Cattlemens does not disappoint and the Dixon location is only about 15 minutes from my home. I have been going to Cattlemens since I was a child with my parents, and the iconic buffalo head is still in the dining room. We really enjoy their Happy Hour selections, and now that we are retired, we can take advantage of this much more often. I wish their beer selection was more robust, with less on the Budweiser / Coors selections, but the mixed drinks do not disappoint. Our most recent visit was on April 15, 2026 for an early dinner so we were greeted and seated by the hostess immediately, and Glenn provided us with excellent service. We started out with the bacon wrapped shrimp as an appetizer, and I ordered the Filet Mignon for my main course, and my spouse ordered the Pete's Special. The appetizer was excellent, the sourdough bread was warm, and the salad fresh! Our steaks were flavorful and cooked perfectly (medium) with the perfect amount of exterior char, and the interior juicy and flavorful. The baked potato was outstanding with a good choice of condiments. Our server, Glenn, was very engaging and attentive, checking in with us regularly to ensure our food was great and if we needed any drink refills or dessert. We had a reservation and went on a busy day. They have a private parking lot, and opened early which was nice. However everything went South after we arrived and were seated. Our young, male server (name unknown) was slow and forgetful. But he was nice and apologetic. The steaks and salmon were charred beyond belief! The steaks (requested to be medium well) were burned and black on the top and bottom. They were sent back, and burned the same way the 2nd time as well. Literally HARD to the touch. It was so bad I thought maybe the server put the order in as well done - even then they were burned. He said he hadn't. The salmon was grilled so hard that the grill marks were hard to the touch - and I do mean hard. Another of our party ordered prime rib instead the 2nd time, but received steak. The fire was obviously too high for cooking which rendered everything burned so badly they were black, hard, and overcooked. When the 2nd round of steaks and salmon came out the same way we were floored! The lobster was cold, and our party requested no bacon on the loaded potatoes but yes, you guessed it, they had bacon. It was a terrible experience and a super long wait for meals to arrive at the table. This was not our typical experience here so we were very surprised. I had requested this place for my special dinner but this experience totally ruined it. We couldn't eat any of it. Mary the manager came and apologetically took the food away. Went on a Friday night and it was packed. Had reservations so we didnt have to wait. I have to say we had the best waiter Cayton. He was awesome and was soo attentive to us and our needs. We didnt have to ask for refills or anything he was on it. I do have to say I had the best meal I've had at a Cattlemens so far. The steak was cooked to perfection melt in your mouth good. The bread was fresh hot out the oven and so good. Our wings were hot and fall off the bone delicious. Our Peter pan cookie with ice cream was hot out the oven and so ooey gooey goodness. Stopped in again on our way home from Santa Cruz on a Saturday night because we're steak lovers and don't have one near us. Wait was 30 minutes for dining but they had open bar seating we were welcome to. They have a lot of space in the bar and despite being busy, we found an open high top. Our server was Taylor and she was fantastic. Appetizer 5/5 Complimentary bread 5/5 served almost immediately after Taylor took our order. Warm bread, slightly cold butter melted onto it pretty quick. 5/5 Calamari Large serving, crispy and flavorful but batter was surprisingly light with a perfect crunch, absolutely delicious! Both rings and tentacles and one of my new faves. Dipped in the tartar sauce but the cocktail sauce had a hint of horseradish kick to it. 4/5 Brussels crispy and beautifully presented, and well cooked and seasoned with a crisp finish but would've loved a little more sweetness to it. Still super solid. 4/5 All you can eat salad -still love this concept! Didn't finish it so didn't need a refill but the iceberg, onions, croutons and cherry tomatoes were enough. 5/5 Rustler ribeye (14 oz) shared with the hubs. Came with a potato side and baked beans. Got a loaded baked potato and also got a side of mash because fluffy Mel was in charge today and wanted to compare both. Mashed wins! Split between the two of us was still plenty of food. The ribeye was cooked medium rare and had rich flavor and not too much fat. 4/5 Side of mashed potatoes - side serving was a bit small and also served room temp, but it was still good. We both actually preferred it over the baked potato this time. 2/5 side of button mushrooms - there was a bit of a vinegar type of taste to these, where I'd prefer garlic. It was not my favorite but it was only $5 or so, so I'm not bothered by it. I just won't order again. Wanted to get the apple pie or carrot cake but couldn't breathe by the time we packed our leftovers. We'll be back next time we pass again! read more

