If you're looking for Mexican food and cocktails, this is the spot. High energy vibes, vibrant interior, outdoor seating, and pleasant service. The horchata was just what we needed, huaraches were not bad, and this pozole had the meatiest hunks of succulent pork I've ever had at a restaurant. The esquite was plentiful and delicious, sweet, salty, tangy, and creamy. So great to finally see a restaurant take the corner of the former El Toro Bravo. The menu is expansive, we will be back to try their other options.

We met here for my sons birthday because he was in a hurry and didn't have much time between practice and heading to a concert. We ordered immediately and or food was brought out promptly. I am not sure when their happy hour begins and ends but we wanted the birria tacos and they had them on a happy hour special 3 for $13 so we ordered two sets, the cone with dipping sauce and pickled onions on the side. We also ordered 2 wet burritos, one with carne asada and one with pollo and a side of black beans and rice for the table. Apparently, they have options of either Pinto beans, black beans or refried beans which is nice. She brought out churros on the house due to my son celebrating his birthday which I thought was very nice. This is good place to go if you need a hearty meal and don't have time to wait at a formal restaurant.

On an unsually mild July Saturday evening with temperature in high 70s, we ventured a little further into downtown to finally check out Maya's since our go-to Mexican place in Davis was crowded with no seating in sight. Maya's fresh-painted pink exterior is visually attractive and will spike the curiosity of any passerby. The interior is modern cantina style, with several tables scatter throughout the room, but most of the seating is outside on the patio. The ordering is at the counter and food brought to the table, with alchol options available. Maya's menu is extensive and though the focus is on seafood items, there is something for everyone. Chips and salsa bar are added bonus. I ordered the wet burrito with red sauce and carne asada. The sauce was thick, almost like an enchilada sauces with a dash of smoky mole. The meat was of good quality and grilled right and the presentation with garnish represantable. I would definetly order it again. The rest of the party went with tacos, the omni-present quesabirria and carnitas being the meat choices. The consensus was that it was all pretty good, though it won't make us change from our go-to as the number 1 option for Mexican in Davis. However, if it's busy over there we know where to go next...

Salt. Do you like your food overly salted? Because this place SALTS their food. It was edible but definitely not for people who have high blood pressure. I left feeling very thirsty, and was thirty throughout the day. I think the food would've been great if they didn't over salt the dishes. I wouldn't go back.

The food was amazing! So glad I tried it. Have no idea how long it's been there- maybe I noticed now that it's PINK! Walk up and order and too many great choices. I love flautas so tried that and a Michelada! So good! And the rest of my family got the 2 crispy tacos-1 Birria and one shredded chicken, salsa and chips were also awesome and must try the white salsa! So exciting something different and awesome. Everyone loved their meal- can't wait to go again! We had a very pleasant outdoor table- not too hot or anything. Decor, vibe and staff were all festive and thoughtful. Great service! Food coming out timing was good too!

The food is really good and it is actually authentic Mexican food. We got the street tacos, carnitas plate, and quesabirria tacos. We did wait about 10-20 minutes for the food but it wasn't bad. They offer free water and a sauce bar you can freely grab sauces and chips. It wasn't packed and they were blasting classic and modern Spanish songs.

    Chicken Mole and Regular Burrito
    Pascale S.

Came here on a Tuesday for dinner and sat outside. The food was good! We got the chicken mole plate and a regular burrito with carne asada. The chicken mole was tasty and a good amount of food. The regular burrito was also good, I only wish some of the ingredients had been better distributed. It came cut in half and I thought they forgot the beans because there were no beans in the first half I ate. But overall the flavor was really good! They also have chips and salsas which were tasty too. I would return or recommend to a friend.

I've been wanting to try this plate for a while now so here I am. I came in and I ordered the Carne Asada Plate and it was delicious. The food came out pretty fast and I really like their sauce station. The food also came out pretty fast. The restaurant is also nicely decorated. I'm glad that I have a good go to Mexican spot in Davis now. Try it out if you like. :)

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the decor of this place. The interior set up feels a little cramped but maybe we can call it "cozy". I love that they have sidewalk seating options and we sat at the bar at the windows. We ordered some tacos and chicharrones. The meat was good and tasty. And the chicharrones were VERY GOOD. I was left with some questions though... why lemons and not limes? Why no jalapenos on the side for my taco? Why sooooooo much guacamole for the amount of chicharrones? I felt like for what we ordered it was a bit pricey for the size of the tacos and the price could be managed better for the chicharrones if there wasn't so much avocado used. Salsa bar - can we label these - I try my best to not take more than I need but when I don't know how spicy something is or what some is it's likely to be wasted. I must say - the chips were GREAT!!! I would still come back and try more on the menu. I hope they will have some good specials or deals here especially since this is so close to the university- students are on a budget. (But really aren't we all?) I'm game for a round 2 Maya's. Even to just enjoy the chips and salsa bar and the art work. I also want to find a reason to bring friends for a bucket of beers. Until we meet again.

