Being native Italian, I have a little background on Pizza, Pasta and other authentic deli's... Now, the friend Polenta was very good, while the accompanying sauces were a bit out of context (the marinara, too sweet and a bit spicy too, a more "mild" and garlic-less taste, would have been great... yes.. Italians hate garlic!). The Calzone with meatballs was a surprise, crusty, not like an Italian Calzone, while it was very good! The pizza as well, they followed the indication we provided and while the pizza dough was a bit too close to the NY pizza style than a Neapolitan or Roman pizza, it was good as well. Place was ok, a mix between casual and classy, and the prices are the norm. This is a three star review because the food was genuinely tasty, and our waiter was genuinely apologetic for not being able to modify one of the dishes. That said the rest of the staff seemed to lack grace. Dishes sat on our table after they were finished. Even when they were stacked. Simple drinks, like wine took forever to get to our table, and when we needed silverware the number of forks we requested were counted and that's how many we received without any knives or napkins. Water seemed to be an effort. They were busy and we were there towards the end of the night. Like I said the food was tasty. Your mileage may vary. read more

Paesanos is my go to Italian eatery for sure. Most times I have visited, I am able to be seated relatively quick, and if not, I have walked around downtown for about 30 min and received a text message update that my table was ready. Not bad. Service can be a bit slow at times, as it can get pretty packed. The longest I recall waiting was almost an hour for my table's food after ordering. The waiter who was serving us was very apologetic about the food taking a while and even got the manager to speak with us. We were then given two coupons for $5 off our next visit, which I thought was very kind. The food is pretty good, in my opinion. As an appetizer, it is definitely worth it to try the Bocce Balls. It is Buttery, garlicy, cripsy, chewy goodness. The drinks are great as well, I usually get the lemon drop. As for environment, the restaurant is pretty spacious, with plenty seating inside and outside. read more

It's been a while since we went to Paesanos. Ordered some takeout and it was ready when they said it would be! The bocce balls were fantastic here - we ordered two portions and did not regret a moment. So good - great bite and still tasty the next day heated up in the microwave. Fried ravioli wasn't my thing. Nothing wrong with it but not my jam. I got the tortellini which was good. My husband wasn't crazy about the baked pasta - felt kind of basic like what you would get at Macaroni Grill. Also ordered spaghetti and meatballs and carbonara for the kids - carbonara was woofed down in quick time. Spaghetti was said to be too saucy. We had fantastic servers who ensured we enjoyed our time and food, along with the amazing atmosphere. I couldn't ask for anything better. Haven't eaten here in quite a while (a few years). Returning was a surprisingly pleasant. They now have a nice lunch menu. We ordered the pesto ravioli lunch that comes with a salad plus the signature Pork Fusili with habanero pesto and sour cream, which has always been a favorite. Both were excellent choices. The food was okay. We ordered Farmers salad and combo pizza. Both could have been tastier considering the price, but they just okay. We at outside, so the flower petals from the tree nearby were falling down, which was kinda pretty, but also a nuisance. Food took seemingly forever to arrive. My husband always wants to come to Paesanos & we rarely do. Last night we had the best experience, and now I know we will be going much more often! Tory was our waitress and she was wonderful! 5-stars for the gluten free menu. Gluten free bruschetta, Gluten Free pizza, and gluten free Philly cheesesteak were all delicious. The gluten free baguette that they use was phenomenal. I wish I had enough room to try the gluten free pasta too! The service was pretty bad. Slow to greet, extremely slow to bring opening cocktails, no drink refills on sodas, had to chase someone down to order wine with dinner, and then they rushed us in a pretty aggressive way to pay the check (despite having three pieces of pizza left to eat on the table and one in my hand mid-bite). We just ate there today for lunch(Sun, 8/31/25) my husband and I left very disappointed, we started with an appetizer, fried calamari, that was wonderful. It took about 40 minutes for the four of us to get our food, that was a bit too long to wait, but we didn't complain. Two of us ordered the chicken parm and I'm not sure where to start to complain, the chicken was rubbery and tough. The noodles were dry and rubbery, it needed a lot more sauce and flavor. No one complained, we just didn't eat most of our food. For my first time, it sure left a bad taste in our mouth. Sadly the waitress never came by to ask how we were doing or fill our drinks. I love how the to go containers have a side option available for the garlic bread. Everything is in its own little compartment. No spills. The pesto tortellini is so delicious. I also love the spaghetti and meatballs. Both of my kids love that dish the most. It's nice to be able to pick up online orders after the after school activities/sport. The food was delicious across the board, every single item had amazing flavor, from appetizers to entrees. The service was also standout: friendly, attentive, and made the evening feel special. Continuing our exploration of kid friendly eating places in Davis. Paesanos is casual Italian local restaurant with several locations in the SacTown area. We caught the Happy Hour, because you know... grandkids. Nice kid friendly dining area with available high chairs and boosters, as well as bar seating. Kids got crayons and paper to color as soon as we were seated. Fried ravioli and bocce balls on the happy hour price list. Got an order of both. Each tasty, but the fried ravioli nosed out the bocce balls. Bocce balls are deep fried pizza dough balls drizzled with melted butter and garlic. Nice assortment of crafty tap and bottled beer. Also a nice assortment of mixed drinks. Appetizers and drinks were promptly delivered to the table. Wait staff was hopping, but friendly and helpful. Kids got the pasta special, came with garlic bread and an ice cream bar for dessert. I got the scampi entree. The BH got the Meatball Stromboli. The gk's parents shared Arrostiti and soppresatta. All the entrees were serviceable. The one downcheck on our visit is the wait between the appetizers and the entrees. Don't know if this was by design, lack of kitchen staff or something else. These grand parents know that dining with little kids is like dealing with a ticking bomb. So, conditional thumbs up for Paesanos, worth another visit. read more

The two of went during happy hour when the drink prices are reasonable. I think the happy hour appetizers are too limited because 3 of the 4 are fried. We ordered the ravioli bites and they were tasty, but too hard. For a main, we split the special which was excellent. It was linguine with spinach and shrimp. Half of the meal was great and half was disappointing- we ordered a large Caesar salad and it was delicious! My mom ordered Sangria, she liked it as well. I ordered the Lemon Pistachio Linguine to share with my mom, and we asked to substitute the prawns for grilled chicken- when it arrived, the "grilled" chicken was tiny little bits of chicken that looked like tuna, and had no grill flavor at all, super disappointing- and also, there were almost no pistachios and there was absolutely no lemon- we had to ask for lemon wedges on the side to get the flavor we desired- even though it's advertised as having lemon zest as well. I would not recommend this pasta. My dad got the Pomodoro capellini - the sauce was really nice and was the star pasta dish. I would come back for the Caesar and pomodoro, but wouldn't order it with grilled chicken since we got meat that looked like flaked tuna. Just saw a Caesar pass with large slices of grilled chicken, but not sure why we paid extra for that and got otherwise. read more
