    New Buckhorn in Dixon CA!
    Hallie W.

We went to the new Buckhorn in Dixon for lunch. When you walk in you are greeted warmly by staff. The menu is and LED screen on the back wall, easy to read. They have open seating and give you a table number to place at the table. Orders are typically brought out with in about 15mins. Dining is very casual. Seating includes bar seating, tables and booths. There are 2 TVs available for customers to enjoy. They had a baseball game on. While it is casual, it seems that during evening hours the lighting could create a bit more intimate experience. They also have a patio area for dining with umbrellas for shade. I had the TriTip Buck sandwich. I chose 6oz option for the meat. I opted for onions on the side and some Cole slaw as the side. The TriTip was tender! I tried the dipping sauces and enjoyed the smokehouse and sweet n spicy ones. The mustard one was a bit on the vinegar side for me. My husband enjoyed the Bacon Cheddar Buck sandwich. This is a great place to grab lunch!

Buckhorn BBQ + Grill is a nice addition to Dixon. Buckhorn is a local chain or restaurants known for their meats - specifically their tri tip. I gave this location a visit during a weekday lunch to see how the food was. Here, you walk in and up to the counter to order. The menu is easily seen on the screens above and behind the cashier or using a physical menu that they provide. There are many options that you can select from - meats, sandwiches, salads, etc. Because Buckhorn is known for their meats I chose to get a 2 protein combination plate that came with my choice of 2 sides and a corn muffin. I thought this would be best so I could see how 2 of their proteins were. I chose the ribs and the tri tip. Both were well prepared and seasoned. I also found that the portion was generous. The ribs were huge and would have probably just filled me up by themselves. It was a whole rack or ribs with a nice char on the top. These ribs were very flavorful and fun to eat. You can also add a number of different sauces to it if you want. Just go to the condiment station to get whatever you like. They have their regular BBQ sauce as well as a spicier option and a couple of others. The tri tip was also great. You can select how you would like the temperature on the meat to be when you order. I found it to be quite tender and with the addition of some of their sauces, it was very enjoyable. For the sides I wanted to try their beans as well as onion rings. Of the two, I preferred the onion rings. The onion rings were crispy and came with ranch. The beans, in my opinion, were too hearty for this already large meal. I found that they would fill you up too quickly and be the last thing you wanted to go for on the plate. If I had a choice again I'd probably skip those and try a different side. Because this is a place that serves a good deal of meat, I found that the price is a little higher than most. The quality is there, but just keep in mind the prices you see on the menu.

    Tri tip cooked medium.

Super excited to see Buckhorn open on the way home from work. Finally made it in to pick up an order and it was placed on the app. The order was made on time and the greeting was friendly. It was ready as soon as I walked in. I should have checked it before I walked out. I ordered medium. It looked closer to well. I came back and asked if that was what they considered medium. I know that the temperature should be universal but considering the meat the style of cook the establishment itself I figured I'd ask so in the future I'll order medium-rare. The employee who was at the counter said he didn't know anything about that. He likes his well anyway so he wasn't sure maybe that is medium? No problem dude. Thanks, you only work there. I should not expect that an employee of a BBQ restaurant knows what a specific temperature is or looks like for their establishments standards. I know you might think it was also to go and if it sits and steams in the container maybe change the temperature well it said ready in 15 minutes I should up in ten. It did not sit there for long. It may have been sitting their warmer but not in the container it also have steam whole to release it from the container. Any how, that's for the friendly welcome.

Perfectly done Tri-tip, au jus, bbq sauce, Mac and Cheese, and Mashed potatoes left overs for another day!

We have been waiting for the Buckhorn BBQ + Grill to open for many months. We happened to see they were doing their soft opening starting tonight and took the opportunity to give them an early try. We decided to do take-out, as it was over 90* outside and we had our pup with us. Upon arrival, I noticed they do have a nice pet-friendly outside eating area, but it was just a little too hot and breezy out for our comfort. As I entered the place, I was greeted by a number of friendly and inviting employees. You place your order at the counter as you enter, and if eating in, find a table to sit where they deliver your food to your table. I ordered the Feast for Two. We opted for the Caesar salad, Jalapeño cheddar cornbread muffins, Roasted garlic mashed potatoes with gravy, Mac & Cheese, and for the two proteins we chose medium-rare Tri-tip. While waiting, I took a look around the restaurant. The fixtures were nice, the tables clean and staff very friendly. They have a self-serve soda fountain next to dispensers of bbq sauces and ketchup. The food took approximately 15 minutes to be prepared, which for the first night is pretty fast. Upon arriving home with our food, we unpacked the bag and everything we ordered was just as requested. The Caesar salad was plentiful, but could have used more dressing. The Jalapeño cheddar cornbread muffins were so very moist and full of flavor. The Mac & cheese and Roasted garlic mashed potatoes and gravy were both great. The two proteins of Tri-tip came with seven thick pieces of meat, with a side of au jus and horseradish. The food was excellent and the meat was medium rare as requested. They provided an appropriate amount of bbq sauces for the meat and butter for the muffins. We definitely will be back to try the Piggy Tuesday special in the next couple of weeks. I highly recommend giving this brand new restaurant a chance! Unfortunately, we did not take any photos before we enjoyed our meal, but took a couple of photos of what we still have as leftovers. Yum!

