Still a huge fan of this place - since the beginning, the quality of their poke and all of their ingredients have been excellent and it's the easiest thing in the world to order online and then pick up the to-go order, which is always ready when you want it. For me, the small size is perfect - but I recently ordered the large so I could have some leftovers and try even more of the options. My go-to's are the traditional and the salmon poke, always with rice, the cucumbers, crab salad, ginger, edamame and seaweed salad. Sometimes with some furikake. Every last sauce I have tried have been wonderful - my favorites are usually the spicy mayo or the peanut chili but it depends on my mood. Was hit with a nice reminder of inflation when I had lunch here earlier. $19 for a bowl of poke?!?! Goodness. That was for 3 scoops of protein. The larger bowl, with 5 scoops, was a couple bucks more. Ordering was pretty simple. Pick your size - 3 scoops or 5 scoops of protein, pick your base - rice, salad or half and half, pick your proteins, pick 1-2 sauces which you can also have on the side, pick up to 10 sides, and pick up to two toppings. The fish was fresh and tasty. All the sauces, sides and toppings complemented the protein well. Portions are generous so given the price it's worth it. This is more of a grab and go spot, so while there is a bit of indoor and outdoor seating, you'll find most folks just getting their food for takeout. Last, I haven't tried ordering online, but seems to be a good option to skip the wait. I just went in during lunch and ordered in line and the wait wasn't bad at all. read more

I never thought I would be able to find amazing authentic Hawaiian Poke in such a small town such as Davis. How wrong I was! I was absolutely amazed to find that not only was there authentic poke, but other local Hawaiian items to buy, such as Hawaiian Sun Mochi Pancake mix. This was one of those establishments my friend and I would always walk past on our trips downtown but never thought much to step in, until one day we were searching for eateries we both have not yet been to. This was one of the options. So glad we decided to go with this one because the food was delicious. I ordered the marinated pork plate and it came with macaroni salad and their version of slaw. Friend ordered a customized pokè bowl. Both were decently priced, had great proportions, and did I mention they both tasted delicious? My friend is a frequent goer of the other pokè place in town and he said this place is now his favorite. We also ordered lush ice not knowing it was alcoholic but that was a nice surprise. It also tasted better than a regular shaved ice. Only downside is that the food does not taste great after a few hours or the next day (marinated pork). Looking for a quick dinner with friends so we stopped by this poke place to grab food to bring home. Even though they were almost about to close and all the chairs were already put away, they still let us order and patiently waited for us to decide what exactly we wanted! It's $15 for a regular bowl with 3 scoops of rice and $17 for a large with 5 scoops of rice. You can also get crab salad and seaweed salad as toppings too (but avocado and masago costs extra to add). I got a large to try more kinds of fish: - garlic shrimp (favorite) - poke salmon (also favorite) - oyster salmon - spicy tuna - ahi tuna I liked the salmon and shrimp more than the tuna but it's also hard to get super fresh tuna, so if I were to go again I'll probably just stick with the top two. I also like how they have marinated options though instead of just regular fish that they add sauce to. Also appreciate how they let me get sauces to the side instead of automatically adding it in (I assumed the marinated fish would be flavorful enough). They're pretty generous with the amount of fish/toppings packed into one takeout container and didn't miss any of the toppings I wanted! read more

This place is so good! I've been eating here for a few years and you know how some places sorta taper off or give smaller servicing over time. Not the case here at all! All the staff are super friendly, the fish is so fresh, the sauces are all scrumptious and I love all the toppings to choose from. Zumapoke is the best poke not only in Davis, but in the larger Sacramento area. *Why* is it the best? Let me tell you! First, the fish is always fresh and tasty. For me, this is the MOST IMPORTANT factor in poke (or any other raw fish dish). I don't care how tasty your sides are, or how creative your sauces are. If your fish ain't fresh, then your poke sucks. Bad fish will shine through -- in a bad way -- any sauce or side your throw at it. Second, the sides and sauces are excellent and do a fantastic job of elevating the fresh fish. I like a traditional ponzu, but I recently tried the pineapple wasabi aioli, and it was excellent. As for sides, the kimchi, seaweed salad, and pickled radishes are personal faves, but since you can pick up to TEN sides, you really should just use a process of elimination and pick the two or three you can live without, then ask them to pile the sides high! Third, Zumapoke is a good deal. Yes, like everyone else their prices have gone up over the last few years. But Zumapoke is very generous with both the fish and the sides, so you won't feel shortchanged. I have a big appetite, and I always walk away satisfied. Fourth, their kids bowls are also a great deal, and the perfect size for the 12-and-under crowd. Too many places do a "kids menu" that is either overpriced or filled with generic garbage like hot dogs and chicken fingers. Zumapoke's kids bowls are the same poke that everyone else gets -- just smaller and half the price. Fifth, although seating is limited, the place is always clean, and the staff are always friendly and welcoming. I also like the proximity to the outdoor seating on G Street. I often grab a pint from next door and enjoy a beer with my meal. Yum! read more