Maya is a very solid choice for Mexican food in Davis. The menu offers a huge range of your favorite Mexican foods - and that includes soups too! The restaurant is relatively small with it looking bigger on the outside than it is on the inside. It was a little confining to sit inside, but there are a couple tables for larger groups who visit the restaurant. Thankfully there is plenty of outdoor seating, including a fun little outdoor spot that faces the sidewalk so you can people watch to your heart's content. In terms of food, I found Maya to be mostly hits with a few things that didn't resonate. On the good side, I found that the flavors are right up in front. All the dishes were very flavorful and of top quality. The chili relleno I had there was aamzing. Paired with rice and beans it was a joy to eat. Another awesomething thing at Maya is that they offer up complimentary chips and salsa. The chips are hearty and there are many flavors of salsa to select from. My only gripe regarding some of the food is that a few of the items were a bit too much on the smokey side for me. The elote that I had was very strong in that department. I also would have liked the flautas to be lighter than the way they make them. The outside of the flautas were similar to that of the house chips they had. In terms of service I found Maya to be great. There were friendly staff all around and even though it is a counter-order restaurant, servers were around checking up on me and my needs, which was appreciated!

When you walk in you will probably get overwhelmed with how big the menu is. I love that they have many menu items to choose from. The cashier was very friendly. I ordered chicken enchiladas and I loved it. Thought the presentation was beautiful. I really loved the beans. I can't remember if I liked the rice or not so if I don't remember then it was probably okay BUT I really loved their beans. I did not eat the side salad or whatever it was. Washed it down with a pina jarrito. I need to come back another day to try out some other menu items. So far so good. I ate outside with my boyfriend. Will definitely come back.

The youngest member of the family was craving churros and we learned that Maya's had some (granted, they warned us ahead of time that those weren't made in house). We decided to check out the place for lunch and were quite happy with our the meal. Street tacos with cabeza were great. Fried potato tacos also delicious. Kids' burrito delicious as well. Sopes were okay. Service was courteous (even if the sopes took a while to arrive). Bathroom decor as well as the decor throughout and outside of the building are fun. All in all we were quite pleased with our outing and sent our complements to the chefs. We will be back.

Well know you do... Ferrari Fisheries has a stand that sells black cod, ling cod, red snapper which all are year round catches; and seasonal Dungeness crab and salmon. When they have a fresh caught batch; they text their customers what is available catch, and time & date. To get their text notifications; you can sign up on their website. I was fortunate enough to get to their stand early enough on a notification day to buy a couple of Dungeness crabs. The crabs were live, priced at $11/pound. Awesome price! When you get to the stand, there are two lines. The first line you want to get into is the one nearest the big containers where the fish on ice or crabs are kept. If you want your fish filleted, let them know. It is a complimentary service. Then you head into the other line to pay. They take cash and card, I'm not sure about other payment types. Keep in mind, the inventory sells quickly especially the seasonal items. Folks queue up earlier than the opening time stated in the texts. The start time was 10am; I got there at 10:20 am. They sold out as I was leaving the stand. Anthony (owner and fishing captain), his wife, and team are terrific. They all were helpful and had the best attitudes. Welcoming. I'm sure they answer the same questions over and over. But when talking with each customer, they were engaged and provided individual attention. Top notch customer service!

The place was pretty busy with tables mostly occupied. We were ordering to go and the wait was about 10 minutes or so. We both got the poke bowl and these are the steps. 1. Select a base - Sushi rice, Brown rice or Spring mix salad. 2. Select 2 flavors. There are about 12 options of Ahi, Salmon and Shrimp. It was my first time and I always like to go with their recommendations, which is Furikake Bomb Ahi and Salmon Bomb. Great names because they were bombs! 3. Select Loaded Options aka toppings! I like that you pick a style which includes a set of toppings, instead of selecting the toppings individually. I bet that saves a lot of time. We both got the Delilah's Style which has seaweed salad, cucumbers, surimi crab, wonton chips, edamame, mangoes, massago, furikake and unagi sauce. If you like it spicy, I would get the Tropical Style with spicy mayo. Ahi and Salmon were fresh with mild (but tasty) seasoning that's not too much that you can still taste the fish. I absolutely love the wonton chips. This is not the typical wonton chips. Incredibly crunchy and thicker pieces. The toppings are vibrant, fresh and delicious! The portions are generous. I couldn't finish it in one sitting. Next time I go back I want to try the sushi wrap and musubis. This is a hidden gem in Davis.

