So, uhh...what happened to you, Bruxie? Given how much I thoroughly enjoyed my visits to their now-shuttered spots in Irvine and Vegas, I assumed we'd be in for more of the same when we decided to come here for lunch. While I typically would've preferred to find something new or different to try instead, checking out Bruxie's only NorCal location seemed like a good alternative considering how we were pressed for time! Sadly, it only made the whole experience all the more disappointing... Between their fairly central location in downtown Davis and the complex's huge parking lot, everything about coming here was surprisingly easy. This outpost is a bit smaller than either of the Bruxies that I've been to before, but snagging a table here was a breeze even on a Saturday for lunch (though, I wonder if that would still be the case when UC Davis is in session). As far as the menu goes, a few things looked new (like their spiced tots and coffee drinks), and things seem to have been taken off (I remember seeing a BBQ fried chicken waffle sandwich before), but all of the main offerings are still present and accounted for - chicken and waffles, classic and breakfast fried chicken waffle sandwiches, and dessert waffles. -- CHICKEN & WAFFLES - Two Jumbo Chicken Tenders, Bruxie Waffle, Butter, and Pure Vermont Maple with Extra Jumbo Chicken Tender (+$3)...$14.50 More solid than spectacular, but not bad. The batter didn't have the "crunch" I had hoped for, but it was well seasoned and the chicken was moist. As for the waffle, it was crispy on the outside, but it did feel a fairly thick as it cooled off. -- ORANGE DREAMSICLE SHAKE...$7.50 Not too shabby. The consistency wasn't super thick and its all too familiar creamy orange flavor was even more enjoyable given the hot weather. It did get to be a bit too sweet for me by the end, but I can't say I didn't expect that to happen either. -- CARAMEL COLD BREW - 24 Hour Cold Brew with Bruxie Housemade Cold Foam...$5.50 This is more of a casual coffee drink than a caffeine fix, but this was actually pretty decent. The caramel wasn't overpowering, the coffee didn't have any bitterness to it, and the overall taste wasn't as sweet as I feared (though, it is still sweet). -- HOLY CHICKEN - Maple Glazed Chicken, Applewood Smoked Bacon, Cheddar, Sriracha Mayo, Sunny Side Up Egg...$14 While the both the waffle and chicken itself were mostly fine, the rest of this was decidedly not. The chicken was more drenched than glazed with syrup, leaving a gloppy, sickeningly sweet mess. What's more, rather than whole strips, this had chopped up bits of bacon and fat. Blech. -- SPICED TOTS...$4.50 Quite simply, these were fantastic. Fried to a deliciously golden brown, crispy, not at all oily, and seasoned enough to add a lot of flavor yet not enough to overpower everything. As underwhelming as the food was, especially when compared to my past experiences, the service here was actually fantastic. I've seen some folks mention that the food can take a while to come out, but I didn't think it was that bad, especially since everything is made to order (kind of important with the waffles). Regardless, I loved how friendly and helpful the staff was, whether it was grabbing extra utensils for us or with recommending dishes to the newcomers ahead of us in line. Even if the food had been better, they'd still be the best thing about this Bruxie (or any of the other Bruxies, to be honest). All in all, Bruxie isn't a bad option for a quick brunch type of offering or if you're in the mood for some chicken tenders and tots. Really, you could do a whole lot worse. That said, despite how awesome the service was, there's no getting around the fact that what I had here mostly pales in comparison to what I've had in the past. Hopefully this was just a one-off or that I have better luck if/when I should come back again, because I truly am stoked to see a Bruxie open up (mildly) close to the Bay Area. read more

Absolutely the best chicken and waffle place in Davis and greater Sacramento area! Waffles are crispy on the outside and just right on the inside, and tbe chicken has a very nice fried exterior, juicy and flavorful on the inside. Sonia took our order - she was very nice and informative. She even came out while we were eating to make sure everything was good. We chatted a bit about the sauces. Went to try it 2 different times. Left with bad impression both times. As a new transfer to Davis I wanted to find a local fried chicken spot and this placed looked great from the pictures. Showed up, ordered, and was waiting excitedly. Staff comes by and tells us they're out of chicken and the fries and inform us it'll be an hour wait time. All good more than happy to sit. They come back