I reorder from here very often and I love the Grilled Salmon with rice and Mac salad. It's something I often crave because the fish is very fresh and not fishy and is crispy...plus they make the best rice and Mac salad! It's a really good deal for the portion size. I have had other items as well such as the BBQ beef, the BBQ chicken, short ribs and the chicken Katsu. Everything has been delicious! read more

Tim's hit the spot and is a great option for when you are hungry...or hangry! PROS: - Spacious dining area with lots of tables - some daily specials with discounted prices - pretty clean - yummy in the tummy - customization options, like 2 scoops of rice+1 scoop of mac salad OR 2 scoops of mac salad+1 scoop of rice - huge portions of protein (ie, my teriyaki chicken plate came with 2.5 large pieces of chicken vs another restaurant's 1 piece!) CONS: - prices are a little high - the wait for the food was oddly long considering how few customers were inside/not busy it looked - the meat was not cut; the chicken arrived as giant slabs (not a huge deal, but it's just a detail I noticed because other places usually cut it before serving) Overall the cons are small things compared to the pros. The food was so delicious that my group all ate beyond what our stomachs were capable of eating because we wanted to eat more! Tim's is a great place to invest a little more for a big plate, and you'd have leftovers to eat for another meal (or two). read more

I had the combo plate with chicken katsu and short rib. The chicken katsu is my friends favorite so I gave it a try. It was crispy with that "fall off the meat" (panko?) style "crust". Great flavor and freshness, if you like this style katsu (which I do). The short rib was juicy and well marinated. I really enjoyed it even as leftovers (because the portions are big!). I asked a lot of questions at the counter and the server was kind and helpful. Will come back with the family when we are in Davis. read more

Wonderful and quick service. Ordered thirty minutes before closing ans got my food within ten minutes. Half & Half BBQ Bowl - 9/10 I ordered the bowl with two rice, one mac, and with panko shrimp and chicken katsu. The chicken katsu was wonderfully crispy and tasted amazing, the katsu sauce only made it better with a nice sweet tang. The panko shrimp was beautifully fried and was also wonderful with the sauce. As for the rice, it was nice and fluffy, and the mac had a nice consistency and didn't have too much mayo. The stars are definitely the katsu and shrimp. read more

If you want cheap, but hearty food Tim's is the place. They have great teriyaki plates and their spam musubi is also good. They have specials and discounts on the weekdays, so look out for that when you order. They have plenty of indoor seating, and they have a very casual laidback atmosphere. read more

We came in around 8pm on a Saturday evening. They offer ramen, BBQ plates, burgers, BBQ bowls, musubi, and tacos. I ordered two tacos one fried fish which was my favorite and one chicken. We also ordered a tomkatsu ramen bowl and two BBQ plates mixed with katsu and spare ribs. They pack your to-go trays and the get your food out quickly. The meals come with white rice and macaroni and with any $30 purchase you receive a free insulated bag. They also have infused cucumber ands lemon water free of charge. Plenty of seating and two tap to order kiosks in case you are in a hurry. read more

I've been on a little bit of a Hawaiian BBQ kick this past year, so, the last time I was in Davis, I stopped by Tim's Hawaiian BBQ for dinner. I chose this place based on the crowd-- it was beyond packed with college students, which told me that I would probably get a good value for whatever price I paid for my meal. I also noticed the aroma from about half a block away, and it smelled incredible. I ordered the half and half combo plate with short ribs and chicken katsu, with sauce on the side, to go. It also came with one scoop of macaroni salad, and two scoops of rice. Even though there was a huge crowd, I didn't have to wait very long for my food to come out. Staff was friendly, and everything looked relatively clean. The portion sizes were very generous. There was enough for nearly three meals. I could have easily split this with someone, and still gotten full. The portion of ribs was particularly generous. The flavor was very good, but not my favorite of all time. I could see why it was popular with the college students, but also why it was on the cheaper side. I would definitely try this place out again next time I'm in Davis. read more

While in the area for work, my coworker and I decided to grab some lunch. And, as two local Hawaiians, we naturally found the Hawaiian spot. We just had to check it out and give it a rating. Upon walking in, we noticed the vibe was open concept, clean, and chic - not your typical Hawaiian ambiance (Surf, Beach and palm trees?), so we were a bit skeptical at first. But with all the great Yelp reviews, we decided to trust them, and boy, are we glad we did! The food arrived quickly, and the chicken was absolutely delicious - juicy and bursting with that classic Hawaiian BBQ flavor. The mac salad was outstanding, and the rice was perfectly sticky and tasty. My coworker indulged in the tonkotsu ramen and musubis, finishing the entire dish with a smile. We saved the musubis for later and will definitely be back for more. Overall, the food quality was top-notch, delivering authentic Hawaiian flavors that we, as locals, wholeheartedly approve of. "E mālama pono," which means "Take good care" in Hawaiian, certainly applies to the care they put into their dishes. If you're in Davis, this place is a must-visit. The portions were generous, too - I had enough leftovers for dinner and was happy to satisfy my cravings a few hours later. I totally recommend this place! Hope you like it! read more

