On the recommendation of the counter staff, I ordered the Chicken Breast Classic sandwich, and I ordered fries with no salt (that's a dietary thing, and a secret way to get fries straight out of the fryer). OMG - the sandwich was almost perfect and the fries were perfect. If I were serving that sandwich to guests, I'd ask if they wanted the chicken breast cold or warmed slightly. As noted from other reviewers, the "sourdough" roll is shaped as a round bun which is not as I thought it would arrive. It also didn't have a traditional sourdough tang or texture. We've been regular customers of this Urban Jack's location for years, but unfortunately this visit ended that relationship. On Monday, May 4th, my wife and I decided to grab dinner. My wife used the restroom while I waited near the entrance. Once we both walked in the manager (around 6'2", beard), from behind the counter told us very abruptly: "If you want to order anything it has to be to go, because we close in 10 minutes. If you want fries, order them now because they take 10 minutes to make." The way this was communicated was not professional or welcoming--it came across as rude and dismissive. There was no greeting, just a sharp directive. Despite this, we went ahead and placed a to‑go order for a tri‑tip sandwich and a Greek salad and paid. I completely understand that businesses have closing times and need to clean and wrap up for the night. That's reasonable. What's not reasonable is speaking to long‑time customers, or any customer, in such an unkind, abrupt manner. A little courtesy goes a long way. Because of this experience, we won't be returning. The Flowerchild salad - love the dressing, the farro, sweet potato, and everything about it. As a fried chicken sandwich enthusiast, I would not recommend ordering that here. The presentation of sandwich cut in half and arranged askew back bun to front bun had no positive contributing factor - I reassembled sandwich for the photo. Having it cut in half is helpful for people who want to save the other half for later though. The chicken patty isn't crispy, and is reminiscent of school lunches. Stick with the salads. I had never been to Jack's Urban Eats before but a friend suggested that we try it. We arrived as they opened at 11:30 a.m. on a Monday. There was already a pretty long line at the counter to order. We placed our orders and found a table. The dining room is pretty large with tables for two and four. There is a beverage counter on the side. That's also where you pick up utensils and napkins. I was trying to decide between the Jack's Classic oven-roasted turkey sandwich and the Pesto chicken sandwich and chose the Classic because it came on a sourdough roll, as opposed to ciabatta. I was in the mood for sourdough. I was a bit disappointed with my sandwich. The "caramelized onions" were barely cooked. The turkey was fresh, but a bit flavorless. The roll was not sourdough. I think it was a brioche roll. Soft and bland. Rather like the entire sandwich. My friend said her Create Your Own salad was an A+. Grilled Halloumi ($12.95, Grade A) - Halloumi cheese (you're not alone - I've never heard of it), crispy zucchini, avocado, pickled red onions, roasted bells, arugula, creamy dill dressing, and sriracha mayo in a brioche bun. They cheese is sliced to about a 1/2 thick and then they bread it and fry it so it has a nice textural component. The cheese itself is mild so it pairs well with all the other ingredients to make a great bite. My only knock on the sandwich is the brioche bread. I appreciate that it had toasted tops, but the bread was a little dry. Not like it was stale bread and they were trying to hide it by toasting. I think the sandwich would be better off with a bread that has a chewy inside to give it more substance. The Flower Child ($13.50, Grade C) - arugula, superfood greens, farro, spiced chickpeas, sweet potato, avocado, pickled red onion, caramelized seeds, with hot honey harissa (hot chili paste) vinaigrette. Individually, I love all these ingredients. Where I got thrown off is the seasoning. Guessing it was the spiced chickpeas and the harissa vinaigrette - combining these gave the salad curry overtones. But, if you're craving that, you'll really dig into this salad because again, individually each ingredient was nice. I especially enjoyed the caramelized seeds and the full avocado. Bottom line - if you want a salad you can personalize, this is your place. Friendly service and generous portions. I don't have a photo of the item, but I have eaten their Mac and Cheese ($5.75). We got the Salmon Plate, Grilled Halloumi Sandwich, and a side of small Urban Fries. The fries have chili oil, chili flakes, and blue cheese. It was surprisingly not too spicy! The Halloumi Sandwich was really yummy! It was super flavorful and the bread was very light. The salmon was a little small but still filled me up in the end. Jacks has something for everyone. To start there are plenty of vegetarian and vegan options, especially with the build your own salads. But the menu covers all its bases with burgers, Mac and cheese, roasted veggies of any kind, sandwiches, grain bowls, and fancy lemonades. I've never been disappointed by their baked tofu, which has a balsamic vinaigrette marinade, and all of the cooked veggies available to put on salads are to die for. I don't eat meat, but my boyfriend is a big fan of their buffalo chicken burger, and I've heard good things from my parents about their sandwiches whenever they visit. Salads are made super fast, sometimes you have to wait longer for other items but they bring the food to you, and the ordering process at the counter is fast and simple. They did forget to put edamame on my salad this time around, but it was still good even if it wasn't exactly what I ordered. And I can't leave out how much I love the interior- something about a huge light-up sign and cozy little booths makes me feel right at home. This is my first time reviewing Jack's Urban Eats, however, I've been here multiple times over the years and the food never disappoints! I came here for lunch with some co-workers. It was busy as usual when we stepped inside at around 12:15 PM. This isn't the type of restaurant where you sit down and they wait on you (partially true). You have to order at the counter and they give you a number to