Our chicken burger cut into thirds
    Kara P.

Wide array of options here for tacos, nacho, mac and cheese, and burgers. My friends and I ordered the potato tacos, designated hitter mac and cheese, chicken burger, and tailgate nachos. Tacos were a hit, they give you three but they're pretty large so you will be full. The mac and cheese was in a huge bowl and is pretty good with a little kick to it. My friend said the chicken in the burger was really soft and juicy. The nachos were really salty but had a good amount of everything on it. The service here is really nice too and they adjusted to our accommodations. We asked for the bacon on the Mac and cheese on the side and the burger cut into thirds. Now, cutting into thirds is no easy feat so when the burger came out and it was CLEANLY cut into three equal portions I was amazed. Kudos to The Gunrock staff.

Gunrock is a solid place to eat with a casual and fun ambiance. There are games available making it a fun place to hangout. The workers were kind as well. Personally, the meat in the Quesabirria Tacos was too dry for my taste, but other than that, the flavor was really good!

The Gunrock is a little bit on the pricey end, but so are most of the good food truck/Silo food options on campus. If you're craving some game day style food, this is the place. The beers on tap are solid and everyone working there is really friendly. The sandwiches and tri tip garlic fries are great as well. Most of their entrees can be two servings if you're not crazy hungry at lunch. Will definitely be eating here more.

This place was under construction/closed for the longest time!! My friend and I came here a little post-finals lunch. We'd both wanted to check it out for a while since it seemed like a UCD staple. Around noon, it was basically empty. The looming ceiling space along with the cheap carpet was reminiscent of a classroom LOL-- or even (worse), a grade school cafeteria. There were 4-5 servers hanging out at the bar. They were clearly over-staffed but didn't have the common sense to keep the chitchat in the kitchen. Having crowds of workers out just chillin looks unprofessional and sloppy, but maybe students don't care enough to uphold the reputation of a restaurant. For the rest of our meal, they were ridiculously inattentive, slow, and hard to flag down. There are sooooo many of y'all yet only one girl was really paying attention to us, and she wasn't even the designated server for our table... There were complementary chips before our meal which were average. I liked the seasoning, but the chips were unevenly cooked. Some were burnt and others were basically still slices of boiled potato. STRAWBERRY AND SPINACH SALAD: Really filling! I actually enjoyed this. The combination of the tart vinaigrette and strawberries was refreshing & satisfying. The creamy chunks of goat cheese balance out the intense acidity of the salad. It felt ~very healthy~ My friend didn't care for her chicken sandwich. Apparently too much breading and too tough to chew. The fries here are good tho. By the time we were finished, the place started getting pretty busy. But even when customers filled every table, the same herd of servers somehow had time to remain stationary, only talking to the bartender. They seemed to believe that their only duty was to take orders-- no filling water, no bussing plates, no checking up on diners at all. Priorities, I guess ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I believe that the ingredients at the Gunrock are locally grown by student farms, which I'm more than happy to support anytime. I just wish their service wasn't so bad.

If you're trying to class it up a bit when eating on the UCD campus, The Gunrock has a sit down restaurant with burgers, pasta, fish, etc I tried the $10 for 3 sides and it was delicious. - mashed potatoes are great - sweet potato fries are amazing - greens were a little lacking but they have other good things Their Salmon was a little small but for the price. It's understandable. I paid with Aggiecash so it dropped the $13 to about $11. That's $11 for salmon and mashed potatoes. If you've ever pealed potatoes, this sounds pretty good.

One of two spots my advisor and I would frequent for our weekly early afternoon lunches. Our timing meant we'd miss the official lunch service, but the restaurant allows orders from the happy hour and regular menu at the bar. You're given a number after ordering and food is brought table side when it's ready. I started ordering the fish and chips, subbing the vegetable of the day for chips, and it makes for a hearty, slightly healthy, and affordable meal ($9 on the happy hour menu as of spring quarter 2019). Salads are fresh, but very light fare and one of the pricier menu options. Friendly service, food served quickly given the off hours of our meals. A nice sit-down option on campus.

I'm saddened that I discovered this restaurant so late in the game! Since it's finals week, I wanted to grab a nice lunch somewhere close to campus. Low and behold, the doors opened for this place and I rushed in to grab a seat at the bar. I really enjoyed the presence of the student workers, as they were all kind and courteous before and after I got my meal. I'll admit the food is a little pricey, but for the service that I was given, it was well worth it. I hope to return again in the future! Here's my yummy burger for reference! I also received some complimentary in house potato chips before I received my meal (not pictured).

