I used to enjoy Paesanos, but my latest order was a huge disappointment. I ordered a cheese pizza with mushrooms, and they charge $1.25 for a single topping, yet the quality was nowhere near worth the price. I've ordered from Paesanos before, so I know what they're capable of. Unfortunately, today's pizza wasn't even close and the biggest issue was that the pizza was undercooked. The cheese barely had any color, the center wasn't baked, and the whole pizza looked rushed. Comparing it to my June 14 order, the difference is obvious. The difference in quality speaks for itself. When we arrived to meet my son for dinner, we were greeted and seated. The place was semi busy. The waitress greeted us and asked if we were ready to order, we just sat down, of course not. We finally ordered water and an appetizer while we waited for my son. He finally arrived and we sat there for another 20 minutes until the waitress decided to come back and take our order. She wasn't the most friendliest, seemed to be a bit irritated and you could hear her nect to the bar talking w the other waiters complaining about customers. Our food took forever to arrive and I could see other people waiting for service also and water which was taking forever. The food finally arrived. The appetizerbruschetta was good, and husband liked his calzone, everything else was mediocre. While we were sitting there still eating, the waitress had the audacity to come by our table and didn't just put down but almost a flung, slid boxes in the middle our table- we all looked at one another, like? That was a turn off, because it wasn't even close to closing time, we were still eating after waiting for the food. So we just left, my fiancé thought that was extremely rude of her, didn't even ask us if we wanted the boxes, just came over and tossed them onto the table. Rude.. I also had asked her for a fork earlier and she reponded with a disgusted face and a (what?) I used the restroom also which wasn't the cleanest. Manager contacted me, very professional and was obviously not content about the outcome and review. I came here around 5:30PM with a friend on a Friday night, and we got the last empty table before people started waiting in line for a table. By the time we finished dinner, there was more than an hour wait for seating. Service was on the slower side due to the rush, but we still received our food in a timely manner. Combination Pizza: I loved the combo of toppings including their pepperoni and mushroom, and the slices were thin and had a cris and chewy crust. The pizza was flavorful without being too heavy. So to start off this is a place where you should do reservation in advance. If no reservation, you're looking at a 30 minute wait at least. Service here for us was pretty good. ( I will add we were a large party of 6.) The waiter apologized for the wait and the waitress made a few good recommendations on food. We tried their meatball for appetizers as well as their fried ravioli and Boca balls. (Not pictured because we devoured them.) The Bocca balls were tasty and the ravioli was super good! But the meatballs were delish!!! I ordered their baked pasta without the bolognese and the pasta was okay I felt it needed meat which was recommended by the waitress but I decided to get it without it. (My fault.) However the other pastas everyone else got were really good! I would probably order a different one next time around. There were 6 of us so we had a pretty big order. However the shocker for all of us was the tab was reasonable, we paid around $130 for all the plates and drinks! We even had to do a double take! But no everything is that reasonably priced here. Would definitely recommend! My sister went to UC Davis, and this was a staple whenever we came to visit. I went to a Kings game last week and decided to stop by again. We started with the polenta sticks, which were very yummy and unique. They were super crispy. We also ordered a salad that was fresh and delicious, and the balsamic dressing was especially tasty. I got the vodka pasta and finished the entire thing. It was a little sweet, but super cheesy and yummy. The garlic bread that came with it was crispy and delicious. My mom and sister both got the shrimp scampi, since this is the restaurant that originally made them fall in love with the dish. The vibe of the restaurant is just alright, and the service could be a little nicer, but that does not take away from the great food and great prices. Favorite pasta spot in the Northern California area. This location is fun. Patio seating made for a great date night with my fiancé (even tho she forgot her ring at home). I love this places food. living in Davis we don't have any good Italian restaurants. The chicken Parmesan sandwich is my favorite. The fried raviolis I feel like personally had too much spinach in it. Maybe they should switch them to meat (usually fried raviolis are my favorite dish). Anyways, I usually do to go or DoorDash and they would get five stars but every time I order on DoorDash, I have to call because they do not have the mozzarella garlic bread on the menu, which is really odd AND MY FAVORITE with a tomato soup. I have to call for them to add it and do a random charge through DoorDash. The service is always good people always answer the phones however I have never dined in. When I did a pick up once the ambience was more fast paced and a little busy.. Have only been to this location once for a celebration dinner with a larger group of people. The restaurant was able to get us all seated and our server was very attentive! The restaurant is clean, nicely decorated, and there is seating inside and outsides. The only issue with this location is the parking which the restaurant has no control over. If you plan to come during a busier time you may have to walk a bit but that's the nature of a downtown area. I knew what to expect food wise since I've been to the location in Sacramento. The food was good and filling. I had gotten the spaghetti carbonara and the sauce was delicious, the pasta had a firmness to it more than other restaurants, and the bread was garlicky and crispy. The perfect Italian spot, me and my college BFF met up for dinner and we sat outside so we didn't have to wait an hour, it was a little cold and no heaters. We started with a large Caesar salad and added chicken (so good!), bocce balls (nice and doughy and chewy with cheese and oil), we probably could have shared one pasta together but I was carb loading for a half marathon. We were greeted and seated pretty quick. It didn't