Stopped by Wayback Burgers in Davis and was pleasantly surprised! I ordered the A1 Steak Burger with a side of onion rings, and both hit the spot. The burger was juicy, cooked to order, and the A1 sauce added a nice tangy, steakhouse flavor without overpowering the beef. The onion rings were crispy on the outside, tender inside, and paired perfectly with the burger. The restaurant was clean, the service was friendly, and the food came out hot and fresh. If you're in Davis and craving a solid burger, Wayback Burgers is definitely worth checking out. I'll be back to try more of the menu. read more

*** Vegetarian Review *** Saw them on Good Day Sac (May 28) promoting $5 National Burger Day. They had all their burgers displayed, including the Impossible. We changed our lunch plans only to get turned away at the counter. When we ordered, the counter staff said he didn't think it was included in promotion. He went back to talk to the manager and said ... "The promotion doesn't include Impossible because of the price difference." We explained we saw the promotion piece on Good Day Sac and all their burgers were showcased, never mentioning Impossible was excluded. "We can't do it" So, we left. I looked at the promotional poster on the way out and the small print doesn't show any exclusions either, but didn't feel in the National Burger Mood any longer. Taco Wednesday at the nearby Dos Coyote. As much as I want to support local businesses, the lack of simple communication between ownership/employees to anticipate vegetarians might want to participate really bugs the heck out of me so we won't be coming back. I was really excited to try Wayback Burgers, but the lack of taste and flavor in the food left me disappointed. The restaurant is located at the Marketplace in Davis and has a very nice exterior. The interior is also good with nice decorations and a clean eating area. The menu looks great with a number of different burgers to try as well as stuff like tots, fries, and milkshakes. I always love a tasty burger so I went with the cajun. Cajun burgers usually bring it with a nice little kick along with the savory burger ingredients. Service was pretty quick and I got my food in a relatively fast amount of time. Unfortunately this is where my disappointment began. The taste of the food overall was missing. The texture, the look, everything else was spot on but the meat just lacked flavor. If I were to rank my items by flavor it would be the burger in last place, the fries in the middle, and my Cherry Coke at the top and tasting as it should. A few friends of mine had actually mentioned to me that they felt this restaurant missed on some of its tastes, but it was shocking to me to experience it first hand. The burgers, like many have said, have a lot going on yet not a lot of flavor. I didn't try the Cajun which others had previously described as disappointing, but instead went with the bacon burger. Bacon was perfectly good, but the burger itself was just shrug worthy. Add to that similarly mediocre and surprisingly bland fries. This is a new burger spot that opened up in the Marketplace. I saw it while doing some shopping and came back to try it out. Cajun burger: C+ Burger is well put together and the textures are good, but the beef patty is under seasoned. There also isn't a strong Cajun flavor. Fries: B- Your standard fries, they taste fine but get a little soggy for takeout. Chicken tenders: B Honestly I enjoyed the chicken the most out of everything I tried so far. i visited this establishment many times, and in most cases, I have been very pleased with the service. The cashiers are usually kind, efficient, and create a welcoming environment. However, I have repeatedly noticed concerning behavior from an employee named Monique. She is often rude and overly critical toward her coworkers, frequently nitpicking and unnecessarily directing them on how to complete tasks, even when they are already following proper procedures. While dining in, I have personally witnessed her making snarky remarks and speaking to other employees in a disrespectful and unprofessional manner. My favorite were the onion rings - crispy and delicious! My son enjoys the Oreo milkshake. Calm ambience inside the restaurant. Was craving a burger today and I found this new spot. I was looking in DoorDash and I saw this place so I decided to drive down and check it out. The pictures on the website and DoorDash made it seem like the burgers were going to be big and juicy and that was not the case. This place is a little pricey, I got the bourbon cheese burger, a hotdog, order of regular cheese curds and a regular fountain drink and it came out to just over $30. The hotdog was decent, I fixed it up to be as close to a Chicago dog as I could, I was just missing the celery salt and chili peppers. They serve the hot dog cut right down the middle which was odd to me. The burger was mid. The burger patty is kind of dry and has no flavor. They don't season the burger with anything when they cook it. At least add some salt and pepper. Overall this place is okay. read more

Place was