The new name and logo for the Silo Cafe and Pub

I remember first arriving in Davis, and I heard from someone that on campus there was a pub. I never found it until I was in my last year here. It was funny I never noticed it, because it was right next to the Silo where I would go in and get coffee, crepes, sandwiches and if I was desperate, pizza hut or Carl's Jr. This was a very different compared to next door, dark wood, an extensive bar selection, cloth napkins and even food options seemed a little higher end, and were served with plates (rather then wrapped in paper) and you traded in the plastic silverware, for the real metal ones. I'm not sure how recent this is, but it appears to now be called Gunrock Pub, I have no idea when this change over appeared, and I'm also not sure if they may have since changed their beer on tap and even their menu, because when I was last here was was just called the Silo Cafe and Pub.... This spot became apart of a ritual that some of my classmates and I would do together before our landscape design studios (to get the creative juices flowing) during our studios (for a break and refresher) and after our studios. (to unwind) I'm not to sure how productive it was, but it was a convenient location and when you are on campus working through the night on designs and pretty much living there, you need a place to kick back and have a drink to two. They had a bunch of beers on tap, it may have changed (I doubt it and hope not) but I remember that some of regular choices was Blue Moon, Stella Artois and New Castles. I think our pitchers went for about 10 bucks which wasn't bad in my opinion. I never tried the food, it seemed as though the results were mixed. But considering this would be the only place on campus you could have a drink (without repercussions) that alone made it worthwhile. Since graduating I haven't made it back, probably a good thing, since it took me quite a while to work off that beer gut... :P

Bread with local olive oil and balsamic vinegar dip.

A gem at UCD! You see professors and other private parties, and not much undergraduate students at this fancy set-up. The prices are sort of up there, but completely worth the price you're paying for sustainable, locally and campus grown foods. Though Carl's Jr. and other fast food joints are just around the corner of the Silo, students should experience this wonderful establishment at least once during their time at UCD. Now, I'm not a UCD student, but my father was a part of the university. He still drops by to meet with professors and dined at the Gunrock Pub (or the Silo Pub as others call it) in the past. My father and I came to campus to get my new bike registered at the TAPS office and decided to have lunch at the GP. We came in, sat down, and were given a plate of rosemary bread with olive oil (locally pressed) and balsamic vinegar dip. The bread was soft as cotton and fresh out of the oven. The perfuming smell of rosemary was the best at every bite. As for the olive oil and balsamic vinegar dip, the olive oil was very mellow and had a very clean taste to it. The balsamic was great, as well. What a great appetizer. For our entrees, my father ordered the Aggie Lager Burger with the soup of the day on the side and I chose the Lemongrass Steak Sandwich with a side salad. It took a while to get our food, but at least you can ask for more rosemary bread while you wait, which may be a bad idea because you'd be too full by the time your food arrives, but it's so good and addicting! Finally, our food came out and it looked so scrumptious! My Lemongrass Steak Sandwich had a very generous amount of thinly sliced steak. The steak was so flavorful from the Thai/Asian inspired marinade and the cabbage-cilantro slaw was crisp and fresh. I like how the ingredients are organically raised, which is good for the our environment and health in the future. My father said that his burger was delicious and very wholesome. The soup of the day he chose was cream of mushroom and he enjoyed that as well. We both finished our meals, leaving our stomachs happy. The amount of food was just right and keeps you energized throughout the whole day. Treat your body right and invest more for the best quality from the local university. I'm surprised this place has 3.5 stars. I would recommend those who gave a rather low rating to give this place another chance.

I'm so glad I found this place on campus, great place to go when you're in the mood for a nicer lunch. Service was super friendly and attentive, the servers got a little frazzled at times and didn't seem to know which table ordered what. But as long as I get my food, I have no complaints. Really interesting and eclectic lunch menu, there's something for everyone. It's nice that the ingredients are all local. I usually come for the to-go salads. You can buy a card for $50 for 10 salads, and save some $$. Took a friend to lunch here and did the sit-down experience. Lemon grass steak sandwich was great. Beef is marinaded in lemon grass, chili sauce, ginger & soy. The beef was tender and really well flavored. It was a little saltier than what I expected, but the sweetness of the slaw balanced it out. The bread was also so good, toasting it made a huge difference. My friend ordered the french dip. Looked delish. Generous portions is a plus!

There was no greeting, just a sharp directive. Despite this, we went ahead and placed a to‑go order for a tri‑tip sandwich and a Greek salad and paid. I completely understand that businesses have closing times and need to clean and wrap up for the night. That's reasonable. What's not reasonable is speaking to long‑time customers, or any customer, in such an unkind, abrupt manner. A little courtesy goes a long way. Because of this experience, we won't be returning.
