The food truck is shaped as a log cabin. Cute. Very eye catching. The first time I saw it, I wondered what they served. Sure enough, they serve BBQ. You'll see the truck around Sacramento and Davis. I tried them out a few weeks ago. I asked the cashier what was their best seller. He mentioned that they are known for their lamb. Well they are called Smokin'Ewe BBQ. So I gave that a try. I have had lamb before but never smoked BBQ. My order came out quickly. All the hot items came out hot and the cold was cold as it should be. The lamb was sliced thin. All so tender, melt in your mouth texture and tenderness. Lamb in general is gamey tasting. This lamb had the typical gamey taste with a deep bbq smokiness. At first bite, my tastebuds were confused. After several bites, they connected to my brain and luvin it. Traditional lamb flavors melded with smoky BBQ goodness. The plate came with potato salad, baked beans, and a bread roll. I also received a container of what looked like sauce that resembled a herb seasoned sour cream. Being LI, I didn't eat it. The potato salad was traditional and served deliciously chilled. Luved it. I forgot to ask if the beans contained HFCS, so I passed on eating it. It looked and smelled good though. They had other menu items besides lamb such as tri tip, brisket, ribs, chicken, pulled pork and hot links served as an entree plate $19 or a sandwich $14. 3 ribs $10. Mac n cheese $8-14. Sides $7. I was craving BBQ and stumbled across this place. I ordered three ribs, brisket hoogie roll, potato salad, baked beans and it came with a bag of potato chips. Ribs were tough but the sauce was good. The brisket sandwich was dry and they were stingy with the sauce. The brisket was really fatty and lacked meat. It did have good flavor. Potato salad tasted as if it was store bought and was a little too sweet for my liking. The baked beans were extremely different from what I'm used to and would not recommend them. Usually I would only go to Wunderbar for the nightlife, so I've only tried the food once so far. Cheeseburger - B Decent burger. Patty is quite juicy and overall the burger tastes pretty good. I like the Romaine lettuce for crunch and some additional flavor, plus they add some tasty BBQ sauce for some sweetness. Fries - B- Over salted, but I love the long skinny fries. $5 is a bit pricy for a side of fries but the portion is quite large (enough for 2 people) Hope to come back for some more grub like the sandwiches and wings! read more

I think the 3 star, overall, review is fair for this location and their food. I have been inside of Wunderbar and ordered in person, thinking the service was meh, but my main experience with this business is through ordering food for pick up, to go, or delivery. I've had their loaded fries w/ pulled pork; brisket sandwich; hamburger; mac n cheese with brisket; and their regular fries so far. My opinion is that their food is hit or miss but the reason for the four star review is for their price - $8, even on a delivery app, gets you a really decent sandwich with a really good amount of food. If you order delivery, you may not get every ingredient on your meal, as advertised, sadly Fries / Loaded fries - thin, hard fries that honestly lack any flavor, clearly it's cheap frozen fries. I tried their loaded fries recently, assuming it'd come with jalapeños, tomatoes, etc. as shown on the app photo but that was incorrect. My fries only came with nacho cheese and pulled pork, no other toppings. Generally, it was pretty bland. I also am not a huge fan of nacho cheese so that didn't make me happy, I thought I was going to get shredded cheese at worst. Brisket - Their best meat choice is the brisket, it'll melt in your mouth and I do like their bbq sauce, though they skimp on it to be honest. Their sandwiches are simple, just the meat and the sauce, I wasn't given any toppings on my sandwich - not sure if this was a delivery issue Pulled pork - if you get a large piece, it'll likely be tender and yummy. Otherwise, it's overcooked and the edges aren't good to eat. It's generally flavorless. I wish they'd use a little bit more seasoning or even salt. Smokin 'Ewe had a truck at the Sacramento Farm to Fork Festival offering a lamb sandwich (among other things) so I decided to give it a try. The first thing I noticed was the sandwich had a generous portion of meat, especially for a $12 price at an event. It came with a nice aioli sauce as well which really complemented the flavor. The only thing I didn't like was the bun. It was a cheap commercial bun which fell apart as the sandwich got soggy. A better quality bun or even toasting it would have shown more attention to detail and made for a better overall sandwich. But still, not bad! This is my favorite place in Davis. In the morning/afternoon it's a delicious restaurant for BBQ and at night it's my favorite bar. This review is based off my three years in davis: Their cornbread is the best ever, you have to try it at any cost. It's crumbly but moist and is sweet but savory. It's literally inexplainable but just take my word on it. The cannoli's are so tasty, my personal favorite was the Bavarian Creme Cannoli but all are yummy. I don't eat pork, so i subbed the pork on the Pork Belly Mac with brisket-oh my goodness it was so good! The portion size on that is huge by the way so it's at least two meals. Burger wise, i have tried the lamb burger and the mushroom burger (I actually didnt know the mushroom burger only had veggies so woops) but both were delicious. My only problem with the burgers is they were always cold. But they're really good so suck it up. Service is fantastic. They're so kind and helpful and overall 30/10 for this place. This place is total ASS and NOT real BBQ!!! Ordered the rib meal. Real BBQ ribs don't have CRISPY GRILL MARKS on them! These ribs were grilled then barely put in a smoker for final flavor....which wasn't there...no smoke ring nothing....as I ate them I thought "at least they aren't boiled" if they don't have time to properly smoke ribs I'd hate to try the pulled pork or brisket which take up to 12 hours. The rib meal came with beans which were ok and some shitty store bought potato salad. I paid NINETEEN DOLLARS for some grilled ribs and store bought potato salad....best part of the entire meal was the store bought Kings Hawaiian roll. I got to try the smokin'ewe food truck! I was very very impressed by the food. I tried their lamb sandwich. And boy was that good!! The lamb was on point. It was soft, tender, and juicy. Plus, the flavor was so good. Just enough spice to mask the often overpowering gamey-flavor of lamb. I got my sandwich and it looked a little plain at first (undressed) and so I asked for some sauce. The owner, kindly told me that it had a garlic aioli spread and to try it first. And I did. And I loved it. Talked to the owners for a bit too. Love me some good family-cooked food! U have to go to the bar to get food. Drinking afternoon patrons don't make the bar easy to access to place an order and get food in the afternoon. Food ok, portions large but it costs. BBQ Sauce not great comparitively. What really turned me off was a very large chewy piece of non chewable very tough elastic tendon in the pulled pork sandwich. Whitish in color and stuck between pieces of meat in the sandwich. It was definitely large enough to see before hiding it in the pile of meat on bun. I first thought it was a piece of plastic while chewing pulled pork meat but when I pulled it out of my mouth it was stretchy and fibrous like bone ligament and definitely not edible. I saved it to show the cook but gave up on parking. When this happens, I tend not to repeat my order. read more