place on your table so the waiter/waitress knows where you're sitting when your food is ready. I browsed the menu and decided on the Cajun Chicken Sandwich. Then, when it came to seating, most of the tables were taken as lunchtime is normally busy. We decided to sit at a 4-seated table in the middle of the restaurant. My Cajun chicken sandwich with fries was ready in no time. I waited about five-seven minutes and the waitress delivered it to our table, along with the other dishes. The Cajun chicken sandwich was not too spicy, but very flavorful and moist. The fries were good too- just typical fries. In my previous visits, I've had many of their other delicious items on their menu and I've always been completely satisfied every time. I've been to Jack's many times and was so disappointed by my experience this time. This was my first time at the Davis location. They had plenty of seating and it wasn't very busy. The girl who took our order was very nice and accommodating. If I only ordered the BYO Salad my review would be much higher. My dad ordered the BBQ Tri Tip Sandwich with no Mayo & onions - we had to send it back two times. We asked for no avocado on the Turkey Club but it came with it anyways. All of our meals came out cold. I love Jacks and will return for their salads but I'd have a hard time recommending other menu items. I probably won't return to this location. read more

Now I know jacks can be expensive but in my experience, worth it. I'm not the reviewer kinda gal but I had really high hopes because of the Sacramento location and was really let down. I was at work and really not feeling well so I went for the money... a Chargrilled Tri Tip plate with Mac and Cheese and Mashed potatoes for $17.95. (Price was also misleading) They were speedy about prep (and delivery), that is where they get their first star from; I doubt they have any control over the promptness of their delivery. Tri tip wasn't dry (that's where the second star comes from) but totally flavorless like everything else. The Mac and cheese had no cheese at all they were just buttered noodles(perhaps they mixed up a kid meal? Because there was hardly even butter on them) and lastly the mash potatoes were dry, even the gravy couldn't salvage it. Also things to mention: this location is 0.2 miles away from my work where it was delivered, arrived in less than 20 minutes and all 3 items were cold making me thing none of it was fresh( they couldn't even have tried to microwave it!?). And last note, it came with no eating utensils or napkins. All in all it was a very dry experience that left a dry taste in my mouth and resulted in my leaving work early due to nausea. I ordered a delivery from the restaurants website. I got a bunch of different items but one of my biggest complaints is that they put the sauce containers inside the box with my kids chicken tenders. Since they biodegradable they were all melt and soft and the ranch was hot. Pretty gross!!! My second issue was with my Urban fries they had way to much pepper flakes every fry was literally covered in it. You couldn't taste the blue cheese dressing or any other flavor and I really like spicy food. But it just completely through off the balance of the dish. I've been going to Jack's Urban Eats for years. I live the ambiance and the food is amazing. The food always tastes fresh and is quick! They have a lot of comfort food options and my personal favorite is the blackened chicken with mango salsa. I will say that it's always a little disappointing that it is not at all "blackened" but it tastes so great, I always end up ordering it again. It is a little pricey since it does not come with sides, but it's also delicious and you will be craving it again. The only reason for the 4 star instead of 5 is because the woman working the counter during my last two visits has been rude and impatient. All the other employees are always friendly and helpful, but I'm not sure why she seems to have some issue with customers. I will say that we ordered twice on the same visit last time because my daughter wanted more mashed potatoes and I tipped above and beyond what I would usually tip both times hoping to make her day better but it did not seem to help. read more

For 15 dollars you'd hope the sandwich is at least half of your palm, the portioning seems almost child like. This sandwich includes "caramelized" onions, is the caramelized in the room with us? They have no char and are soggy as if they've been steamed. The sandwich is bland and lacks any seasoning or flavor. Highly disappointed and will not be coming back. Today 07/27/2021 first time I order online or come to eat here post Covid time, I had a steak salad and a side of fried. There was a lot of onion for one salad, next time I'll ask for less. Ordered online at 11:52 and got a text at 12pm my food was ready. Walked to the register in less than 30 seconds an employee very nice lady helped me and I was out the door within the minute. My wife and I have been Davis Jack's Urban Eats customers for some years. Generally speaking we like the food. However, on our last visit we went with friends to eat and chat, get caught up. However, the music was so loud and strident we had to ask the staff to lower the volume. We were told this was not in their control. Now we will have to find another location to eat, meet up with friends and have an enjoyable experience. Unfortunately we cannot have that at Jack's. That's a shame. Our friends here in Davis have made the same comment. Sad! Also have to add the staff is brusque in its actions and the attitude is unfriendly toward customers. My boyfriend used to work right next to Jack's and RAVED about it. After looking at the menu and seeing homestyle favorites like Turkey, Mashed Potatoes, and Mac & Cheese, I figured I had to try it. Unfortunately, it didn't live up to the hype. Even my 2 stars feels a bit generous based on the food I had. The turkey was dry and flavorless and such a disappointment. They didn't offer gravy on it (and I didn't realize I needed to ask), so it came out plain and bland. It didn't taste like there was any type of seasoning at all. The mac & cheese tasted like plain noodles. The cheesy sauce topped the macaroni so lightly that it was barely detectable at all. The only thing that was good was the mashed potatoes and gravy.
