Spicy Tan-Tan Ramen with extra egg
    Ronni J.

Absolutely one of the best Japanese dining experiences I've had in Sacramento area. The service was top-tier from start to finish! Attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely warm without being overbearing. You can tell they truly care about the guest experience. Honestly reminds me of being back in Japan. The food? Incredible. Fresh, beautifully presented, and full of authentic flavor. It honestly transported me back to Japan. Every bite tasted intentional and high quality. This is easily some of the best Japanese food I've had outside of Japan. Tan-Tan noddles were good. Needed to be a bit more thicker soup base for that authentic Japanese feel, but the flavor was spot on. The Tomatsu Ramen was delicious and very good and if you wanna add a little extra, try asking for the spicy miso paste to add to the broth. The Wagyu was incredible although I would like a thicker cut of meat. It was still amazing for the price. The rice was a 10 out of 10 and the side soup was very good also. We also enjoyed a couple of drinks and they were delicious. Try the unfiltered sake and the apricot wine. Highly recommend if you're looking for an authentic experience with elevated service.

On the way back from trip, stop by Davis for dinner and found this place! it was amazing experience! We tried their pasta and ramen with kabocha fries as an appetizer. I personally loved their pasta, how they cook their noodle, al dante! It was my favorite! My partner had their spicy ramen (sorry, couldn't take a picture) and he enjoyed the flavor! Server at the counter was so informative and polite. He explained the menu and recommended some dishes for us as it was our first time. Thank you! Overall, restaurant appeared unique (decor was amazing), cleaned, organized, and they were pretty full of people as it was the weekend. I will definitely comeback back for their food one day!

Ikezo Peach Jelly Sake Shot: my partner absolutely loved this, highly recommend Spicy Tantan Ramen: delightful, if you are a spice lover, this has just the right kick and great flavor Tonkotsu Ramen: classic and yummy staple Appetizer - Fried oysters: the crunch of a fried food on the outside, and the juiciness of a raw oyster on the inside. Side salad was actually lightly dressed and this little detail goes a long way First time back since they were Yakitori Yuchan, and they've changed significantly, but overall in good ways. Menu: lots of items from pre-covid gone, now they have a core menu with fewer items but offer various rotating special dishes that are inventive and I'd definitely come back to try. Now, you order and pay first before being seated, which makes things faster. Food came out quickly, and service was very proactive. Ambiance was quiet and romantics, phenomenal date night spot. I will miss the bar seating, the skewers, and the black garlic ramen, but overall the change has been better business wise and food is still absolutely delicious.

The interior design of the restaurant is super nice. It has a dark atmosphere and it's very well maintained. However, the food was a little bit of a let down. The gyoza was fine, but the ramen I had was slightly lacking in flavor. The servers were super kind and accommodating.

Oh My GOODNESS!!!! SO YUMMY!!!!!! Wow the food is so flavorful. I'm not really a curry fan, but I do really like karage, so I tried the chicken karage curry platter. AND I KILLED IT! The karage was cooked sooo well. Good crispy outer layer with slight juicy inside mmmm. And the curry tasted nice and rich, with a slight aftertaste of some sort of spice (I'm not well-versed in curry my bad). And the cabbage with dressing side was super yummy tangy refreshing. And my friend's pork tonkotsu ramen!! That broth is exactly how I like my tonkotsu... it was really savory and very garlicky. And the meat was good quality, cooked nicely too. I definitely want to come back and try the spicy tantan ramen... The service itself is quite interesting. You walk in and immediately get in line to order with menus to look at on the counter. Along the counter are signs showing special dishes they are offering at the moment, which I assume are rotated out and changed occasionally. My chicken karage curry was a special. It's a liiiiittle sneaky though because the special dishes don't have prices listed next to them (so my plate was more expensive than I expected) but to be fair I could've asked the server LOL. Also, the price does show up on the screen before you pay anyways. Just caught me off guard! I do like this layout though. You can order your food first without having to wait for a server to come around. And once we ordered then were seated, the food came out at a decently quick speed. The overall vibe of the restaurant is a dark, fast-paced place, but the booths are very secluded and cozy. And there was a bowl of peppermints on the way out which I will always happily enjoy!