It was 6:15 at night. This barbecue place is inside a bar that looks ok. There was a small sign in the front saying ewe barbecue- easy to miss. I walked by it several times. I went inside and asked the bartender where was the barbecue and he sent me to the back and told me that the guy who ran it wasn't going to be there for another 15 minutes. It was 615 at night. First impression, I looked inside and there were maskless employees, which is super disappointing. Second, we ordered four items to go, and three of the four items were prepared wrong. We ordered the potato bomb over yelp, but they ran out of potatoes, and didn't think to call us to tell us. Instead they just substituted it with fries. My girlfriend ordered nachos without jalapenos, but they put them on the nachos anyways. Lastly, I ordered the pork belly burger, but they just gave me the mac n cheese burger (not the biggest deal). With all of this, I would have dropped it down to a 3, but the food itself wasn't good. The fries were stiff, the meat was pretty flavorless, and the mac and cheese which came with the loaded fries/burger kinda tasted like nothing. I am not one to write negative reviews, but wowza. Wow! Tried the food truck for the first time at Wed Elk Grove get-together. Best BBQ I have had in Sacto next to Tank House. Ribs, spare ribs were super meaty with a great smoky taste and just a drizzle of sauce. Tender but not too tender like they are supposed to be. Three ribs were enough for two with three sides for $14 was a steal. Beans had a nice kick of heat and potato salad was good. Coleslaw was fresh and crispy. Lamb sandwich was excellent, first time I have had that. Tender thin sliced lamb similar to tritip with just a little fat for extra taste. Smoky taste and although I added some sweet BBQ sauce that had a little kick to it, didn't need it with Aoli. Sandwich was big enough for two on a Whopper size bun and worth the $9. The food truck was at the SACTOMOFO Fiddyment Dinners to Go event. I ordered on-line, but when I got there, they didn't have the order as there wasn't any Wi-Fi. Totally understand, and they were so nice about it. These are good people. The refunded me for one item they were out of stock. Now to the food. I got the all meat platter. It had a mix of 7 different meats and I got Mac & Cheese and Cole Slaw. The Mac & Cheese was one of the best I've had. It was creamy, cheesy and great seasoning. Cole Slaw was vinegar based rather than mayo. This was perfect compliment to the smoked meats. The meats; Ribs, Brisket, Pulled Pork, Tri Tip, Lamb, Chix Thigh and sausage. All of it was sooo smokey, tender and juicy. The sauce was a Kansas City-Style Sauce, not too sweet. The lamb had a nice Garlic Aioli on it. If you have a chance to try the Smokin'Ewe BBQ truck, do it. You won't be sorry! read more

First off went through the whole delivery process through the app to only be told at the end that they are not currently delivering. So off to pick up the food. I had a Tri tip sandwich, ask for onions and bbq sauce on the side, onions were in the sandwich and I wasn't given any bbq sauce at all. The Tri tip was completely flavorless, it was so bland that even salt couldn't help it. I ordered my sandwich with potato salad and beans. The potato salad was just your basic generic potato salad that comes from a pre-made container at any store, it was pretty good, however it was placed on a red and white paper in my to go box so by the time I got to the bottom of the salad, the paper has melted and mixed into the salad. The beans were so spicy hot I could only take one bite before my mouth was burning. My husband got a pork belly burger and ribs, he seemed to like them but also could not enjoy the beans do to the hot spices added. You have to go find someone to help you to find out you must order food through the bartender. 3. Kitchen was out of macaroni salad and out of pastrami.
