I had some family in town and we were wanting to go out to dinner. We decided on Shabu Shack although there's a few different HotPot places in town. The food was amazing and we had such a good experience. We got a lot for what we paid. The meats and vegetables are all very fresh and they have great packages for groups or a small table. I will definitely be back! read more

My family stopped in for me and my daughters birthday today and, much like before, the food was of high quality. We got the diamond tier this time instead of gold, and that opened up appetizers. This was perfect for my two young kids who love chicken karaage and gyoza. The appetizers are made fresh and take a minute to come out, but it's worth it. I guess if I had to make a recommendation here, it is that the little cup of sauce that is built into the plate just kind of spills onto the food. Not the end of the world, but maybe a small ramekin would be better. Anyway, gyoza, karaage, fried tofu, shrimp tempura, fish balls with roe, we're all great. There are drinks that come with the diamond tier can sodas, lychee lemonade, Thai tea, and more. The service was awesome this time. The severs were very attentive and working hard. All of our needs were taken care of really quickly and shabu ingredients came from the back at lightning speed. They also had more ice cream flavors this time, which my kids loved (uh hello, cookies and cream is the best). Ambiance is always nice there. I know that when I'm eating at a hotpot place I'm always looking for good AC when inside since the boiling broths can make things uncomfortable, especially in a Davis summer. This place has a nice cool dining room, which I appreciate. I don't toss around 5 stars, but this was definitely a wonderful experience worthy of such. Thanks again for the hospitality! read more

Shabu Shack is a great spot for all-you-can-eat hot pot, especially during happy hour! We chose the Diamond Tier and for the broths selected Tom Yum and Spicy Sichuan. One heads-up: the "mild" spice level is already really spicy, so I definitely recommend sticking with mild unless you're a serious spice lover. Service was a little slow since there was only one waiter, and we had to remind the server about a few of our items. That said, the food was great and the overall experience was enjoyable. read more

I come to the area occasionally for work and family and Shabu Shack is definitely a spot I'll be coming to commonly! The spicy miso and tonkatsu are my soups of choice and the beef belly (and other meats) are absolutely amazing. It's a cozy spot that's super welcoming and the food just hits great. The service is top notch too with this one girl waitress (i forget your name, sorry! Something with a J ) taking the time to explain the menu and etc for us and super courteous too. Will definitely be back every time in town. And 100% worth the visit when in the area! read more

Shabu Shack - Japanese Near Me - Davis, California

Shaun Shack in Davis a great choice for a warm and comforting hotpot style meal. I found their meat and veggies to be high quality and clean. In fact, the whole restaurant has a modern and clean feeling to it. You have the option of either creating your own hotpot or getting it in an all you can eat style. The best bang for your buck is definitely the AYCE, but if you're not that hungry, I like the fact that you can just create your own meal for a cheaper price. If you want other food items, Shabu Shack also offers up sizzling rice plates and appetizers. My wife got a sizzling rice plate and it was very tasty, but the sauce was a bit much towards the end. I also tried the chicken karaage and it came slightly over done. These were small missteps in an overall very good dining experience. My actual favorite thing I had at Shabu Shack was actually the lychee lemonade. It was a little pricey for what you get, but it was amazing. read more

I recently tried Shani Shack and I'm not even exaggerating when I say the food is so good. The wagyu steak is the star of the show. It's tender, flavorful, and honestly addictive. I genuinely can't stop myself from going back for it. I used to go for the all you can eat option, but if I'm being real, it's a little too expensive for what you get and not really worth it. I would definitely recommend just getting a medium or large wagyu instead. You still get that same amazing quality, but it feels like a much better value. One thing I really love is that they now let you make your own sauces on the side. That is such a great addition because you can customize each bite exactly how you like it, and it makes the whole experience even better. And I have to mention the wagyu fries. They are so good. It is hard to even explain, but they just hit the spot every single time. Crispy, flavorful, and the perfect side to go with the steak. Overall, this place is definitely worth trying if you are a wagyu fan. Great food, solid options, and something about it just keeps you coming back. read more

Shabu Shack - Udon noodles with rice and broth - Japanese Near Me - Davis, California

Really loved this place and the flavors. I got the two choice protein and the beef and shrimp were PERFECTLY cooked. Flavor was pouring out. I did upgrade to the Udon noodles and would highly recommend doing the same. I got the yellow Aladdin Sake and it was delicious! I think on the list it was number 6. read more

i have seen shabu shack in this plaza but never went to it into recently as i'm not someone who likes hotpot but i never looked at the menu fully and didn't realize they had sizzling plates! since then i have gone about 3 times because i really love there beef sizzling plates with rice! i would say my only complaint is i wish they put a little more meat to even out the rice ratio but i think for the price and the flavor it is great ! the restaurant itself is pretty big and it's never too crowded when i've gone a few times. the service is good and id overall recommend if you like sizzling plates ! read more