and tell us another hour. We later that day without food but hoping it was a one time thing and excited to go back. Second time we came and ordered got our food and it just didn't look the same as the photos. Tater tots looked store bought, they still had no fries, and the waffle was thin and flavorless. I ordered some Bruxie on DoorDash on Thursday night at around 8:30 pm. My order was delivered at 9:15 pm and was fresh and hot and waffles were still crispy. Only miss was the fact that we ordered two side orders of waffle fries (an additional $4.39 per side) and there were no waffle fries with our order - and that the restaurant closed at 9 pm so no one was there to fix this order that evening. Everything was delicious - we hadn't tried Bruxie before and weren't sure what to order, but we got the fried chicken and waffles with waffle fries, strawberries and whipped cream waffle, the crispy chicken sandwich with waffle fries and the original (fried chicken, coleslaw, hot honey). Mine was the original and it was fantastic - best fried chicken and waffle I've had at a restaurant for sure. Heard so much about this place and couldn't wait to try! I'm glad I went early to beat the lunch crowd, and ordering was simple and straightforward. Of course I had to get their signature The Original, and for good measure, I threw in another chicken & waffle along with a honey hot chicken sandwich. Overall, the meal was delicious and filling. You can definitely taste the spiciness in the sandwich so make sure you have a drink nearby to cool down. The chicken tenders were a bit dry and chewy, but pairs fairly nicely with the waffles. Stopped off in my old stomping grounds on the way back from Tahoe to visit Bruxie. I was surprised to find that there is a Bruxie here because the only one that I went to previously is in Orange County, like 350 miles away! This is the place to go for chicken and waffles as they know how to cook them just right. I got the hot chicken and waffle and the spiciness level was just right for me. I usually don't use syrup but it's Canadian maple so I had to try it! I must say that I didn't feel great after the meal, but that's more or less because my diet has been really clean lately so having so much carbs and fried food was probably a bit shocking to my system. Finally a Bruxie in our area! They picked a great location in downtown Davis but for some reason this particular spot is always ever changing, so I hope that they'll survive! Parking can be difficult here but we came at 4pm in the afternoon so there was plenty (plus charging stations!). The thing that stood out here is the service! They were very welcoming and explained everything to us as soon as we walked in. We sat outside on the patio but they brought our food out, and even checked on us afterward! The loaded fries were nice and crispy. Kinda wish they came with chicken instead of bacon but otherwise they were good. Our kids liked the grilled cheese waffle sandwich too, which is on the regular menu, not the kids menu. Loved that they had sweet tea on the menu which was super refreshing in the heat. So, this is a mixed review. The food is a 5. The chicken is great--I've had the tenders and the chicken and waffles. Each were wonderful. The shakes are also amazing, though they have started downsizing the size of the shakes (but for the same price). For takeout--wonderful. The downside--the ambiance is a 1. Put simply, the eating area smells like an uncleaned toilet. Sat outside last time we went because the smell inside was too strong. My girlfriend and I wretched when we had to walk back inside to leave. (My gf's daughter didn't have the same reaction, I must admit.) I don't get it. For being new, this restaurant did better than some I've seen in the first few weeks. I was excited when I heard a bruxie was opening near Sacramento since I've only had it in LA (those are the closest location). Customer service here was great. Everyone was really nice and helpful. I came at a time when it wasn't so crowded, but there was still a steady stream of customers. I ordered a 2 jumbo tenders and fries to go and waited about 15 minutes. But when I got to my car, one of the ranches spilled in the box. I also got creamy honey mustard and ranch, but received 2 ranches. Went back in and let them know what happened. Waited another 5 minutes and checked my order again when I got in my car, but only saw 1 ranch and no honey mustard. I was a bit tired and didn't want to go back in a third time so just drove home. The place is laid out a bit weird where it's like a Craftsman building layout. In the front half of the restaurant is the order counter, a bench for sitting when you're waiting for an order, and we can view employees