    Fried Sesame Seed Balls 6
    Scott L.

Driving back from Reno to the Bay Area on I80 and we were hungry for Dim Sum and homestyle Cantonese food. We saw Tasty Gourmet listing both options and decided to take a meal break. TG is located on the back side of a strip mall and has plenty of free parking. The restaurant is not flashy, has a number of tables for dining in, and appears to do plenty of takeout. Their Dim Sum choices are limited but cover the basics. The four of us ordered for lunch: - Shiu Mai (steamed pork and shrimp dumplings, 4 to an order) - Har Guow (steamed shrimp dumplings, 4 to an order) - Roast Duck Fried Rice (not many places have this) - Tomato Beef Gheen Mien (special order off menu as we noticed they had TB Chow Fun and Seafood Gheen Mien and figured they could produce the TB GM which they did with no problem). Most Cantonese restaurants with competent chefs can interchange with no problems. Probably could have added curry to the TB GM to make TCB GM... if you can decipher, then you're a bonafide Cantonese food eater. LOL. - Sesame Balls (6 fried sesame balls for dessert, filled with red bean paste) All the food came out hot and very tasty. We ate it all up! Service from Rebecca was very hospitable and welcoming. She's a very good host and an overall nice person. A good stop for us and we'll be back in September.

I've been coming here for years and have never had a bad meal. The food is always delicious and reminds me of my dad's cooking, no matter what I get. This is THE spot to go if you're broke too - I have never had less than 3 meals out of the leftovers from this place before. Service is always good. It's a family run place so the wait staff tend to recognize their regulars and go above and beyond to ensure you have a good time. It's a bit on the bare side inside but they let the food speak for itself.

It was my first time here and i was pleasantly surprised with the quality and freshness of the dishes. The seafood noodles were so crispy and the flavor was not too salty. The steamed bbq baos were fluffy, soft and had a delicious bbq filling. The pan fried dumplings were also pretty solid, with a nice crispy exterior and flavorful beef filling. The service was fast and friendly, and we got our food really fast. The ambiance was filled with families and a clean interior which made it comfortable to dine in. I'd come again to try more items!

My family ordered takeout from tasty gourmet to celebrate lunar new year! We ordered salt & pepper fish, eggplant and garlic sauce with cod, honey walnut shrimp, and seafood tofu clay pot. Food was very fresh - I had to wait a bit for my pick up. The clay pot exceeded my expectations: the scallops were huge and the dish very flavorful. We really liked pairing the eggplant was rice - will definitely order the eggplant again as well. I will consider eating there next time instead of ordering take out! Feel like it will be even better!

Great vibe, lovely little spot run by a very sweet couple. The food is excellent: great breading on the generals/sesame/sweet&sour type stuff. I also LOVED the roasted duck fried rice, their specialty. Really good fried rice and great flavored, fatty duck. Delicious!

The area seems deserted when I went for dinner. My friend and I were the only ones who dined in. They had a variety of Chinese foods on the menu and some specials posted on the wall and windows. I tried the duck fried rice. I was expecting roasted duck on the bone with fried rice. The duck wad already chopped and mixed in with the fried rice. It was a fairly big plate. I was just going to only eat half then take home the other half. But it was that good that I decided to just eat the whole plate. Yes it was oily but that's what you expect with fried rice from a Chinese restaurant. You bet that there was the wok flavor to it. The service was good and the food came out quick.

Lovely to see Maggie's own restaurant! (She used to run Four Seasons in south Davis back in the day). We got some food to go; the portions felt pretty big, though price point is a little higher. The seafood (shrimp and scallop) used in the dishes were super large and delicious. Good quality, except for the calamari. It was so tough and overcooked. I probably wouldn't get the braised seafood with tofu clay pot next time, as the flavor was a little too squidy and watery overall. Not very pleasant. This dish was pretty pricey too. The eggplant in garlic sauce was delicious and super flavorful, tender and plentiful! I'd recommend this, and maybe next time I would try the variation with tofu. The mango spareribs were just ok. Some pieces were pretty good (tender meat), while other pieces were pretty boney and and had a funky pork smell. It was interesting, but I would not recommend it. The prawn chow fun was not too bad; I was ordering the scrambled egg version but got this instead. The chow fun was good while hot, but didn't taste too good once it really cooled down. The rice plates looked pretty good (mmm beef curry brisket), as well as their dim sum.

