I first got introduced to this spot due to a Yelp event hosted by Yelp Davis. I loved it instantly. I loved it so much that I've been back three times in the subsequent months. Every time I've gone here, I've spoken to the owner and he is such a nice guy and you can tell he is really passionate about his business. This location is located on a busy G Street in downtown Davis, so street parking and lot parking are the two ways of parking in the area. The inside area has both a downstairs and a separate upstairs that is usually reserved for large parties.The downstairs area has plenty of tables for customers and I've found it to always be clean. There is a massive multi-screen television in the middle of the dining area for customers to watch the latest sporting events and keeping up with current events on news channels. All that being said, the true star of this restaurant is for sure the food. On most of my visits I've ordered the same thing. I always order the #4 combo($11.95) which is a slider and a side of seasoned fries. The chicken is available in multiple heat levels, I generally go between mild and medium, though I did hot once and it was too hot for me--medium is my sweet spot.. The fries are seasoned so well, I really enjoy the taste. Each order comes with the Crazy D's sauce and it pairs so well with the chicken sliders-I really enjoy it. Got some food to go. Inside was nice and the service was good. The food was just not there for me. The first thing I noticed is the shape of the chicken. It's like a chicken rod, that tapers, and wasn't visually appealing. I got medium, which was bland and not spicy. The thinner end of the chicken rod was overcooked and dry, while the other end was ok. I would have hated to get a sandwich with this shape of chicken. It would lend itself more to a hotdog bun. My wife got the wings, and they were wet sauced not dry. I'm not taking points off for this, but she doesn't care for this type of wing. My kids got the plain chicken rod, and didn't even finish one each. Not because it was so much food, it was because they didn't care for it either. The skin on the chicken rod was kind of leathery. Fries were also pretty bland and not hot. I don't expect scorching hot fries for take out, but these were definitely not fresh from the fryer. The best part of the meal for me were the mozz slabs. Crunchy and tasted good, with a nice cheese pull. Overall it just wasn't for me. Bland chicken rods is where I draw the line. read more

I do love a good chciken sandwich so when I had the Oppurtunity to check this place out I just had to . Love the whole vibe of the area, with outdoor and indoor seating located on a nice shady street in downtown Davis. The food is cooked to order with options of heat levels from none to crazy. I got the Mild, although the nice slaw on the sandwich fools me into thinking I can go hotter next time The fries were fantastic, crispy and seasoned nicely. Not bad for what it is and doesn't take too long. Just not for me. Tenders had a thick shell-like crust. Spice was added through powder they shook on top, gave an almost Cajun seasoning taste. Normally hate coleslaw but this was good for coleslaw, came with a pickle and a soft yellow bun. The following are pretty standard things that just aren't to my preference: I didn't really like how my tender dripped some oil that didn't really taste fresh and the chicken was just barely fully cooked so the texture was still a little "loose." Ordered medium and couldn't taste any spice or seasoning whatsoever -- for a place that's all about hot chicken, that's kind of a big deal. The chicken itself was just bland all around, nothing that made me want to come back. The inside seating is nice though, genuinely a cute spot to eat. Come here you have to try the oversized chicken breast deep fried with your choice of Mild, spicy or fire spicy powder. The chicken breast is halal and it's never Frozen and they do deep fry and me to order for sure. . I also really like there crinkle cut fries it is always the best kind of fries that I can say when I go to a restaurant. . Also don't forget to try their pink sauce which is a really great sauce to dip in everything. They also have your classic Smashburger which is really good and I like it without the sauce. . The service here is friendly and Ambience is casual and has a really big space for you to sit and enjoy and catch up with your friends. The location of the spot is in the hot spot where Temple coffee and a really good boba shop is all right next door. . Order them Doordash. Not the biggest fan of their mac and cheese flavoring and also their "half-and-half" is a bit misleading. I was craving some fries so I got an order of their loaded fries with the spicy chicken. However, I also decided to try their mac-and-cheese so decided to pay the extra $1 for the half-and-half. Unfortunately, their "half-and-half "was about 75% mac... fry craving not satisfied :( Additionally, the mac was just really wet and pretty flavorless. There was obviously the cheese taste but it could have done with a little bit of salt. The fries were good though! They were nice and crispy and went well with the chicken. The chicken itself is seasoned pretty well but I would recommend picking one of the hotter spice levels (for this order in particular). The mac and cheese dilutes the flavor like crazy so you'll need something more flavorful to help elevate it. In the future, WOULD NOT order the mac and cheese. The food was very good and I think one the biggest reasons people have talked differently about this place is the difference in chicken as it is very long! However that is not a downside and the chicken is very flavorful. The fries are seasoned and have a nice crunch and compared to canes the chicken is much crunchier. Definitely would go here again especially with the student discount, this place has one of the best meal deals for chicken in Davis The service was also very good and the owner and staff were very nice and check on customers periodically. Everything was hot and fresh and yummy!!! I love the sauce. I recommend getting the sliders.

The tenders are massive, and luckily I was craving crinkle cut fries. The medium was not too spicy definitely getting hot next time. Should be your goto chicken spot in Davis, I would be coming here next time with my friend and dining in since the interior is visually appealing as well as massive with a lot of seats. I do not recommend going here. I called to place an order and was told they were too busy to take to go orders, I work right across the street so I just walked over to order in person instead. I got there no more than 2 minutes from the phone call and there were maybe 8 people already eating. They were not busy at all. The service got even worse, I went to the counter and the girl working there looked immediately annoyed that I was there. I proceeded to order two chicken strips and asked if it came with sauce. Her response was a vacant stare, and "I don't know. I think you need to pay extra." So after comparing the price of two single chicken strips and the price of a two strip combo I decided to go with the combo instead because the price difference was $1. The food came out fast, but again everyone working there did not seem thrilled to have business and the overall vibe of the establishment was not great. Chicken is mid at best, the breading is not crunchy, the flavor is hot with not much other flavor in terms of seasoning. My experience was one definitely for the books comparable to most chicken food places this spot was amazing. They actually season the chicken. Chicken full of seasonings that actually complement any dips that you may want to try. We were so excited to try a new chicken shop! The let down was legendary. Hats off to the poor chef who took our order AND cooked the food, you are not paid enough to be back there alone and we see you trying your best.
