Buckhorn is a favorite restaurant chain. From the original in Winters to the smaller, newer versions like this one in Dixon, the food quality is consistently good. I'm currently doing intermittent fasting with keto. So, I was close to ordering the Mediterranean salad, but at the last moment, switched to my usual tri-tip bites medium rare, with an iced tea. Walk in and you're right at the ordering counter, greeted promptly by the cashier eager to take your order. Place your order prior to finding your seat, and then get your drinks and bbq sauces. You get a drink cup at the counter, and the fountain is in the back by the bbq sauces and ketchup. There's ample seating and the meals are hearty. The meal for 2 can feed up to 3-4 if you're not that hungry. We tried their Tri tip and ribs two protein meal, neither disappointed. The cornbread muffins were tiny, wish there were more of them since you devour them in a bite. The sweet potato waffle fries were tasty, as was the mashed potatoes. Inside was a sterile environment, clean, but bare. I was happy to see all the tables were cleaned quickly, with no sticky mess left behind. Overall it's pretty good bbq, especially the ribs. Nice to see California finally get some decent bbq. That's this critic's review, until next time, I'll be eating. read more

My husband, & I came here for Happy Hour Fri 9/25 around 4:45pm. It was definitely more crowded on a Fri night. We ordered 2 Buckhorn Hazy beers $6ea.hh which were both cold and filled to the top of the glass. We both ordered my favorite Crispy Fish Tacos $10ea, which were yummy as usual. I always get mine with just Granny Smith Slaw, and a side of Ranch since I'm not a fan of spicy food. My husband enjoyed his FREE Burnt Ends for singing up online 1 year ago. We also got an order of OG Fries $8hh, which were good, but seemed like they had been sitting for a bit, so they weren't as hot as they could have been. I've been a fan of Buckhorn for almost 25 years from their Winters Steakhouse to one of their BBQ & Grill locations in Vacaville. This one in Dixon just opened up a month or so ago, so I decided to go there for lunch. The restaurant is pretty spacious and also offers outdoor seating. It was a light busy lunch rush with plenty of seating still available. We ordered at the register first before taking our number and grabbing a table. The cashiers and servers there were very friendly and courteous. My Bacon Cheddar Buck sandwich was great! The tri tip was tender and sliced thin; it had great flavor. The bacon was pleasant and thr red ranch sauce inside was really good. I think if I got this sandwich again I'd get it without the cheese. The cheddar was fine, but I thought the others stood on their own. Overall, I enjoyed my first experience at the Dixon location; and it's good to know there's another dining option (and BBQ option) in town. read more

We went to the new Buckhorn in Dixon for lunch. When you walk in you are greeted warmly by staff. The menu is and LED screen on the back wall, easy to read. They have open seating and give you a table number to place at the table. Orders are typically brought out with in about 15mins. Dining is very casual. Seating includes bar seating, tables and booths. There are 2 TVs available for customers to enjoy. They had a baseball game on. While it is casual, it seems that during evening hours the lighting could create a bit more intimate experience. They also have a patio area for dining with umbrellas for shade. I had the TriTip Buck sandwich. I chose 6oz option for the meat. I opted for onions on the side and some Cole slaw as the side. The TriTip was tender! I tried the dipping sauces and enjoyed the smokehouse and sweet n spicy ones. The mustard one was a bit on the vinegar side for me. My husband enjoyed the Bacon Cheddar Buck sandwich. Buckhorn BBQ + Grill is a nice addition to Dixon. Buckhorn is a local chain or restaurants known for their meats - specifically their tri tip. I gave this location a visit during a weekday lunch to see how the food was. Here, you walk in and up to the counter to order. The menu is easily seen on the screens above and behind the cashier or using a physical menu that they provide. There are many options that you can select from - meats, sandwiches, salads, etc. Because Buckhorn is known for their meats I chose to get a 2 protein combination plate that came with my choice of 2 sides and a corn muffin. I thought this would be best so I could see how 2 of their proteins were. I chose the ribs and the tri tip. Both were well prepared and seasoned. I also found that the portion was generous. The ribs were huge and would have probably just filled me up by themselves. It was a whole rack or ribs with a nice char on the top. These ribs were very flavorful and fun to eat. You can also add a number of different sauces to it if you want. Just go to the condiment station to get whatever you like. They have their regular BBQ sauce as well as a spicier option and a couple of others. The tri tip was also great. You can select how you would like the temperature on the meat to be when you order. I found it to be quite tender and with the addition of some of their sauces, it was very enjoyable. For the sides I wanted to try their beans as well as onion rings. Of the two, I preferred the onion rings. The onion rings were crispy and came with ranch. The beans, in my opinion, were too hearty for this already large meal. I found that they would fill you up too quickly and be the last thing you wanted to go for on the plate. If I had a choice again I'd probably skip those and try a different side. Because this is a place that serves a good deal of meat, I found that the price is a little higher than most. The quality is there, but just keep in mind the prices you see on the menu. read more

