[ Firehouse ] House-Made Garlic Blue Cheese Spread, Frank's Red Hot Sauce, Bacon, House-Made Avocado Spread, Thousand Island & Mayo

I'm not a burger person (I usually actually avoid it), but I had to try burgers in Davis. This is one of best burgers I tried. Their bacon is THICK and everything worked wonderfully. I strongly recommend stopping by here if you are in Davis. Great pricing and this restaurant has been in Davis for a while. You order near the bar and service was great.

Came here for the nostalgia! We came here on a weekday lunch time, and there were a few tables occupied already. We were greeted by the staff. Service was very friendly! There's a large menu you can reference on the wall. When you're ready to order, you can stand at the sign and pay ahead of time. Then you can find your seat and they will bring your order out to you. We ended up ordering the Aggie Jam (we had to make a choice between the Firehouse and Aggie Jam since they were winners as noted in the menu) with fries, cajun tater tots. Aggie Jam has housemade garlic blue cheese spread, housemade bacon jam, and housemade cajun mayo, with the burger patty, lettuce, onion, and tomato. Not sure what kind of bread they use, but it seems maybe housemade or specially made! The burger was generously sized, and probably could be split if you have a smaller appetite. This was a delicious, flavorful burger. I don't typically go for food with blue cheese, but I wouldn't have been able to tell. The burger was medium done, which was perfect. It was very messy to eat though! I would recommend this burger. The fries that came with the burger were the battered kinds, which made it perfectly crispy. They were salted well. The cajun tots included bacon, green onion, cajun spice and sauce. It was also generously sized, and I think it could be shared among 3 people, especially if you get a burger. I liked that they didn't smother the tots in sauce to the point of the tater tots getting soggy. The tater tots were already perfectly crispy, so that was helpful for texture and so delicious! As for the restaurant, it is an older establishment/inside isn't super modern. There are two restrooms, more cramped feeling, but clean. Parking is on the street (free) and is limited to 2 hours. Overall, I'd say this is a solid burger spot!

Would I return? You bet! They enter competitions and win for thier outstanding burgers! They have even been featured on TV food network shows. The staff is usually very enthusiastic and friendly. The soup is divine. I love that we can sit outside and enjoy people watching.

Normally, when I write a review, I make sure to take pictures of the ambience and the food. This was a different day. I was starving, and really wanted a burger. I had heard that these burgers were award-winning burgers. I was in a "feed me now" state of mind and didn't think much of what I was ordering. I remember waiting over 30 minutes for food. It seemed there was a large party ahead of us, and I don't really mind waiting for food when I know there are lots of people and a small amount of staff. When I finally got my food, it was warm and cooked to how I like it. Everything seemed in order, except for my tater tots. By the time I realized that my tots were overcooked I had already torn into my burger about a third of the way through, and thought it improper to ask someone for a different side of tater tots. They were hard, oversaturated with oil, and had no potato on the inside. My friend's plate seemed fine, but my sister had the same situation with her tater tots. Neither of us were interested in asking for a resupply because we knew how busy it was, but it was a bit of a downer at a place we thought was going to be award-winning and very satisfying. I would be willing to try this place again. Perhaps the key is coming on a night when they are not as busy.

Had a fantastic lunch at Tommy J's! Ate inside this time and the owner came and greeted us personally. There were a ton of options on the menu to please even our pickiest little eater. Drinks were ready wicked fast and the food came soon after. Portions were generous and the food was SO delicious. There are lots of tables of varying sizes inside and out. Inside it's a little noisy, but that was perfect for us since we had a talkative 5 year old with us. This is a great place for a casual lunch!

Great burger place right in downtown Davis! We ordered the following : 1. Swiss 'N' Shroomer Burger- Sautéed Mushroom, Onion, Swiss, Thousand Island & Mayo 2. Aggie Jam Burger - House-Made Garlic Blue Cheese Spread, House-made Bacon Jam, House-Made Cajun Mayo 3. Regular tater tots 4. Fries - Blue Buffalo Style with Blue Cheese Crumbles, Frank's Red Hot Sauce, Service was with a smile and courteous attitude. The ambience is of a typical burger place with both high and low tables and seating at the bar as well. Definitely worth a visit at least once!

Walking in, we were immediately greeted by the staff and you do have the option to choose your table. However, you would order your food at the counter and they would give you a number to serve you the food. Inside was lively had a more bar-like feel with TV's along the walls. We ordered the firehouse burger with tater tots and the Aggie jam with Shroomy style fries. I think the firehouse burger had a lot of components but the blue cheese took over the flavor bacon and avocado. I'd say the blue cheese would have been good enough without them but it wasn't too potent of a taste. The burgers were really juicy though! I really enjoyed the Aggie jam with the slight tang and subtle sweetness from the jam. It would have been nice to have some crunch texture. The shroomy style fries were really good and didn't feel heavy at all.

This place wasn't too crowded when we arrived but did start getting more packed towards the end of our visit. Besides inside seating, they did have a good amount of outside seating as well. This place was featured on Food Network's Best Bite in Town so we had to check it out. Overall, the service was good and the food did come out quickly. I felt as if there was too much spread on my burger and the buns did get soggy fast. There was a lot going on and my hands were super messy but you expect that when you are having burgers.

If you know, it is already incredibly hard taking an autistic child to a restaurant. The manager thought it was ok to tell my 13 year old to put on my autistic son's shoes..... (why not ask me, the mom?) As my son is screaming and heaving a full meltdown over shoes now, the manager continues to apologize because there were possibly glass shards on the ground in his restaurant. If that is the case, maybe someone else should be notified as that is a serious safety hazard and my son would get cut anyway as he has sandals that expose his feet, as did my daughter. I will never eat here and will make sure to let all my friends with and without kids with disabilities to never eat here. What an unacceptable excuse this place made me and my family feel. If I could I would rate it 0 stars. Horrible management!!

The comfortable atmosphere saves this establishment from 1 star. Dim lights, leather couches, chill music, and colorful tiki wall art make for a decent study spot or date night. However, if you're hanging out at a business, you gotta support it, and to support it, you gotta buy something -- I can't see myself buying anything kava-related with any ounce of enjoyment.