preparing your food. The back half of the restaurant has in house seating. There's also an outside patio with plenty of seating. The food was good. Just like I had in socal. I would just check your order in store before leaving. I'll be back soon and hopefully they'll have a good rhythm going and be able to get the order correctly. I tried out Bruxie in LA long ago, glad to say the quality here matches what I remember enjoying. The chicken tenders are incredibly juicy and seasoned well, while the waffle is crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Very satisfying to eat. Also the waffle fries have a nice firm bite to it and are also packing a lot of flavor. Only cons are service was a bit slow but that's because they just opened recently. Prices are on the higher side for the smallish portions but the quality makes it justified. read more

My order took about 12 minutes, comes with 2 pieces of chicken and a waffle.The chicken tender is quite juicy compared to another chicken place down the street (Cane's) and seasoned with different types of herbs. The employee also checked on what we thought about the food, so awesome service. My friends thought that Bruxie tastes better than a soul food restaurant in Sacramento as well. The waffle is quite light and with crunch. The small bottle of syrup is definitely enough for this meal. As for the custard, it's definitely tastes more eggy,a bit of salt mixed with sugar. Bruxie serves pretty good food and has a lot of seating with friendly staff. I went with my friend and when our food came, a large portion of our order was missing. The staff was super friendly and tried to be helpful, but it did take repeating the same missing items multiple times in a row to get them. We had ordered two flavored cold brews with foam and repeated the order several times, but we received two iced plain coffees. This didn't ruin the meal but it definitely wasn't what we ordered or what we would've enjoyed. At long last Davis has a sparkling clean, welcoming place to buy the best fried chicken breast this fried chicken aficionado has feasted on. We ordered 10 - pieces of tender, juicy fried chicken breast (much bigger than the usual strips) with three different sauces to dip them in. Everything from ordering and paying online, to collection at the restaurant was seamless. There was plenty of parking; the restaurant was gleaming; the employees and management were warm and welcoming; our order was ready right on time, and the beautifully boxed, traditional chicken breast was definitely 5-Star. Decided to come in today as I've been wanting to come here for a long time, but the drive is a little long. Waited almost 10 mins standing at the register before I was even acknowledged. Finally got the opportunity to order. Tried to order the Nutella and strawberry waffle that is on their menu currently just to be told that they discontinued them and they just haven't gotten new menus yet. Having experienced Bruxie at their locations when I lived in Southern California, I was delighted to hear that they were expanding north. For dinner, my husband, and I made the trek to Davis and met up with my dad and some of his friends. The location inhabits a former vegetarian burger spot so Bruxie could not be farther from that aesthetic. Not really craving waffles or a sandwich, I decided to just order three of their Nashville hot chicken tenders with fries. Nashville chicken has been the rage for quite some time so I was not surprised to see Bruxie's interpretation of it. The tenders were massive and had the perfect level of heat. I ended up nibbling a little bit of some mac & cheese. That was also quite tasty. All in all, I think is a great addition to the UC Davis college campus area. read more

The food took more than 45 minutes from the time we ordered to the time it landed at our table. They put the waffles and chicken in to go containers despite the order being dine-in. The food wasn't in the box long before we received it but the steam still takes away from the crispness. All told, the food was pretty good. Not nearly as good as I have had at Bruxie Las Vegas and Bruxie Santa Monica, but still decent. The strange thing is the restaurant was NOT busy at all. There was no reason why the food should have taken this long. The party next to us waited over an hour for their food before they gave up and requested a refund. This is supposed to be quick serve! Weirdly, the bathroom door cannot lock from the inside. They provide a keycode and you are expected to knock before entering. What if you don't knock loud enough? What if the person inside doesn't hear you knock over the fan? Awkward! This is just piss poor design. I hope this location does better. read more
