When I heard 88 BaoBao opened a new location in Davis, because we had good experiences with 88 BaoBao in the South Bay, while normally Yang Kee Dumpling is our go-to whenever we visit Davis, we had to give 88 BaoBao a chance to compete with Yang Kee. This location is pretty much self served, you order food using the iPad and the staff will bring them to the table. The inside of the restaurant is fairly tight, probably mainly serving takeout orders. To make the story short: 88 BaoBao did not meet our expectations. The taste of food were not on par with the other location, while the price of the dishes seem over priced. I think we'll stay with Yang Kee Dumpling.

TLDR: Convenient location, easy ordering, and solid Asian food at reasonable prices. The beef rolls were surprisingly really good. -------- This spot is located in the same plaza as Trader Joe's, which makes it very convenient to get to. When my friends and I visited, it was pretty busy, but the setup made things move smoothly. You can either dine in or order to go. For to go orders, there is a small kiosk area where you wait. If you dine in, which is what I chose, there are tablets at the table that let you place your order directly without waiting for a server. You also get your own cold water or tea from the pitchers near the to go kiosk. After you're done eating, you pay at the front register. I ordered three dishes. The beef rolls were easily the best of the three. The dough was nicely crisped, and the beef had a rich umami flavor that really stood out. The egg fried rice was simple and nothing particularly special, but it was still well seasoned and satisfying. The sesame chicken could have been a bit crispier, but the flavor was great and still enjoyable overall. Overall, this is a solid Asian food option in Davis with reasonable prices. I would definitely come back, especially for the beef rolls.

We were a little hungry and just wanted a little snack. We ordered some steam pork buns. The restaurant was filled with people eating at tables. The place is not very big, but there is a good number of tables. You order your food at the tablet at the table or there is a to go kiosk by the door. There was someone using the to go kiosk when we walked. We waited for like minute and the person at the counter helped us with our order. It was nice we didn't have to wait long to place our order. The steamed bun was nice and hot when we got our bag. Tasted pretty good. We would love to come back to try out some of the other items on the menu. The place was clean, had good service, and from the one item we tried. It was pretty good.

Nice restaurant near UC Davis, walking distance from Yosemite dorm and Ulta.We are greeted by friendly staff and seated right away,Ordering is easy since they have the tablet in each table.Food is well prepared and delicious,we enjoyed the crab and pork xiaolong bao, steak is sliced very thin and well seasoned.Prices are reasonable and the food are shareable.

Came here to try the new restaurants by TJs. We finally picked Baobao simply because of the menu variety. They have pork buns, dumplings, noodles, fried rice and the yummy ramen. We had the tonkotsu and black garlic ramen. It was so delicious and flavorful. The meat is so tender and the egg was cooked to perfection. The broth has the umami flavor. The pork buns as well as the red bean buns were also on point. The bun was so fluffy and cakey. The fillings were heavenly although I wished they had more fillings. Lumpia was divine! Very well seasoned. Vegetable Chow mein was savory. Did I mention the servings were VERY generous? Everything was served fresh. Jiang ( might misspelled her name) was so warm and friendly. She was attentive and patient with us. She answered all our questions and explained the dishes. The bao takes 15 minutes to prepare as they are made fresh. The other guy server was also nice and checked on us. Place is small but clean. Lots of people ordering take out. I highly recommend this place. I will be going back for more.

Din Tai Fung but much more affordable and, dare I say, tasty! I believe 88 Bao Bao might be the best dimsum place in Davis! The restaurant was packed and my boyfriend and I had to wait 15 minutes for a table. We ordered from a kiosk and our food took around 15 minutes to arrive. The wontons in chili oil were amazing. The fried rice could have used a bit more flavor but we just added their garlic and chili oil. The chasu pork buns were delicious!! The cucumber matched the pork very well and the buns were so soft and fluffy. Finally, the xiaolong bao is a staple- definitely can't go wrong with those. In total, we were very satisfied with such a filling meal. I find myself craving those pork buns.

Black garlic ramen - I order this a lot and have to say the broth flavor on this was top tier. Lots of roasted garlic cloves as well. Delicious ramen! Not over board in black pepper which I feel like happens a lot with ramen. Perfectly cooked soft egg and yummy corn! Also got the wontons in chili oil which were fabulous! My husband was worried about spice but I love it and I am happy to share it was not over the top spicy. Great flavor. Also got the pork xiaolong bao ( soup dumplings) so yummy! Albeit insanely hot and steamy. But once cooled off we inhaled them. I also appreciate the free green tea ice tea and the nice table garnish of garlic sauce, vinegar and chili paste. Also loved the soup dumpling spoons to keep from making a mess.

