouldn't recommend it. There are other food options there though - burgers, salads, etc. You can also always get the coho to go stuff from here too. It's in a decent location and the employees are nice but that's about all that it has going for it. Would rather just drive toward UMall or something else nearby. read more

We look forward to eating here every day while our pet is getting cancer treatment at the UC Davis Veterinary Teach Hospital, about a 60 second walk from Scrubs. We've only been to Scrubs since its reopening, and here's why we love it and eat here every day for breakfast AND lunch: 1. Really solid food. Great salad bar and yogurt bar. Yummy sandwiches and fries. Homemade chips (potato and tortilla) that we see them making in the mornings. 2. Very good prices. You can get made-to-order, gluten free pasta with whatever you want for $8 (the veggie version). This is crazy -- considering we're visiting from San Francisco where a single piece of cake costs $8. 3. Nice staff. I like seeing the same, familiar and friendly staff every day here. They've gone out of their way to be accommodating, and are friendly and helpful. 4. Great location. If you're already in the area, this setting is really nice. Big indoor eating area with lots of tables, booths, and windows / glass walls for plenty of light. Great outdoor eating area with a lawn and shade. 5. Campus wifi. Great setup. We (and several others we noticed) camp out here all morning while waiting for our kitty and just do our computer work. Very peaceful and surprisingly productive. This is my first time to scrubs after the renovation. The location has changed, and so has everything else! There is a full salad bar, pizza and burger grill, coffee shop and tons of seats for eating, studying and socializing. My favorite thing about the salad bar is the option to add steak or turkey. I've been here for both breakfast and lunch and both times I have been satisfied. The breakfast burrito was pretty good and only a little over $4. The Scrubs burger during lunch hours is delicious and would highly recommend it, definitely worth it even though it's one of the pricier items on the menu. I enjoyed the new Scrubs Cafe. I went for lunch and really wasn't sure what to expect. I got the neopolitan lasagna and I felt like it was a good portion for what I paid. Two of my coworkers got the Scrubs burger which looked very good and I'm thinking I should try next time. There is lots of natural light from the walls of windows which was nice. I do feel there is a bit of a traffic flow issue. It wasn't clear where I was supposed to go to order or line up. This morning I went into Scrubs and purchased the potato scramble. Eggs, potato, cheese and I added bacon. The chef-chef, not cook, prepared it just so. He took his time. It did not take long but it was not at all rushed. The result was potatoes that were hot, moist but not too moist. Bacon with a slight crisp, and a hint of cheese. I say hint as you could taste​ it, but it did not overwhelm the overall flavor. The eggs, scrambled, moist, like I like them and flavorful. I'm a UC Davis staff member and I finally made my way from the other side of campus today to try out the NEW Scrubs Cafe. The salad bar has a nice selection of fresh ingredients and the price was reasonable. I was really glad they had quinoa as an option as well. Depending on what you want to eat, it's a little confusing trying to figure out what "station" to order from. Last Friday, I ventured to the new Scrubs Cafe location with colleagues for lunch. At first glance, the location felt clean and tidy - though signage is limited. You'll need to look up directions if you're not familiar with that side of campus. I ordered chickpea pasta with pesto, veggies, and sausage. The ordering system is a little confusing, but staff were friendly and helpful in guiding me along. I was sooo happy to learn that the arugula pesto is dairy-free and the pasta I ordered is gluten-free. The pasta tasted much better than anticipated very reasonably priced ($8 and change). My only regret is that it's not closer to my office! Although it's not near central campus, it was a nice, quiet, bright spot to enjoy lunch. I could see myself bringing family or meeting up with friends who are staff to get away from the usual offerings at the CoHo or Silo. Scrubs is one of those cafeterias that succeeds less on quality and more on the fact that there are zero other options in the area. Location/setting: good, with lots of tables, a couple of microwaves, and plenty of space. It makes a great study spot. Food: terrible. It is barely mediocre cafeteria food, but at ridiculously high prices. I have never had a truly tasty and enjoyable meal there. The coffee is enough to keep a grad student awake, at least. Service: relatively good, although slow. Don't expect to get your food in under 15 minutes if you order something that must be prepared. Overall, I give it two stars. This has to be one of the worst cafeteria's I've eaten at. I'd compare to a step above junior high food from school. One of the lady's was very rude when my order was wrong and had the audacity to ask what employee would eat my bitten sandwich and she would "deal with me later". There is nothing great about this place except that it provides a place to microwave my food or a place to study that's not inside a classroom. It gets fairly busy during lunch hour so it's tough to find a table then, otherwise it's fine. They offer starbucks coffee, from a pour jar, but that's ok. Their food court offers food at pretty ridiculous prices. Single bean burritos run $3.50 which is crazy for how small they are. I usually bring my own salad and buy $0.50 boiled eggs to add. This place is absolutely terrible. Every time I come here I think it will be different and it's not- first time I came here I had a lasagna, it had completely burnt cheese and dried out pasta layer. Today I had a veggie pizza, the crust was so thin and mushy that when the server picked it up with tongs they pierced through the pizza. It was so sloppy it could not be picked up and I had to roll it up onto the crust to handle it. It is incredibly mind boggling that they actually employ "chefs" because it really doesn't show in the food. Scrubs has long been a joke at its last location but now it's just sad considering how much UCD students and staff already pay for this place in salary and infrastructure. The Woman kitchen Manager (short hair, heavy set) is just plain RUDE! She never has a smile, makes you feel dumb, and lacks customer service. The food taste like low class, unflavored, mediocre cafeteria food. I think this place could have potential if they stepped it up. I would not recommend the food to anyone, but what I do recommend is the coffee bar. The gentleman that work at the coffee bar are mostly pleasant. One in particular(he wears a Scottish kilt) is very nice, interacts with customers, and makes you feel welcome. Most of the time the kitchen manager makes you feel unwelcome! Lastly, I think the coffee is way over priced. It definitely should not be almost 3$ dollars for a coffee. That is crazy! Step it up Scrubs.. I am a client of the VMTH, I come here to have lunch when my pets are in between there appointments. Been here 3x, every time something gets messed up. Either they forget to start cooking my food (first expierance) second is they gave my food to the person infront of me.... waited about 20 minutes for a recook after already waiting 10 to order..... the old one I found was MUCH better. Seriously disappointed. There's no other food spots near so I was stuck with choosing Scrubs. Sadly, this is the final straw and I won't be back. read more