This place was great. Was craving some ramen and this spot was recommended by a friend. I agree to an extent with some of the reviews- price/amount of food provided. However, the ramen was excellent. The place is small inside but no issues getting a table. It appears they stay busy. I had the spicy tan-tan ramen with some extra spice on the side. The servers were kind, and I will be back.

    Shoyu Ramen

I've visited this place several times before and usually had an okay experience, but this time we came specifically for the ramen and left disappointed. Since they don't offer Yakitori anymore, we started with the fried calamari (ika geso), which was actually the highlight of the meal. It was light, crisp, and not greasy at all -- well done. For ramen, we ordered one soy-sauce-based (shoyu) ramen and one pork-bone broth (tonkotsu) ramen. Unfortunately, both broths lacked depth and richness. There wasn't that layered, savory umami you expect from a good ramen shop, where you can tell multiple ingredients have been simmered together to build flavor. The noodles were just average and not particularly memorable. They present themselves kind of like a student-area "shokudo" -- in Japan, that usually means a casual, cafeteria-style place where you can get simple, home-style food at reasonable prices. With that in mind, I expected comforting food and more budget-friendly pricing. Instead, the prices felt on the higher side for what you get, both in terms of taste and overall experience. The service model is also a bit frustrating. You pay upfront at the counter and are prompted to tip before you've received any service. Aside from someone bringing the food to the table, there really wasn't any additional service, which makes the tipping setup feel awkward. I might stop by again just for small dishes like the fried calamari, but I wouldn't come back specifically for the ramen.

After spending all day packing and cleaning, I was really craving some soup to rehydrate. I had heard great things about Yuchan Shokudo from a few friends and knew I had to try it out before leaving Davis for the summer. I'm glad the service is amazing because I would've been a bit overwhelmed by the amount of menu options displayed up front. Right when I walked through the door, I was immediately greeted and given a great walkthrough of the menus and specials. The man working at the front was so kind! He paused his meal to get my order and every single party walking through the door afterwards. It's such a good sign too that they have regulars and he was really friendly and upbeat with everyone. I really appreciated how he also took the time to remember my name and checked in with me. Definitely the best service I've had in a long time! I tried pork katsu appetizer for the first time because it was one of their specials. It tasted great and bigger than I was expecting, which is always a nice surprise. The tonkotsu ramen was delicious as well! It hit the spot and was so filling. I also really like how their pepper paste comes on the side so you can adjust the level of spiciness. Overall, this is the best Japanese restaurant in Davis and perhaps even my new fave spot in general. I can see myself coming back again, as it was definitely worth the hassle for downtown parking.

Stopped by for a late lunch during a Davis day trip to meet friends at UCD! We got the tonkotsu ramen and katsu donburi. The ramen was pretty good, but the broth is a bit lacking in flavor in my opinion. The donburi had more flavor and the rice definitely soaked up all the flavor which was delicious! The staff was also so nice and interior is really cool. Just be sure to order before you sit down!

Best ramen in Davis. Tan-Tan Ramen.

Easily the best food in Davis, CA. Please do yourself a favor and go to one of their yakitori nights. No shortcuts are taken here, they honor craftsmanship above anything else. I also think they have the best ramen in yolo county. Katsu curry, chicken ramen or mentaiko bowl for the spicy addicts. They never miss.

Wow. Excellent food, service, and '80s music (at least the night we were here!). First, the food. I love ramen. But I'm often disappointed by over-hyped, lackluster offerings. This wasn't the case at Yuchan Shokudo. Their tonkatsu broth was both deeply flavorful and balanced. My partner praised the double spicy tuna donburi for its taste and genuine heat. We also thoroughly enjoyed the complexity and consistency of the mentai pasta special. The staff here were out of the world--friendly, professional, and genuine. The host patiently answered our questions about the menu and steered us to the excellent choices above. We were just passing through and lucked out on finding this place. If we lived nearby, I suspect we'd be regulars. Thanks to the whole Yuchan Shokudo team for a satisfying meal.

