Great staff, great service, & amazing food!! I have came to this chain & each time the food is delicious, fresh, and made to perfection! The ambiance here was busy and mid-loud range of noise level. Perfect for medium to large parties. We came in a group of 10! We were sat down quickly and our water and order was brought out in a timely manner Overall great sushi spot to bring your friends & family!

Michi roll + Bob's roll

Went to Mikuni on a visit to a friend for her dance showcase, and honestly, this meal ended up being pretty disappointing We wanted something a little nicer, and since my friends hadn't tried Mikuni before, we decided to give it a shot. We spent around $35 per person, and for that price, the food felt below average. We started with the chicken karaage, which was probably the first red flag. It was $16, and the portion was shockingly small. There were basically only enough pieces for about two bites per person at a table of five. The edamame was fine, but that's not too hard to get right. The Spicy Tuna roll was the most forgettable. It genuinely was nothing special, and I've had better sushi rolls from grocery stores for less. The Fair Oaks Roll was okay. I guess you can't go wrong with avocados and tempura. The flavors felt muted, and like a lot of the rolls here, it leaned too heavily on sauce. The Michi and Bob's roll was the biggest letdown for me. The tempura shrimp was almost all batter, and I'll admit this is a hot take, but I really do not think cream cheese belongs in sushi. Between the batter and the cream cheese, it felt more like a like an americanize appetizer than a sushi roll. We also got tuna, yellowtail, albacore, and shrimp nigiri. The yellowtail and albacore were actually the best part of the meal for me. Both tasted smooth and relatively fresh. The shrimp nigiri was overcooked and rubbery. The worst piece was the tuna. It tasted noticeably fishy and not very fresh. To Mikuni's credit, the presentation was nice. The rolls looked appealing when they came out. But good presentation can only carry so much when the actual quality doesn't match the price. The service was also just okay. Since we were seated on the patio, it felt like we were forgotten a few times. Felt like the little details were disappointing. The ginger and wasabi looked sloppy on the plate. The ginger was so wet that the liquid ran into the wasabi, and you could see the green coloring in the liquid. It made the whole setup feel a little careless. Overall, I left feeling like Mikuni charges in the mid-range for sushi that's ultimately pretty below average. I've had much better sushi in the Bay Area for the same price or less. If you want sushi in Davis, I'd personally recommend Zen Toro.

Stepped into Mikuni today FINALLY during lunch given how close it is to work! It was an extremely beautiful day out today, made my way over for lunch! Was greeted immediately and I chose to sit in the outdoor patio with the wonderful weather! I was greeted by my server whose name is Emily and I will tell you now, she was so sweet and kind while serving me! Lucky if you get her! I got the spicy salmon handroll, I wasn't a fan because I love tuna more and I should just know to stick with tuna. Bbq Albacore just melts in your mouth, and the sushi was good! Was fresh and tasted how it should! I will say lunch was a little pricey from what I normally pay but hey that's expected when dining out for sushi, quality is always gonna cost a little more! I will definitely be back to try more of their rolls!!

Went back for a second try and had a wonderful time. We waited around 15 minutes to be seated. Waiter was friendly and gave us plenty of time to decide. We ended up choosing the $70 for two and it was definitely worth it! We were stuffed by the end and the sushi was delicious!

They have new lunch options!! This salmon sake iburi rice bowl is $17! Highly recommend. So many other good priced options.

Vegetable Tempura - A plate of vegetable tempura, including green beans and carrots, accompanied by a dark dipping sauce in a small bowl.

We visited Mikuni on a Sunday night. It was pretty busy, but luckily we were seated right away. The service was great. Our server was very friendly and attentive, which definitely added to the experience. We started with the vegetable tempura, which was light, crispy, and enjoyable. The Fair Oaks Roll with panko shrimp with avocado, topped with masago and green onions was fresh, flavorful, and definitely a highlight. Unfortunately, the spicy tuna didn't quite meet expectations. It didn't taste particularly fresh and lacked the punch I was hoping for it was just okay at best. Overall, a mixed experience: great service, some solid dishes, but not everything hit the mark.

You can never go wrong eating at Mikuni. There's something for everyone there along with a warm welcoming. It begins from the founder Taro's love culture. We literally took a drive out of Roseville to enjoy Mikuni in Davis. It's simply a nice community away from our area and offers a great walking trail by the UC Davis campus. The service there is generally chill and you can always expect quality food. There are many Mikuni locations. Pick one and enjoy!

Parking is ok. I was expecting worse, honestly. They have a parking lot within close proximity. The place is busy with lots of people. There's lots of staff that are very attentive. There's lots of menu items and variety to choose from. Party platters, single item hand rolls, nigiri, sushi rolls, sashimi, appetizers, etc. Lots of drink options as well. We opt for the $70 for two which came with two appetizers, two sushi rolls, and a dessert. The Marilyn Monroll had lots of good review so we chose that. I'm also a big fan of unagi, so we opt for the Ninety Nine Roll. Both tasted about the same. Not bad, but not great. The Xango cheesecake was a different take on cheesecake I've never had before. Everything was very mediocre (not bad but nothing to speak highly of). This was our first time here and will probably be the last. I'd much rather spend this kind of money on more authentic sushi in comparison.

Rainbow Roll and Peter 2 Roll
Mariah R.

Super Delicious! Highly recommend Peter 2 Roll! Rainbow Roll was pretty solid as well, but I'll probably get something else next time. Overall, good service and staff was nice.