So I ordered chicken platter barbecue I picked it up you get a quart of chicken look like it was just one chicken drumstick so I told him I didn't want that and went back and got another piece said oh you can have both anyway thank you give him a nice little tip then when I get home I said let me check this let me cut this chicken up here the first piece of chicken they gave me it look like it had died and they try to bring it back to life and the second piece that they gave me to replace that smell like old chicken

Tuesday around 4pm ended up being the perfect time to slip in, avoid the crowds, and actually get to chat with Scotty about the menu. Since it was our first time here, we appreciated his food and drink recommendations, and he absolutely steered us right. We sat in the decked-out "Library" room, which felt like stepping into an old-school den with deep red leather sofas, bookshelves, and an impressive collection of art and decor. Overall, a fantastic experience. The icing on the cake was the service, which was truly top shelf. Every community has those people who become part of what makes it special, Scotty is clearly one of those people. Can't wait to come back and try more of the menu.

We had the short ribs as Chef's special and it was delicious and tender. You don't need a steak knife. We also got the Jambalaya pasta and the spice is just about right! Plenty protein in that plate. I'd say - there was even amount of pasta and protein so I would say it was worth your money. I like the place being casual and cozy. The idea of separating the bar from the dining area is good. Was nice that there is outdoor seating as well. Small city parking may be a challenge when it gets busy but who doesn't like to walk a little after hearty meal, huh? This would be nice place to bring good friends for a nice dinner or just a quick catch up afternoon liquid refreshments. They also have 4 tv at the bar area. Must be great during sports watching! We were great customers eating there twice a week. She should be fired, but she won't because the manager didn't give a crap. We now go to Cattlemens, Dawson's or Jacky's which is a block away. Full bar and excellent customer service. They serve American food as well. You know, we asked for the manager and she was said to be too busy and it would take a couple days to get a call back. Well, that never happened. Food is not very good, always over cooked. Waiters other than Brandi are great. So manager doesn't manage! Either doesn't care or doesn't have time for the customer. She followed us out the door yelling don't come back. Enough said! The food has fallen way down. Way down!!!! 1 star at best. Everything is over cooked. Yet, we kept going because of the atmosphere and service. Brandi killed that. Have you ever been told you complain too much, get out and don't come back. What a great example. We were on name basis with the waiters. That's why we kept coming. It wasn't the food. Let me be clear, the rest of the staff were amazing. Have you ever been barred by a waitress. She was mean and vindictive. This place is on a downward spiral. Find another place. If I could give less than a star, I would. Thanks, Brandi. We found new places.

As far as the food, I have to say the fish and chips far exceeded what I expected. The beer batter coated all over the fresh cod was fantastic and fried perfect. Their beef hot dog is basic but very tasty with the slight sear. And I decided to try their funfetti cake milkshake which was their current flavor of the month. That tasted just like a birthday cake and was so delicious. There's plenty of seating outside where you can enjoy your food and hang out. It was early, around 4:00 p.m., and there were only two people dining inside. They agreed and eventually placed two tables together indoors. My thought was, why was this not offered from the beginning, especially given the heat and how empty the restaurant was? The ambiance was great, but unfortunately, the food was not. I ordered a salad with chicken. The salad was very skimpy, with only two thin slices of apple, two small orange slices, very little feta, and mostly lettuce. The chicken portion was extremely small and was served separately on a plate rather than sliced and placed on the salad as ordered. The other dishes were also small and underwhelming. The burger and fries were nothing special, and the spaghetti was plain and lacked flavor. If you are looking for great ambiance, this may be a nice place to visit. But if you are looking for great food, you may want to consider other options. For a great burger, I would recommend Buckhorn instead. It costs less and is much better.
