We chose this spot after our walk at the UCD Arboretum. I am a sucker for chicken and waffles so I was excited to try them out. We ordered at the counter and sat outside. I ordered the standard chicken and waffles and my girlfriend ordered the grilled chicken sandwich (on a brioche bun) with tater tots. We were super comfortable sitting outside and didn't even take note of how long it took to get our food. I LOVE the little syrup bottles. They are so cute!! The breading on the tenders was nice and crispy and the waffles were so crisp! The big dollop of butter was perfect! My girlfriend said the chicken sandwich was great. The brioche must have been nice and soft bedside she definitely had to pick it out of her teeth. Hahahah! The tater tots were deliciously crispy and crunchy! Love it here! After dashing this place several times I finally came in store and was happy to see a bright, fun, clean space with good prices, great hospitality, and tasty food. My go to are the chicken tenders and fries combo because it's actually fairly economical with how much food you get. The tenders are huge, crispy, flavorful, and juicy. And their dipping sauces are exquisite - the bruxie sauce is like a chic fil a sauce their ranch is house made and so delicious. I've also gotten their MASSIVE chicken sandwich and absolutely loved it, and their breakfast burritos are enormous and filling without drowning in grease! Also, the milkshakes are divine! I got to meet the owner one time and he made feel so welcome! Very charismatic, funny guy. I went to Bruxie for dinner with a friend and we both had a great experience. I ordered the chicken and waffles, and she got the chicken sandwich. The food came out in under 10 minutes, hot and fresh. The chicken was well seasoned, crispy, and honestly so good I almost burned my tongue trying to eat it right away. Bruxie is a chain, so I've been to other locations before. This particular location is conveniently located with lots of other restaurants. There is a large parking, but it can get quite busy, so you'll have to drive around to find a spot. There's both indoor and outdoor seating available, which is perfect on a nice sunny day. The service here is pretty good. The cashier was helpful and suggested strawberry lemonade which was not displayed but located in the back. The strawberry lemonade is superb! There's real strawberries in there!! You can tell because at the bottom, there are strawberry seeds. The fountain drink and strawberry lemonade is refillable. You can't go wrong with any of the waffles here. Food is made to order, so it comes out perfectly hot and crispy. The chicken is also immaculately battered because it's not too thick, yet not too thin. It's crispy and the chicken is juicy. Indoor seating is located separately from the cashier area, which i don't mind because it does give you more privacy and less foot traffic. I also like that there are two separate areas for outdoor seating. One outdoor seating is at the very front of the restaurant a the other is under a tree, shaded, on the side, which keeps it cool. It was 10:00 am and my tummy was craving for breakfast food after bootcamp. For some reason, I expected the waffle to be thicker, hearty with more texture?. The waffle reminded me of an eggo waffles. Don't get me wrong, I like eggo waffles. It just didn't do it for me. It wasn't bad, but it didn't blow me away. I'm looking at the menu closely again. You could taste the different spices for the first 4-5 bites and then your mouth just feels like it's on fire and you can no longer taste flavors or anything else lol! I visited Bruxie during the UC Davis Picnic. The complex of restaurants on the edge of campus and downtown Davis were all busy, but as we entered Bruxie, we were greeted by all the staff, including the cooks. Everyone was so friendly and hospitable. Their menu includes every possibility of chicken items, including chicken and waffles. There are also burgers, burritos, salads and shakes. I ordered the Original, which is a huge chicken breast with homemade slaw and Chili Honey Sauce, which is the best. My wife had three Jumbo Tenders with Waffle Fries. I have never seen chicken tenders this big. Thank goodness I was there to help her finish them. It came with a choice of sauces, but we stayed with the Chili Honey Sauce, which is so good. I wish they sold that in big bottles. Maybe they did and I just didn't see it. Bruxie had a special on three menu items, which got you food and a drink for $12.00. Wow, that was a lot of food for $12.00. We were stuffed but after such a great meal, we decided to take some more food items home to try out later. We ordered the Breakfast Burrito, a grilled tortilla with fried chicken, eggs, cheese, tots and sauce. We also added avocado. It was so good and bigger than any burrito from Chipotle. If you are hungry, anytime of day, that burrito will do it for you. We also ordered the Habanero Honey Hot Sandwich. It had homemade slaw, pickle, and a honey mustard sauce. I reheated it up in my oven perfectly. Bruxie has free parking right behind the restaurant, so it's easy for to-go orders. They also have patio seating and seating out in front by the lawn. Came to Bruxie on a rainy Thursday evening. It wasn't busy and I got my food in a timely manner. The staff are friendly and the playlist was fire with the oldies rnb hits. I tried the loaded tots and the kickin Nashville waffle sandwich. The tots were fried to perfection and perfectly crispy. I think it was a bit overloaded with the cheese sauce and i would have preferred if more sour cream and chives were added. So...they seem to have changed management...they are GREAT people. The Manager and the store owner are SUPER nice. But they changed important parts of what makes Bruxie great... 