take much for us to figure out what we wanted. We were pretty hungry. We got our appetizer but no forks or napkins. We could use hands so no biggie. Food came hot and steaming. Had to ask for forks and napkins since we ordered pasta. Food was good but expected much more. Took a little to get the bill and a to go box. We were a group of nine who came for lunch during the weekday. The service was wonderful, the food delicious, and the atmosphere really great. Our server even humored us by being our photographer multiple times throughout the meal. Our table shared a serving of the calamari. It was perfectly done with a nice dry crisp on the exterior, and perfectly al dente in the middle. I ordered the lunch Sicilian pizza. My tablemates ordered the meatballs, I saw some sandwiches, and some salads. Everyone said the food was absolutely delicious. My pizza was perfectly done. Wait time - Terrible Ambiance - crowded, seating looks bad. Food - good! Server - not pleasant. Did not introduce herself. Did not confirm order. Not smiling, does not a welcoming tone. This is the second time I visited this location. First time was dinner time on a weekend so I can understand the wait time. It was 30 mins wait to be seated and so I thought might as well order "To Go" and eat at the hotel. We waited 40 mins for our food. Very slow experience. Second time, we were seated fast, no wait time on this weekend lunch time. Good so far, until we got seated. Server, does not give a pleasant customer service attitude. Ask for our drinks and then served it without asking if we are ready to order. She came back 10 after to ask for our order for 2 people. Just two people to order took more than 10 mins. After order in, it took 45 mins for food to arrive except for Calamari which arrived within 10 mins. We can only assume that our server likely forgot about our table or forgot to ring in our food at the very least, however the former seems most likely, considering how we were placed in the very corner (while multiple seats nearby better lighting and visibility were open) and how we were not given the same service we noticed tables right by us were getting (checking in regularly, asking if they needed refills/boxes/anything!) This was extremely negligent. Having to wait for 45 mins to for food service is terrible, knowing that the server was not pleasant at all makes the experience too dissatisfactory. I hadn't been to Paesanos since 2012, and decided on a whim to come back for dinner with some friends. We got there on a summer Friday at 6 PM and waited 25 minutes before being seated outside. We ordered the calamari, fettuccine arrostiti, vodka penne, and a pizza with sopresatta (?) and honey. We also got 2 mocktails. I will say, there's a lot of cream on the menu. I was surprised to see that' there was cream in the carbonara (a carbonara is traditionally egg, cheese, no cream). The calamari was alright, nothing to really rave about. It wasn't oily and appreciated the pieces of fried lemon. The fettuccine was just okay, it reminded me a Cajun pasta. I personally found the pasta a little too hard (I prefer soft, but I found it harder than al dente should be) and salty. The vodka penne was great, tastes just as I had expected it. I was surprised by the pizza, I found it to be really tasty. A little soggy in the middle and could maybe use a slightly longer bake? Or it sat too long, but the rest of the crust was nice a chewy. The mocktails were not very good. They were way too sweet and concentrated, which sounds like a weird thing to complain about, but we had to add water to it to make it feel less syrupy in our mouths. The service was fine, the servers were nice and attentive. The patio was very nice with the string lights and beautiful weather. I'd like to return and eat inside to get a better look at the interior and decoration. I also want to try the fried polenta and other signature items to get a better feel. read more

I think the food is a 4 but the atmosphere is a 3. It is a very airy space and not cozy which is how I would like my pasta joints that are charging over $15+ a plate. The Service and staff were great. Everyone, from greeter to busboy, etc is helpful in getting you waters, answering questions etc. I ordered not something I usually would~something someone I saw eating~ it was delicious and perfectly cooked al dente! I will definitely try again but not looking forward to the seating. The Bocce Balls were nnot what I was hoping~like Squishy garlic balls, no, tough and scratchy to the roof of my mouth. The farmers market salad had a good blend of flavors, but we did find it lacked acidity. The pork fusilli was tasty. It is on the sweeter side and has the flavor profile of an Asian dish. Ordered a gluten-free pizza to go, specified gluten-free a few times, it was the only thing that I ordered. The girl taking my order even repeated gluten-free back to me. I pick up the pizza, drive away, take a few bites and realize it was a little too good to be true... So I called to make sure that it was gluten-free and they told me that there was no gluten-free marking on the ticket. Don't offer allergy preferences if you can't guarantee them. I'd actually meant to write this review last week when I came here, but got it accidentally mixed up with the name of another restaurant I visited. That's been cleared it up, so here's my experience: We stumbled upon Paesano's while looking for a nearby Italian spot with my five coworkers, and it ended up being an excellent choice. The restaurant offers incredible value for the quality and quantity of food they serve. Prices were very reasonable, especially for the generous portions--something that's hard to come by. We ordered a variety of dishes, and everything we tried was top-notch. The pizzas were delicious and had an authentic taste on par with what I had in Italy. The tiramisu was fantastic, striking the perfect balance of creamy and rich, but it was the cocktails that were the real outstanding deal. Where we're from in the Bay Area, a meal like this would have easily cost twice as much, and that may be why locals have commented that it's relatively expensive. The ambiance was very laid back, and the tall ceilings made the place feel a lot less cramped than it may have been. The service was also great; our waitresses were attentive and kept everything running smoothly, making our experience even better. I'd highly recommend The Butterscotch Den for anyone craving quality Italian food at a fantastic price point. If I was a local, I'd probably go every week.