We have been waiting for the Buckhorn BBQ + Grill to open for many months. We happened to see they were doing their soft opening starting tonight and took the opportunity to give them an early try. We decided to do take-out, as it was over 90* outside and we had our pup with us. Upon arrival, I noticed they do have a nice pet-friendly outside eating area, but it was just a little too hot and breezy out for our comfort. As I entered the place, I was greeted by a number of friendly and inviting employees. You place your order at the counter as you enter, and if eating in, find a table to sit where they deliver your food to your table. I ordered the Feast for Two. We opted for the Caesar salad, Jalapeño cheddar cornbread muffins, Roasted garlic mashed potatoes with gravy, Mac & Cheese, and for the two proteins we chose medium-rare Tri-tip. While waiting, I took a look around the restaurant. The fixtures were nice, the tables clean and staff very friendly. They have a self-serve soda fountain next to dispensers of bbq sauces and ketchup. The food took approximately 15 minutes to be prepared, which for the first night is pretty fast. Upon arriving home with our food, we unpacked the bag and everything we ordered was just as requested. The Caesar salad was plentiful, but could have used more dressing. The Jalapeño cheddar cornbread muffins were so very moist and full of flavor. The Mac & cheese and Roasted garlic mashed potatoes and gravy were both great. The two proteins of Tri-tip came with seven thick pieces of meat, with a side of au jus and horseradish. The food was excellent and the meat was medium rare as requested. They provided an appropriate amount of bbq sauces for the meat and butter for the muffins. We definitely will be back to try the Piggy Tuesday special in the next couple of weeks. I highly recommend giving this brand new restaurant a chance! Unfortunately, we did not take any photos before we enjoyed our meal, but took a couple of photos of what we still have as leftovers. Super excited to see Buckhorn open on the way home from work. Finally made it in to pick up an order and it was placed on the app. The order was made on time and the greeting was friendly. It was ready as soon as I walked in. I should have checked it before I walked out. I ordered medium. It looked closer to well. I came back and asked if that was what they considered medium. I know that the temperature should be universal but considering the meat the style of cook the establishment itself I figured I'd ask so in the future I'll order medium-rare. The employee who was at the counter said he didn't know anything about that. He likes his well anyway so he wasn't sure maybe that is medium? No problem dude. Thanks, you only work there. I should not expect that an employee of a BBQ restaurant knows what a specific temperature is or looks like for their establishments standards. I know you might think it was also to go and if it sits and steams in the container maybe change the temperature well it said ready in 15 minutes I should up in ten. It did not sit there for long. Cheese burger was good and cooked "pink". We left the tacos and split the cheese burger. Had a hazy beer & buckhorn classic margarita which was well balanced. The place is clean and very large, with booths, tables & chairs would be a good place for large groups or parties. The staff was very polite & friendly. But No one wears a name tag.The servers bring the food over and just drops it off and walks away ,Doesn't ask if need anything else.We ordered there try of food and never brought plates for us to eat on. The servers stand at the kitchen with there backs to you.We and other people had to get up from our table and ask for plates...no one ever comes by and checks on you..if you need something. The pulled pork tacos are always a must for me and this time they were spot on!! The staff were so friendly, smiling and courteous.I really like the way the opened up feel of this location. I was excited to finally have Buckhorn Barbecue & Grill open in Dixon and wanted to support a new local business. Unfortunately, my first experience was very disappointing. I ordered two sandwiches and, when I got home, both were extremely greasy. The sandwiches looked rushed and poorly assembled, as if they were thrown together as quickly as possible. There was so much grease that it seemed like the food had been soaked in it. Honestly, it was difficult to eat. I understand that a new restaurant opening can be very busy, but being busy is not an excuse for sending out food that doesn't meet basic quality standards. Before handing an order to a customer, someone should take a moment to ensure the food is presented properly and is something they would be willing to eat themselves. I had been looking forward to having a restaurant like this in town, so this was especially disappointing. First impressions matter, and based on this experience, I'm not sure I will return. I hope management takes customer feedback seriously and improves quality control because Dixon deserves a great local restaurant, and I would like to see them succeed. read more

Well, I usually enjoyed the food at Buckhorn, but that was at their Vacaville location. Since I lived in Dixon, I tried the new location. First service was a little slow and I noticed several orders on their ready line. Maybe because it was 3pm, they didn't have enough staffing. Second my Tri-Tip was a look too salty. I told the server about it and he replied "I heard that before." Not a good answer to a customer. I'm glad I was using my rewards to pay for the meal.