The place was pretty busy, which wasn't surprising for a Saturday night around 8 PM. My friend and I waited about 20-25 minutes for a table. They have an interesting system where you order your food before getting seated, and then you wait for a table to open up before they officially seat you. It's a bit different, but it worked out fine. When ordering, the cashier was a bit snarky when I asked some clarifying questions about my order, which wasn't the best experience (hence why I deducted a star). That said, the rest of the staff had a much more positive and welcoming energy, which definitely helped balance things out. I ordered the chicken katsu with curry, and it had a really nice balance of flavors. The portion sizes were great, and I liked that there was enough curry to cover both the chicken and rice. The only thing I would have liked to see is some vegetables to add a bit of freshness and lighten up the dish since it was pretty heavy. The servers who brought out our food and refilled our drinks were super nice and hospitable. At one point, my friend asked for a little more rice to go with his chicken, and they actually brought him a full cup. He felt bad for not being able to finish it, but the server was really sweet and even offered to bring out more chicken at no extra cost, which was such a nice gesture. Overall, the food was solid, and most of the staff were really kind and accommodating. I'd come back, but hopefully, the ordering experience is a little better next time!

I was taken aback by one of the staff members. I asked if the curry was made from scratch and the response was "If it was curry from scratch, then we would be a curry restaurant." It was uncalled for. Then please don't make your first option for donburi a curry donburi. Seemed like it was one of the owners responding. The other staff were very nice. Overall, food was actually pretty good. Chicken kaarage was moist and crispy 10/10. Shoyu ramen was flavorful 9/10. I wish there was more.

A few dishes worth calling out specifically: the Tea Leaf Salad, Sesame Chicken, Coconut Rice, and the Pad Thai. Haven't been able to get to anything else on return trips. One note if you're a heat seeker -- the Pad Thai doesn't get very spicy, even when requested. I like extreme heat, so factor that in accordingly. Most people will find it perfectly seasoned. On my last visit I tried the black rice pudding with ice cream. Don't skip it if dessert is on your radar. Dogs are welcome on the patio, which is a great perk. I went from a thin top to a medium weight sweater. We arrived in Davis I grabbed my jacket to pair with my sweater. Today was a day spent exploring Davis to see the California Conference for the Advancement of Ceramic Arts (CCACA). What a great Conference. We come each year for this Conference and explore Davis every time we are here. After exploring the first building of the show it was coming on time to eat. We looked around the current shopping center and my husband didn't see anything he was craving. He said we'll go more into town and look for a noodle place. He said he remembered one from our last visit, down one of the alleys. Walking up the street we saw a couple of advertisements. A sandwich board was on the sidewalk for Davis Noodle CIty, the exact place we were looking for. The little Noodle Shop in the alley. We weaved through the other businesses, past the dumpling restaurant, past the outdoor seating and to the front door of the Davis Noodle City Restaurant. The out door seating looked really welcoming, but it was chilly out so we opted for eating inside with the other table that was occupied. There were 3 parties eating outside when we arrived. When we walked inside we were greeted and told to take any table. We choose a table in the corner. The menus were under the glass table top, keeping it clean and easy to read. Each place setting had its own copy of the menu. After looking at the menu, remembering what was offered on the sandwich board in front, and cross referencing it with Yelp Reviews we started ordering. We opted for the Five Spice Beef Noodles, and I asked if that was a good option and she said it was their top seller. The Yelp Reviews were only ok for that dish, but I took our chances. The second dish we ordered was the Dan Dan Noodles She tried to upscale us to the one with vegetables, but that dish was a cold dish so we when for the standard Dan Dan Noodles. Both dishes came out quickly. The Dan Dan noodles were not spicy as I anticipated, which was good, I wasn't really looking for spicy. I liked the flavor and realized that if you mixed it up there is a sauce on the bottom that is really tasty. Dan Dan Noodles ($8.25 a steal) is a solid dish and I highly reccomend it. It's a great bowlful of noodles. If you are hopping for other ingredients you are out of luck, it's 100% noodles with a sprinkling of peanuts on top and a sauce on the bottom. The Five Spice Beef Noodle Soup ($12.75)was as described in the reviews. It comes with American Broccoli and carrots. The beef is so good it melts in your mouth. The broth is minimal and lacked flavor. I'd think that it's advertised as Five Spice that it would have more flavor. I don't reccomend it if you are looking for a strong flavor. If you are looking for great meat, that melts in your mouth, but is also a little fatty then you have the perfect dish. Both dishes came with fresh noodles, none of those dried and rehydrated noodles that some places serve. The noodles on both dishes were different and pleasant. I highly reccomend their fresh noodles. Customer service was good. She came to check up on us and was pleasant. Parking is street parking. And they have a bathroom on site that is clean and well stocked.

