I met a relative for lunch today and she suggested going to Maya in Davis. I don't know if this is the same family of Maya Restaurants that are located in Sacramento, but if so I have been to the one located near Richards Boulevard in Sacramento and really like it. This building in Davis sits on a corner and is hot pink, so you can't miss it. They have outdoor, covered seating that was very enjoyable with today's great weather. My favorite thing about lunch today (5/7/26) was the service. The food was good, but the service was excellent. Upon arrival, my first time here I peered into the interior of the restaurant to see if my relative had arrived. I was immediately greeted by a very nice young man behind the counter. I exited the building and sat down at one of their exterior tables so my cousin could easily spot me, and the same very nice young man came out and brought me a menu to review while I was waiting for my cousin to arrive. Once she arrived, we went inside and ordered our meals, and returned to their outside seating. They have an open chips and salsa bar which was great as we waited for our meals. A short while later, another nice young man (with braids) came out to clear the table and offer drink refills. They were both very kind, accommodating and engaging. It's very nice to have great customer service from these gentlemen. We had a lovely lunch, and I would return. read more

TLDR: My new favorite Mexican spot. Get the Fajita plate, Al Pastor plate, or Quesabirria Tacos. Don't let the menu size scare you off. The menu is enormous -- I won't pretend otherwise. But don't let that stop you. The food is excellent and it's worth taking the time to figure out your order. A few dishes I'd point you toward: the Fajita plate, the Al Pastor plate, and the Quesabirria Tacos are all worth ordering. On my first visit I had what I believe is called the Milpas Salad which was great, but I don't see it on the menu anymore. Great chips and salsa bar too. The horchata was just what we needed, huaraches were not bad, and this pozole had the meatiest hunks of succulent pork I've ever had at a restaurant. The esquite was plentiful and delicious, sweet, salty, tangy, and creamy. So great to finally see a restaurant take the corner of the former El Toro Bravo. We met here for my sons birthday because he was in a hurry and didn't have much time between practice and heading to a concert. We ordered immediately and or food was brought out promptly. I am not sure when their happy hour begins and ends but we wanted the birria tacos and they had them on a happy hour special 3 for $13 so we ordered two sets, the cone with dipping sauce and pickled onions on the side. We also ordered 2 wet burritos, one with carne asada and one with pollo and a side of black beans and rice for the table. Apparently, they have options of either Pinto beans, black beans or refried beans which is nice. She brought out churros on the house due to my son celebrating his birthday which I thought was very nice. On an unsually mild July Saturday evening with temperature in high 70s, we ventured a little further into downtown to finally check out Maya's since our go-to Mexican place in Davis was crowded with no seating in sight. Maya's fresh-painted pink exterior is visually attractive and will spike the curiosity of any passerby. The interior is modern cantina style, with several tables scatter throughout the room, but most of the seating is outside on the patio. The ordering is at the counter and food brought to the table, with alchol options available. Maya's menu is extensive and though the focus is on seafood items, there is something for everyone. Chips and salsa bar are added bonus. I ordered the wet burrito with red sauce and carne asada. The sauce was thick, almost like an enchilada sauces with a dash of smoky mole. The meat was of good quality and grilled right and the presentation with garnish represantable. I would definetly order it again. The rest of the party went with tacos, the omni-present quesabirria and carnitas being the meat choices. Came here on a Tuesday for dinner and sat outside. The food was good! We got the chicken mole plate and a regular burrito with carne asada. The chicken mole was tasty and a good amount of food. The regular burrito was also good, I only wish some of the ingredients had been better distributed. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the decor of this place. The interior set up feels a little cramped but maybe we can call it "cozy". I love that they have sidewalk seating options and we sat at the bar at the windows. We ordered some tacos and chicharrones. The meat was good and tasty. And the chicharrones were VERY GOOD. I was left with some questions though... why lemons and not limes? Why no jalapenos on the side for my taco? Why sooooooo much guacamole for the amount of chicharrones? I felt like for what we ordered it was a bit pricey for the size of the tacos and the price could be managed better for the chicharrones if there wasn't so much avocado used. Salsa bar - can we label these - I try my best to not take more than I need but when I don't know how spicy something is or what some is it's likely to be wasted. I must say - the chips were GREAT!!! I would still come back and try more on the menu. I hope they will have some good specials or deals here especially since this is so close to the university- students are on a budget. Maya is a very solid choice for Mexican food in Davis. The menu offers a huge range of your favorite Mexican foods - and that includes soups too! The restaurant is relatively small with it looking bigger on the outside than it is on the inside. It was a little confining to sit inside, but there are a couple tables for larger groups who visit the restaurant. Thankfully there is plenty of outdoor seating, including a fun little outdoor spot that faces the sidewalk so you can people watch to your heart's content. In terms of food, I found Maya to be