I got the second one on the middle menu With a Hawaiian sauce(not sure) and it was really good. The store is small so it's only big enough for 1 customer at a time. The guy working there was really nice, helped me pick out which one I wanted, and said he would consider putting pineapples on a hotdog to balance it more. Delicious dogs and friendly service, tucked away in a tiny shack! We tried their two top dogs: Chicago and sauerkraut. Their oven wasn't functioning properly on the day we visited, so no wedge fries. Instead, sour cream and onion ridged kettle-cooked chips for me and potato salad for my partner. With two fountain drinks, our meal clocked in at less than $20. Hotdogs came up fast, even though there was just one worker handling the cooking and cashier duties. We sat at one of five tables outside, as the inside is teeny tiny (but there are a handful of bar stools). Our dogs were delicious! Hearty but soft bun that was big and sturdy enough to hold in all the fillings without getting soggy. The dog was excellent. Beefy flavor, a good snap from the casing, and juicy interior. They have an extensive mustard selection; I went with the Maui onion mustard for my kraut dog. A tasty pairing! Standard kraut, but a good amount, lots of chopped white onion (no close talking after this meal), and high quality tomato slices (no watery underripe tomatoes here, folks). I got the regular hamburger and wow . . . the example of a Yelp review fits The Hotdogger so far. Except that I got a bacon dog instead of a regular hamburger. Cheeseburgers are my typical food when I eat at a restaurant, but I don't limit myself to cheeseburgers. Especially now that Davis murdered Redrum Burger (yes, there's a hidden joke there). I was on my way to the State Capitol on May Day 2020, and stopped at the Hotdogger to get lunch first. It really is a hole-in-the-wall; easy to see from E Street, but taking up very little room in that big orange building. FOUR places to sit indoors, and I visited during the time when our dictator thought we'd kill each other with a bug if we're within six feet of each other, so only one person at a time could be in the customer area. Translation: It's cramped. Not a romantic date place, even for UC Davis students. Okay, the bacon dog: regular sized weiner that tasted okay. Includes tomatoes and onions with the ketchup and mustard. The bacon was pretty crispy. Surprisingly, so was the bun, it was toasted. It could fill up a lot of people, but it wasn't worth the $8.50 I paid for it, $6 would be better. The owner certainly has a sense of humor. The canopy in front has a lot of doggie and weiner jokes printed on it, as do the pictures inside. His friend/coworker came out and thanked us for coming there to get a nice weiner in between two nice buns . . . yeah, "let's see how much innuendo we can get away with." I admit, I'm spoiled by Pink's Hot Dogs in Los Angeles. But that doesn't mean that I won't eat any weiner if it's not Pink's, I'm not picky. We stopped in at Ruhstaller Farms for a beer on the to Sacramento. Ruhstaller has different food trucks to provide food. Today was The Hotdogger from Davis. They had homemade Thai hot dogs and Brats. I dislike hot dogs (the irony isn't lost on me) but this place is AMAZING! My husband was drawn by their house made sausages (specifically their Thai chicken dog) and it was the most delicious and unique dog we had ever tried. Loved this little shop in downtown Davis. Came after a soccer game and appreciated the variety of offerings, quality of hot dog and the cool vibe of the little hut. Couple of tables outside for good weather dining. Ordered the classic dog, with German mustard and ketchup. Overall skinny dog with tough and natural casing, only issue was a bit too much bread. This place delightfully surprised me. My girlfriend and I had been put off from trying this place out for a while because we had once looked up the menu and prices and thought the size of the hotdogs didn't warrant the price. Finally, I had a strong urge to try this place out. We went during my lunch break. We walked in and were greeted by the single worker, Tad. He made nice casual talk while we decided on what to get. My gf Renee got the Cheese Dog with chips and a drink and I got the Chili Dog. It didn't take long for our food to be ready at all. I was definitely glad to see that it was actually a fairly large serving. I definitely felt better about the price after seeing the size. It was a great chili dog! I loved the chili, the hot dog sausage itself was really tasty, and was I was most impressed with was that there was a lot of chili but the bun used was so strong that it wasn't a sloppy mess. There was no sogginess on the bottom of the bun so it made it very viable to eat. The integrity of the bun really impressed me. The ratio of seasoning on the wedges was great and the ranch that I got for them was amazing. My girlfriend really enjoyed her meal too, and she's not even that big on hot dogs. I always loved this spot as I grew up in Davis and they have some amazing hot dogs. Their chicken apple and sausage one is great and I also always enjoy their hotlinks. This is the hot dog walk up fairly close to campus over on e street which is the only game in town for all things hot dog. It's tiny. the inside is an order counter and one table jammed in by the window. There is however some really nice outdoor seating which is just perfect when the weather holds. The patio/open court behind the building also has some outdoorsy seating off the street as well. Parking is street only and this part of town can be busy. Good luck. The menu is well, hot dogs. Usually loaded up with all kinds of toppings and fries. Not too many veg options-tofu dogs aren't all that-but the loaded fries which come in veg options are awesome. Service is pretty solid -we came in the morning and chatted with the owner who insisted we try his chicago dog on the house once we said we used to live in chicago, which was a nice touch. Overall it was reasonably pleasant, and this is the only game in town for this kind of casual eat it and beat it al fresco style food butttt......the dogs are just okay. They boil instead of grill which is fine, but to my mind boiling can change the flavor in certain ways as the water can take on some flavor from hot links, keilbasa, and oils given off by anything put into it. Also while there is nothing wrong with the chicago dog per se......this is a long way from chicago and it shows. More like a Chicago style cali dog. All this for roughly ten bucks a plate-sure the dogs are like six or eight bucks but adding a drink, fries or extra cheese will get you to ten bucks (or more depending on choices made). I really wanted to like this spot more, and your experience may be better but for me....these dogs ain't snappy. read more

I'm not the biggest fan of hot dogs but the ones here are pretty tasty. I tried the Ortega dog which had pepper jack cheese and mild Chile's with the Hawaiian mustard. Flavor was really good and the bread is fantastic with a crisp bite to it. Service is super friendly and prices aren't too bad. I think it's worth a stop here if you want a quick bite. Every time I do, I make sure to stop by and say Hi to the Owner and get one of the best dogs in the state! Ivan and his staff will dress it how you like it, and they just make you feel like home. It's really how a business should be run: fresh ingredients, a love for the game, and an environment that makes you feel like home. I know they do great catering, too, big and small because I saw him at a music festival not only dishing it, but dude was holding court, dancing and just building a good vibe. This place is a strong health code violation! The workers do not wear gloves and are touching everything all around them including money/credit cards and then go right back to touching the hot dogs with their bare non-washed hands.
