The restaurant does feel like a wilderness outpost. Everything is wood or faux wood. Attached to the restaurant is the Parkside Sports Bar. You can order 2 ways onsite. At the register or at 1 of 2 kiosks. There is plenty of inside seating with a small outdoors patio dining area. We ordered: Lemon/Pepper Wings (Large $18.99) - really crispy and juicy. Good size wings. Good flavor. We got ours with Ranch... note, the dressing was a bit on the watery side. Crispy onion ($6.99) - extremely crispy crust... cannot even taste the onion. If you like fried batter, this is for you. Goes well with the Ranch dressing. I got the chili onion burger ($11.99). Messy as heck...decided to go the civilized route... ate it with a knife and for...saving the top bun to mop up any leftover chili. Love the raw white onions and cheese on top. Good flavor, bean to beef ratio is pretty good. Bathrooms are located past the video games... mens room on the right and women's room to the left. Men's room had only 1 sink/ 2 urinals and 2 stalls. When you're craving a smash burger, outpost burger is the place to be! We could pretty much eat this everyday! You walk in and there's kiosks to the right to take your order and also you could order at the front. There's plenty of space to sit inside and outside and it's also connected to the bar (so it's a must to go to on game day)! I'm not too much of an onion fan but I understand it's a staple in the smash burger. The onions are nicely grilled and not too overwhelming for someone who's not into onion. I try to divert from the original but I think the original smash is the best. The party is just so nicely seasoned and the cheese is melted to perfection! We've tried the chicken strips and realized it was overly breaded for our liking. They have steak fries and if you need more seasoning, they have Cajun seasoning and chili for extras. Better than In-N-Out, post. After a day a nearby pumpkin patch our group was hungry for some burgers and stumbled upon Outpost after a quick Yelp search and wow what a find! Scanning their standard menu a couple times I landed on choosing their Special menu item their "Grudge Match Smash" (see photo for details) -- long story short, Corn Flake bartered cheese patty in a smash burger and I'm not exaggerating when I say it might be the best burger I've had in a long time. Patty was flavorful and had a nice little crunch on the edges that I personally look for in a smash burger. Whatever their burger sauce is too was on point. Side story: owner of the restaurant was on the show Grudge Match and actually won -- this burger was from the show. Staff was super friendly and even put on the show on their tv for us to watch while we ate -- great service! Now knowing that this place exists gives us an excuse to come out to Davis once in awhile -- maybe more often now. read more

We ordered takeout (via their website) at around 5pm on a Tuesday evening. The food was ready just shortly after given that it was pretty empty inside. There was plenty of indoor seating, equipped with TVs playing sports and ceiling fans. There were also a few table outside in the patio area with umbrellas. The decor down to the pillars within the restaurant were painted to resemble trees with raccoons living inside them. It was a nice detail to demonstrate the "outpost-rustic" vibes. The burgers were pretty solid. We got the double onion smash and the bacon avo smash burgers. The images made them seem like they were smaller-sized, comparable to shake shack, so we ordered the double in case. However, to our surprise, the burgers were pretty hefty, filling and yummy. Our favorite was the onion smash burger. It fulfilled the foundational standards of a good burger, PLUS grilled onions! It was quite heavy, and would recommend the single patty version if you want to try their other burgers as well. We felt that their bacon avo burger was just alright. It definitely had all of the contents, but it just didn't have the same cohesiveness between all of the elements. From my recollection, the avocados were sliced rather than mashed. I may have preferred them to be mashed and then better integrated to each bite uniformly. BUT this is kind of a personal preference. By the way, the buns were PRETTY TASTY. I believe it was a potato bun, which was fluffy and had a nice chew (hard to explain but just know I was a fan of it!) Just asking around the UC Davis locals and they had never heard of the place. Fast service, lots of space. They have beers on tap. Smash burgers were huge! Just one smash for a ~170# dude got me full. I really wanted to eat another one but I'd be dying after. I think the patties were very juicy and the burgers. I personally do like my smash patties a little more flattened and crispy. Sauce was great, might ask for it on the side or ask for lite just so I can control how much is on it. Same thing with pickles, nice and refreshing but might ask for it on the side so I'm not getting it on every bite... I personally like to eat the pickles every few bites so it helps cut the juicy and delicious savoriness of the burger. All in all, solid spot. read more

