So grateful to my friend for introducing me to this spot. They regularly come here for delicious, affordable, and authentic Cantonese food. Recently came to celebrate Lunar New Year and everything we got was absolutely delicious and we all had left overs to enjoy the next day. We ordered the west lake beef soup, ribs garlic sauce, duck chow mein, beef string bean, and fried sesame seed balls. The soup was light and flavorful, the ribs were juicy and had perfectly crispy skin, the string beans were fresh, the chow mein was not overly greasy, and the sesame balls we're super hot and tasty. We stumbled in here for dinner after being nearby in Davis to take care of some business. Looked on Yelp and this restaurant had good ratings, so we decided to give it a try. Didn't disappoint as both the food and service were great. Luckily, we went early, so there was no wait. We started off with the Wonton in Chili Oil. These were really good - similar to a dish we get in Roseville at Uncle Dumpling. For dinner, we had the Cashew Chicken, Duck Fried Rice, and Beef Chow Fun. All very good. If you in the area to find something to eat you need to stop here and take food home. The lady here is so incredibly nice that she will remember what you order and makes sure your food is made as requested. Driving back from Reno to the Bay Area on I80 and we were hungry for Dim Sum and homestyle Cantonese food. We saw Tasty Gourmet listing both options and decided to take a meal break. TG is located on the back side of a strip mall and has plenty of free parking. The restaurant is not flashy, has a number of tables for dining in, and appears to do plenty of takeout. Their Dim Sum choices are limited but cover the basics. The four of us ordered for lunch: - Shiu Mai (steamed pork and shrimp dumplings, 4 to an order) - Har Guow (steamed shrimp dumplings, 4 to an order) - Roast Duck Fried Rice (not many places have this) - Tomato Beef Gheen Mien (special order off menu as we noticed they had TB Chow Fun and Seafood Gheen Mien and figured they could produce the TB GM which they did with no problem). Most Cantonese restaurants with competent chefs can interchange with no problems. Probably could have added curry to the TB GM to make TCB GM... if you can decipher, then you're a bonafide Cantonese food eater. The food is very tasty and nutritious, and I can highly recommend it. If the owner -- an older Chinese woman -- is present, you can also expect excellent service. But this morning, the manager didn't walk in until almost 10 minutes after the restaurant's posted opening time, forcing me to wait uncomfortably. He then charged me for two orders of rice that he did not include in my take-home bag, as I discovered at home when I opened it. He also packed one of the food orders so casually that all the juice/sauce leaked out of the food container into the take-home bag, after it tipped over slightly in my car. This is THE spot to go if you're broke too - I have never had less than 3 meals out of the leftovers from this place before. Service is always good. It's on the backside of a strip mall. I've lived in Davis for 11 years and never knew this mall was there. ?? Tiny signage, I drove right past the place. I went at dinner time to place a takeout order and there was only one table seated. I was a little nervous but they were pretty busy with pick up orders. Very basic interior but the reason I gave them 5 stars, the food (egg rolls, fried rice, veg medley and Mongolian Beef) was all very good. And the lady running the place deserves her own tv show. She was so warm, friendly and inviting. She offered me a complimentary beverage, a menu to take home, apologized for the wait (the food actually came out really fast) and gave me a complimentary order of sesame balls and told me these were because I was so nice to her. The area seems deserted when I went for dinner. My friend and I were the only ones who dined in. They had a variety of Chinese foods on the menu and some specials posted on the wall and windows. I tried the duck fried rice. I was expecting roasted duck on the bone with fried rice. The duck wad already chopped and mixed in with the fried rice. It was a fairly big plate. I was just going to only eat half then take home the other half. But it was that good that I decided to just eat the whole plate. Lovely to see Maggie's own restaurant! (She used to run Four Seasons in south Davis back in the day). We got some food to go; the portions felt pretty big, though price point is a little higher. I probably wouldn't get the braised seafood with tofu clay pot next time, as the flavor was a little too squidy and watery overall. Not very pleasant. This dish was pretty pricey too. The eggplant in garlic sauce was delicious and super flavorful, tender and plentiful! I'd recommend this, and maybe next time I would try the variation with tofu. The mango spareribs were just ok. Some pieces were pretty good (tender meat), while other pieces were pretty boney and and had a funky pork smell. It was interesting, but I would not recommend it. The prawn chow fun was not too bad; I was ordering the scrambled egg version but got this instead. The chow fun was good while hot, but didn't taste too good once it really cooled down. The service is fast and ambiance comfortable, but one major issue I have is how they serve water in plastic bottles purchased from Costco. My favorite part of the experience beside the food is the service, where the older ladies treat you like a long lost grandchild and give you more fortune cookies than you asked for when you bring a child of your own. Super cute spot and super amazing food! The ladies running this spot remind me of family, and the food they serve makes me feel so cozy and warm. Their honey walnut prawns are my favorite anywhere! I love the sauce that they put on them, sweet and sticky but not overwhelming. The egg flower soup is super delicious too! When my partner and I ordered it, a worker personally ladled it into small bowls for us--really made us feel at home, super kind. It's delicious, filling, and everything you'd want in a soup.