Unfortunately, this place has both bad service and food is not great. 2 stars for the price. Food (3/10) - I don't know how to describe it outside of the fact that it's just bland. I got the "Marco Polo noodles" which is just Chinese jia jiang mien. Let's start with the positives. I liked the noodle texture; it had a nice spring and were thick for a decent chew. Now, onto the bad. You could just tell that the noodles would be bland just by a look and smell. The smell of the bowl wasn't one of fragrant stir-fried pork but it actually smelled like starchy water. The sauce was super watery and had no flavor and I don't think there was even ground pork in the noodles. From what I could tell, it was some diced up mushroom and then black bean paste, without black bean flavor might I add. I had to add a GENEROUS amount of soy sauce and chili oil to make it taste decent. Honestly, I'd say it's pretty hard to mess up this dish as a whole and there's a lot of leeway on flavor but I have not tasted something that bland in a while. On the opposite end of the spectrum, we have the thai tea. This thing was so sweet that it was borderline undrinkable. I had to wait for the ice to melt in the drink before it was bearable and even then, it still left this residual sticky taste in my mouth. Also it's 4 dollars for canned thai tea; she grabbed it out the fridge. The only sort of saving grace of this restaurant is that it's relatively cheap. $12.50 for a good portion of noodles might convince me to go back(?) VERY BIG maybe though. I might want to try their soup noodles. Service (5/10) - It didn't really seem like she wanted me to be there. She kind of just sat behind the counter on her phone with an Airpod in the whole time. She was just on her phone the whole time and overall inattentive. When she was, she was just asking if I was ready to order (twice in the span of under 3-ish minutes). Ambiance (6/10) - Eh. It was just kinda weird. The lighting was dingy. Also didn't like how they left dirty tables around (clearly looked like they had been there for a while). Overall, probably wouldn't visit again. Might give it a second chance but food for price was pretty good. Unfortunately, bad food for good price is a no-go for me.

The noodles were cooked perfectly springy, fresh, and satisfying and the toppings were generous and high quality. We also ordered the chicken pancakes, and they were such a pleasant surprise! Crispy on the outside, tender inside, and packed with flavor. They paired beautifully with the ramen and made the meal feel complete. The customer service was friendly and welcoming throughout. Our food came out fast (which is impressive on a busy Saturday), and the staff was attentive without hovering. Everything felt smooth and efficient. Overall, the vibe is cozy, comforting, and inviting perfect for: * A casual lunch * A ramen date * Catching up with friends * Or just treating yourself Between the quick seating, thoughtful service, diverse options, and that soul-warming broth, Ramen House Tenjin absolutely delivers. Sacramento foodies this one deserves a spot on your list. 10/10. I'll definitely be back for that broth.

The pancake, again, had a very distinct flavor that was not of my liking; I barely ate it. The ramen had a more tomato flavor than a miso/spicy flavor; did not like the broth but ate the vegetables. Waiter was good. But the food came out at different times. So I almost finished my food before one of my other guests.

We went around 5 PM on a Tuesday, and it was nice and quiet, so we were seated right away. We started with the teppanji and then ordered the katsu curry and karaage curry. The curry was rich, flavorful, and honestly reminded us of our trip to Japan. Portions were generous, and I liked that you can customize with extra meat, veggies, or even add an egg. The real standout, though, was the teppanji chicken--it was so good that we'd come back just for that alone. Overall, great food, good service, and a clean space. Definitely a spot we'll be returning to!

