Two tacos (chicken and fried fish)
    Mia M.

We came in around 8pm on a Saturday evening. They offer ramen, BBQ plates, burgers, BBQ bowls, musubi, and tacos. I ordered two tacos one fried fish which was my favorite and one chicken. We also ordered a tomkatsu ramen bowl and two BBQ plates mixed with katsu and spare ribs. They pack your to-go trays and the get your food out quickly. The meals come with white rice and macaroni and with any $30 purchase you receive a free insulated bag. They also have infused cucumber ands lemon water free of charge. Plenty of seating and two tap to order kiosks in case you are in a hurry.

    Half & Half BBQ Combo

Wonderful and quick service. Ordered thirty minutes before closing ans got my food within ten minutes. Half & Half BBQ Bowl - 9/10 I ordered the bowl with two rice, one mac, and with panko shrimp and chicken katsu. The chicken katsu was wonderfully crispy and tasted amazing, the katsu sauce only made it better with a nice sweet tang. The panko shrimp was beautifully fried and was also wonderful with the sauce. As for the rice, it was nice and fluffy, and the mac had a nice consistency and didn't have too much mayo. The stars are definitely the katsu and shrimp.

Half and half combo plate with short ribs and katsu and sauce (to go, in my lap in my car)

I've been on a little bit of a Hawaiian BBQ kick this past year, so, the last time I was in Davis, I stopped by Tim's Hawaiian BBQ for dinner. I chose this place based on the crowd-- it was beyond packed with college students, which told me that I would probably get a good value for whatever price I paid for my meal. I also noticed the aroma from about half a block away, and it smelled incredible. I ordered the half and half combo plate with short ribs and chicken katsu, with sauce on the side, to go. It also came with one scoop of macaroni salad, and two scoops of rice. Even though there was a huge crowd, I didn't have to wait very long for my food to come out. Staff was friendly, and everything looked relatively clean. The portion sizes were very generous. There was enough for nearly three meals. I could have easily split this with someone, and still gotten full. The portion of ribs was particularly generous. The flavor was very good, but not my favorite of all time. I could see why it was popular with the college students, but also why it was on the cheaper side. I would definitely try this place out again next time I'm in Davis.

    Tonkotsu ramen and musubis

While in the area for work, my coworker and I decided to grab some lunch. And, as two local Hawaiians, we naturally found the Hawaiian spot. We just had to check it out and give it a rating. Upon walking in, we noticed the vibe was open concept, clean, and chic - not your typical Hawaiian ambiance (Surf, Beach and palm trees?), so we were a bit skeptical at first. But with all the great Yelp reviews, we decided to trust them, and boy, are we glad we did! The food arrived quickly, and the chicken was absolutely delicious - juicy and bursting with that classic Hawaiian BBQ flavor. The mac salad was outstanding, and the rice was perfectly sticky and tasty. My coworker indulged in the tonkotsu ramen and musubis, finishing the entire dish with a smile. We saved the musubis for later and will definitely be back for more. Overall, the food quality was top-notch, delivering authentic Hawaiian flavors that we, as locals, wholeheartedly approve of. "E mālama pono," which means "Take good care" in Hawaiian, certainly applies to the care they put into their dishes. If you're in Davis, this place is a must-visit. The portions were generous, too - I had enough leftovers for dinner and was happy to satisfy my cravings a few hours later. I totally recommend this place! Hope you like it!

    Musubi Sample. Chicken, Spam, Katsu

Came in for a quick bite to eat for lunch. It is located in the heart of UC Davis. It is a cute little spot. You go in and they have seating inside and a table outside if you wanted to chill. They have the menu clear and a lot of options. You can order at the counter or you can use their kiosk to place your order. They constantly had customers and a very relaxed vibe. We got the three musubi sample that came with spam, chicken, and Katsu and the three meat combo. It was all good and big portions. Everything was good.

I love Hawaiian food and Tim's Hawaiian BBQ fulfills my need! With plenty of options available from the BBQ plates to the BBQ Bowls, and even hamburgers, there's something for the whole family. The portions are so generous, and the prices are very reasonable. My favorite is the BBQ Mix Plate. I love the short ribs and the chicken. The plate portions are pretty big and can be shared. Great family place and the UC Davis students love it here!! Come in and try Tim's!! With great food and friendly staff, you won't be disappointed!