clean & staff was very friendly. The food is not bad, it's just not very good. I got the classic burger combo, came with regular fries and a soda. The burger itself is incredibly ordinary, I mistakenly thought it would come at least with their "wayback gold sauce," but I didn't pay close attention when it showed me what came on it, so that's my fault. I'm fine with ketchup and mustard that comes on it, but it was way too much. Most bites just tasted like ketchup. Their ranch is at least decent ranch. But no amount of good dipping sauce could mask the sadness that is the fries. Soggy, bland, lame fries. If you're going to be a burger & fries place, you should have to have decent fries. I do still want to try a milkshake from here, but I'd never choose to get the food from here again. Their food is ok, nothing special. I do like their special milkshakes but sometimes they're over blended. I especially like all their sauce choices, so far I have liked every one of them especially their ranch and the Cajun remoulade. What I don't understand is why their rewards program never works correctly. I tried to get the free basic shake on my first order and it didn't work. Then today when I ordered online it said I qualified for a free basic burger with my order and I clicked ok and then when I picked up my order theres no extra burger which is annoying cuz I would have ordered another burger but dont open the bag til I got home. Then when I reviewed the receipt theres no indication of a burger reward so whatever... just annoys me when places have weird stuff going on like that. I hope someday they fix their reward system. Other than that, the food is ok for the price, nothing very special. The burger patties aren't too filling so I would recommend getting doubles. The cheesesteak sandwich isn't much like a real cheesesteak that I'm used to but it isn't bad. The chicken I wouldn't really recommend but it's not bad if there's someone in your party that hates burgers. The salad is weird and I wouldn't recommend it and the onion rings aren't great. We've been wanting to try Wayback Burgers ever since they opened, considering we live very close. We walked over with my toddler in a stroller and our small dog tucked into the base of the stroller. We ordered one kids burger meal, one Cajun burger, one build-your-own burger, small cheese curds, small tots & signed up for the free milkshake with the purchase of the burger. We got the Cinnamon Toast Crunch milkshake, it literally just tasted like a vanilla milkshake. But atleast it was free. Now to the burgers, very disappointed. Lacked flavor. Tots were good. Cheese curds were okay. For a small order, it only came with 8 tiny pieces. Not to mention the to-go packaging needs to be fixed. A bottom tray then a top tray for the lid that isn't connected made the food fall out & make a mess in the bag. We were the only people in the entire restaurant. One person walked in maybe 10mins after we ordered & our dog barked & the older male cook told us no dogs were allowed so my husband took our dog from the stroller base outside. Our food took 30 mins, which I thought was ridiculous since there was no one else waiting for food before us. Then I asked for an extra patty on the side for my dog. The older male cook put the extra patty in the burger. So I had to wait for another one. Then we went outside to eat at the tables down by Peet's. As I started eating my burger, it was missing the bacon. I walked back over to let them know & they gave it to me on the side. All the staff were sweet and attentive except for the older male cook that rudely told us no dogs were allowed. He could've approached us with that rule alittle more respectful & without hostility. Nonetheless, we followed the rules. Which to mention, we weren't even aware of. Anyways, the fact that the order took 30 mins & was wrong was so frustrating. If it was busy, I'd be more understanding. There's no excuse for the order taking that long & then not being able to read a simple ticket to put out a correct order when we were the only people waiting for food. If you don't want to read my review and want to try this place, I recommend signing up for the rewards. They have a coupon through October 28 for a free classic burger with a $10 purchase. I think it's worth taking advantage of especially when trying a new place. Short version: I'd be willing to try this place again even though it's on the pricey side. A meal should be $12-$15 not $20. It's very similar to the cost of a lunch in downtown Sacramento which is now $20-25 at most places. The app has the rodeo meal for $10.99 which includes fries and a fountain drink. If you ordered each of these separately the total before tax would be $15.47. Not sure how many fries they give you for this meal as compared to the regular side, but I feel like this is a good deal because you could change it to be a regular burger with typical toppings and no bbq or onion rings. That is if they allow you to say "no onion rings" in the special instructions because their message says no alterations or substitutions in special