    Chili Dog

Always looking for a good hot dog spot and had a friend recommend The Hotdogger in Davis. Got the chili dog to share and it was better than expected. The dog had the snap and the chili had flavor. If you love cheese they load it up here. We got the hot dog really quick and I loved how they asked how it was after we finished. A local spot loved by the locals. It's a great casual place to grab a bite with friends and family.

After seeing their social media post and knowing I'd be in the area to make their pop up at the Farmers Market in Davis, I knew I had to stop by. The corn dog was huge. The ratio of cornmeal batter to hot dog was perfect. The hot dog itself was juicy and top quality beef, batter was crisp and golden brown. This reminded me of a state fair corn dog. And I say that as a huge compliment. Everyone knows those are the best! Can't wait to take the family in to their Davis location to try more of the menu. Corn dog was $12.

This calls for an update! We finally made a visit to their physical shop and I gotta say I'm impressed! I ordered their Polish dog with Pickles, Tomatoes and Cheese. It was the best sausage dog I've ever had, so good I wished I ordered another! They get their amazing buns local from Village Bakery! My eldest had their beef Hotdog made with natural casing and devoured it as usual!! We'll definitely be back to Downtown Davis and bringing large appetites with us! Great staff and extensive menu! :D *Song Credit: Booster by AlexGuz

Chicken apple hot dog with mustard, onion and tomato

I've lived in Davis for about 25 years. I've walked past The Hotdogger numerous times and walked in once before but wasn't in the mood for a hot dog. After conducting business downtown today, it was time for lunch. Finally trying out The Hotdogger seemed to be a way to relax after our time in the credit union. I had the chicken-apple dog and my husband the all beef hotdog. He wanted the Italian but they were out of it. I was expecting the hotdogs to be served in those disgusting soft rolls you typically get at other hotdog places. I was pleasantly surprised the the roll was a fresh French roll, I'm guessing from a local bakery. My dog had a good bite and was quite filling. After ordering I noticed they had a 5 bean vegetarian chili on the menu. When I return I plan to try that. The rain had stopped for the day so we ate outside. There really isn't much room inside to eat but there were a number of tables and chairs outside. As I said at the beginning, I've been in Davis 25 years. The Hotdogger has been here since the 1980's. Don't take as long to try it out as I did.

Small shack in the heart of Davis. Lots of traffic passing through. Service was great. Greeted me with a smile. The buns are baked fresh from a bakery down the way. The dogs were good. I got the gut bomb, it's a hot link with chili beans, jalapeños, banana peppers, cheese, tomatoes and onions. The hot link had a nice snap to it but unfortunately the dog wasn't spicy. I prefer my dogs grilled, it'll truly brings out the flavor and the spiciness of a hot link. The beans were tasty, not overly salted and didn't over power the dog at all. Next time I will definitely try something different. At the same time, a boil dog will never beat a grilled dog. But hey, that might be what you like and if so, stop by! I guarantee you'll love it here.

I've probably passed by this place a hundred times in my many visits to downtown Davis, but didn't pay much attention to The Hotdogger since I'm not the biggest hot dog fan. But when we saw they won best bite in Davis, we knew we needed to check it out! It's the tiniest little place, I'm talking like 3 barstools and barely room to order, but they do have some outdoor seating! The guy was working everything - the register, making orders, because there really is only room for one person. He was super friendly despite being holed up in such a tiny and hot little place! We ordered the best bite which was the Thai Chicken which comes with Thai salsa. You might think $13 is expensive but it's so worth it because this thing is unique! You'll never find this easily anywhere else. It tastes exactly like a bowl of tomyum soup and I have no idea how they did it! The salsa on top is so refreshing too. We had a Chicago dog as well and that was good, but just didn't compare at all to the Thai one. I will be coming back again and again just for that Thai chicken!!

The Hotdogger is a great place for a quick eat if you're busy and short of time. They have a wide selection of specialty hotdogs that are worth to try out. The store itself is small; however, they have outdoor seating.

Tried them at the Davis Market and that was a great corndog!! My bf had the hotdog and he wished it was a lil thicker but the overall flavor was amazing!! The merch is so cool too!

For there to only be one worker in this Hotdogger at a time is IMPRESSIVE! #SHOUTOUT We got 6 dogs, one for each person. Bread was a teensy tough for some of the dogs, but still edible. My diet coke hit the spot on this warm summer day. But I've had better dogs. It kept me fed and I am glad I experienced The Hotdogger with my lovely girl and friends.

Polish dog with yellow mustard, onion, tomatoes and sauerkraut

This was my second time, still awesome hotdogs! They don't have a togo good menu, so you have take your time on the menu board. The seating was all outdoors, so if you go on a windy day it maybe difficult to eat. Oh well, the dogs are worth it! I ordered the Polish dog with yellow mustard, onion, tomatoes and sauerkraut (4 Stars) with a side of Potato Mac (3.5 Stars) The Potato Mac was made with elbow mac, potato cubes, sweet pickle relish, touch mustard and mayo. This is not your traditional Hawaiian Potato Mac but good. (Traditional Hawaiian would have green onion, mayo only, shredded carrot, in my view) The Polish was a good size and fits the fresh baked hotdog bun perfectly. Love that they sized the bun to the dog. The toppings were fresh. The sauerkraut was good, nothing special, just a good quality out of the jar. They serve the sauerkraut cold, would have been 5 Stars if they served not. Until next time... Next time try chili dog, hot link or fries German mustard

Came for the first time on a drizzly week day. The place was empty save for the worker/owner(?) running the very, very tiny joint. There are two bar stools available at a very tiny wooden counter, which we occupied, but generally I would assume most buy and fly with their meals. You choose your type of hot dog from a variety of choices--beef, pork, chicken, vegetarian-- and then your toppings. There are a ton of suggestions for combos on the board to choose from as well. Lots of different toppings and mustards, too. Everything is cooked in a very small oven/warmer/air fryer thing. It all came out hot, though in batches. I loved the fries--they were wedge style and both crispy and fluffy. Hot dogs were good, but nothing exceptional. The buns, though, were freaking delicious!!! Not being a huge hot dog lover, this isn't a place I'd hit often, but for my kid, I would. I wish they would offer some Asian style dogs like Jappadog style. But they have a great variety as it stands.

We saw this booth at the Farmer's market and decided to check them out as they were featured on Food Network's Best Bite in Town and was the winner for that episode. They are known for their speciality dogs and sausages. These dogs were good, but I wouldn't say they were the tastiest I ever had. I do feel as if other Davis options could have been winners for the Best Bite in Davis but these hot dogs are still a good appetizer.

Nonstop noise and loud kept us indoors on the open table we were allowed only to order once it opened up. The burgers took ages, forcing us to finally inquire where they were. At least the brews appeared quickly, but that turned out fifty fifty. My red ale, amazing! Complex, full of bitter, warm, curiosity sweet, and depth, easily a winner. The strawberry mango fruited ale, not at all, a one dimensional angry drink without happy fruits or merry berries. Something went terribly wrong in its childhood. I imagine this place is a more rounded and enjoyable summer hotspot without campus ruckus.

If you know, it is already incredibly hard taking an autistic child to a restaurant. The manager thought it was ok to tell my 13 year old to put on my autistic son's shoes..... As my son is screaming and heaving a full meltdown over shoes now, the manager continues to apologize because there were possibly glass shards on the ground in his restaurant.
