Always nice to see when the Chef would prepare something special. You know that it will be his hearts desire and he would love making it. We had the short ribs as Chef's special and it was delicious and tender. You don't need a steak knife. We also got the Jambalaya pasta and the spice is just about right! Plenty protein in that plate. I'd say - there was even amount of pasta and protein so I would say it was worth your money. I like the place being casual and cozy. The idea of separating the bar from the dining area is good. Was nice that there is outdoor seating as well. Small city parking may be a challenge when it gets busy but who doesn't like to walk a little after hearty meal, huh? Brandi!! Waitress!!! ... or lack there of, kicked us out of the restaurant following us outside YELLING at us in the street "don't come back". We were great customers eating there twice a week. She should be fired, but she won't because the manager didn't give a crap. We now go to Cattlemens, Dawson's or Jacky's which is a block away. Full bar and excellent customer service. They serve American food as well. You know, we asked for the manager and she was said to be too busy and it would take a couple days to get a call back. Well, that never happened. Food is not very good, always over cooked. Waiters other than Brandi are great. So manager doesn't manage! Either doesn't care or doesn't have time for the customer. She followed us out the door yelling don't come back. Enough said! The food has fallen way down. Way down!!!! 1 star at best. Everything is over cooked. Yet, we kept going because of the atmosphere and service. Brandi killed that. Have you ever been told you complain too much, get out and don't come back. What a great example. Let me start off by saying as a local business I want Bud's to succeed. Local businesses play a big part in bringing the community together. And I will try to choose my worse wisely, as I have seen some Yelp reviews in the past that gave some constructive feedback met with defensiveness. Again that's just my own observation. I'm just here to provide our own experience and observations. My wife and I came here for lunch on a Friday afternoon. The first thing we noticed is how dim it is when you first enter. It took a couple seconds for our eyes to adjust but then we were good. The inside has a nice historical feel to it with photos on the wall. We ordered some steak bites as an appetizer; while my wife ordered the chicken pasta salad and I got the BBQ Bacon Burger. As we waited for our appetizer, our waitress places a couple small plated on our table. We immediately noticed that one of the plates had some sort of liquid on it (coffee maybe). We had a hard time getting the attention of our waitress, but we informed another waitress of the dirty dish. She immediately apologized and brought us two clean plates. My wife was facing the area where I believe was the kitchen area, and she observed our waitress placing some food in her mouth (not once, but twice) without washing her hands. Again this was my wife's observation, and even said the second time they made eye contact. We got our steak bites which were very juicy and tender. If anything, we would have maybe liked a little more sear to the bites. But they were still good. My wife liked her pasta salad, but couldn't finish it because there was so much pasta on the dish. My BBQ Bacon Burger and fries were pretty basic, but still good. I do think the burger patty could have been seasoned a bit tho. Unfortunately, we weren't too thrilled with our experience. Some of the waitresses there seemed like they were locked in their zone just doing their jobs. Which I can understand since lunch was busy. But I was hoping Bud's would be one of those spots that makes you feel right at home. And I'm sure it does, but I didn't feel it this time around. Coming from Vallejo the name Buds is a staple so I really wanted to check this place out. The service was great, very kind young man and woman helped us. We sat outside which was nice. Got their French dip sandwich with fries and their fries were delicious...the sandwich was pretty good but I'm big on not too much fat...had a little too much for my liking but everyone else in my group that got it really enjoyed it. My son got a burger...says it was good, just too much bread. Will definitely try this place again especially since my mom moved up the street! read more

Used to love Buds, although always a bit quirky. But last time I was there will probably be my last. A drunk at the end of the bar was allowed to keep yelling and randomly whistling. Everyone in the bar was bothered but apparently not the staff. One bartender even 'enjoyed' a shot with him. No one made any attempt to quiet him, he finally left and people relaxed. Food: So good! That prime rib was amazing. I was full about half way through, but it was too good to stop eating. The shrimp cocktail app is fun too! Everything was cooked to perfection. Ambiance: Very nice! The bar looked fun and there were plenty of TVs to watch a game at. The restaurant side also had a nice atmosphere. Service: WOW!!!!! This is what really separated Bud's from other establishments I've visited recently. Their wait staff works in teams which means that instead of one quality individual helping you, there are multiple staff members working to help you. We had amazing service (restaurant manager I'm hoping you read this and give these women some kudos) from Itzy, Madison and Megan. What a team! They were friendly, food came quickly, great recommendations and all three were helpful. Many of our needs were met without having to ask (almost as if they anticipated what we'd need, which was impressive) and anything that we asked for was handled quickly and efficiently, along with a smile. Thank you Megan, Madison and Itzy. Thank you also to the cooks for making our meal so delicious. They did not come around to the table very often which was ok till we were waiting for our check. My friend caught her eye and she said she'd be right back. We've always liked this place, but yesterday we ordered to go from their website menu. After getting home, I realized they overcharged me by $23.70. We called and they said they'd bring us the difference. No one showed up. Called again today, and the manager said the menu