Unfortunately I have to agree with other reviewers who commented that this place has gone down since they switched from earth-friendly compostable bowls to plastics. Kinda like a Trump move. Their web photos still show compostable, but don't be fooled. I was told they dropped them because plastic is cheaper, but that's because it's a waste product from the fossil fuels industry, which of course is also polluting the oceans with microplastics that are bad for the fish we love, and us, too. It's hard to believe the owner's profit margins depend on saving a few cents for a container, but here's an idea: at least let us choose -- paper or plastic, just like at the grocery store. If compostable really does cost a little more, I'd happily pay it. read more

Decided to try this place instead of Good Friends but really wished I went there instead. For some reason Davis poke is VERY expensive. It is about $14/$15 for a similar size poke bowl in SF. There is no updated menu (that I saw) on reviews but it is $17 here for 3 scoops of proteins, with (I believe) 11 toppings offered and $1 to duplicate. P A R K I N G plenty of 2 hr street parking -- 5/5 S E R V I C E cashier was nice -- 4/5 F O O D I was initially wowed by the 3 scoops offered but the portion size was pretty small I would maybe compare it to maybe 1.5-2 scoops. The toppings offered are just ok and I think the quality for some were a little lacking. I also was bummed that it's $1 to duplicate because I often like to swap and double toppings I enjoy. O V E R A L L Good Friends is probably about $1 more expensive after adding on toppings but the quality + portion is better :( read more

Alright, to start things off, this isn't a review of the restaurant, but a review of the small catering operation they have for special events. Today, the restaurant set up operation at Mahany Park in Roseville, CA, for their place in the every-Sunday Mahany Park Farmers Market. Hula Dogs is a small, pop-up restaurant, owned and operated by Zumapoke and Lush Ice, located in nearby Davis, CA. The restaurant offers catering, and sets up for special events that happen in the greater Sacramento area. Mahany Park Farmers Market is an event that happens every Sunday, from 09:00 in the morning until 2:00 in the afternoon, weather permitting. The event always includes several food vendors, who operate on a rotating basis, so each time you attend the event, you'll likely enjoy a different food vendor, which is a Roseville "foodie's" dream come true! I was greeted by Dustin, the "Coconut Guy" was in front of the restaurant, with knife in hand, whacking up coconuts. For $5.00, the "Coconut Guy" will whack your coconut so you can enjoy the water, and when you're finished, he'll cut out the meat for you to enjoy. For only $5.00, it's great one-stop-shopping, as you get a refreshing drink and coconut meat to enjoy. I didn't do a coconut, but I placed my order of an "Aloha Dog," with Spam, which he relayed to Chef Brian. The menu is posted on the side of the canopy, and offers seven choices of hot dots, some of which are quite exotic, and not something you'd find at your carnival or county fair. I went with the "Aloha Dog," which is at the top of the menu, and is the "Signature Dog" of this fine, pop-up restaurant. From the "top" of the menu, I went with the "Aloha Dog" with my choice of meat of Spam, as Spam is very popular in the State of Hawaii. When you order this amazing "Spamdog," you get to choose between a hotdog or Spam... what a difficult decision! In the end, I went with Spam as my meat of choice, in the spirit of Hawaii. The "Spamdog" began with two large pieces of delicious Spam, browned and grilled to perfection on the griddle. The bun was a fresh, regular size bun that was lightly toasted on the griddle. When the meat and bun were ready, Brian took them off the griddle and placed them in a to-go box and added pineapple chutney, teriyaki sauce, fresh jalapeno pepper slices, spicy aioli, and last but not least, a fried egg. Today marked another "first" in my life, as I've never enjoyed a fried egg on a hot dog... or should I say "Spamdog?" ... until today! Like all dogs on the menu, my "Aloha Dog" came with a small side of barbecue potato chips, which added a bit of "crunch" to the meal. The chips were nothing special, but they mated perfectly with the dog, and made for a complete lunch. The "Aloha Dog" is not your garden variety of hot dog, as it was simply delicious, and is unlike any hot dog that I've ever enjoyed. All ingredients combined together to create an exotic, tropical and amazing taste sensation! In the spirit of Hawaii, I felt compelled to order Spam as my meat of choice, but I can only imagine the wonder of this dog with a quarter pound, perfectly grilled dog that "snaps" when you bite into it. The "Aloha Dog," with either variety of meat is a hot dog lover's dream come true! The dogs served at Hula Dogs are simply delicious, and the staff is amazingly friendly. For the schedule and locations of where this small pop-up restaurant will appear, contact Zumapoke and Lush Ice. The hot dogs served at Hula Dogs are "foodie quality!" At $12.00 a dog, it's quite a bit on the pricey side, but the dog is a one-of-a-kind, at least in the greater Sacramento area, and a delicious, exotic dog. We both enjoyed our bowls. The small build-your-own poke bowl was an ample portion, filled with three kinds of mains and plenty of toppings, all served over rice, salad, or a mix (I went both!). The price seemed quite reasonable for the fresh quality and sizable portion. Service was kind but the employee seemed overwhelmed. I love that place has a ton of selections for fish and sauces and the staff are very friendly every time I visited. They have both indoor and outdoor seating areas, I love to enjoy my delicious bowl and enjoy the street view when the weather is good outdoors.