Zig zag hand roll

Delicious! We walked in and luckily got a seat at the bar. This restaurant is huge and it was packed. Nice interior. Food was delicious. We ordered wine and yuzu margarita. We got the Dungeness crab hand roll, Zig zag hand roll and incredible. Everything was delicious. Great service as well. Recommend.

Nigiri Platter

Very good sushi, probably best or second best in Davis. The platters are good value for a group. Love the fresh roll and their salmon nigiri!

Chicken katsu

We were immediately seated when we arrived. We ordered the garlicky edamame which was really good and and several rolls including the Pimp My Roll, the Tasmanian roll, the Davis roll, the Spicy Tuna roll (which I would have preferred to have a bit more ingredients to compliment the spicy tuna), the Jerry roll, the negihama and the crispy gyoza! The gyoza was a nice complement to the garlicky edamame. Lastly, we ordered the chicken katsu dish. Overall, the food was good and it was delivered quite promptly. Our server didn't engage too much but the restaurant was quite busy so that is understandable.

Marissa C.

One of the best sushi restaurants we've ever been to. We keep coming back. The zigzag roll and pimp my roll are always a hit.

What's the best roll?

The Marilyn Monroll! Yum!

What are the vegan options?

Limited. 2-3 vegan rolls, maybe 2 apps. Last time I came they were a little confused about which rolls were vegan. What I did have was good.

Are dogs allowed in the outdoor seating area?

They hate dogs. I brought my service animal to the restaurant. They told me to tie my dog outside on a pole and dine in.

Is there an all you can eat option?

This isn't that type of place.

What's a good cooked sushi similar to lion king?

Hang Loose Roll

Are dogs allowed on the patio?

No they hate dogs and service animals

Shout out for West Sacramento…read more.. Did you know that right in West Sacramento there is a seafood stand selling fresh sustainable caught hook n line fish plucked from the Bodega Bay? Well know you do... Ferrari Fisheries has a stand that sells black cod, ling cod, red snapper which all are year round catches; and seasonal Dungeness crab and salmon. When they have a fresh caught batch; they text their customers what is available catch, and time & date. To get their text notifications; you can sign up on their website. I was fortunate enough to get to their stand early enough on a notification day to buy a couple of Dungeness crabs. The crabs were live, priced at $11/pound. Awesome price! When you get to the stand, there are two lines. The first line you want to get into is the one nearest the big containers where the fish on ice or crabs are kept. If you want your fish filleted, let them know. It is a complimentary service. Then you head into the other line to pay. They take cash and card, I'm not sure about other payment types. Keep in mind, the inventory sells quickly especially the seasonal items. Folks queue up earlier than the opening time stated in the texts. The start time was 10am; I got there at 10:20 am. They sold out as I was leaving the stand. Anthony (owner and fishing captain), his wife, and team are terrific. They all were helpful and had the best attitudes. Welcoming. Service ordering at the counter was friendly & patient as I looked over the menu. I eventually zeroed in on the Zesty Flavored Salmon under the Specials/ Rice Bowls. It didn't take long. Handing me the packed to-go container, I immediately noticed its heft. There was a lot of food crammed in there. As soon as I was back in my room, I peeled open the lid to get at the goodies inside. My 1st observation was that there was lot of salmon. A bunch of fresh veggies too. For being on the menu as a rice bowl, there was exactly the right amount of rice underneath everything else. This definitely was not a case of too much rice being added as an empty calories filler. All in all, it was quite tasty. Indeed, even zesty. & enormously filling. Just a massive bowl of delicious salmon/ veg/ rice w/ a sauce that tied it all together. In this economy, Good Friends Hawaiian Poke is a great value. Great spicy food and friendly staff. Food (10/10) - The food here is AMAZING! Perfect balance of spice to flavor and every single bite is electric. The sichuan numbing pepper in the Chongqing soup was DELICIOUS. Mix it with some of the white rice and you have a dish all by iteself. The chicken itself had a nice chew and was very fragrant. Loved the texture and flaovr of the vermicelli; nice bounce to the noodles while soaking in all the spicy soup. My one complaint would be that they have soft bones (sign of long boiling time) so be careful of that! Also got the spicy stir-fried pork kidney... don't diss it 'til you try it. Super good, with that nice bit of chew. Take a bite of pepper, kidney, and white rice and BOOM! Perfect bite. **Recommendation: Rice is a key component for the dishes here. Without rice, everything will be too spicy, too savory, and overall too overwhelming. The rice is the thing that helps tie everything together (as it frequently is) Service (8/10) - Good service; nothing notable. Nice people and I think most of them speak Mandarin. Service and seating was also fast. Order of things to come out of the kitchen was a bit strange: soup for the chicken, rice, stir-fry, chicken. Honestly, not that big of a problem but just decided to comment. Price (8/10) - The price here is a bit on the pricier side; $54 for 2 but there were some leftovers (had to make my own rice though). Some of the dishes are more worth than others. The Chonqing chicken was $25 but you got a large bowl of chicken with soup and vermicelli. On the other hand, the stir-fry for $20 was notably padded with vegetables and I would say a majority of the dish was not the kidney. At the very least, the taste of the food compensates. However, this place is likely not a college go-to. Overall, great restaurant that I will be coming back to again (maybe with my parents LOL) or at the very least, would come with a large group as it is more fitting for family style. Highly recommend!