This place is not bad. It seems the price is very similar to other ramen shops in Davis. However the quality is mid. Tho I ordered a black garlic ramen, what I got was not the same as black garlic ramen from other reputable ramen shops. The only saving grace is that the portion is big enough to share. Instead of the dumplings, we ordered the bbq pork buns. That's an interesting take. Get ramen and dumplings/SLBs/BBQPB at the same locale. This is many Asian restaurants rolled into one. For that it can be both good or bad. They are either Jack of all Trades or Master of None. The verdict is still out. I guess you need to risk it all for yourself. Service is ok. Ambiance is better than expected. Average C for Chinese Cuisine with Ramen

Tried the Shanghai Shrimp Chowmein, Beef Roll, and the leek, pork, and shrimp dumplings. Overall, the eating experience was okay because the dishes were SO oily and the the oil that they used for the beef roll tasted a bit old. The Chowmein lacked flavor or "wok hei" which was not impressive. The beef roll lacked the cilantro (?) and the beef was dry and there was hardly any hoisin sauce (like a streak LOL). The overall beef roll was underwhelming, oily, skinny, and dry. The dumplings had such a thick skin but was actually juicy- not bad. The best part of the meal was the chili oil which had a Sichuan spice and paired well with the vinegar. The interior is small which had about 7 tables. And there is a kiosk to order. Service was good.

Super tasty, made to have it family style. The soup dumplings was amazing. The staff helped with the digital ordering and the food came out really quick.

It's in the place formerly known as the U-Mall, across the Mendocino Farms which you can see from the road (Russell Blvd.). Food- nice and hot. Reasonably seasoned, although "it isn't like SF" (sorry you didn't get in to Cal) we get it. The wrappers on the XLB seemed a bit thick, I must admit. Service- the internet was down when we got there but it looks like you order at the table via tablet and they bring it out to you. Ambiance- nothing too crazy. They're doing what lots of folks are doing now with the clear wall to the kitchen so you can see what's being made. First try, will come back again.

Another addition to the budding Davis Collection! I was fortunate to beat the dinner crowd on a Friday because both their parking and dine-in spaces are limited. You place your order yourself with the tablet at your table, and then pay your bill at the counter afterward. You can also grab water and ice tea yourself in the corner near the entrance. We ordered xiaolongbao, shaomai, beef rolls, wonton in chili oil, and the shrimp rice noodle. For a fast-causal restaurant, the food is decent, but nothing to write home about. The meal will fill you up, but leave you wanting for more. Might stop by for a quick meal when I'm craving dim sum but probably won't go out of my way.

Tried out this pretty new place.in Davis. Food: 3 - ordered 4 items (cucumber, squid, sesame chicken, fried soup buns). 3 were very sweet. The sesame chicken was a mistake. We thought it was like the popcorn (no sauce) but it was sweet sticky sauce thick breaded chicken. Cucumber good and fresh but sweet sauce. Squid cooked perfect but covered in sweet chili sauce. Souo buns were awesome! Ambiance: 4. Staff very friendly, attentative. Nice wall paintings. Just tight space or else 5. Service: 5 Would give this experience a 3.5 but think rounding up is more fair. I think most do t mind the sweet sauces. Will go back to the savory items and get more fried soup buns (they are nuclear hit so give them time to cool off. Like 10 mins).

Yang Kee Dumpling is located in a small strip mall, equipped with plenty of parking, and EV chargers. When arrived it wasn't too busy, and the hostess showed me to my table. In front of my table was where the staff was making dumplings (they were behind glass). After looking at the menu, I opted to get some traditional soup dumplings, bbq pork fried rice, and pineapple bao buns for dessert. My server was Bing and she was nice and efficient. She came back to check on me a few times throughout my dining experience. My fried rice came out first. It was a LARGE serving of fried rice, it of course had eggs, carrots, peas, and BBQ pork. It was flavorful. Next came out the soup dumplings. They were brought out in a steamer basket with a top to keep them warm. These were amazing. The light and delicate dough, mixed with the savory pork filling, and the salty broth was perfection. Next came out my pineapple bao buns. To be honest, I wasn't sure how I was going to like them. To my surprise these may have been the star of the show. The dough was light and sweet, the top was carmelized and sweet, and the custard inside reminded me of a Dole Whip from disney (exept it wasn't cold, it was warm). These were pretty large and I'm semi embarrassed to admint I had 2 3/4 bao buns myself. Go here. It's delicious.