    Loco Moco ($16.95)

Date: Tuesday, August 6th, 2024 Party of: 2 Meal: Dinner Takeout How Ordered: via phone Time Picked Up: around 9:30pm *Loco Moco ($16.95) *Kalua Pork ($16.95): all Mac ($0.75) *BBQ Mix ($17.45) *Three Style Mix ($10.95) *Bag ($0.10) The hubby and I were on the way home and decided to grab Hawaiian BBQ takeaway for dinner. I initially was going to place the order online, but the site they use charges a fee, so I decided to call it in instead. I think it was less than $2, but every bit counts right? I haven't had Hawaiian BBQ in a while and places in the Bay where we are, the portions seem to be getting smaller. Shrinkflation anyone? The portions here were generous. The hubby really enjoyed the loco moco. My mixed plate was tasty as well. And the short ribs were a thicker slice, so nice and meaty. Great spot for Hawaiian plates. And they are open relatively late for a Tuesday. Til 10pm! REVIEW #3508

Chicken Katsu with 2 Mac + 1 Rice side. Approximately $18.

Came on a Monday afternoon. A few groups eating inside and one group sitting in front. Small establishment but enough seats. Clean bathroom. Ordered the Chicken Katsu with 2 Macs + 1 Rice for about $18. Was pleasantly surprised with the portion when I opened my to-go container. Everything tasted so great while it was fresh. However, point off for the bbq sauce. It tasted like watered down bbq rib sauce. I'm glad I tried this place, but unless I'm in the area and craving Hawaiian bbq, it probably wouldn't be my first choice.

I was already in Downtown Davis for an event at Molly Jasmine nearby and decided to try Tim's Hawaiian BBQ. I remember when this used to be Island Fish Grill, and before that, Fish's Wild. Two kiosks for self-ordering. Although they also have ramen and other items like fish & chips and tacos, I stuck with their Hawaiian fare. I got the Spam Musubi and the Curry Chicken Katsu Plate (2 scoops rice, 1 scoop mac). My main got the BBQ Mix plate (chicken BBQ, beef BBQ, shortribs) with mac and fries, and a Hawaiian Sun drink. For dine-in, they had cucumber water and water at the soda fountain. Lots of tables inside, very clean, and Bon Appétit streaming channel on TV. Food was ready without a long wait, text message when it was done. The spam musubi was good, and the macaroni salad was great! There was a huge portion of chicken katsu in that clamshell for the price, so much that I could only finish half. The curry sauce itself was interesting, not quite the flavor profile I expected to be more like Japanese curry, but still good. I wonder if their actual Katsu sauce would be a better choice for next time. Open late-ish, located next to T%. Since it was near closing time, the gal did let us know when the kitchen would be closing, and the last call for any food orders.

Incredible portion size, fresh and ready within 10 minutes of ordering. Everything tasted great - chicken katsu, spam musubi and fried shrimp are favorites!

    Tuesday chicken special
    Max N.

This is my first time into Tim's, and it's really delicious! We came at lunch in a Tuesday and it's really dead in here, which it should not be. The portions are generous, the food is delicious, everything is clean and bright, and the woman working the counter is exceptionally kind. Food came out fresh, hot and fast. This would be an easy 5 star if there were more sustainable choices. We dined in, but our food was still served in a hard plastic to-go container with a disposable cup and plastic cutlery. That is just so much waste that could be eliminated. Will defo come back in a few weeks and see if anything has changed or if that is temporary.

Meh. Beef is too salty. Chicken katsu didn't have much flavor and the fish was more panko than protein.

The dish itself was just OK, it was a bit too sweet, I guess from the coconut milk. The portion size was good, I'll get an additional meal from the leftovers. My friend had the Pad Kee Mow and she graded it "A". Perhaps I made the wrong choice or am more finicky about my food. After eating the waiter came by holding a tablet saying he could take payment. He didn't show us the totals, just said we could give him our credit cards. We did so and we each asked for a printed receipt. When I got my receipt I saw there were two totals, one for cash and the other for credit (worked out to be a 3% fee.) That was never mentioned, neither by the waiter nor by the menu. I usually pay by cash but when the waiter said he'd take our cards, I assumed that was the preferred payment method.