instructions. Longer version: I love burgers and was very excited to see a new place opening up in Davis. It's nice to have other options besides B&B and In & Out (both of these places are sooooo overrated and not worth the hype ). I have lived in Davis for a really long time (20+ years) and I'm probably considered a picky burger eater Lol . When Habit burger was here, it probably was my top place to go to. When Redrum was open they were a good hole in the wall burger place. I also really liked Krush burger when it used to be in Davis. I've tried Outpost and love their decor and style inside the restaurant and if you order to go it feels like you're taking a packed lunch for a hike through a national park. I wish they had more side options and shakes like Wayback has. I really like that about Wayback. Burger places should have other sides besides fries and should offer shakes which Wayback does. I could also go into my opinions about Burger Lounge and Shake Shack (the former is really good), but this review is about Wayback When you walk up to this restaurant you almost miss the door if you aren't paying attention. I feel like they should be able to replace those pet pictures to the right of their door with burger images/ advertisements. This spot used to be a cat clinic and those images match that business type. I think it would add to the ambiance. It's too bad there is no outside seating and the indoor seating is limited. It's probably possible to go sit in front of Peets if you want some outdoor seats. I ordered online through the app and got the classic burger for free because of that promo. It was supposed to be ready in 17 mins but I got there after 10 or so mins and it was already ready. I assumed my to-go order had napkins in it, but it had none. Note to self, always grab napkins LOL First couple bites of the burger were meh but after awhile it grew on me. I think the patties might need more seasoning. I don't usually eat 2 patties so I think I'd stick with the single in the future. I like to eat ketchup, mayo and mustard on my burgers which I think is typically the default for burger places, but Wayback drenched mine in all those three sauces. Usually you put light mustard because a little goes a long way but mine had a lot of mustard. By the time I got home my burger was soggy from the sauces. Which is fine because I live across town and don't expect a burger to hold up after 20 mins. Just pointing out they were heavy handed on the sauces to where I think it contributed to sogginess. The fried pickles remind me of what the southern chicken sandwich at McD tastes like LOL (it's fried chicken with pickles). The fried pickles were worth trying but I'm not sure I'd order them again. I like that this place has several side options-fries, tator tots, fried curds, fried pickles, onion rings, chili cheese fries, cheese fries, etc. The regular sized sides aren't work $5.69 though (see picture) . I think the serving size is fine but the price should be lower like $3-4. It wasn't a $5 side IMO. I really liked the cheese curds. Reminds me of mozzarella sticks. Overall I'd try this place again. I think they should have a meal that is $12-15. $20 to eat here isn't going to bring customers here regularly. But the rewards program may help. Anyways give it a try and be kind when giving less than 4 star reviews. It's a new restaurant and they're working out the kinks! Calling people dumb or dumba$$ is uncalled for. Customer service jobs are really hard and most people who work at restaurants are students. I'd never heard of a Wayback Burger, so I was pleasantly surprised to find this location conveniently located off Highway 113 in Davis. The food was terrific - I had the Bourbon Burger and onion rings with a killer "Red Velvet Cake" shake that had a piece of red velvet cake in it. Yum! Worth checking this place out. First time here. We were actually at another place to get some boba tea and saw this burger joint and thought " let's check it out". So glad we did! We ordered a couple of Classics, the Cheeeesy burger, cheese curds and an Oreo shake. What sold us to give this place a try was when we were speaking to the cashier/server. The best burgers I've had in Davis (so far) nice size, juicy and great taste. The curds were also delectable! If you've read my other reviews you'll know that my last experience with cheese curds was horrendous! These more than made up for that debacle! We also had tots with our food. I can only give whole star review but would've given this place a 4.5 - the only knock was the portion sizes of the sides. For the $ I would have expected more. Like they actually counted out the total # of tots we were given - wow! Maybe count 5-10 more pieces for the $4+ we paid for them. Same goes for the curds! For the over $6 I paid (inc the tax) I feel like I should have gotten at least 50% more. I got about a dozen smallish pieces. I only say this because the burgers were an excellent price/portion proposition! For the price of another bigger chain's burgers (rhymes with cake crack...) you get way more of a really tasty burger!