We drive Berkeley to Truckee and back, often. I have 2 small kids resulting in a lot of burger and fries stops off of I-80. While more expensive than In N Out, Outpost Burger had a greater menu range - a chicken sandwich and chicken tenders, along with the smash burgers. The kids basic burger was about $10. The smash burgers were really good. Like really good and the taste I had was the basic: just meat, cheese and bun. I can imagine with all the toppings, it'd be even better. The grilled chicken sandwich was solid, albeit a little messy as it was pieces of chicken vs a whole piece. The chicken tenders weren't super kid-friendly as they were peppery and had a breading that was more tempura based vs breading and my kids were not having it. But, they were solid and the chicken was juicy. The steak fries were good, but personally, I'm not the biggest fan of steak fries. But, kudos for the option to add chili and cheese and those type of fun toppings. The space was large and clean with an outdoor area in front. It's located next to a bar, which is a bonus for those bar patrons. Kid friendly: I spied Square Pants Spongebob on the tv. Outpost ended up being a great little pit spot or burger spot for those local to Davis. read more

The smash burger is really good. I got the regular cheeseburger combo. The fries are massive and you get a ton of them. You could definitely split an order of fries between two people. They have brunch on weekends until 2PM, I'll have to come back to try it. There are kiosks at the front you can order at, but you can also order at the counter. There is a good amount of seating inside, but they also have inside seating. They have a dedicated parking lot, and there is also street parking available. I went around lunch on a Monday, I really liked the 2010s EDM music that was playing. read more

The smash burgers here are so solid. They do smash burgers right: onions are done very well, the crisp on the patty, the soft bun, not overwhelmingly large/impossible to eat. I really can't recommend this place more for burger fans. Chili is alright, in my opinion, but it's very meaty. Fries are steak fries and done quite well. The service is always great. The staff are friendly and (when it's not super crowded), are really good about getting you your order. I remember when this location was a Taiwanese restaurant and another restaurant before Outpost came. I will say, the existing layout works really well for the restaurant. What a delicious lunch spot! Stopped here on a Friday afternoon with my family and was so glad I did. The food was delicious, I had a burger and fries, my husband a hotdog and our daughter had the chicken strips. Everything was fresh and clearly homemade. I'm a no onions girl, and I had read other reviews about how generous the patty is, so I went with a single and topped it with cheddar cheese. By now, I bet you're guessing that this was all too big for the delicious toasted bun. Correct. I ate all around the edges and used up ALL the napkins that were provided. Score = 4. Outpost is hands down my favorite place to grab a burger in Davis. So happy we have a smash burger place in town. My usual order is the classic double onion smash, but I've also started getting the breakfast smash burger, which I think is a fairly new offering. The breakfast burger comes with a perfectly runny fried egg and their signature switch back sauce and cheese, and I like adding avocado and tomato for an extra $1.50 total to make the burger a little more filling. I've also tried the chili, which is tasty but nothing particularly special. And my dog always devours their puppy patty (which they cut up into small pieces and serve in a box). 10/10 recommend! read more

These burgers were smaller and packed with flavor. If you're a fan of steak fries, you'll enjoy the ones they have at Outpost Burger. These fries are thick-cut and come in a variety of sizes. They are best when you eat in and enjoy them fresh. Like any fry, if they are left out too long they will be much worse in terms of taste. Interestingly, you can also have chili and hotdogs off the menu. I didn't get a chance to try a hot dog, but I went for the chili as I love chili. Unfortunately, the chili was too salty for my taste and I didn't enjoy it. I liked the fresh cheese and chopped onions on top, but the rest of it wasn't to my liking. As for service, Outpost Burger is a place where you place your order up front and get a text when the food is ready. There isn't a whole lot of staff around, so it's really just get your stuff and bus your stuff when you're done. I enjoyed Outpost Burger enough to want to return. Fantastic burgers - smash thin style with a bun that reminded me of Shake Shack! I'm so glad this place came to town - we tried the onion smash, the double onion smash burger, the classic fries and the lemonade. All winners! Came in for a Sunday lunch. Seemed pretty empty although I'm assuming it usually gets busier during the dinner rush. Had the games on TV. Pretty good selection of dogs, burgers, and chicken dishes. Too soft, basically like untoasted store bought buns. For $8-10, I would like to have a better bun. Chicken tenders: C The chicken is fine, kind of strange because these don't have a breading. The meat was surprisingly juicy for how thick of a piece of meat it was. The chili was really nice and hearty, nice for a colder winter day. Fries were thick cut but still had a good crispiness to them. Service: very friendly and answered all questions. I ordered a bbq bacon smash burger on doordash and it was a solid 7/10. The flavor was good but buns didn't seem toasted... kinda too soft. BBQ and caramelized onions were bomb tho. Chili cheese fries on the other hand was a 4/10. I didn't like the chili- it tasted sweet?? and just brown in color. Ok I have tried this place twice! The first time we had it delivered and I tried the bbq bacon smash, the burger was good.. it was easy to eat not too greasy and had good flavor. The bacon was good, cooked perfectly not too wiggly lol! The seasoned fries were delicious! Today we went into the restaurant and I tried the Nashville chicken sandwich- it had a little kick (and I do mean little) this sandwich was super tasty, the chicken was perfect and the spices in the sauce were very good.