Cowboy feel. Get there early or call in a reservation it gets busy. Their Happy Hour is legit. (Ribs, potato skins, lamb chops...allll fire) house beer and margarita on point and not pre made! First time to a Cattleman's so was curious to experience eating here. Ordered a martini which was tasty, no complaints. Then the smallest 9oz cut prime rib, medium. It comes with all you can eat sourdough bread and salad both of which were pretty good. However, when they brought out my prime rib, it was clearly not medium more like rare. And was sliced very thin. So I sent it back and I'm not sure how they cooked it more but it came back about half the size as it was before. It was pretty mediocre as far as taste and texture. I must say the service provided was excellent, just the food wasn't all that great. I think Black Angus has them beat. I don't think I'll go back. read more

We decided to give this place another try and glad we did. We were greeted as soon as we came in and were walked to our table. Our server, Caden immediately greeted us and offered us drinks while serving us bread. At this time, we were really impressed. It was so different from our experience before. Caden was cheerful, friendly, professional and so attentive. We didn't have to find him or wait on him. His timing was impeccable. Needless to say our dinner went flawlessly. Now the food, AMAZING! We had calamari and brussel sprouts as appetizers. The calamari was cooked to perfection and the brussel spouts were sooo good. Crispy and tasty. You must get these appetizers. For main, we had ribeye and steak with shrimp scampi. Both were cooked to our liking. Both were so flavorful. Great steaks!!! Salads were fresh and the balsamic vinaigrette was on point. The veggies that came with my entree were also cooked just right. The colors of the veggies were vibrant reflecting their freshness. Now to the dessert. Awesome!! This place is awesome! 5 of us had dinner here Thursday night. The food is so wonderfully delicious! Everyone loved their dinner and only one maybe two of us in the group could finish the gigantic portions you are served! Come hungry to this very welcoming honey place! Great service, prices, and food. My only problems were my steak and the lack of birthday acknowledgment. I ordered steak and scampi. The steak was tough like shoe leather. A manager cam by to check on how we were doing, and I shared my complaint about the steak. She immediately sent it back to the kitchen. Within 5 minutes a new steak was delivered. A million times better! That was great! Secondly, I told our server it was my partners birthday. All the restaurants I've been to have brought out some type of something with a candle in it. Amazing! Our server Bridget was the best. The service was on point, we did not need to ask for anything. We arrive in New Year's Day, party of 3 @ 7:30pm. Sat right away in the main dining area. The decor was good to entertain my 5 year old for a short period of time. Food was great, service was fast and great. Not a lot of options on the menu. Complimentary bread 10/10- warm sourdough bread who can deny. Mozzarella moons- 8/10 not out of the ordinary, best while hot. Potato skins- 8/10 yummy and glad they served with ranch and sour cream. The big house salad and boat off ranch was something that stayed on mind as well. It's been about ~17 years since I've been & the bf's first time. We celebrated a "Fredaversary" (inside joke). Got there about 5:45 on a Friday & the saloon was packed - was hoping to order off the HH menu but no luck! We waited about 10 minutes for a table in the dining area. Service was great! Our server came over and took our drink order fairly quickly. Ordered the Cowboy Cooler and Cattleman's Old Fashioned. Both were delicious. He gave us a couple of minutes to look over the menu & we decided on the original steak dinner for 2: appetizer choice were the Tumbleweed onions (huge portion!), bf got the 14 oz NY strip w/broccoli, I got the steak & shrimp scampi w/sweet potato. We added a side of mushrooms as well. We both requested for medium well & the steaks were perfect. The meal came with dessert (chose the deep fried apple pie) but took it to-go as we were both stuffed. TIP: don't fill up on the sourdough bread like we did! Great service can make a good dinner memorable, and that's exactly what our server Cayden did for us. We were a party of 8, including two children under 4. Cayden handled everything with ease. He was attentive without hovering, checked in with us often, and somehow seemed to anticipate what we needed before we even asked. Our orders changed a couple times throughout the evening (another appetizer here, an extra bowl of salad there, few to-go boxes at the end), and he stayed completely on top of it. Our glasses were always full, everything arrived quickly, and the whole experience felt smooth and relaxed. The food was great too. The fried calamari was crispy and delicious, and the salad was fresh. I was impressed that Cayden even remembered the creamy horseradish