Came on a Monday afternoon. A few groups eating inside and one group sitting in front. Small establishment but enough seats. Clean bathroom. Ordered the Chicken Katsu with 2 Macs + 1 Rice for about $18. Was pleasantly surprised with the portion when I opened my to-go container. Everything tasted so great while it was fresh. However, point off for the bbq sauce. It tasted like watered down bbq rib sauce. I'm glad I tried this place, but unless I'm in the area and craving Hawaiian bbq, it probably wouldn't be my first choice. read more

Came in for a quick bite to eat for lunch. It is located in the heart of UC Davis. It is a cute little spot. You go in and they have seating inside and a table outside if you wanted to chill. They have the menu clear and a lot of options. You can order at the counter or you can use their kiosk to place your order. They constantly had customers and a very relaxed vibe. We got the three musubi sample that came with spam, chicken, and Katsu and the three meat combo. It was all good and big portions. Everything was good. read more

Ordered and got it to-go. I think the food review might be slightly inaccurate since to-go food is usually less good than eating in restaurants. Can't comment on service either; will likely update when trying in person. I'm kind of teetering in between 3 to 4 stars but ultimately decided with 4. The first comment I want to make is that the food is expensive but the portions are really big. I think that you can definitely eat at least two meals out of a single order. Primarily, the reason for the 4 star consideration is because of how big the portions are. I got a mixed BBQ rice plate with the short rib, beef, and chicken katsu. It was definitely good food but could be better. I think it was missing some sauce and the food was SOOOO salty. The star of the show was definitely the short ribs and they had a nice balance of fat to meat ratio and went great with the rice. The beef was a little bit on the chewier side and the katsu was a bit dry. The sauce that they did provide was a sort of sweet and sour sauce but just didn't pair all that well with the meat. The sweetish-tangy contrasted quite poorly but this is a just personal taste so can't dock too much for it. Overall, I think it is good and I will try to go in-person. Recommend if you're a fan of the cuisine or in the area! Big portion, fair price. Decent food. read more

Date: Tuesday, August 6th, 2024 Party of: 2 Meal: Dinner Takeout How Ordered: via phone Time Picked Up: around 9:30pm *Loco Moco ($16.95) *Kalua Pork ($16.95): all Mac ($0.75) *BBQ Mix ($17.45) *Three Style Mix ($10.95) *Bag ($0.10) The hubby and I were on the way home and decided to grab Hawaiian BBQ takeaway for dinner. I initially was going to place the order online, but the site they use charges a fee, so I decided to call it in instead. I think it was less than $2, but every bit counts right? I haven't had Hawaiian BBQ in a while and places in the Bay where we are, the portions seem to be getting smaller. Shrinkflation anyone? The portions here were generous. The hubby really enjoyed the loco moco. My mixed plate was tasty as well. And the short ribs were a thicker slice, so nice and meaty. Great spot for Hawaiian plates. And they are open relatively late for a Tuesday. Til 10pm! REVIEW #3508 read more

I was already in Downtown Davis for an event at Molly Jasmine nearby and decided to try Tim's Hawaiian BBQ. I remember when this used to be Island Fish Grill, and before that, Fish's Wild. Two kiosks for self-ordering. Although they also have ramen and other items like fish & chips and tacos, I stuck with their Hawaiian fare. I got the Spam Musubi and the Curry Chicken Katsu Plate (2 scoops rice, 1 scoop mac). My main got the BBQ Mix plate (chicken BBQ, beef BBQ, shortribs) with mac and fries, and a Hawaiian Sun drink. For dine-in, they had cucumber water and water at the soda fountain. Lots of tables inside, very clean, and Bon Appétit streaming channel on TV. Food was ready without a long wait, text message when it was done. The spam musubi was good, and the macaroni salad was great! There was a huge portion of chicken katsu in that clamshell for the price, so much that I could only finish half. The curry sauce itself was interesting, not quite the flavor profile I expected to be more like Japanese curry, but still good. I wonder if their actual Katsu sauce would be a better choice for next time. Open late-ish, located next to T%. Since it was near closing time, the gal did let us know when the kitchen would be closing, and the last call for any food orders. read more

Love Tim's hawaiian! We decided to check out this spot and it has been a regular spot to go back to for lunch or dinner. My favorite is their bbq mix plate with chicken, beef, and shortrib but their half and half combo is a great way to pick and choose your favorites. I also liked their kalua pork and shrimp but my favorites are their beef and chicken. I love the flavor of the beef and it doesn't have too much fat. I would note, however, that their food is on the saltier side. A base of all veggies costs an extra 75 cents. I also really like their mac salad as it has a great balance in flavor and creaminess and pairs perfectly with their proteins. I also like that you can order at the kiosk. There is plenty of seating inside too which is great. Would recommend! read more