Food: 3.5-4.0 | Service: 4.95 | Ambiance: 3.75…read more CURRY HYUGA BURLINGAME was a long time in waiting to try. Japanese Curry, a sweet and mild curry, is very different from Indian and Chinese/Thai curry. Usually served w/crispy Tonkatsu and a cabbage salad, it can be hard to find. Finding good Japanese curry can be just as difficult. CHB satisfies on the Japanese curry savoriness front. While it's nothing fancy (that extends to their decor), it is housemade and delicious. Waitstaff was brisk and courteous. Was advised to not order more than what I had...he was right. Had leftovers to take home! Ordered the signature ORIGINAL KATSU CURRY w/pork. Other option is chicken. Steamed rice in a Japanese eatery is always top notch, always perfect and generous in portion here. The Tonkatsu was crispy but a tad short of tender, but tasty enough to dip in the accompanying Japanese curry sauce. I might ask for the curry sauce on the side next time. Cabbage salad, traditionally a huge portion was a small offering cushioning the Tonkatsu. Accompanied by a small scoop of house made potato salad and pickled veggies. The hot Tonkatsu, steamed rice and Japanese curry sauce was a great combo for me, a very filling and satisfying meal! CH offers a tabletop varied selection of chili peppers: Pequin, Wiri Wiri, Ichimi, Jalapẽno, Orange Habanero. I did a light sprinkling of the traditional Japanese Ichimi pepper to add a touch of heat and that was fine. Signature ORIGINAL KATSU CURRY was a great start to this menu tasting. I'll be back to try their DOUBLE MENCHI CURRY, KARAAGE CURRY, ASSORTED VEGGIE CURRY, KATSU CURRY UDON. CURRY HYUGA BURLINGAME is also one of the few places that has Omurice on its menu. A Japanese omelet w/rice or noodles inside. Their version is HAYASHI OM-RICE. I will definitely be back to try this! See you there!

Automatically taking in the ambience of the restaurant, it felt really clean and has a nice dim light that makes the dining experience feel private. The service was very attentive and they'll do a temperature check on how the food is with you after you receive your meal and they were all genuinely very friendly. 10/10 for the service, no doubt. For food, we ordered their "Fukumi Ramen" and their chicken karaage . Chicken karaage came out first and was freshly fried. The coating was amazingly light and the chicken itself was flavorful. It comes served with a lemon wedge and tiny pieces of salad and the dressing in the salad was delicious! For the Fukumi Ramen bowl itself, the initial taste of the broth was flavorful and the black garlic oil was a nice touch. You'll immediately notice how thickkkk their chasu slices are and I think the free order of extra noodles is a nice plus. However, the thin noodles served with the Fukumi Ramen bowl seemed like a lighter color than I normally see at ramen places and the noodles were overcooked so I feel like it obscured the overall taste of the ramen itself since ramen noodles make up so much of the bite. Even though the extra noodles were free and a nice complimentary addition, I feel like I could tell why because the ramen noodles lacked the quality the rest of the bowl had. The tamago egg was decent and I was surprised because it looked like a plain white boiled egg rather than the traditional brown seasoned egg you get in ramen. Overall, I think Fukumi Ramen can do the job of satisfying a cold rainy day, and I think with their wide variety of ramen options, you'll definitely have to try and find one that might hit for you! Portions are huge here too so it might take a couple visits to try more options!

Can't comment on service either; will likely update when trying in person. I'm kind of teetering in between 3 to 4 stars but ultimately decided with 4. The first comment I want to make is that the food is expensive but the portions are really big. I think that you can definitely eat at least two meals out of a single order. Primarily, the reason for the 4 star consideration is because of how big the portions are. I got a mixed BBQ rice plate with the short rib, beef, and chicken katsu. It was definitely good food but could be better. I think it was missing some sauce and the food was SOOOO salty. The star of the show was definitely the short ribs and they had a nice balance of fat to meat ratio and went great with the rice. The beef was a little bit on the chewier side and the katsu was a bit dry. The sauce that they did provide was a sort of sweet and sour sauce but just didn't pair all that well with the meat. The sweetish-tangy contrasted quite poorly but this is a just personal taste so can't dock too much for it. Overall, I think it is good and I will try to go in-person. Recommend if you're a fan of the cuisine or in the area! Big portion, fair price. Decent food.