Ate here with a friend during their buy one get one 20 percent off promo. Ended up getting the premium option which included unlimited alcoholic drinks as well. Ended up enjoying their wagyu the most of their meats and the tom yum wings were a great balance of savory with an extra kick! My server Annie was an absolute pro, seemed like she was able to know where everything was and offer great pairings for specific meats and entrees. She brought our drinks and food out in a timely manner. The inside was clean and the music was quite nice, a solid vibe with ufc highlights playing in the background. read more

After a long hike we were craving shabu. We arrived at a great time and seated right away. The staff service was super nice and friendly. He helped us get our food pretty quickly and always filled our table when it looked empty. The meats were good quality and it was delicious. I really liked the spicy broth. The restaurant was clean and the tables were roomy for all food. read more

The Shabu Shabu here is solid, and the all you can eat is worth it to get at this place everything otherwise is very pricy if you do it à la carte. Their meats are good quality and their wagyu melts in your mouth. There's a good amount of sides and options available. There's plenty of indoor seating and the staff here is pretty nice and attentive read more

We came here for the first time on a Saturday around 7pm. No wait and we were able to be seated right away. The sukiyaki broth and sichuan (mild) were both tasty! Quality of meats are also reasonable for price and amount. The American wagyu and beef toro were tender and cooked quickly. I love how easily they absorb the flavor of the broth too. I wish the veggies had more variety and quantity! If you eat more, it's probably more worth to get the ayce! read more

Jenny was seriously one of the best servers we've had and she made our first time at Shabu Shack such a great experience. She was super sweet, welcoming, and really knowledgeable with the menu which helped a lot since it was our first visit. She explained things well, checked in on us, and was great at communicating when things were coming out or what to expect, which made the experience feel really smooth. You can tell she genuinely cares about her guests and it really showed. The ambience was also really nice and made the experience even better. It felt cozy, welcoming, and was such a nice place for my boyfriend and I to have our first time there together. Overall it was such a great experience and definitely somewhere we'd come back to. Thank you Jenny for making our first visit so memorable read more

Honestly the food was very mediocre for the amount of time we waited. It took at least 30 minutes before getting our drinks, and 50 minutes before getting our only appetizer which was the corn cheese (which was pretty good). It took at-least another 40 minutes before receiving at-least 2 of our sizzling plates where one was brung out incorrectly as we ordered a combo plate but only received a basic plate with 1 protein instead of 2 and in the end was still charged for a combo plate. They brung out the miso soup at the very end and it was cold. Overall wouldn't go again. read more

It took more than an hour before they serve our food. Very disorganized service. You can see the frustrations of every customer. It took 30 mins to deliver the drinks. The sizzling plate meal comes with a miso soup-- it was the coldest miso soup I've ever had. The tofu seems like it was never boiled with the soup. The servers were nice, kudos to them. I think the mismanagement was in the kitchen. We had high expectations at the beginning but ended up being frustrated that we came all the way here from Roseville just to try their food. We're never going to come back in this place ever again. read more

THE BEST PLACE FOR HOTPOT EVAA. Went with my friends and proud to say we ate it UPPPP!! Natalie, Kaylani, and Sofia treated us with such love and care, service always so good here!!! Shabu Shack - SHABU PARTAYYY - Japanese Near Me - Davis, California

Just wanted to come here and update my experience since there has been a few changes since my last review. For those looking for a new hotpot spot, and don't want to commute 30-40 minutes to Sacramento, Shabu Shack is it. They recently added a full soju night menu and the last time I went I had the lychee lush and it was so worth it. I also had a chance to try their Diamond tier finally, which had so many options including half their drink menu and their ENTIRE apps on top of all of their meats. My server this time around was Annie and she was awesome! Super quick and she recommended the smoothie which was really yummy! 10/10 read more

Stopped by to visit during a rainy day and thought shabu would be a great dinner! Came around 7pm and there was no wait at all, we got seated right away and the server was really prompt and friendly! They were doing a special for a free appetizer with the purchase of the entree so we wanted to try one of the new chicken wings in addition to our usual serving of Wagyu and pork. Our food came out really quick and the servers always stopped by to check in on us. The quality of meat here is really good and i think this location is almost better than the Elk Grove one. Would definitely come back here if im ever in the area and craving hotpot. read more

Visited at Shabu Shack for the first time in Davis and loved the service and different meat options! Would comeback again!