    Why no delivery services?

Delivery services take a large cut of the sale. Up to 1/3 of the ticket. Call in your order and pickup. Easy parking right up front and the people that operate Tasty Gourmet are fantastic.

Is this placed owned by the same owners as Four Seasons Gourmet (the one attached to the gas station)? If yes, do the owners own both this location and the old location? Or did they sell off the old place?

The owner of Tasty Gourmet used to work at Four Seasons, but then retired a few years ago. Apparently she got bored at home, so she decided to open up her own restaurant!

Yang Kee Dumpling is located in a small strip mall, equipped with plenty of parking, and EV chargers. When arrived it wasn't too busy, and the hostess showed me to my table. In front of my table was where the staff was making dumplings (they were behind glass). After looking at the menu, I opted to get some traditional soup dumplings, bbq pork fried rice, and pineapple bao buns for dessert. My server was Bing and she was nice and efficient. She came back to check on me a few times throughout my dining experience. My fried rice came out first. It was a LARGE serving of fried rice, it of course had eggs, carrots, peas, and BBQ pork. It was flavorful. Next came out the soup dumplings. They were brought out in a steamer basket with a top to keep them warm. These were amazing. The light and delicate dough, mixed with the savory pork filling, and the salty broth was perfection. Next came out my pineapple bao buns. To be honest, I wasn't sure how I was going to like them. To my surprise these may have been the star of the show. The dough was light and sweet, the top was carmelized and sweet, and the custard inside reminded me of a Dole Whip from disney (exept it wasn't cold, it was warm). These were pretty large and I'm semi embarrassed to admint I had 2 3/4 bao buns myself. Go here. It's delicious.

We were both pretty hungry afterwards and weren't sure what places were open, or what we wanted to eat. We decided to drive around downtown Davis just to get a sense of what was open, and saw that Tasty Kitchen was bustling. We had never eaten there before, but as it was pretty much our only option besides fast food (which I did not want), we decided to try them out and have a good Thanksgiving dinner. I took a quick browse at their Yelp reviews before heading in, and the food looked pretty good, so I figured why not. Since we had come pretty much on a whim (I usually heavily research restaurants before trying new places), we weren't quite sure what to order, but I knew I wanted some carbs. We wanted to share a fried rice, so we chose the dried scallop and egg white fried rice. My husband was eyeing the beef stew lo mein, and I was eager to try the beef chow fun with black bean sauce. We were seated quickly and given hot tea to enjoy. It had been a cold day, so the tea was very welcome. We placed our order and then sat back to people watch while we waited. There were a few large groups dining in, but while watching the staff, they all worked efficiently, and food was constantly coming out of the kitchen. Delivery drivers and those who called in for takeout were also coming and going. We waited a while for our food, but it was also because everyone seemed to have ordered at the same time for the dinner rush (and we had come around 17:45 too). I guess everyone was feeling like an early Thanksgiving dinner. We were honestly amazed by the huge portion sizes when our dishes arrived to our table. Everything was reasonably priced as well, and we knew we would have plenty of leftovers. The beef chow fun with black bean sauce was delightfully saucy, and the noodles still had a nice wok hay. The beef was extremely velvety and tender. My husband enjoyed his beef stew lo mein. The egg noodles were perfectly bouncy, and the braised beef was tender. The dried scallop egg white fried rice was pretty good as well. I had hoped for a bit more wok hay and scallop flavor, but it was a little under seasoned. I would say it was a nice palette cleanser if you will, and at least the rice was nice and fluffy. I would have to say that the food here is comforting and hearty, but it didn't have as much depth of flavor as I would have liked. However, you really get your money's worth when you come here. It was $49 for everything before tip, and we had so many leftovers to take home. Our waiter even took our plates and packaged them to go for us, so that was a nice touch. I'm used to packaging my own leftovers these days. There's something for everyone at this restaurant, and I would like to be back to try some of their other dishes. Another table across from us ordered the Mongolian beef, which came on a sizzling platter, and that smelled so good. That will definitely be a contender next time we visit. I'm definitely thankful that Tasty Kitchen was open on Thanksgiving, and will keep this restaurant in our rotation for a holiday meal.