This is my first time into Tim's, and it's really delicious! We came at lunch in a Tuesday and it's really dead in here, which it should not be. The portions are generous, the food is delicious, everything is clean and bright, and the woman working the counter is exceptionally kind. Food came out fresh, hot and fast. This would be an easy 5 star if there were more sustainable choices. We dined in, but our food was still served in a hard plastic to-go container with a disposable cup and plastic cutlery. That is just so much waste that could be eliminated. Will defo come back in a few weeks and see if anything has changed or if that is temporary. read more

Tim's is a great spot for Hawaiian in Davis! I love their combos (BBQ Mix - which includes BBQ Short Ribs, BBQ Beef and BBQ Chicken, BBQ Mix w/ Chicken Katsu replacing one of the primary BBQ Mix items). I also tried their Musubi Trio recently! I love a classic spam musubi. It was delicious! The BBQ Chicken musubi was definitely different, and I need to try it again to make sure I like it. The Katsu musubi is definitely great if you're craving Katsu, but definitely a different taste for a musubi. Their establishment is very clean and organized. I really appreciate a restaurant that keeps things spotless, and Tim's prioritizes this. You can order at the counter or at a self service iPad. read more

Tim's has been the go to Hawaiian BBQ spot in Davis for years. Any time I'm in the mood for BBQ chicken, chicken katsu, or salmon I'll come here. Their Musubi is decent too, and they also have things like poke and ramen but I've never tried them. Quick, tasty, and affordable grub that is reasonably healthy if you get the veg instead of rice/Mac salad. read more

Giving this place a five star just because some gave them a 1 star cause of her dog. Bringing your pet to a public restaurant and expecting full service is not only inconsiderate, it's gross like some people don't want your dog hair near their food. Oktybye! read more

Similar to L&L, good portion size. Got their combo plater. Short ribs, beef, and katsu. Filled menuo for the whole day

The spam musubis were yummy but I was not happy with the rest of my order, I ordered the katsu bowl w no veggies all rice and add Mac salad but instead it came with veggies and Mac salad no rice and i called to see if i could get a refund because i was already almost home to Fairfield and I couldn't turn around and she said she would put a refund in for me and I thought that I would be done but come next couple of days no refund, I call again just to make sure and I'm pretty sure it's the same girl that answered and she was really rude read more

The food was good, not amazing, but not bad. The portions are massive and the flavor is definitely there. The only reason why I have a 4 star was because the flavor wasn't exactly to die for, it can get a bit overwhelming as the food is very fatty. read more

The other night we were out and about in Davis looking for a spot to get dinner for a group of 9. Several spots estimated wait times at 1-2 hours. That was just too long, so I checked Yelp and saw that Tim's has a 5-star rating and was nearby, so what the heck? Let's give it a try! I ordered the BBQ Combo with Katsu, it included short ribs, bbq beef, and chicken katsu, alongside steamed rice and macaroni salad. It was quite tasty, and the portion size was absolutely just right. My wife and kids each had the BBQ Pork Bowl, which was a bowl of steamed rice covered with mixed, fresh vegetables and some over-the-top, screamin' delicious bbq pork! The other adults in the group ordered combo plates, similar to mine. They were all equally happy with the quality, quantity, and taste of the food. Prices were good and the food was better than average, in fact it was very, very good! Thus, I'm keeping with the crowd and rating Tim's 5-Stars! read more

Menu is similar to L & L, and food is a little more flavorful. I usually get the short ribs combo.

- Mediocre food. - Dry chicken katsu. - Chicken musubi tasted old. - Rude service which is funny given the self-serve kiosk. There was two girls in the front: one appeared lost and confused which made me think that she is new. However, the other girl in a white top and claw clip was a major b- --you can fill in the other letters :)). Ridiculous attitude, expressions, and mannerisms (which she clearly lacks). But they're Davis kids so what do you expect--can't say that I'm surprised. I wouldn't come again. read more

Came here on a Saturday night for dinner around 6:30 PM. It was easy to order with the screens but you can also order with the cashier. The store is wide and spacious. They accommodated a huge college sports team after we sat down. We ordered two entrées for three people, the chicken katsu and the BBQ beef. The chicken was thinner than L&L's but the flavor and texture was fine. However, the BBQ beef was way too salty. We needed three bites of rice for every piece of meat. It was also kind of dry. I enjoyed the cabbage and the macaroni salad on the side. We felt satisfied with two plates for the three of us. It allowed us to snack on other things. The staff was friendly. The cleanliness on the tables wasn't the best. With all the food options in Davis, I don't think I'd come here again. Props to them for having a variety of things on their menu though! read more