mostly hits with a few things that didn't resonate. On the good side, I found that the flavors are right up in front. All the dishes were very flavorful and of top quality. The chili relleno I had there was aamzing. Paired with rice and beans it was a joy to eat. Another awesomething thing at Maya is that they offer up complimentary chips and salsa. The chips are hearty and there are many flavors of salsa to select from. My only gripe regarding some of the food is that a few of the items were a bit too much on the smokey side for me. The elote that I had was very strong in that department. I also would have liked the flautas to be lighter than the way they make them. The outside of the flautas were similar to that of the house chips they had. In terms of service I found Maya to be great. When you walk in you will probably get overwhelmed with how big the menu is. I love that they have many menu items to choose from. The cashier was very friendly. I ordered chicken enchiladas and I loved it. Thought the presentation was beautiful. I really loved the beans. I can't remember if I liked the rice or not so if I don't remember then it was probably okay BUT I really loved their beans. I did not eat the side salad or whatever it was. We decided to check out the place for lunch and were quite happy with our the meal. Street tacos with cabeza were great. Fried potato tacos also delicious. Kids' burrito delicious as well. Sopes were okay. Service was courteous (even if the sopes took a while to arrive). Bathroom decor as well as the decor throughout and outside of the building are fun. We got the asada fries. They were good but we had ordered extra avocado and there was zero avocado at all. That's a bummer. The churros are super super good. The horchata was good too, but very small cup of it for the price. It was almost a 40 minute wait for a takeout pickup with 3 items (fries, churro, horchata) and it was $30 bucks. Spent about 15 minutes getting a to go order through and confirmed twice with the person on the phone what the order was (the person was a native English speaker so not sure why it took so long to understand my order). When I got home, found out an order was completely wrong. I called back to complain. Not only did they still charge me for the incorrect order, they said if I mention it next time I'm there maybe they'd give me a discount or something. No apology, nothing. I placed the order and took a few pictures and boom food is here, fresh and hot~ I got a Passion fruit margarita and taco plate. The passion fruit margarita is so good! It's deliciously tart and sweet but not too sweet! It's veryyyy strong, they did not skimp on the good stuff, strong but still taste very good. For my two taco combo plate, I got grilled chicken. The chicken is tender and soft and well seasoned. The tortilla is soft and everything just works so well together. I didn't have room for dessert this time but will come back to try that! Good Mexican food in the middle of downtown Davis. We stopped in to try Maya's and I'm so glad we did! To be honest, we were drawn in by the bright pink exterior and vibrant decor. There's seating inside, but we opted for the outdoor seating. This is a walk up counter, but they bring out your food and bus your tables. Staff was very nice. We had the carne asada fries and the birria egg rolls. They were out of nacho cheese so I can't give the full review of the fries, but they were pretty good. Came here at around 9am (for Picnic Day. Hours are normally different) to grab some food before getting the day started. My boyfriend and I ordered the breakfast burrito and chicken street tacos and let me say..we DEVOURED everything. Soooo good. Yes. It's about time I tried this place and it was worth the wait! I had a passionfruit margarita and some tacos. First, I wasn't sure what to expect with the margarita, but they nailed it. It was really, really good. And as a former bartender, I'm a hard sell. I have also had an awful lot of Mexican food in my life. I got 3 street tacos for $9 which was a perfect amount for me and they have a chip station so I was satisfied. Maya's in Davis has only been open a couple of days but they've already got the kitchen and service in sync and they're pumping out some great food. Davis residents are lucky to have an established Authentic Mexican restaurant open their doors in their downtown neighborhood. The original Maya's is still open on Broadway while the Bercut drive (off Richards blvd) location is doing better than ever. The menu here is huge and everything sounded good but I went with the pork belly bites and al pastor nachos. My friend ordered the ceviche and a quesadilla combo for his son. The pork belly bites were the highlight of my visit. The salsa brought a kick to the juicy and crispy pork. I was impressed with the depths of flavors of the dish. I will be ordering again on my next visit. The nachos were served on a huge plate with which the food filled it up. Every bite better than the last. The ceviche was fresh and I wished they would've added more than one tostada since we shared it. This is a perfect summer dish with the avocado and lime. The place isn't huge but the outdoor seating makes up for the size of the inside. It was nice sitting outside as people passed and I even heard a few people wondering out loud if Davis finally got a good Mexican food spot? The answer is undoubtedly yes. read more

Maya's is one of my favorite new restaurants in Davis! I'm only writing this review (which I never do) because I'm really hoping that it can stick around for a while. I've been here 3 times and each time the food is delicious, the drinks are divine, and the service is great! You don't have to wait too long for your food and it comes out piping hot! Additionally, they have a solid menu with a lot of choices! The patio is great for the days where we have some nice weather and they have a solid indoor seating section for when the weather takes a turn.