We were both pretty hungry afterwards and weren't sure what places were open, or what we wanted to eat. We decided to drive around downtown Davis just to get a sense of what was open, and saw that Tasty Kitchen was bustling. We had never eaten there before, but as it was pretty much our only option besides fast food (which I did not want), we decided to try them out and have a good Thanksgiving dinner. I took a quick browse at their Yelp reviews before heading in, and the food looked pretty good, so I figured why not. Since we had come pretty much on a whim (I usually heavily research restaurants before trying new places), we weren't quite sure what to order, but I knew I wanted some carbs. We wanted to share a fried rice, so we chose the dried scallop and egg white fried rice. My husband was eyeing the beef stew lo mein, and I was eager to try the beef chow fun with black bean sauce. We were seated quickly and given hot tea to enjoy. It had been a cold day, so the tea was very welcome. We placed our order and then sat back to people watch while we waited. There were a few large groups dining in, but while watching the staff, they all worked efficiently, and food was constantly coming out of the kitchen. Delivery drivers and those who called in for takeout were also coming and going. We waited a while for our food, but it was also because everyone seemed to have ordered at the same time for the dinner rush (and we had come around 17:45 too). I guess everyone was feeling like an early Thanksgiving dinner. We were honestly amazed by the huge portion sizes when our dishes arrived to our table. Everything was reasonably priced as well, and we knew we would have plenty of leftovers. The beef chow fun with black bean sauce was delightfully saucy, and the noodles still had a nice wok hay. The beef was extremely velvety and tender. My husband enjoyed his beef stew lo mein. The egg noodles were perfectly bouncy, and the braised beef was tender. The dried scallop egg white fried rice was pretty good as well. I had hoped for a bit more wok hay and scallop flavor, but it was a little under seasoned. I would say it was a nice palette cleanser if you will, and at least the rice was nice and fluffy. I would have to say that the food here is comforting and hearty, but it didn't have as much depth of flavor as I would have liked. However, you really get your money's worth when you come here. It was $49 for everything before tip, and we had so many leftovers to take home. Our waiter even took our plates and packaged them to go for us, so that was a nice touch. I'm used to packaging my own leftovers these days. There's something for everyone at this restaurant, and I would like to be back to try some of their other dishes. Another table across from us ordered the Mongolian beef, which came on a sizzling platter, and that smelled so good. That will definitely be a contender next time we visit. I'm definitely thankful that Tasty Kitchen was open on Thanksgiving, and will keep this restaurant in our rotation for a holiday meal.

My husband and I came here after lunch and ordered two sauce, fried rice, a spicy, braised beef dish, and gai lan (Chinese broccoli). I was so excited to eat the fried rice and it tasted exactly like what I imagined it to taste like. I don't typically like really starchy, thick sauces, but that was exactly what I was looking for. I don't know, it's not like it's anything super special or a crazy amazing delicious dish, it's just a nostalgic taste that I really missed and used to only be able to get at the old tea house in Davis over a decade ago. The spicy braised beef, unfortunately was the kind of spicy. I didn't want it to be, so if you don't like tongue, numbing spicy, this is not the dish for you. That being said, the rest of the dish was good, I found the meat to be quite tender And well seasoned, when I could taste beyond numbness, lol. Vegetables are vegetables, really not more to say about that. I'll definitely come back for the fried rice and to try other clay pot dishes, which they have a lot of variety of. Also, it seems like a lot of people really enjoy their duck, so I'll be make sure to order that next time. In terms of ambience or service, it is a Chinese restaurant. You get what you get, and that is a person who brings your food out. Just kidding (kind of) I'm not expecting five star restaurant levels of service at this price point. Plates and cups were clean, the server came when I raised my hand, idk I don't really need more than that! Also, as a Vietnamese person who always has cash on her, I love when I get a discount (5%) for using cash.

