The majority of my experiences here have been really good. The staff is usually attentive and kind, and my food is always hot and ready, which I really appreciate. I would definitely recommend the beef plate. They give generous portions, especially with the short ribs. You usually get two pieces along with a good amount of beef, which makes it worth it. I used to order the katsu, but it was not as crispy as I prefer. I did have one experience where my DoorDash order was incorrect, and I had a hard time reaching someone by phone. It would be really helpful if calls were answered more consistently, especially for situations like that. The short rib is undoubtedly there best meat (which is likely why it is the most expensive). It's flavorful and has a very nice, melt-on-your-mouth texture. It goes great with rice. The BBQ pork is really delicious! It's tender and has a slight sweet hint. My only complaint is that the BBQ beef is a little bit on the tougher side. It definitely has a nice smoky flavor though so it's a good quality meat. The chicken katsu is good BUT must be eaten fresh. If you let it sit for even a day, it will get soggy. Overall though, it's super crispy. Not a biggest fan of the katsu sauce since it has a very sharp sweet flavor (though to each their own). COLLEGE HACK!! I usually get a half-and-half plate with short ribs and BBQ beef, all mac with a side of BBQ pork and am able to HAPPILY, stretch it over 3 meals. I'll usually make rice on my own and it's something that you can keep on eating. Since you have a nice variety of meat, you don't get too tired of the flavor. A nice scoop of rice with some mac salad or meat is simply delicious :DD Price (9/10) - Some definitely make the argument is Tim's is a lot more expensive than L&L. However!! Since the portion size is so much bigger and you feel a lot more full after Tim's, it's 100% my go-to for Hawaiian BBQ. I've ordered the teriyaki chicken from Tim's Hawaiian multiple times. Yesterday, I ordered directly at the restaurant, but after waiting about 20 minutes without hearing anything from the kitchen, I checked in. The gentleman working there seemed surprised and realized my order hadn't been seen, so they started prepping it right away. He was kind and offered me a drink while I waited, which I appreciated, though I declined. Later that day, when I noticed the chicken was very salty, I called to let him know and he did refund me, which I appreciated and felt was handled well. Today, I ordered the teriyaki chicken again thinking they just had a bad batch and unfortunately it was still very salty. When I politely mentioned this to the woman working there, I did not ask for a refund. I asked if it would be possible to make another order of chicken with less or no seasoning. She declined and explained that since they hadn't received complaints from other customers who ordered the same dish, they could not remake it or offer a refund. While I understand that others may not have had the same experience, I was disappointed by how the feedback was handled. I appreciate the kindness and customer service shown yesterday and I do want to highlight the lady today was not rude and probably it wasn't her decision to decide whether to make another order or refund me, but consistency in food quality and how concerns are addressed would make a big difference. read more

Everything about this establishment was great! Would 10/10 recommend to anyone looking for authentic Hawaiian food, that's decently priced, and also really great service that was so communicative and helpful. The restaurant itself is small with not too much seating but there are also picnic tables outside and lots of street parking in the area and a parking lot right next door. The overall ambiance was calm, which I am sure is to change when Davis students are back in session and flocking here for food! The food itself was amazing. Cute little spot in downtown; short walk from Davis campus so I came out for a quick lunch. Ordered a loco moco and the portion was huge: 2 large patties with 2 over easy eggs, gravy, 2 scoops of rice, and 1 scoop of mac salad on the side. It was very filling and I had to take the other half to go because the portion was that generous. Definitely worth the price; it was around $17 including tax so considering I can get 2 servings out of it, that's nice. The food itself is pretty good. It's a small store with limited seating, so keep that in mind if you want to dine in. I ordered their katsu and BBQ chicken musubis. Their katsu was great and perfectly fried. The BBQ chicken was good, but I couldn't help not comparing it to Ono's Hawaiian BBQ, and with that, the marination just wasn't quite there. The musubi comes with a lot of rice and a piece of meat. I stopped in during a very long day of driving. I was hungry and this area in Davis has multiple good eats. I was craving HawaiianBBq chicken, and Yelp showed Tim's near where I parked. It was late, just after 9pm, and the place was packed. The line to order moved extremely fast. The crew was working hard, cooking and filling orders quickly. I was overwhelmed and confused after my long day. When I got to the counter, I told the young man I just wanted Hawaiian Chicken but was tired and confused. His name was Felix. He immediately slowed down and helped me through my order! Then told me to be seated and he would serve me. Unusual, as they generally call out numbers as orders are up. He was super kind and helpful. I almost left, because of my brain issues. But with Felix help, I got to order what I wanted, was able to sit down, and was taken care of the way I needed right then. Now I am almost ready to leave, and I am more than satisfied. The food was GREAT. And, as you can see in my picture, only 20 minutes after I arrived- the counter has no line. I love me some Hawaiian food and on a cold wintery day, it sounded like just the ticket. I got the loco moco, which was huge! And my son spotted it and scoffed down about half of it. He had never tried loco moco and was immediately a fan. Who wouldn't love a ground beef patty over rice, topped with gravy and a fried egg, with a side of macaroni salad? It was a carbalicious feast! It's a perfect walk to and from campus and you can also just grab the food and go. My boyfriend and I got two mixed plates but later realized I probably should have gotten a bowl. The mixed plates include two scoops of rice, macaroni salad, and your choice of protein. The bowl contains vegetables and rice and is a much smaller portion. I ended up getting the chicken and it was way too salty. I did not enjoy it that much, but they did give a lot! The bbq mix plate was a lot better and definitely had more flavor besides salt. She did not take my order instead sg forested me to a bank of kiosks to order my food. I asked her about parking and she was clueless. She had no idea ifthr parking on the other side of the wall of the building was for the restaurant or not. After trying to figure out the kidok ordering process on the greasy screen , i finally got a reciept that said my food would be ready in 10 minutes. I put in sub short rib which everywhere else in the wotld you would think that mean substitute in the short rib but at Tims Hawaii in Davis CA, it means take out thre short rib and the chef puts in whatever they FEEL like. And I wanted it spicy So ended up with 2 types of chicken and 1 beef. Way too much food that was salty and over cooked. The fried chicken cutlet was just ok but not rememberable. And their were out of volcano sauce which I suppose is why no flavor or spiice. Not worth it to my just to be told what their capabilities are snd aren't and a miatched order.