has gone up but the web site still showed the old prices. So instead of $23.70 refund, they said they did overcharge by $7 and they go by the new prices, not what's on the web site. So beware!!! Definitely not worth the price. We came here for a birthday dinner and it was honestly one of the worst meals we've ever had. The prices are ridiculously high for the quality of food you get. Everything we ordered was just bad. The burgers looked uncooked, the salads were basically just iceberg lettuce with barely any chicken, and the steak was underdone and had no flavor at all. Not only did I have the pleasure of eating lunch here with my mother and mother-in-law, but we also chose Bud's as our caterer for my father's Celebration of Life at the Olde Vets Hall. Cherie, the coordinator for the Olde Vets Hall, works through this restaurant for payments, etc, making everything super easy. We catered a lunch for the memorial, and the food was ALL excellent. We ordered Salad, Potatoes, Vegetables, Tri-tip with Gorgonzola Sauce (You could put it on a shoe and it would be delicious) Chicken in Lemon Caper Sauce, Veggie Lasagna (The leftovers showrunner for us, we have fed on it for days without flavor fatigue) Sourdough bread, and the berry pies for dessert. We also opted to get a bartender for a cocktail hour, and everyone raved about the drinks! The servers were also very attentive, and kept water pitchers on the table full, and worked tirelessly to clear the tables when everyone was done. Both Bud's and the Olde Vets Hall are cool buildings. The bar at the restaurant is stunning, with many mounted hunting trophies. The dark wood provides a historic California vibe that is really nice. The booths are spacious, and the waitstaff is friendly at table or bar. I couldn't be happier with the quality of the food and the service, and the price, considering the MOUNTAIN of leftovers we will be feeding on until Christmas. Everything Ive tried so far has been lackluster, boring, and bland. Sandwiches should be tasty, not a chore to eat for sustenance. I know Dixon isn't the food and cultural Mecca of Solano county but I think that they should be able to do classic American food a bit better. Then I witnessed our server not once but twice eat food and not wash her hands after. Food was decent, basic. Steak bites were tender. My cajun pasta salad was missing the cajun, imo. Came in Wednesday night for dinner with my fiancé. This was my first time actually eating at buds, I've only ever been here for the bar before but was pleasantly surprised :) The host was very friendly and on top of keeping our waters refilled. Our server and the other server working were both very friendly and welcoming. And the restaurant itself was really nice and clean, the dining area is one half and the bar is on the other side of a wall splitting the two. Haven't been here in a long time but food was delicious! Margarita was perfect didn't give me acid reflux like some so had to have 2 . I ordered the ribeye cooked perfectly and was tender . On that note myself and my wife went there about a week and a half ago and sat at a little table in the bar area, had a drink and then dinner. So disappointed in how the food has gone down hill in the last couple of months. We used to eat here two or three times a week, spending 125$ not counting including over tipping the wait staff, spending 200$ a visit. Now we've cut it back to once every couple weeks or more. Today we went for a simple brunch for our Anniversary, new greeter said breakfast/brunch ended at 11a am .... on Saturday & Sunday it's offered until to 2pm. My husband enjoined his omelette originally I was ordering a NY steak breakfast with mushrooms,". Which turned into a steak, garlic bread & salad. The garlic bread was only toasted on the top bun, bottom bun wasn't toasted or anything. I ended up with a steak sandwich, that is on me. I requested the higher end cut steak....The steak was cooked med rare, with sauté mushrooms, but the steak was so dry & tough it was inedible, definitely a frozen steak at 29$, that is unacceptable. We both tried it and split it out. The mushrooms; however were delicious. It took over 25 minutes for our waitress to come and take our food order and, only after my husband asked one of the bust servers for a waitress. They had four bust servers and two waitresses for a full restaurant. We had to ask them to turn on the overhead fans because the restaurant was so warm, due to all the customers. They comped our complete meal, but it doesn't take away the nasty taste of the food in the last couple of months. We won't be back for a while for sure, which is really sad. This isn't a one time experience with Bud's. Food is incredibly expensive for low quality food. The service is pretty horrific as well, most recently we called ahead for a take out order, my dad shows up for pick up and waits for to be helped and even asks for help. He is ognored and then several people were served, waited on and helped, all while he waited. These people came in after him, I was on the phone so heard the background. There has been other times where we were sat and never even helped, I personally would never go here but being in a group and being out voted I figured I should share...each time is another version of crappy food and even worse service. Honestly, I would not give this place even one star if I didn't have to. Like others said previous reviews, this place has gone way downhill. Unfortunately I think it has to do with management. We had a terrible experience a couple weeks ago and will not be giving our business again. We were seated quickly, but no waitress came to take our orders until 45 min after sitting down, and our food was brought out maybe 30 min after that. I would understand if they were busy, but it was not busy, maybe 4 families max. That wasn't the worst of it. When we got our billed, we looked over it and was mis charged about $60 more than what it should have been. On top of that, they tried charging us a $30 fee for holding our 6" birthday cake in their fridge while we were eating?! What is that? When I brought it to so called "managements" attention, she said promptly, "sorry I have to pay rent and electricity, we charge a service fee per person in your party when you bring your own dessert" That is wild.