i had casually mentioned towards the end of placing our order. Cayden was friendly, warm, and genuinely welcoming the whole evening. It's rare to come across someone so thoughtful. We went in without a reservation and sat in the bar area and were pleasantly surprised. It was quiet! No loud music and we could actually hear each other talking, what a nice change of pace from many restaurants! We decided to get a few beers and the tumbleweed onion. Yum! We shared a New York strip and bacon wrapped shrimp and our son got the Pete's Jrs special with the kids berry smoothie. (Our son mentioned at least 8 times how delicious the smoothie was!) our server was super sweet and our food came out quickly. We went to Cattleman's last night for my husband's birthday. I mentioned to the waitress that it was his birthday. Everybody got their happy birthday song, and my waitress comes back after everyone else in the restaurant get sing happy birthday and says that we're out of ice cream, would you like anything else? I'm thinking why don't you just bring whatever is in the back out? Like if you don't have ice cream just put a brownie and a candle in the thing? My husband doesn't like birthday celebrations, but I wanted something nice for him. It didn't dawn on me until after I went to bed last night that they pulled a bait and switch on my ribeye and gave me a smaller sirloin, yet still charge me $41 dollars for the actual ribeye that was supposed to take over the whole plate. The baked potatoes are a lot smaller than I remembered them being as well. Cutting corners everywhere. They need to hire at least 5-6 more waiters/waitresses. This place is always packed and the staff is ran thin. I won't be coming here for a while, charging me $41 dollars for the ribeye I wanted but giving me a small sirloin instead is underhanded. read more

Had a reservation for 7:45 tonight. Checked in at 7:27. Someone who had a reservation at 8:30 got seated within ten minutes. I asked what was taking so long and Mia said they didn't have a table. Well at 8:15 we got called to be seated. We placed our order immediately. Our appetizers were the last thing to come out because we reminded our waiter about it. The salad came after the appetizer. My husbands steak was not cooked how we asked and my kids meals were so hard and chewy! No apology or anything. Worst part of it all, we came to celebrate my husbands birthday. It was included in the reservation notes but nope, nothing. What a waste of our time and money! What a disappointment. read more

I hope they open a Cattlemans in Marin County, because I LOVE Cattlemens. It's one of the few restaurant chains out there where you leave feeling satisfied because the food is quality, plentiful, and the service is kind and attentive. I love their bread, salad, and drink selection as well, as those are all just the perfect combo to prime before diving into a delicious and well prepared and cooked steak. I like their special that includes a smaller steak, side of your choice (I always upgrade to the twice baked potato because it is DELISH) and it includes a soft drink (diet coke ftw). The seating is comfortable and the ambiance is super duper cozy. The bar area is great for waiting, and there are tvs always playing a current sports game. Bathrooms are clean, parking is plentiful. It's a fantastic chain, and I hope one opens closer to us here in Marin County. read more

It was tender and the au jus made it flavorful, but still a bit over cooked. Thing is last week I asked for a medium Fillet mignon , it came barely medium rare. We ordered 6 oz sirloin with fries and I ordered the 12 oz prime rib $39.99. Our meal came with a crisp green salad with choice of salad dressings. The salad was ample, allowing each two servings and we could have ordered more. Croutons, tomatoes, cucumbers, red onions and cherry tomatoes. Added is a small loaf of warm French bread and butter. Together, Yum! The sirloin steak was cooked perfectly but it wasn't very tender and the meat tasted grizzly. Not ideal. My prime rib was ordered medium and came out medium rare. Totally ok for warming up at home since we were kind of full from salad and bread. Due to the prime rib being undercooked, I didn't get to enjoy during our meal. The sides that were more well done, were flavorful, tender and moist. Adding to the cowboy start are a small bowl of yummy baked beans which come with every meal. The service is efficient and warm. Found this place on the way into Sacramento State for a baseball game 2 weeks ago. Heard great things and was super excited to try as the customer service was something to rave about. It was a Sunday about 5 o'clock and a family of five. We were seated right away which I was impressed because it seemed super busy. Its a little dark inside, it was cute to see all the older customers with their flashlight out to read the menu. We started with the tumbleweed onions, which were of course great cause you can't go wrong with fried onions. Also had the brussels sprouts which were great as well. My son ordered the beef ribs off the kids menu, which were super big