1) they use a difference syrup. They dont give you the one in the glass bottle no more. That i dont mind, but it IS DIFFERENT. Its not as sweet as the original, meaning it doesnt even pair correctly with the waffle. 2) they use a different butter. Their original butter was very soft in texture, spreadable. But the butter they give you now? its just your standard butter with also a different taste. Yet altering the original taste of the Bruxie experience. Managment. I returned for a weeknight dine-in, this time going for the [original seasoned] three-piece jumbo tenders with waffle fries, and sharing a loaded tots. I tried the stone-ground honey mustard and housemade ranch dips, but my favorite was the Bruxie sauce (hint of maple?). Note the stone ground mustard is more of a kick than the "creamy" honey mustard. I was too "chicken" to try the Honey Hot or Kickin' Nashville spice levels, but the original was just right for me. The tots were loaded indeed, with cheese sauce, bacon, sour cream, and chives. Unfortunately, the frozen custard machine was again being finicky and we struck out again for milkshakes/cups. First timer! I came on a weekday evening and there was no line. My partner and I were thrilled with their menu options (as huge chicken sando fans), and we ordered the kickin' Nashville hot bun sandwich and original fried chicken and waffle sandwich. Bruxie uses a walk-up counter service model, and we seated ourselves in the dining room. We were captivated by the flashing signage, but admittedly, it felt distracting after a while. When our food came out, we were excited to dig in. My bun sandwich was falling apart in my hands, and I recommend that Bruxie wrap their sandwiches to mitigate this problem. My partner also struggled to eat the chicken and waffle sandwich and described the waffle as dissolving under the weight of the chicken. I kept seeing pictures of this place on my IG, so my friend and I got curious and planned a day in Davis just to try it out. And oh man this is my favorite place for anything chicken and waffles. Holy Chicken - The chicken was so crispy and super chunky too. I knew I was full, but I couldn't stop eating because it was so good. The egg yolk was a beautiful runny yolk. It was a great combination of sweet and savory as it had a bit of syrup on it as well. The waffle part was fluffy and really enhances the texture. Given how much I thoroughly enjoyed my visits to their now-shuttered spots in Irvine and Vegas, I assumed we'd be in for more of the same when we decided to come here for lunch. Sadly, it only made the whole experience all the more disappointing... Between their fairly central location in downtown Davis and the complex's huge parking lot, everything about coming here was surprisingly easy. This outpost is a bit smaller than either of the Bruxies that I've been to before, but snagging a table here was a breeze even on a Saturday for lunch (though, I wonder if that would still be the case when UC Davis is in session). As far as the menu goes, a few things looked new (like their spiced tots and coffee drinks), and things seem to have been taken off (I remember seeing a BBQ fried chicken waffle sandwich before), but all of the main offerings are still present and accounted for - chicken and waffles, classic and breakfast fried chicken waffle sandwiches, and dessert waffles. -- CHICKEN & WAFFLES - Two Jumbo Chicken Tenders, Bruxie Waffle, Butter, and Pure Vermont Maple with Extra Jumbo Chicken Tender (+$3)...$14.50 More solid than spectacular, but not bad. The batter didn't have the "crunch" I had hoped for, but it was well seasoned and the chicken was moist. The consistency wasn't super thick and its all too familiar creamy orange flavor was even more enjoyable given the hot weather. The caramel wasn't overpowering, the coffee didn't have any bitterness to it, and the overall taste wasn't as sweet as I feared (though, it is still sweet). -- HOLY CHICKEN - Maple Glazed Chicken, Applewood Smoked Bacon, Cheddar, Sriracha Mayo, Sunny Side Up Egg...$14 While the both the waffle and chicken itself were mostly fine, the rest of this was decidedly not. The chicken was more drenched than glazed with syrup, leaving a gloppy, sickeningly sweet mess. What's more, rather than whole strips, this had chopped up bits of bacon and fat. Blech. -- SPICED TOTS...$4.50 Quite simply, these were fantastic. Fried to a deliciously golden brown, crispy, not at all oily, and seasoned enough to add a lot of flavor yet not enough to overpower everything. As underwhelming as the food was, especially when compared to my past experiences, the service here was actually fantastic. I've seen some folks mention that the food can take a while to come out, but I didn't think it was that bad, especially since everything is made to order (kind of important with the waffles). Regardless, I loved how friendly and helpful the staff was, whether it was grabbing extra utensils for us or with recommending dishes to the newcomers ahead of us in line. Even if the food had been better, they'd still be the best thing about this Bruxie (or any of the other Bruxies, to be honest). All in all, Bruxie isn't a bad option for a quick brunch type of offering or if you're in the mood for some chicken tenders and tots. Really, you could do a whole lot worse. That said, despite how awesome the service was, there's no getting around the fact that what I had here mostly pales in comparison to what I've had in the past.