The cafe posted signs on their dining tables says they open at 7am however, they do not actually open service until 8am. Other then being told it was a management decision they could not give me any reason for the change. Many people start work at 8am so this is really inconvenient to change their start time. They also need to change their signs to reflect the correct opening time for food service. I was directed to the coffee area which has limited food that appears to be reheated. Not a good change. To be fair, the staff gets 5 stars for being really friendly and helpful, though there is often some confusion about pricing. The location is good if you work/study in that part of campus. And there is usually enough seating. Those are the good things. Now the reasons why I can only give 2 stars: The food is not good at all. They can get by with it because there is no alternative. It is the only food place in that area, you would have to go to the U-mall or the main campus for other food options and that is just too far away. Scrubs does not have a lot of variety either, it tends to be the same for years, with only occasional changes like some sandwich of the month. If you order something from the deli/frying station be ready to wait for quite a while. If you take some of the pre-made "hot" food items (burrito, hamburger) then don't expect it to be hot. It may just be somewhat warm Still it is convenient. You might want to avoid rush hour to avoid long lines but you have to pay attention to their business hours. The deli/frying station is only open for so long, after that you can still get coffee but no more hamburgers. Overall it is quite overpriced. The burritos might seem affordable but they are small and there just isn't very much on them. The coffee is way overpriced. You might say, they serve Starbucks and Starbucks it just as expensive. But this is not Starbucks. It is a cafeteria. read more

I recently came back for breakfast here since lunch was good. Prices are really good. Only spent about $5 for a egg and cheese breakfast sandwich and 2 large pieces of toast with a ton of butter that came with it! They have a lot of variety outside what I ordered and a lot of customizable breakfast items. My only suggestion would be to have the staff communicate a little bit more. After I ordered I was not told where to wait or how long it would be until I got my toast. I was also not asked if I wanted butter or anything else on my toast. When I got it I had to ask for butter, however, they gave me a ton when I asked. : ) read more