and it comes with two. My oldest got the T-bone steak medium well, No complaints. Basic steak. I got the ribeye medium which was good! My husband got the porter house medium. The salad was your typical house salad nothing special. Dressings were okay. The sides were very underwhelming. The ranch beans were lacking flavor and cold, and only one of us got them as they forgot the rest for the table. But we weren't missing them. As for the service, I was super disappointed in. I had high hopes as all the reviews raved about service. We asked our server what the difference between the steaks were and she could not tell us. We just assume the Porterhouse was the best of the best being that it was high on the list. After we received our food, we were never checked back on. Until we asked for our server and no one could find her. Upon eating, my husband steak, was cooked to rare by the time our server came back and we told her our table was pretty much done eating. We showed her the steak she said that she would fix it and they ended up just boxing it up to go as we were all done. What was really the icing on top is when we got home and we opened our boxes. it looked like they just threw his steak on the grill and even included the fatty pieces he had chewed up. We had our anniversary dinner here on a Wednesday night. It was our first time eating here. We were greeted right away and seated shortly after. We did have a reservation so I recommend you make one when you decide to visit. We got to a private and cozy booth. Our server, Tara, welcomed us and recommended our drinks, a Legendary Margarita and the Mojito. She brought us water while we waited. Served us some sourdough. Tara recommended the Rustler Spud with my Cowboy Steak and was not disappointed. It was very creamy and seasoned just right. My lady ordered the steak and bacon wrapped shrimp. Although the shrimp was a little lack luster, it was good. In the middle of our meal, we were surprised with champagne from our server, Tara. We ended the night with a slice of cheesecake. Which was very creamy and fluffy. Highly recommend it. Throughout the night, Tara would come check in on us. We noticed when she would swing by to check on us but would not interrupt us if we were talking. That was really great to experience. Eh, time to update the review and unfortunately not for the better. We live in Dixon, but only come to Cattlemens for special occasions, such as a birthday-altogether maybe 2-3 times per year. Until now, there were times when the service was great and others mediocre, but overall we had no major complaints. Tonight's visit was the worst so far. First thing we noticed were garbage bags and waste (some wood scraps and metal?) just sitting on top of the roof above the entrance. Not great for first impressions. We had no reservations, but it was Monday so we got seated quickly in the back, in the not-so-busy area. Not sure if this is where the non-reservations get seated since the front of the room looked much more lively. Anyway, our server came by shortly and took drink orders. We couldn't help but notice that she was definitely not of legal drinking age, so it didn't come as a surprise that she wasn't knowledgeable about beers they carry on tap. After the drinks, we ordered two appetizers and shortly after put our order in for the main course. Our server brought the salad and the bread, but the appetizers did not come out. She didn't bother to check if we needed anything during the half hour we waited or even tried to explain what is taking so long. About 40 minutes later, we got our main courses. At that time our server realized we didn't even get the appetizers, but instead of an apology, she just concluded that "someone was supposed to bring them" and "generously" offered to take them off the bill. The steak which I ordered medium, was definitely more on a medium-well or even well-done side, to which the server agreed with me and asked if I wanted another. Since I'd hate for the food to go to waste, I said it was fine and I'll take it as is, even though it is not to my liking because I don't want it to end up in trash (hopefully not on top of the roof by entrance). To be clear, I wasn't expecting to be fully comped for the overdone steak (which I was about to eat,) but some sort of a good will gesture-like a free drink-would be welcome. However, that didn't happen and all I got was a blank stare. I can't say this was an utmost terrible experience, but we are definitely used to more from Cattlemens'. Especially because it was a birthday dinner and our server didn't even try to find that out. Young servers are great, as long as they have some experience to lead them and proper training. For ours', seems like she didn't get either. It might've been just a bad night or we were unlucky to have an inexperienced server, but definitely won't hurry back to Cettlemens' after tonight's experience. The salad was delicious with very fresh vegetables and what tasted like homemade ranch (amazing). We got the artichoke dip with seasoned chips delicious as well. Fresh bread was warm and fluffy. Now