Beef Fried Rice Noodles: How do you differentiate if this dish is good or not, it is about how much excessive oil that's left on the plate. The stir fried was good, not too greasy, and they marinate the meat well. Unlike other Chinese restaurants, this place's meat was good. Only they could stir fried with even higher eat to create more "wok air" Sticky Rice Stick with Brown Sugar: First time trying this dish, so not sure what to expect. But it does seem to be a dessert to me, my comment would be higher if the rice stick is more chewy. Hot & Sour Shredded Potato: This is common dish from northern part of China. I went from a thin top to a medium weight sweater. We arrived in Davis I grabbed my jacket to pair with my sweater. Today was a day spent exploring Davis to see the California Conference for the Advancement of Ceramic Arts (CCACA). What a great Conference. We come each year for this Conference and explore Davis every time we are here. After exploring the first building of the show it was coming on time to eat. We looked around the current shopping center and my husband didn't see anything he was craving. He said we'll go more into town and look for a noodle place. He said he remembered one from our last visit, down one of the alleys. Walking up the street we saw a couple of advertisements. A sandwich board was on the sidewalk for Davis Noodle CIty, the exact place we were looking for. The little Noodle Shop in the alley. We weaved through the other businesses, past the dumpling restaurant, past the outdoor seating and to the front door of the Davis Noodle City Restaurant. The out door seating looked really welcoming, but it was chilly out so we opted for eating inside with the other table that was occupied. There were 3 parties eating outside when we arrived. When we walked inside we were greeted and told to take any table. We choose a table in the corner. The menus were under the glass table top, keeping it clean and easy to read. Each place setting had its own copy of the menu. After looking at the menu, remembering what was offered on the sandwich board in front, and cross referencing it with Yelp Reviews we started ordering. We opted for the Five Spice Beef Noodles, and I asked if that was a good option and she said it was their top seller. The Yelp Reviews were only ok for that dish, but I took our chances. The second dish we ordered was the Dan Dan Noodles She tried to upscale us to the one with vegetables, but that dish was a cold dish so we when for the standard Dan Dan Noodles. Both dishes came out quickly. The Dan Dan noodles were not spicy as I anticipated, which was good, I wasn't really looking for spicy. I liked the flavor and realized that if you mixed it up there is a sauce on the bottom that is really tasty. Dan Dan Noodles ($8.25 a steal) is a solid dish and I highly reccomend it. It's a great bowlful of noodles. If you are hopping for other ingredients you are out of luck, it's 100% noodles with a sprinkling of peanuts on top and a sauce on the bottom. The Five Spice Beef Noodle Soup ($12.75)was as described in the reviews. It comes with American Broccoli and carrots. The beef is so good it melts in your mouth. The broth is minimal and lacked flavor. I'd think that it's advertised as Five Spice that it would have more flavor. I don't reccomend it if you are looking for a strong flavor. If you are looking for great meat, that melts in your mouth, but is also a little fatty then you have the perfect dish. Both dishes came with fresh noodles, none of those dried and rehydrated noodles that some places serve. The noodles on both dishes were different and pleasant. I highly reccomend their fresh noodles. Customer service was good. She came to check up on us and was pleasant. Parking is street parking. And they have a bathroom on site that is clean and well stocked.

Unfortunately, this place has both bad service and food is not great. 2 stars for the price. Food (3/10) - I don't know how to describe it outside of the fact that it's just bland. I got the "Marco Polo noodles" which is just Chinese jia jiang mien. Let's start with the positives. I liked the noodle texture; it had a nice spring and were thick for a decent chew. Now, onto the bad. You could just tell that the noodles would be bland just by a look and smell. The smell of the bowl wasn't one of fragrant stir-fried pork but it actually smelled like starchy water. The sauce was super watery and had no flavor and I don't think there was even ground pork in the noodles. From what I could tell, it was some diced up mushroom and then black bean paste, without black bean flavor might I add. I had to add a GENEROUS amount of soy sauce and chili oil to make it taste decent. Honestly, I'd say it's pretty hard to mess up this dish as a whole and there's a lot of leeway on flavor but I have not tasted something that bland in a while. On the opposite end of the spectrum, we have the thai tea. This thing was so sweet that it was borderline undrinkable. I had to wait for the ice to melt in the drink before it was bearable and even then, it still left this residual sticky taste in my mouth. Also it's 4 dollars for canned thai tea; she grabbed it out the fridge. The only sort of saving grace of this restaurant is that it's relatively cheap. $12.50 for a good portion of noodles might convince me to go back(?) VERY BIG maybe though. I might want to try their soup noodles. Service (5/10) - It didn't really seem like she wanted me to be there. She kind of just sat behind the counter on her phone with an Airpod in the whole time. She was just on her phone the whole time and overall inattentive. When she was, she was just asking if I was ready to order (twice in the span of under 3-ish minutes). Ambiance (6/10) - Eh. It was just kinda weird. The lighting was dingy. Also didn't like how they left dirty tables around (clearly looked like they had been there for a while). Overall, probably wouldn't visit again. Might give it a second chance but food for price was pretty good. Unfortunately, bad food for good price is a no-go for me.

Recently came to celebrate Lunar New Year and everything we got was absolutely delicious and we all had left overs to enjoy the next day. We ordered the west lake beef soup, ribs garlic sauce, duck chow mein, beef string bean, and fried sesame seed balls. The soup was light and flavorful, the ribs were juicy and had perfectly crispy skin, the string beans were fresh, the chow mein was not overly greasy, and the sesame balls we're super hot and tasty. The staff were also super nice and helpful. Will definitely come back.