My husband and I came here after lunch and ordered two sauce, fried rice, a spicy, braised beef dish, and gai lan (Chinese broccoli). I was so excited to eat the fried rice and it tasted exactly like what I imagined it to taste like. I don't typically like really starchy, thick sauces, but that was exactly what I was looking for. I don't know, it's not like it's anything super special or a crazy amazing delicious dish, it's just a nostalgic taste that I really missed and used to only be able to get at the old tea house in Davis over a decade ago. The spicy braised beef, unfortunately was the kind of spicy. I didn't want it to be, so if you don't like tongue, numbing spicy, this is not the dish for you. That being said, the rest of the dish was good, I found the meat to be quite tender And well seasoned, when I could taste beyond numbness, lol. Vegetables are vegetables, really not more to say about that. I'll definitely come back for the fried rice and to try other clay pot dishes, which they have a lot of variety of. Also, it seems like a lot of people really enjoy their duck, so I'll be make sure to order that next time. In terms of ambience or service, it is a Chinese restaurant. You get what you get, and that is a person who brings your food out. Just kidding (kind of) I'm not expecting five star restaurant levels of service at this price point. Plates and cups were clean, the server came when I raised my hand, idk I don't really need more than that! Also, as a Vietnamese person who always has cash on her, I love when I get a discount (5%) for using cash.

My kid mentioned they usually are very pack and people would dine outdoor, but I guess we arrived early so there wasn't any wait time. Ordered few items, food came out very fast and the tastes are not bad at all. Beef Fried Rice Noodles: How do you differentiate if this dish is good or not, it is about how much excessive oil that's left on the plate. The stir fried was good, not too greasy, and they marinate the meat well. Unlike other Chinese restaurants, this place's meat was good. Only they could stir fried with even higher eat to create more "wok air" Sticky Rice Stick with Brown Sugar: First time trying this dish, so not sure what to expect. But it does seem to be a dessert to me, my comment would be higher if the rice stick is more chewy. Hot & Sour Shredded Potato: This is common dish from northern part of China. The way they prepared was awesome. The potato was not starchy and the seasoning is just right. A bit greasy but this is actually my favorite dish! Shrimp and Pork with Chives Dumplings: Meat is fresh and dumpling wrap is great too. Each dumpling size is not too big and wasn't torn. Taste is okay but maybe try another filling if I visit again. I would come again to try out other things on the menu if I'm visiting my kid again.

