I tried Thai Canteen and had a bit of a mixed experience overall…read more The drunken noodles were really good and super flavorful. That was definitely a highlight for me. I also tried the duck fried rice one time, but I made the mistake of ordering it way too spicy and ended up not being able to finish it. Honestly, that was on me, and I think if I adjusted the spice level, it would have been really good. I also ordered the mango sticky rice, which I was excited about because I have had it at many different places. Unfortunately, the mango was not very sweet, and when I mentioned that something felt off, the response I got made me feel a bit dismissed, like I did not understand the dish. That part of the experience was frustrating. In general, the service was not the kindest during that visit, which affected my overall impression. That being said, the food itself has good flavor, and ordering to go might be a better option if you want to avoid that kind of interaction. It has been a few months since I have been back, so I cannot say if the staff or experience has improved. Overall, it is a place with good food, but the service side of things could definitely be better.

My usual order at any Thai restaurant is pad thai or pad see ew, and they nailed it every time. The portions are huge and the prices are excellent and they definitely don't skimp. The vibe is very much a casual cantina: metal chairs, wooden tables, and an olive-green color palette throughout the interior. It feels lively and relaxed, perfect for a quick meal with friends between classes. - Pad Thai -- classic chicken pad thai topped with chopped peanuts and lime for extra zest; huge portion with a great balance of sweet and savory flavors; they also go pretty hard on the Thai spice if you ask for it - Thai Iced Tea -- cool, refreshing, and not overly sweet, with that classic amber color topped with condensed milk Service is always friendly and welcoming. The place can get pretty bustling, especially during weekend lunches, but that's part of the classic college-town cantina atmosphere. We were usually able to find a table, though you might have to wait a bit during peak hours since Thai Canteen is a must-try spot in downtown Davis!

Instead, our experience was ruined by the owner, Gordon Langstaff, and his completely inappropriate behavior around a small child. My son, who is three and on the autism spectrum, briefly picked up a loose electrical cord that was lying on the ground under the patio stairs (I have a photo of how exposed it was). Instead of calmly addressing the situation, Gordon walked over in a rude, irritated tone and said, "Can you do something?" I told him I was already handling it and redirecting my son, but as he walked away he started cursing under his breath, using foul language that was clearly audible right next to my child. There is no excuse for swearing like that in front of a three‑year‑old, especially when the unsafe cord was left out in the open by the restaurant in the first place. Whether or not my son is autistic, families should never be subjected to hostility and foul language from the owner of a restaurant. If you offer outdoor seating and leave cords and other hazards accessible, you should expect children to be curious and respond with basic courtesy, not anger. The food itself was mediocre, and after that interaction it honestly didn't matter. This was supposed to be a special birthday outing, and his attitude and language completely ruined it.

Our waitress was very friendly and offered our dogs watered and after getting our food, came and checked up on us even though it started getting pretty busy and packed. We did family style and got a few things to try! 1. Salt and pepper calamari 2. Platha and coconut chicken curry dip 3. Garlic noodles with tofu 4. Combination fried rice 5. Burmese chicken curry potatoes 6. Burmese style pad thai with shrimp 7. Garlic and chili shrimp 8. Lemongrass salmon Everything was delicious! I would say the platha and coconut chicken curry dip, Burmese chicken curry potatoes, and the Burmese style pad Thai with shrimp were my favorite out of the bunch. I would come back again if I'm in Davis!

Can't believe it took me this long to write a review for My Burma. Long overdue. The food is excellent and I keep coming back. A few dishes worth calling out specifically: the Tea Leaf Salad, Sesame Chicken, Coconut Rice, and the Pad Thai. Haven't been able to get to anything else on return trips. One note if you're a heat seeker -- the Pad Thai doesn't get very spicy, even when requested. I like extreme heat, so factor that in accordingly. Most people will find it perfectly seasoned. On my last visit I tried the black rice pudding with ice cream. Don't skip it if dessert is on your radar. Dogs are welcome on the patio, which is a great perk. One thing to be aware of: the gate can be a little tricky to navigate -- something to keep in mind if you or anyone in your group has mobility challenges. My Burma has my business. Highly recommend.

My kid mentioned they usually are very pack and people would dine outdoor, but I guess we arrived early so there wasn't any wait time. Ordered few items, food came out very fast and the tastes are not bad at all. Beef Fried Rice Noodles: How do you differentiate if this dish is good or not, it is about how much excessive oil that's left on the plate. The stir fried was good, not too greasy, and they marinate the meat well. Unlike other Chinese restaurants, this place's meat was good. Only they could stir fried with even higher eat to create more "wok air" Sticky Rice Stick with Brown Sugar: First time trying this dish, so not sure what to expect. But it does seem to be a dessert to me, my comment would be higher if the rice stick is more chewy. Hot & Sour Shredded Potato: This is common dish from northern part of China. The way they prepared was awesome. The potato was not starchy and the seasoning is just right. A bit greasy but this is actually my favorite dish! Shrimp and Pork with Chives Dumplings: Meat is fresh and dumpling wrap is great too. Each dumpling size is not too big and wasn't torn. Taste is okay but maybe try another filling if I visit again. I would come again to try out other things on the menu if I'm visiting my kid again.

It was pretty heavily battered and not too seasoned, but it wasn't bad. I think there is probably better calamari elsewhere. The dumplings were amazing though! Both came out piping hot. The fried ones had a nice crispy exterior and were super flavorful and juicy. The kimchi ones definitely had a kick, but were also juicy and delicious! We thoroughly enjoyed all of them and would recommend both to anyone in the mood for dumplings. The place itself has good seating options both inside and outside! It is conviently downtown unlike Yang Kee, but I still dont come back to here. I'm glad they've found their audience and seem to be doing well, though.

Alright Alright!…read more Let's get into the first review of 2026! And we are starting off strong with Thai Pepper in Woodland CA! I heard SO much about this little Thai gem, hidden in going into Main St downtown Woodland! Went inside, very clean and we were greeted right away! The staff working there were SO NICE AND WELCOMING! That is a BIG BONUS and already won me over because regardless if the food was tasty or not, real customer service will bring me BACK everytime! The ambience is nice and gives you that date night with a hole in the wall vibe where you know the food is GONE BE FIRE! We ordered the Tom Kha with added chicken and this was hands down the BEST Tom kha I have EVER had! Soooo goood and they weren't stingy with protein either! Chicken avocado curry was so flavorful and like the curry slurry was a little thick than runny! Seasoned so good and the generous portion of avocado. Cream cheese rangoons spoke for themselves along with chicken egg rolls! Everything came out soooooo gooood! This will NOT BE MY LAST TIME HERE! I will make the drive from South Sacramento, if I am ever craving Tom Kha or just good ol home cooked Thai food! You must eat here at least ONCE in yo lifetime! Especially when living or visiting Woodland!