Stopped by here for dinner, and we were thoroughly impressed with Jared's dedication and excellent customer service. Thank you again Jared! Background: Jared opened alone. We went at open, 5pm, for the happy hour and there was a line behind us. In around 15mins of us sitting, there were 6 tables filled, most with 4 customers each. Jared triaged the customers, gave everyone notice that he was alone and set expectations on when he could assist each table. I am writing this 1hr after and every table was well taken care of. Every customer left satisfied and even with juggling the line and various tables (more customers came in), Jared found the time to give recommendations, clear tables, cater flavor's to different customer's palates and refill everyone's soups. He kept the restaurant clean and was very efficient. Most of all we were really impressed when he went out of his way to ensure a customer was not overpaying by informing them of similar item combinations. All in all, we are even more impressed by the staff here. Great job shabu shack team! read more

We stopped by on our way back from Tahoe and were so surprised by the AYCE menu here! Usually the meat quality for AYCE is low when it comes to hot pot but this is probably the best one we've tried recently + the portion size was big to make it worth it. All the sides were fresh too and the service was fast. Cameron was a great server. I'd definitely come back here again. If they elevated their peanut sauce this place would be a 10/10 in Davis!! read more

Incredible. I don't know why I haven't come before!!! First of all, the workers were so attentive - Especially Natalie and Kaylanie. I blinked and my food was out. I had a good experience in the restroom 3x too : Very clean. And the meat? Let's just say it didn't last long. And the mango soju tower? That was the cherry on top. That's what made me open Yelp. Redownloaded actually I ate the cheese corn ravenously so fast that a corn landed in my water... Highly recommend. read more

Always good to have a shabu shabu spot in town! The interior looks very modern and clean, there's plenty of space and it's not too loud. As for the food, I feel like the quality is average. I got the wagyu fries, which were fine but just some steak on frozen French fries. I got the Angus cut and the meat tastes great with the spicy broth I got. Make sure you get the sauces. I also liked the vermicelli since the broth absorbs all the flavor into the noodles. Cons: kind of pricey and you they don't give any sides included like vegetables or small plates. There's other hotpot places I've been to that include a lot more variety and they cost only $5-10 more for AYCE. read more

Ambiance: Shabu Shack is a modern shabu shabu restaurant located in downtown Davis. It's new and has a clean design that is very inviting and sets you up for an enjoyable eating experience. Service: the service was amazing. The server was very attentive and noticed when we needed help even without us asking. Food: My only concern is the food. We got the tonkotsu shabu and the miso shabu with American Kobe and Angus beef. We found the meat was was very good quality for both plates. Tender and soft like it should be. The miso broth was light and had a good miso flavor. However, the tonkotsu lacked any depth of flavor and felt bland. The rice was also hard and cold in some places. It tastes like it was just left in the rice cooker for a few day. The main concern is the thought to be sesame sauce. It was so sweet and had left a weird taste not resembling of anything we've had before. Despite it being unique, the sweetness felt so sugary and quite unappetizing read more

After a long and difficult week, my friends and I needed a good spot to eat, rant, and gossip. Someone recommended Shabu Shack to one of us and we decided to try it out on a Thursday evening. It wasn't too busy, so we got a table right away. The food was great! AYCE price isn't too bad and I loved the range of options for sides. The only complaint is that the soju tower we received had 3 spouts and only 1 was working. It was kind of inconvenient that only one person could refill our drinks or that we couldn't just do all of it at the same time. So there was really no point of having three spouts on the tower. But the soju mix itself was good and definitely not weak. Our waitress was also really attentive and the overall ambiance was nice. read more

I came here to try their Shabu Meat Ring Combo for $110. It's tons of food and can feed 2-4 people depending on appetite. The combo comes with up to three broths, three choices of meat, two large veggie platters, two sides, and 4 choices of rice/noodles. The meat quality was really good! Every bite was extremely tender. The broths were also flavorful but not overpowering. They have all the basics for sauce, but I prefer some more soy sauce! The sauces provided were a bit too sweet for me. Overall really delicious and filling meal set. They also have AYCE for $39 per person, a bit pricy but the meat quality here is amazing. Service was nothing but great! Very attentive workers throughout the meal. Filled our waters and asked if we wanted more soup pretty consistently. The inside is really nicely decorated with wall art. The floors get a bit slippery and windows fog up here, but really no biggie. Overall recommend! read more