why I gave them 3 stars...I got the "9oz" prime rib, ya right. It was the smallest prime rib I ever saw I finished it in 5 bites more like 6oz raw, 4 1/2 oz cooked. That was a joke portion made for kids. Secondly the wife ordered the 14oz sirloin Medium. It came out well done. I think if your a steak house you need to have this down to a science. Now people make mistakes however, it took so long for our food to come out and the times that by 2 because we had to wait for our re-order. We were extremely tired and full by the time my wife's steak came out. The steak was cooked perfectly and tasted delicious. Nice and charred. The place was pretty busy and the ambiance is like an old school steak place with a large bar area where you can seat yourself at either the bar or tables. This gets crowded because if there's a wait for the dining room, people start stalking the bar tables. It was very busy after 5:00 pm with a significant wait. I had an idea of how this place was going to be after seeing them around the various cities I travel through. I ordered the sirloin steak medium rare with Dungeness crab. Much like Texas Longhorns and Black Angus, there's a 50\50 chance they will not cook it properly. It was overcooked to medium. The steak had enough seasoning where it wasn't bad but definitely could have been cooked better. The crab wasn't bad but a little dry. The steamed veggies that I got with it were cooked nicely just the way I like it. Not overcooked, with a little bite to it. The service was a little off in the bar because they were overwhelmed and my wine finally came after I had three bites left of my steak. I would say the value would be hard to beat for what I got. My entree was $30. It also came with endless salad and a side of beans too. If you're looking for a great value for a decent steak then this is the place for you. From the moment we sat down, she was incredibly attentive, communicative, and kind. She checked in at all the right times, made sure everything was perfect, and went above and beyond to make us feel taken care of. Tara has such a warm and friendly personality, and you can tell she truly cares about her guests' experience. i came with a party of 15ish to celebrate a birthday. our server was amazing! i think her name was angelina, she was super helpful & sweet. i ordered the tumbleweed onions as an appetizer & it seemed like there was more batter than onion. i don't eat meat & it is obviously a steakhouse so my boyfriend & i ordered the salmon dish & mushroom ravioli dish to share with one another. each dish costed $30 and the portions were incredibly small for the price. although, the mushroom was really good! i had a side of steam vegetables & they were pretty basic & tasteless. the ranch was super watery. boyfriend & i shared a brownie sundae, that was probably the best part of the meal. overall underwhelming experience. read more

The ambience, traditional decoration, super cozy and warm atmosphere - loved it! Food... unbelievable tasty, great portions and delicious. I hate to have to be writing this review. Cattleman's has been the touchstone of a 'treat meal' forever for me. This meal should have been better - doubly so due to the price. Large salad came for two persons. Very sparse - lettuce, cucumbers (wife removed those from hers), croutons and tomatoes (we removed both), onions (too many) and dressing. No beans, beets, nothing (might have had one other item, but it was as plain as shown in one of the previous reviews). Surprisingly plain. Wife had a Chicken dish (it was good) with a side of broccoli (dead cold). I had the Prime Rib cooked medium- always a slam dunk here. I started cutting on it and it wouldn't cut. I thought that I had a dull serrated steak knife, but I had to saw each piece of my Prime Rib. I then chewed and chewed each piece. What the heck? Didn't complain, but .......(sobbing)....I won't be back. Other recent reviews has shown that Cattleman's is slipping and for the money we spent, I'm going to be trying other places. read more

I have visited Cattlemens for 30 years all locations. Had a birthday dinner for 2 friends and it was a little disappointing. You can only order happy hour drinks and food in the bar which I have mobility issues and it was frustrating. My prime rib wasn't as flavored as usual and my two friend's rib eye was pretty dry. It's frustrating because I raved about this place and the experience wasn't great. Pretty disappointed. read more

Every time I go to Cattlemens in Dixon, I leave satisfied! First came a few years ago for my birthday & I haven't been able to get prime rib at any other restaurant since. Lovely, intimate mood lighting for casual nights out or for the whole family! Fast, friendly, and personable service no matter what section of the restaurant you're seated in. If you have issues or are running late for your reservation, most times the staff can help you change it over the phone with no problem! Let's not forget the excellent managers that make sure all your needs are met. Been happily bringing friends & family here and don't plan on stopping now! read more