Great spicy food and friendly staff. Food (10/10) - The food here is AMAZING! Perfect balance of spice to flavor and every single bite is electric. The sichuan numbing pepper in the Chongqing soup was DELICIOUS. Mix it with some of the white rice and you have a dish all by iteself. The chicken itself had a nice chew and was very fragrant. Loved the texture and flaovr of the vermicelli; nice bounce to the noodles while soaking in all the spicy soup. My one complaint would be that they have soft bones (sign of long boiling time) so be careful of that! Also got the spicy stir-fried pork kidney... don't diss it 'til you try it. Super good, with that nice bit of chew. Take a bite of pepper, kidney, and white rice and BOOM! Perfect bite. **Recommendation: Rice is a key component for the dishes here. Without rice, everything will be too spicy, too savory, and overall too overwhelming. The rice is the thing that helps tie everything together (as it frequently is) Service (8/10) - Good service; nothing notable. Nice people and I think most of them speak Mandarin. Service and seating was also fast. Order of things to come out of the kitchen was a bit strange: soup for the chicken, rice, stir-fry, chicken. Honestly, not that big of a problem but just decided to comment. Price (8/10) - The price here is a bit on the pricier side; $54 for 2 but there were some leftovers (had to make my own rice though). Some of the dishes are more worth than others. The Chonqing chicken was $25 but you got a large bowl of chicken with soup and vermicelli. On the other hand, the stir-fry for $20 was notably padded with vegetables and I would say a majority of the dish was not the kidney. At the very least, the taste of the food compensates. However, this place is likely not a college go-to. Overall, great restaurant that I will be coming back to again (maybe with my parents LOL) or at the very least, would come with a large group as it is more fitting for family style. Highly recommend!

The Stir-Fried Pork Intestine was easily the highlight for me. It had that classic Sichuan numbing spice and a ton of flavor without being overly oily. The intestine was super crispy, which gave it a really satisfying texture. I'd 100% order this again. I was also really impressed by the Stir-Fried Pork Belly with Cauliflower, especially the cauliflower. It soaked up all the flavor while still keeping its texture instead of getting soft or soggy. The Lamb Spine was delicious too. The radish soaked up all the broth and basically turned into little flavor bombs. The only downside is that the lamb spine can be a little difficult to eat. If you want something easy and straightforward, I'd probably skip it--but if you don't mind working for your food, it's definitely fun and worth trying. Overall, everything was flavorful and well-portioned. We had four people and still ended up with plenty of leftovers. Some dishes, especially the Chow Mein, were a little oily, but nothing too unexpected for this style of food. Our total came out to around $125 for four people, which felt pretty reasonable considering how much food we ordered and how much we had left over. Service was okay. The staff were knowledgeable and able to answer our questions, but they weren't particularly attentive. We were the first table there and practically the only people dining in at the time, although they may have been handling online orders. On the plus side, we were seated immediately and our food came out really quickly. The restaurant itself has a casual, family-friendly atmosphere that works really well for groups. I could see myself coming here for dinner with friends just as easily as with family. It was also very clean, had calming music, some cool artwork on the walls, and surprisingly clean restrooms. We came around 5:30 PM and didn't need a reservation. Parking is the usual Downtown Davis situation, but if you're already parked somewhere downtown, it should be within about a 10-minute walk. Overall, this is a pretty cool spot in Davis. The portions are generous, the food is flavorful, and that crispy pork intestine alone would bring me back. I'd definitely come here again with friends.

I usually end up spending around 24 dollars when I add extra rice and garlic naan to the butter chicken, but honestly, it is so worth it. The portions are really generous. It is easily the size of two meals in one, so you can definitely save some for the next day. I have not tried any other Indian food spots in Davis, and to be honest, I do not really feel the need to because this place is just that good. Whether I get it to go or sit down with friends and family, the experience is always great. They are very quick with their service, and even when I order ahead, the food is still hot and ready to go when I pick it up. Overall, this is a spot I will keep going back to. Great food, great portions, and always consistent.

Gonna bump this back up to a four. Food has been consistently good again. Maybe there were just…read moregrowing pains. The chicken makhani is great again. It's no longer oddly sweet. The chicken Tikka is tasty and a great entry into Indian food if you have never been. Chicken momos were a little spicy, so if you don't like spice at all maybe skip them. Yeti hasn't undergone any deep cleans or refurbishing, it could probably use one. The booth chairs are cracking and my wife found them uncomfortable to sit on. The service is typically friendly, and we've never had issues. The only thing that still irks me is charging for a rice refill while eating in restaurant. I'll take it to the grave that rice refills in restaurant should be free.