Food was great! Super fresh, super tasty. You could taste the high quality of the meats and seafood. Did not do the AYCE option. Got the spicy tonkotsu broth and the miso broth. A bit of a spicy kick in the tonkotsu but it was really flavorful. Each entree came with a veggie bowl that had Napa cabbage, spinach, tofu, Japanese pumpkin, enoki mushrooms, and carrots. So a great variety. Came with either rice or vermicelli and dipping sauce. Inside was super clean and very esthetically pleasing with a neon sign. As far as the service we received, 0/5. Hence taking off a star. Only one guy was working but it was still slow enough for him to play on his phone. He pretty much took our order, dropped off the food, didn't check in on us, didn't refill our waters when they were empty. We put our cups at the edge of the table for him to see, he walked past us multiple times, even carrying the water pitcher but only would tend to the other tables full of girls. Me and my boyfriend had to flag him down to ask for water. And when he finally dropped off the check, it took him a long time to give the card back to us. Would come back here for the food again but I hope we get better service. read more

Shabu Shack - Waygu beef, seafood platter - Japanese Near Me - Davis, California

Shabu Shack is like that one friend who's fun to hang out with but only when they're in a good mood...otherwise, you're left wondering why you even showed up. We went on Thursday, March 13, 2025, and for once, the meat was actually good. We ordered the American Wagyu and Angus with the Sukiyaki soup base, and to our surprise, everything tasted better than usual. Tender, flavorful, no weird texture...almost like they accidentally gave us the premium batch. Which brings me to my real question: Why isn't it always like this? Some days, the meat tastes like it's been through an existential crisis, and other days, it's the best thing ever. It's the kind of inconsistency that keeps you guessing but not in a fun way. That said, prices are reasonable, and when they get it right, it's solid. So yeah, I'll probably be back. read more

ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. We ordered AYCE and THREE TIMES our order somehow magically"didn't go through." So we just sat there for 10+ minutes each time waiting like idiots with NO FOOD until we finally had to ask what was going on. And then when I asked about our missing food, the server actually caught an attitude with ME and told me not to give HER attitude, it wasn't she that placed the order. ARE YOU SERIOUS??? Maybe if your restaurant could handle basic communication and service, customers wouldn't have to keep asking where their food is. Also asked for napkins and never got them, had to grab them myself. Easily one of the WORST dining experiences I've had in a long time. Never coming back. read more

Really great service and quality meats! Our server, Emily, was attentive and kind. A great place to eat, especially on a rainy day.

Met up with friends and family for a very late Friday lunch. It wasn't crowded and parking was easy in the shared back lot. My brother got there first and he ordered the 2-4 person Shabu ring set meal for $110. This style of Hot Pot requires you to cook your own food in hot broth over an induction burner built into the table. It takes time, however, it can be fun if you like cooking. Downside for us lazy people! :) He picked the tonkatsu and miso broths. Over time, the soup got infused with flavor of the meats and veggies we cooked in there. Honestly couldn't tell which one was which, but they were all rich and flavorful. Mmmmmmm! Veggies were fresh and included Kabocha squash and cabbage. Meats he selected were Angus beef and lamb. DH was a huge fan of the lamb. He raved about the lamb's flavor and tenderness. Meats are sliced very thinly, so you have to be careful not to overcook them. Same with the noodles. Kids liked the ramen, udon, and boiled potstickers the best. I was skeptical of the ramen (it's dry, like the packaged ones), but the texture was surprisingly good once it was cooked up. Waitstaff came by frequently to clear plates and add broth. Decor is modern/upscale. Prices seem comparable to other Shabu Shabu restaurants in the Sacramento area. Quality of the ingredients is definitely worth it. Can't wait to go back the next time we're in the area! read more

Finally, Davis has a legit hot pot place!! Shabu Shack is located right next to Mikuni, so parking is not an issue with a large lot in the back. We came around 3pm, so it wasn't too crowded. I heard it gets crowded around dinner time, so get there early! My friend and I got AYCE and it was delicious! I got the tom yum and she got spicy miso. They have several soups and tons of high quality meat options to choose from!! American wagyu, beef belly toro, premium lamb, seafood, etc. I didn't get photos of all our food cuz I was too busy eating and vibing to the RnB music they play here (refreshing for here in Davis). Service is fantastic! Our waiter was very friendly and fast with getting us each round of meat and veggies. I will most definitely be back!! P.S. AYCE comes with complimentary Gunther ice cream!! Make sure to ask it for it. read more