We had the seafood tofu hotpot, shrimp wonton, garlic green bean, mongolian beef, half hainan chicken, and ny steak spaghetti to-go. Was a little busy at 7 on a holiday so we waited like ten minutes to get our order in, the guy memorized our order right as I said it lol. He confirmed and we got our soup in ten mins, ten mins for green beans and mongolian beef, another ten minutes for our chicken, then like seven for hotpot. Most disappointing was chicken, it's not hainan at all and just standard hong kong white chicken. Taste is fine and fresh but was sad. Best was the seafood hotpot AND the wonton soup. Both had great flavor and saltiness and was just sooo good. Wontons were very tasty and had a lot of meat, definitely both pork and shrimp, and soup even had little shrimp in it ifkyk. The seafood hotpot had great variety and flavor, my parents were pleased with the fish bits in it, the tofu was yummy bc it's fried tofu, the crab texture was not great maybe overcooked and I didn't like the soft cucumber but otherwise the broccoli scallop shrimp tofu fish bok choy was all great. Green beans and mongolian beef SERIOUSLY needed some wok flavor and wish the beef had black pepper because the seasoning was a bit lacking (wok flavor would be great here) and overall the vegetables were a little undercooked. They were addictive though I definitely kept going back for more. Hot tea is jasmine tea. Service was a bit lackluster but totally understandable and even though I was in a rush we were in and out by an hour and like ten minutes which worked. Ambiance wise, I didn't like how the lights are half brighter and whiter than the sun and half nicely softly lit. Tables are nice wood and a bit sticky but okay. There's random Chinese TV on the walls, very traditional lol and I think no music. Overall very pleased! Will definitely come back as much as possible to support, and highly highly recommend. I hate to say it because the workers are very friendly and I love hearing people speak Canto when I'm homesick. Very casual ambiance, might have a wait to be seated but they take a reasonable amount of time to get your food out after ordering. Have a few vegetarian options as well. It is conviently downtown unlike Yang Kee, but I still dont come back to here. I'm glad they've found their audience and seem to be doing well, though.

Wow! Ascended to my #1 restaurant spot in Davis. Definitely more of an infrequent meal since I…read morewould consider it more on the expensive side. Average dishes are ~20 dollars. Great spicy food and friendly staff. Food (10/10) - The food here is AMAZING! Perfect balance of spice to flavor and every single bite is electric. The sichuan numbing pepper in the Chongqing soup was DELICIOUS. Mix it with some of the white rice and you have a dish all by iteself. The chicken itself had a nice chew and was very fragrant. Loved the texture and flaovr of the vermicelli; nice bounce to the noodles while soaking in all the spicy soup. My one complaint would be that they have soft bones (sign of long boiling time) so be careful of that! Also got the spicy stir-fried pork kidney... don't diss it 'til you try it. Super good, with that nice bit of chew. Take a bite of pepper, kidney, and white rice and BOOM! Perfect bite. **Recommendation: Rice is a key component for the dishes here. Without rice, everything will be too spicy, too savory, and overall too overwhelming. The rice is the thing that helps tie everything together (as it frequently is) Service (8/10) - Good service; nothing notable. Nice people and I think most of them speak Mandarin. Service and seating was also fast. Order of things to come out of the kitchen was a bit strange: soup for the chicken, rice, stir-fry, chicken. Honestly, not that big of a problem but just decided to comment. Price (8/10) - The price here is a bit on the pricier side; $54 for 2 but there were some leftovers (had to make my own rice though). Some of the dishes are more worth than others. The Chonqing chicken was $25 but you got a large bowl of chicken with soup and vermicelli. On the other hand, the stir-fry for $20 was notably padded with vegetables and I would say a majority of the dish was not the kidney. At the very least, the taste of the food compensates. However, this place is likely not a college go-to. Overall, great restaurant that I will be coming back to again (maybe with my parents LOL) or at the very least, would come with a large group as it is more fitting for family style. Highly recommend!

I've never dined in, only ordered take out to eat at a friend's place or other gathering spot. Orders are fulfilled timely, and we've never had any issues. Their menu is massive, so I do recommend looking over the yelp photos and menu before using the website to order. Nearly everything on the menu can be made vegan. Vegan shrimp, pork, chicken, appetizers, soups, you name it. I may never be able to try everything I want to! The vegan beef tastes just like the real thing....like I've had to really take a look and make sure it's not. Idk how they do this vegan science but it's delicious. I do not miss animal meat. Peace out. Everybody can be a happy family. It's also convenient for whatever function you're on the way to. I really love Ding How! Check out their lunch specials, hovering around $10. Dinners are closer to $15.