I went from a thin top to a medium weight sweater. We arrived in Davis I grabbed my jacket to pair with my sweater. Today was a day spent exploring Davis to see the California Conference for the Advancement of Ceramic Arts (CCACA). What a great Conference. We come each year for this Conference and explore Davis every time we are here. After exploring the first building of the show it was coming on time to eat. We looked around the current shopping center and my husband didn't see anything he was craving. He said we'll go more into town and look for a noodle place. He said he remembered one from our last visit, down one of the alleys. Walking up the street we saw a couple of advertisements. A sandwich board was on the sidewalk for Davis Noodle CIty, the exact place we were looking for. The little Noodle Shop in the alley. We weaved through the other businesses, past the dumpling restaurant, past the outdoor seating and to the front door of the Davis Noodle City Restaurant. The out door seating looked really welcoming, but it was chilly out so we opted for eating inside with the other table that was occupied. There were 3 parties eating outside when we arrived. When we walked inside we were greeted and told to take any table. We choose a table in the corner. The menus were under the glass table top, keeping it clean and easy to read. Each place setting had its own copy of the menu. After looking at the menu, remembering what was offered on the sandwich board in front, and cross referencing it with Yelp Reviews we started ordering. We opted for the Five Spice Beef Noodles, and I asked if that was a good option and she said it was their top seller. The Yelp Reviews were only ok for that dish, but I took our chances. The second dish we ordered was the Dan Dan Noodles She tried to upscale us to the one with vegetables, but that dish was a cold dish so we when for the standard Dan Dan Noodles. Both dishes came out quickly. The Dan Dan noodles were not spicy as I anticipated, which was good, I wasn't really looking for spicy. I liked the flavor and realized that if you mixed it up there is a sauce on the bottom that is really tasty. Dan Dan Noodles ($8.25 a steal) is a solid dish and I highly reccomend it. It's a great bowlful of noodles. If you are hopping for other ingredients you are out of luck, it's 100% noodles with a sprinkling of peanuts on top and a sauce on the bottom. The Five Spice Beef Noodle Soup ($12.75)was as described in the reviews. It comes with American Broccoli and carrots. The beef is so good it melts in your mouth. The broth is minimal and lacked flavor. I'd think that it's advertised as Five Spice that it would have more flavor. I don't reccomend it if you are looking for a strong flavor. If you are looking for great meat, that melts in your mouth, but is also a little fatty then you have the perfect dish. Both dishes came with fresh noodles, none of those dried and rehydrated noodles that some places serve. The noodles on both dishes were different and pleasant. I highly reccomend their fresh noodles. Customer service was good. She came to check up on us and was pleasant. Parking is street parking. And they have a bathroom on site that is clean and well stocked.

Unfortunately, this place has both bad service and food is not great. 2 stars for the price. Food (3/10) - I don't know how to describe it outside of the fact that it's just bland. I got the "Marco Polo noodles" which is just Chinese jia jiang mien. Let's start with the positives. I liked the noodle texture; it had a nice spring and were thick for a decent chew. Now, onto the bad. You could just tell that the noodles would be bland just by a look and smell. The smell of the bowl wasn't one of fragrant stir-fried pork but it actually smelled like starchy water. The sauce was super watery and had no flavor and I don't think there was even ground pork in the noodles. From what I could tell, it was some diced up mushroom and then black bean paste, without black bean flavor might I add. I had to add a GENEROUS amount of soy sauce and chili oil to make it taste decent. Honestly, I'd say it's pretty hard to mess up this dish as a whole and there's a lot of leeway on flavor but I have not tasted something that bland in a while. On the opposite end of the spectrum, we have the thai tea. This thing was so sweet that it was borderline undrinkable. I had to wait for the ice to melt in the drink before it was bearable and even then, it still left this residual sticky taste in my mouth. Also it's 4 dollars for canned thai tea; she grabbed it out the fridge. The only sort of saving grace of this restaurant is that it's relatively cheap. $12.50 for a good portion of noodles might convince me to go back(?) VERY BIG maybe though. I might want to try their soup noodles. Service (5/10) - It didn't really seem like she wanted me to be there. She kind of just sat behind the counter on her phone with an Airpod in the whole time. She was just on her phone the whole time and overall inattentive. When she was, she was just asking if I was ready to order (twice in the span of under 3-ish minutes). Ambiance (6/10) - Eh. It was just kinda weird. The lighting was dingy. Also didn't like how they left dirty tables around (clearly looked like they had been there for a while). Overall, probably wouldn't visit again. Might give it a second chance but food for price was pretty good. Unfortunately, bad food for good price is a no-go for me.
